Wildlife photography along the Gulf Coast of Florida is an excersise in superlatives. This is a landscape of deep beauty and mystery. Ancient live oaks drip with Spanish moss amidst sable and cabbage palms. There are places here that still hold the same look and feel and species that conquistadors saw when they first step foot on this sandy loam.
Then there are the birds. My god, the birds.
I spent two weeks in Florida at the begining of April. One of which was to lead my annual bird photography workshop here. The other was to explore and photograph and film. This video is the culmination of the latter. Florida sandhill cranes, Osceola turkey, barred owls, whitetail deer, alligators, and so much more.
I live on the doorstep of Yellowstone National Park. I travel to far flung places range from Alaska to the Amazon. And still, the Gulf Coast of Florida is one of my absolute favorite places in the world to photograph in the spring. - Навчання та стиль
Impressive video and photographs I believe was at Wekiva State Park in Sarasota.
Enjoyed this immensely. I’d love to know exact locations or near about a (as we say in the south) I love along the gulf coast side of central Florida. D love the chance to shoot these amazing creatures!
Awesome video!! What luck with the interaction between the 2 owls. I always love how you try to educate people about the species and the area you are shooting.
Sandhill Cranes both the resident population and the Migratory birds hold special spots in my memory of life in Fla. when I was young. Hearing them in late summer meant cooler (sub 80) days were coming and then in spring meant the heat of summer was on the way. Amazing how far their call carries and how high they fly.
They are extraordinary creatures. So prehistoric sounding!
Awesome video... 😍😍
I’m back from 2 months in polar regions. The trip was EPIC and I’m now happily enjoying the sunshine of my home state, Florida.
This morning I found your email in my inbox. I always read your blog & watch your videos plus I am a loyal subscriber to Photographers Journal. Thanks for all the great info you provide. Kudos also for the high quality of writing, photography and videography.
Now to the point of my email : I LOVE your portrayal of my home state and the glorious wildlife that graces us. Bravo for your work with the Sandhills and the burrowing owls and more. I,too, am fortunate to travel the world and agree that Florida, not just the west Gulf coast, is a gem of Nature.
Great footage
Sand Hill Cranes are all over Northern Ontario
This was a great video. Thank you for showing us the Florida Sandhill Crane! Since I live in here, if you ever teach a class in SW Florida, I'd love to attend!
The best place to shoot sandhill cranes in Florida is the golf courses. (giggle)
Beautiful video and photos! New to following you. What a wealth of knowledge you are as well. Bird photography is my thing and I'm transported to where you are by your beautiful photos.
January or February winter birding in Florida is my all time favorite. Early spring is nice as well. Great content.
I really enjoyed this video! I especially like how you positioned your camera so low to the ground to get that intimate view of the cranes!
Great video and beautiful images, thanks so much for sharing.
Beautifully captured.
Excellent approach and great footage! Couldn't agree with you more, Jared! That is why I love living here!! Hope you got some keepers in Pinellas. Peace, my brother...

You keep getting better and better Jared. The handheld video gives the viewer a better sense of being along for the adventure.
I loved all 12 minutes of this Jared. The conversational style of instruction really works for me. Can't wait for the next issue. :)

Great video! Would love to add that you can find hundreds and hundreds of sand hills in Wisconsin. Keep up that great work man!
Great video man! 👍
Great video and photos! Would you mind sharing the exact location? I live in SW Florida and have seen Sandhill Cranes in Venice, near the Audubon Sanctuary, but not in any setting as depicted in the video.
Myakka
Beautiful and well done.. This is from someone that lived in Florida for over 25 years.. If you do not mind can you tell me what was your video camera and software? How did you stabilize the video?

Thanks all
The loud music completely takes me out of the video.
Exactly. Background is so loud I had to cut it down, and even off, particularly at the end. Really annoying.
