- This video shows the detailed steps to replace the PCV Valve on the Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Tundra, Toyota Sequoia, or Lexus LX570 equipped with the 5.7L V8. The repair is quick, takes 10-20 minutes, and is easy to do even for the DIY person with basic hand tools.
If you have problems such as smoke at startup, oil loss between oil changes, worsening gas mileage and poor MPG, burning oil, or caked up oil under the oil cap... this may be worth doing. It is a very cheap fix and solves a lot of problems that people don't realize is caused by a bad PCV valve.

Quick question on the video you are using the one ending in 38030 but in your description you have the 38010 as the correct one for the LX570. Which one is correct?
@@andresd9146 good eye!! I had the wrong one, but I went ahead and made the video and installed it. The. Replaced it again with the correct one 2 days after. They are both physically the same on the outside, I think the only difference is internal and at what pressure they open/close
Thank you for sharing! Just ordered those PCV, hose and clamps at the local Toyota dealership. Those parts were not available on any local dealership.
Nice! Let us know how it goes 👍
@@NKPGarage will do!
Bought a used 5.7 Tundra 1.5 years ago with 135k miles. The PCV valve was The FIRST thing I did.
Nice job! I wish more people replaced them on their vehicles. It ends up being the cause of other leaks that could be avoided easily with just a PCV replacement every 50k miles.
Love that you're back in an LX570! Keep these vids coming, you do an amazing job!
Thanks!! Glad to be back in one as well. There's just not much else that feels the same.
Perfect time to see you back in an LX, got a 13 last year, all your videos are always helpful! Thanks!
Congrats on the new ride!! I do love these 200series. There’s just nothing else quite like them.
Thank you for this video.
I leave my engine cover off. It seems to me having an engine cover would cause more heat to build up in the engine bay.
Not sure, maybe that's right? Personally I always leave them on, never had a problem with heat accumulation with them on, and they help to keep the noise down.
Thank you! Please make more LX570 repair videos or maintenance videos.👍👍👍
Thanks for the support! I definitely will! Here's the playlist for all my LX570 videos that are already on the channel from the last few years. Plenty more to come! ua-cam.com/play/PLIv6TR3MmSgaNv3QUvdlXfGiUMLWzDFBW.html
I agree get some of those fasteners they are modestly priced you will not regret having them on hand. I always end up putting my grubby fingerprints on the silver intake cover, it is almost impossible to avoid. This Pcv change is such a great tip for this engine, love how you are baselining this bad boy. I am jealous of that nicely shaded flat driveway.
Even shaded it is so hot this summer. If you notice around the 2:13 marker in the video I had to sit down for a bit. It's just so darn hot! Gotta get it baselined, never know what the previous owners have done or not done 🙂
Thanks so much for including links to the PCV valves!
You got it!!
Great video. Guess I should be replacing mine here pretty soon! At 167k miles and am pretty sure it hasn’t been replaced before 😂. 2010 LX
Thanks! When you get to doing yours, shake it around and blow in both ends. See if it is totally seized up or still lets air through. I'm really curious to see what you find. I had one that was around 155k miles on a 2011 LX570 a few years ago, it was totally seized, and the hole was completely clogged with black residue. When we replaced it the MPG went from 11mpg average to 14mpg average, and there was no more oil loss at all between oil changes (it was losing 1 to 1.5 quarts between oil changes). Crazy how much of a difference a little valve makes.
@@NKPGarage I’ll let you know for sure. Thanks
@@NKPGarageok just replaced mine with over 167k 2010 LX570. Same as yours, ball was still free, rattling but sounded like there was dirt inside, grinding. Easy job. Thanks for the video 👍
@@andresd9146 nice work! 👍 keeping up with these little maintenance items helps keep these awesome vehicles on the road and reliable for many more years to come
Thanks for the usefull tip🙏.
I clicked on the first amazon link you posted of the pcv valve for a Lexus Lx570 2011 to purchase, but I got a amazon notification that it does not fit the 2011 LX. Could this be an amazon mistake? Or can you recommend another link?
