  • Foreman and Wilms undertake a mighty expedition on the Wilderness Waterway in a canoe. Ahead of them is 99 miles of tangled swamps full of alligators, nasty bugs, and little dry land. Adverse weather conditions add to the challenge to make for an epic adventure in the Florida Everglades.

      +Foreman and Wilms Adventures Old mate is celebrating his 15th birthday this week, but still loves to try and chase the Cockies away from his biscuit bowl......when he can be bothered to get out of bed and go outside. Any hints as to where "we" are off to next, have just spent two hours overlanding through Sydney traffic, and could really do with another "trip away" courtesy of you guys. But for now, tonight's big decision, a Margeret River Chardonay, or a Hunter Valley Verdelho to go with our Thai takeaway. But then again, after the day I've had a cask of goon will probably do the trick.

    • @ForemanAndWilmsAdventures
      @ForemanAndWilmsAdventures  8 років тому

      +Mark Harvey some of that goon is really good though not in the 4 litre boxes. A little harder to gauge the quantity consumed unlike the bottle. It's usually a stumble to the floor that alerts one to overconsumption . The Pilbara is our next destination. I'm currently building an old fuel bowser to stick outside a 3D model of a roadhouse that might get about 3 sec in the film. The film is in the advanced stages and could be ready in a week. Enjoy the wine and give the hound a scratch.

    So some friends of mine recommended your video. The Buckleys. Very impressed. They rescued me one time four years ago. I stay on a smaller houseboat a little farther from the Gulf than the Swamp Lily anchorage. So sad to see them leave after 40 years or so. Good news is that they are at my house this winter paddling the Lagoon and a few local lakes. I can't believe how many people you encountered. I go two weeks without seeing another boat most times. I'm going to watch it again!

    Hi guys been a while since the last vid great to see u guys back. what an interesting little adventure this was i must say. I once kayaked with my little jack Russell down a river here in Victoria for 25 km and sections of the river ended up been ankle deep boy it was hard work dragging that kayak through the river bed, so i certainly can imagine how exhausted u guys would have been after this little expedition down the everglades. As always enjoyable learning about different cultures and the different types of landscapes that are beyond our shores here in Aussie, ime sure Gavin yourself and wilms will take us on some great adventures in wilms home country. " I must say i will miss the defender when you guys go of shore lol" as always thanks again for the wonderful vids, take care and safe travels.

      +craig thulborn greetings Craig. It has been a while, these films take a long time to produce. One day when I'm rich I'll employ a team. As for the canoe trip Wilms did most of the work. I sat back and failed to catch fish. Do you still have your jack Russell. I'm a big fan of the fox terrier which are peas in a pod to the jacks. Same same but different. I'd like to have a dog but they're hard to have if one is a wanderer.

    • @craigtsadventures7414
      @craigtsadventures7414 8 років тому

      +Foreman and Wilms Adventures Thanks again for replying Gavin. I cant stress enough on how u guys do such a wonderful job on gathering all your footage and then finding the time to be able to produce and upload all your vids in the time frames you guys have to work with. Well done and as always full appreciation from down this way guys. I still have my little jack Russell and he is 8 years old and he still provides me with a lot of laughs when i take him for walks in the bush. I understand it would be hard for u guys to have a little dog as u guys adventure a lot, including National parks . My Granddad used to have three little foxes or fox terriers when i was a youngster and i can remember them becoming fiesty little buggers if i got to close to my grand dad, those little fangs used to stare at me as i walked closer and cloaser to him "LoL", very loyal to my grand dad though i must say. I checked out your Face book page the other day and well done to that too guys, i managed to wack a few comment among your clips. if u get a chance click on my profile and u will see my little dog in one of my clips on my wall where my wife and i are sanding my old floor. None of the clip was edited so its a bit rough in parts whilst talking. Thanks again guys and well done, bye for now

    G'day Gavin and Summer.
    Lovely to see you guys back again and ever so working on your wonderful video presentations.
    You're nearly getting close to the David Attenborough standard, but your films are still a quite pleasure to watch. :P
    So they have salvation Jane over there too, especially at 10:06 where Summer is doing some of her part of the talking.
    It would be good to find a TD5 defender over there as well, of which you could, but it would be quite rare, as the local inhabitants of the USA usually prefer to have the big Dodge Rams and the F350's as big as they can get.
    They wouldn't be able to survive otherwise.
    Still love the Aussie perspective on things Gav, as it sure does explain everything to anybody in very clear and simple terms very effectively that anyone can understand.
    By the way, ear plugs are certainly greatly desired for sleeping when camping in unfortunate homo sapien environments, especially with the noise that they seem to generate from there unnatural tools and drastically exhibited biological sounds.
    Still love the wonderful attention to detail of the flora and fauna, and the explanation that goes with each shot.
    Just another thing, you sure seem to be losing a fair bit of weight Gav, hopefully you are keeping alright.
    Looks like Summer needs to feed you up a bit more.
    Well, once again, a very enjoyable presentation done by you both, and still would like to keep seeing more.
    Concerning Christ's return Gav, it is good that you acknowledged that, as you may not have much time left, especially when big old Russia makes her move upon the Middle East, attracting fear and concern from the West with regards to business and trade.
    But that can discussed another time.
    Travel safe.
    Cheers all the way from Townsville, QLD.
    Matt

