Great movie!! In the last year I took a job that involves working with autistic adults of varying degrees on the spectrum. Some are non verbal. One has a computer device like the one depicted in this movie. They are incredible people. Capable of much more than folks give them credit for.
I watched this movie again for the first time in over 15 years. I went through something similar when I was nine years old and had to testify before a grand jury(horrific abuse by a relative )I wasn’t autistic, but I was delayed to where I wasn’t believed. It wasn’t until a doctor found out I was telling the truth getting a check up,and she reported it. I really felt for this child. It’s sad how these monsters take advantage of the child not being able to communicate. I had a very compassionate judge whom I spoke directly to, and I never forgot that! I’m in my 40s now. my heart goes out to all who has suffered through such ugly things!😢
❤❤
I can really relate to you. I am not delayed but needed support with my learning. At school I was put in with the delayed because I was dyslexic. They didn't pick up on my autism and ADHD until I was an adult.
My mum living at home always made me feel delayed, yet at the same time did not support me and I was excluded from being treated equally among my siblings. It was a horrific nightmare living at home always being gaslit by a narcissistic parent in turn siblings also treated me that way. I tried to confide in my mum always getting given the cold shoulder. When I told her once I thought I may be autistic she said 'stop giving yourself things' 😢. And after seeing my psychiatrist who diagnosed me with ADHD she kept trying to normalise me by saying she thought the psychiatrist was wrong... 😢. Yet she abused what I was trying to confide in her with, with my ADHD and autism, telling her I struggle to find my words sometimes... And she did the unthinkable she committed a heinous crime against me 😢... So I relate to this story in so many sad ways. And this now man who plays an autistic boy is a truly gifted actor. ❤

Great job by finding a path after such abuse! God Bless You!!!
Excellent film. I know a couple with an autistic son. They educated themselves in order to provide him the tools to live a productive life. He will graduate from college in May 2024.
Awesome. May he see a strong winner in himself. I graduated from high school May 2000 and I couldn't successfully graduate college but I educate myself through special schools until I'm ready...
My brother died due to abuse and neglect from a facility for handicapped children and adults Feb 28, 1999 he was 28. He had the mentality of a 4 year old. He was non verbal. He had only been there 18 days when he died. He was there for respite care. He was coming home in 30 days. He would be 52 if he was alive today. I miss him more than anything in this world.
Terrifying.
I don't trust those horrible places.

He did. After watching this movie. I cant stop thinking about Del Bigtrees documenyary Vaxxed…… How many kids are strugeling like this because of vaccines. Parents must demenad answers. Over 73 vaccknes before 18. it s insane.
Being late diagnosed with asd and seeing movies with examples of the levels of asd is a little comforting even though not everyone w asd acts like Michael. Basically thid is a good movie
Yes
I think there should be cameras installed in places where children are being cared for like that
What does asd stand for
Good movie. I’m so happy to know there’s people out there who truly care for these babies. God bless you all
I'm so glad Michael got the justice he deserves and finally had a voice to communicate with people he trusted.
yet facilitated communication has zero evidence of being legit and has resulted in multiple false accusations. If a facilitator is in another room when questions are asked... and comes back. Not even the most simple question can be answered correctly. . . The average cost of training someone in facilitated communication is 30k usd per student. . . and the continued research into this pseudoscience is millions of dollars that could be better spent on evidence-based interventions that might actually improve independent communication skills
it's a good movie if I cry once. When I started to see the Michael character's progress, I couldn't stop! So two thumbs and two big toes up for this winner! Patty Duke Astin and Melissa Gilbert are like bread and butter when acting together, each complementing the other. Just great.