Thanks again for all your content. Really enjoy the clear step by step informative video's. 👍🙏
It is likely an Amazon mistake. Make sure the part number is the correct one and you should be good
thank you sir for sharing this amazing video , i have a small question for you, is this the right valve were i pull out a new hose for install a catch can to it and return it back to the intake , and is there any valves more that i should connect it to the catch can , and do u recommend to install the universal one from amazon because am worried that the catch can will increase the blow-by pressure in my motor , by the way my engine is 1UR-FE V8 4.6 land cruiser, thank you sir 🤍🤍
Yup, that is the hose you'd splice for a catch can generally. Personally I don't like catch cans unless you are on a highly modified setup with forced induction like a supercharger or turbocharger. I personally would just replace the PCV valve and call it good. But if you want to install a catch can you could do it. Make sure you use a catch can that has internal baffling. And do not use a "breather filter" on the catch can. Here's one that might work: amzn.to/3UFUFPU
Thank You Sir. Good Video
You got it! Thanks for watching.
Curious, why did you go with the green flex fuel version? I thought that's what the green indicates? Thanks!
They're actually both green. I grabbed the incorrect one, did the video. Then when the correct one arrived I swapped it out. To my surprise they were both green and looked exactly the same. My assumption is that the internal spring rate is probably the only difference.
Just hit 145k on my 14 tundra I had some smoke this morning. I’m not sure the pcv has ever been changed. I hope it’s the issue 😅
Definitely worth a shot to replace the PCV valve first before messing with anything else. May also be worthwhile to run some really good fuel system cleaner through incase the injectors are not opening/closing all the way. I've used a lot of them over the years, my favorite by far is Star Brite Enzyme fuel system cleaner. Works wonders: amzn.to/45O7cWD
whats the sunshade that you're using? got a link to it? your videos are always helpful!
Absolutely. They’re the custom sun shades from Covercraft. We have one on every single car we own. Best sun shades by far. Keeps the inside protected from UV and much cooler than without. Here’s the one for the 200 series LC and LX. amzn.to/4apTASn
Could you clarify how this impacts mileage? Thx
If the PCV valve is not working correctly the crank case pressures can increase. Once crank case pressures increase it could force oils past your piston rings and into the combustion chambers. That leads to the engine trying to burn oil and fuel, instead of just fuel. And also leads to carbon buildup in the combustion chamber. All those things together lead to poor gas mileage.
My current MPG is 12 to 13 combined city/highway and I never changed the PCV valve before ... There is no Puffs of white smoke. How to determine that PCV needs replacement.
MPG is always going to be dependent on each person and how you drive, so it is hard to compare from one owner to another owner. How many miles are on yours?
@@NKPGarage It is 165000 Miles, 2015 First owner
@@LongShadowsGuy at that mileage you definitely need to replace the PCV valve. I bet it is either stuck completely or not opening/closing all the way. For $10 and 20 minutes of your time it’s an easy maintenance item
Awesome video. Love your videos, keep it up. But engine cover goes to the trash. LOL (Just kidding, but got them stored in my garage)
Thanks!! I hate taking those covers off each time I have to do something, but I think they have some sort of sound reduction function so I leave them on. If you've ever been under the hood of an LS460 there are even more covers, almost ridiculous, but they have some sort of function.
@@NKPGarage that's what I heard too but they are still quiet without the covers plus I love the roaring of the fan. Got the covers of the LX570 and GX470 😂 plus it makes it easier to wash and check all the fluids. I offroad my GX but LX is the pavement /camper pulling queen
@@driojalthat fan does make a roar. Haha. Only one I’ve heard louder is on my previous H1.
@@NKPGarage the Land Cruiser from the 85 we had growing up. I could hear it from couple blocks away. Hahaah
Nice video…thanks 😊🇺🇸
“That’s what she said” hahahaha
Hahaha... gotta throw the lame jokes in there every now and then to keep things fun 🙂
Um, Amazon says that this does NOT fit my 2014 LX570! 12204-38010
Is the part number incorrect?
Yup. It’s definitely the correct part number for the LX570 and LC200.
@NKPGarage Thanks so responding so quickly! Used your link to order, hopefully that helps you out.
@RacinJasonM3 you got it! Good luck on the replacement. It’s pretty easy to swap out. Just take your time
Nice video
Thank you!
I double dog dare u to do a video on replacing a transmission valve body… for a friend of course… pesky solenoid codes are driving me bonkers
You now I will if it ever starts acting up. 😁 What codes are you getting? And how many miles are on the truck?