      +Matthew Hawkins greetings there matt and thanks for the comments. They do indeed have Patersons curse/ Salvation Jane here but the plant you would have seen I think looks like it might be in the pea family. I have not yet id'd it as yet. Summer and myself actually discussed potential problems with that shot due to those flowers and sharp eyes viewers like yourself. We actually shot that post production back in California so we were worried someone might notice but we used a shallow depth of field to blur out as much as we could. My weight does fluctuate a bit these days depending on how many m&m's ive been eating. A wonderful addiction. Your right about the defenders, we have a disco 2 over here that broke down on our first test adventure so we know it's the real deal. We're working on episode 4 now and it's getting close to done. Thanks for encouragement. Cheers and take care for now.

    The camping site he refers to as Watson's has a lot of people already camped there, which has a good point, and some bad points. First a crowd might make it less likely to have an alligator or python coming in, and since a lot of people have been there is probably smells like it to animals which would cause them to not view it as a hunting area. However, that many people camped there would also be crowded, and like he said, beer cans everywhere noting the rest of the campers may all be there to party. It would be nice if you could book it, and try to do so with others that you know, and that are like you are. We would not be going to drink and party, and would want Christians there, which were not in our little space.

    Awesome video and commentary! New subscriber added. You guys had a great knowledge about the Everglades. Last year, my friend and I did a 5-day and about the 60-mile loop on the Wilderness Waterway. We took the inland route from Flamingo to Graveyard Creek and back to Flamingo paddling along the Cape Sable. The trip was full of difficulties and challenges, but overall, it was an amazing and unforgettable experience for me. However, my friend said that he would never go back. There was a day when we were stuck against the very strong tide and gusty winds. We couldn't make to our Chickee before dark. We were left with no choice but to paddle in the complete dark (no moon) with just charts and compass. Luckily, we made to our campsite.
    I still have the dream to paddle the entire course, but there is no one to go with me. I might do it SOLO!!!

    I think you were too accommodating for the Willy Willy group. Fires there are illegal, and your "group" had as much right to be there as the other one. They were already taking up more than half the site, despite it being approved for only 2 groups, with a max of 10 people total. Watson's Place is allowed 3 groups, but still only 10 people. Maybe this has been more strictly enforced since you were there.

    • @ForemanAndWilmsAdventures
      @ForemanAndWilmsAdventures  7 років тому +3

      Greetings there. I am compelled to answer your question about the audio with honesty. 'We didn't', there was too much wind on many occasions so a lot of the original audio was rubbish. Two of our cameras had external mics and we did have a rode shotgun mic and a portable sound recorder to capture as much Everglades nature ambience as we could when the wind was down. On the windy days we used our own recorded sounds of paddles, breaking twigs , splashing water ect and spliced all of them together to create the final result. So we had quite a mix of real stuff and fake.

      Greetings Jeff. The Ivy House in Everglades City handles both gear rental and shuttles. There may be others but these guys did a good job. They seemed a little pricey but not outrageously so meaning we do recommend them. With the shuttle you could choose which end to start from. You book your campsites in advance at the ranger station so it’s a good idea to have a plan before you go. A good tent is highly advised as the no seeums are aggressive. It’s an amazing trip. Wilms had downloaded an app called 'Gaya' though I think that might have evolved into something else now. It allowed her to download maps before heading out and worked like a gps however smartphone batteries don't last as long as a dedicated handheld gps. A conventional paper map in a waterproof bag with a compass should be along for the ride.

    Hello, where did you get your maps for the garmin from? Are there good open source maps?

      Greetings Philo. I downloaded the Garmin maps from their website, the 24k south east map. Obviously it includes Florida but several other of the states surrounding it. They are expensive but very handy for a place like Everglades. I found a free map but it was not very good. It’s very easy to get lost out there so I’d recommend a good gps map. Wilms also used an app called Gaia which I believe might be a subscription based app. It was very good but I like the reliability and ruggedness of a gps in the wilds over an iPhone. So in summary I found no free maps that I’d trust and the expensive Garmin map was well worthwhile. Hope this helps.

      Hello, thank you very much for your information. I'm also using a garmin etrex (30x), which seems to be a very good choice! I think I'll also go for the garmin 24k south east map. Besides, there is still "open sea map" which also works on the etrex, but is not so detailed. Did you ever have problems with sharks, alligators/crocs, or snakes on your trip? Did you have a satellite phone in stock in case of bad accidents? Last question: I'd like to do an everglades trip in March 2019 and would like to talk to someone who is everglades experienced. Any guesses? Kind regards