This was based on a true story and it is sad and good at the same time.. It is very sad what children goes through with Normal person sometimes they don't believe and it is more hurtful when a special need's person isn't believed or anything else.. God bless all children of this world we live in and their families and friend's.. Happy New Year to one and all in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord King and Savior..
Where is God when innocent little children are abused??
As soon as “jeff” sees “Michael” come in the courtroom, he knows he’s “done for.”
I was not sure if it happened. I am a Christian woman, raised by Christian parents. Beautifully done movie. I was molested by my brother at age ,9. I was molested by a female classmate; at a Girl Scout outing. Piano lessons. I was molested in our church basement by a brother and sister. Forgot their names. I never told anyone about it until I read the book " The Courage To Heal'. Also " Secret Survivors". I had no words to describe what happened to me in the 1960's. Very long story: my dad was diagnosed with PTSD and on meds. In my day, and being Black; were raised to keep certain subjects in the family. Especially mental illness. Sexual issues would bring shame to our family. Especially with my paternal grandfather, important minister in my mom's city. Raised in the south. Told go to the ministry for help. My dad went to a psychiatric clinic for his meds. Told never to tell outside the family. It took flashback to remember incest. Trusted no man really sexually. I wound up writing in a diary at 13. Any sexual situations I was in. Sex was always a shameful subject in our household. At 66 I look back glad I wrote to express myself since I was a child. It took writing, books. Seeking professional help after a breakdowns. I wasn't safe with my own brother. So it took faith in God to keep living without support for many years. God s Word and leaving sexual abuse can destroy the real image of God. I thank God for bring my Heavenly Father and Jesus as Lord and Savior. Thankful I met many women in church who won't discuss childhood sexual abuse in our church. We talked by phone. Not sure if they told our pastor. Sex is a subject matter that my church struggles to face. Only by faith do so learn trusting in the Lord is the best one to trust Must learn who to trust, teach children about sexual abuse early. Prevention is important. Leaving it can happen in any setting, trusting sick people. Those who take advantage of the vulnerable. God bless the good teachers and people in my life who have helped me heal for years. Still healing with Gods grace and mercy. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

very well acted out. The roles of people striving for the best for an autistic child. America is growing up. In my grandmother's day, the disabled were sent to institutions. As an Early Intervention Specialist working with the Special needs community here in Nigeria for 10 years now, this hits home...
I find the characters very relatable from the Parents individually, to the therapist and finally , to Michael.
Sadly, I've had a couple of parents plead that I live with their children while they relocate to other countries. Because they are 'unable to cope' with the children. Two of them where single moms and the kids involved were children on the spectrum.
I've found this work emotionally tasking, myself. Touched on so many topics, its just unbelievable! This film brings back stark memories of these past 10 years.

why they so easily trust young men seeking to work with children who have problems?they should be checked and tested a lot and been supervised ,this sort of abuse is too often
Two of my favourite actresses. The little boy was excellent too.
In America drug users go in prison longer than child abusers . Sometimes justice system sucks . This is one of the reasons child abusing never stop
Because I’m the US a child’s value is less as they cannot contribute to society. I believe anyone who can hurt a child should get life. No second chances do hurt another child again.

Despite this being a movie, there's so much that goes undiagnosed every day because people limit research and dismiss certain facts which are common for misdiagnoses as well. I know from my experience that I was definitely misdiagnosed in my childhood.
A must watch movie that moved one to tears of the trauma an autistic ,child or for that matter any child could go through due to being mishandled or abused The shame and guilt of being unable to speak the truth of their trauma and pain effects them psychologically and mars their life forever
In this case Michael had an inner intelligence to communicate which is not understood by many .and so are many like him .The victim's extraordinary talent was unique that helped in winning the case .
A lesson for parents and teaching faculty to be aware in educating

Great story line there should be more shows dealing with options for kids with special needs
I worked in group homes with special needs clients. A severely autistic kid had a device that he learned to flip through screens to find pictures for the words he wanted. No spelling from a child who never displayed any literacy skills before they type words, no hand/arm holding involved.
It’s an interesting movie but kind of silly. Profoundly ID kids don’t get whole days with one highly trained expert and they don’t get their own apartments with one staff member living with one child.
I looked after a little girl at a special school and she had drowned and had been in the water for more than 5 minute and she never spoke. I spent heaps of time with her and finally she made her 1st sound more of a scream and I was so happy for her. But they whisked her away and I left and I have always wondered what happened with Annie.
I don't know that i could leave my child at a facility with strangers. This has to be one of the most difficult things a parent has to endure. My heart goes out to all of the parents of children with any kind of disability. I couldn't imagine.
I’d love to know how many years this horrible man was sentenced to in prison and how many elderly people who most likely abused, those who had dementia or were too ill to speak. Although he abused a child, rape is also an act of violence and some pedophiles just prey in whom they don’t think will speak out.😢
I too wonder how much time he was sentenced for.
I hope he got life in prison
They deserve the death penalty!
@@jamesprior2496 I bet Jeff got his ass beat while he in prison for molesting Michael
@@hopesanchez3501was this a true story. ?
Movies like this make me so mad. Like these people have no common sense. The man that hurt him is in the same room. Michael was calm until he was asked if Jeff was in the room. That's when he became overwhelmed. Yet they act like he's a barbarian animal. All I can is Lord have mercy on those that harm these innocent children, those that doubt and cast them aside. And Jesus please protect those innocent babies.
I think they realized that. I think it definitely contributed to the guilty verdict. However I completely understand what u mean! It pissed me off! How are victims who are unable to communicate supposed to be protected? How are they supposed to get the justice they deserve? It is infuriating. The place should have had 24/7 surveillance! I mean who thought it was a good idea to leave nonverbal children with strangers in a home alone?? With no supervision?? There should be video surveillance and another person living in the home as well. At least with 2 employees and the surveillance there is a greater chance that they are safe. Make it more like a hospital setting or a nursing home setting, where there is a whole team of staff living with the child.
Thanks for this movie. It was great and one of Patty Dukes I actually have not seen.
Awesome !!!! The computer is a necessary invention !!!! Thank you that we all can communicate via computer !!!!
its been proven many times through the years that FC is pseudo science, aka snake oil, it is never the client typing, its the facilitator, and yet people still promote it, there is even a movie on the netflix online called tell me you love me, or such with a similar case, that the teacher and updated testing, still proves that its the facilitator, of course the guy in the movie is manipulated by his mother as well, because she just projects whats he likes on to him and does not give him other choices, like in music and such, but, the main focus is the fact that he was not the one who was typing, it was the facilitator.
I LOVED THIS MOVIE! It's a tear-jerker, but ends with satisfaction and peace.
I am a big fan of Melissa Gilbert. I am grow up watching Little House on The Prairie. So happy to see her and Patty Duke in this movie
No no no! Never leave your children no matter how hard it may be. There is such a big reward within the struggles of taking care of your precious children.
In some cases as this movie it was for the child's best interest. Keeping our children sheltered isn't good they cannot grow that way.
It’s situational!!!!
I have never seen this movie before but I have seen Patty Duke & Melissa Gilbert perform together in the true story of Helen Keller called The Miracle worker where Gilbert plays the deaf & blind child Helen while Duke played Ann Sullivan her teacher. Duke & Gilbert make a great team in movies. I love them together. Thanks for putting this movie out there 👍
What an awesome movie The script The acting especially The little boy that played Michael what a horrible thing to happen to any child but to happen to a special needs child 😢😢😢😢 it's reprehensible that someone could do this to a child
I only know from personal experience in my own childhood what was happening to Michael and what Jeff did to him because of the signs and the behavior that he was exhibiting when he was with Jeff who was touching on him and Michael didn’t want to be touched by him and than immediately leaving his sight when the social worker left.
As an adult survivor I am in recovery and work as a Mental Health Peer Specialist and some of my clients are sometimes children who share similar lived experiences and stories of what happened to me in my own childhood and I am striving to continue to be an advocate and help people and children the best way that I can ❤
Super wonderful movie. 👍👍👍
Thank you for uploading.
I can understand the mothers behaviour in being reluctant for her son to learn to do things for himself as it means she isn’t as needed as before, her whole purpose in her day was him and now she has to let go a lot ,she’s feeling no longer needed,I think this would be the case with a lot of parents of autistic children but they have to learn independence
❤ I thank God for this story and for the progress that has been made 🙏🎆
He gave me harmony!
When I was a little girl of age, something bad was done to me, that caused so much damage, as that little girl's heart broke into sadness, by some adult's madness!
The abuse gave me many years of agony, until I surrendered my life to the Lord, and found myself in harmony.
Finally I understood that He always had loved me, and He had felt the pain I felt ; that made my heart melt.
He helped me to forgive the abusers, as His love for me changed my heart for real, and He little by little the wounds would heal.
Today, my heart aches for those who have gone through the same, and thought it was some adult's game.
I pray for them with deep compassion and sorrow, as I hope for them a better tomorrow ; and that they will turn to the Lord with all their agony, as He is the only One who can give them harmony!

Heartfelt poetry. One day earth will be like how God intended for it to be in the beginning... No sin present. Let us work dilige
thanks for the upload this was a great movie dispite the heartbreaking themes
I had never even heard of Patty Duke not so long ago..and now I am a huge fan...she's very very very good at what she does 🐣
She's deceased...
@@carolyncain9604 Yes, but she's very much alive in her movies. Kind of keeps her here forever.
Many great movies to catch up on !
It's not the organisations but some few staff members in the organisations that try to collapse the organisations.
Great movie, Patty Duke and Melissa Gilbert are great actresses and that little boy was just perfect!
May all the special people be safely cared for. 🙏
Very cool that Patty Duke and Melissa Gilbert made another movie together
Melissa Gilbert had the most beautiful hair!
I know I'll get hate for this but I don't think I have or had it in me to deal with a child that had those problems. It's sad. God bless the caretakers of autistic people.🙏
