I think they have to be unpacked from the game assets. I know it has been done, but I haven’t done it myself. Might be worth asking in the official Discord
I've watched this few times now, I finally did I try my hand at making a mission. This is more helpful after having tried it myself, again thank you for sharing.
Now I started with the VTOL editor and find that easier, and much simpler than DCS. I would love to do a good milsim DCS mission but I struggle for time to learn the mission editor. Getting there slowly
@@TheFerretsWheels yeah, it took me a while to learn both editors, but at first I just started making simple dogfight missions with the F-14B, where as now I’m making multiplayer strike missions lol As for VTOL, at first when I saw it I was pretty confused, but with the vid I kinda got the hang of it thanks :)
Your unit isn’t touching the ground and the unit is possibly also set to flight AP. Either change the unit to cold or flight ready and reposition on the ground. Or if you want the unit in the air set it to flight AP and give it an initial air speed of 150+
How do I control the wingman's behavior, do I need to set it in the "AI Fighter" properties menu, or do I need to activate them during events so they do what I tell them to do, fly in formation, or do what I tell them to do?
i was trying recently to get into campaign creation for vtol but its very problematic and really could use an upgrade, even in just UI because it's quite bad when you try to create anything beyond few objects
Hi, Thanks for this video! As a 'Noob' at this it was extremely helpful! I have one question though. Once you have completed making the map, and creating your Single Scenario mission, how do you load it in to the game to play, other than launching it from the Mission editor. Do you HAVE to upload it to the Steam Workshop or is there a folder that you need to put the files in? I see my files in the Customer Missions and Custom Maps folder in the installation directory, but in VTOL VR, when I load the Pilot, Select the F-45, Custom Missions, all I get is the F-45 Test mission. (It's likely I've missed a step!!) Thanks for your help in advance! :-)
I want to create a mission where friendly AI moves to enemy airports and attacks automatically using GBU, AGM188, Cruise Missile, etc. Is there a way to do this? When I make it, AI drops only one GBU, fights with a gun, and only evades it
There’s no way I know of without being specific in their actions. You can set priority and designated targets and conditional actions and sequence events to control which units get attacked but how the AI attack those targets is decided by the AI unless you specify actions like bomb a waypoint or fire anti ship missile
@@TheFerretsWheels does that mean AI uses GBU autonomously? When Ai use it, Ai is try to use GBU, but Ai don't use it and avoid it Can you test it later?
You can test the AI by creating the action you want to test in a single player mission. Set the player unit to force equipment in the mission then when you start from the mission editor it will skip the helmet room. You can enter dev cam with INS on the keyboard. Cycle through units with [ and ] and end the mission with DEL. The mouse controls the camera. Right click is for moving the camera if I remember correctly, and mouse wheel will zoom.
Hi. I have some problem. When I create a path for units and set the path to all of them. They begin to move non-vertically, but horizontally. Idk what to do
I think it’s an action in the units. I haven’t been in the editor for a while but it’s something like unit, select a unit from the list, send waypoint to GPS
@@TheFerretsWheels Yeah no I've done that its in "System" - "Send Waypoint to GPS", however I cannot get it to send to my GPS no matter what I do. Could it be because I created only 1 objective? The objective is Destroy all Targets
Objective type shouldn’t prevent it. Sending a point to GPS will not automatically give you a navigation waypoint. If you want to send me a copy of your mission on my Discord I can take a look for you
You can as of the latest patch. I think it’s called loop event or restart event. There is also an option in the vehicle page for respawn. Set the units for respawn, then create a triggered event to spawn them. For instance you can have 4 ai aircraft with a trigger that says when all 4 are dead, respawn the units. That would be an endless loop. Then maybe have a trigger on an objective that disables the event to stop them respawning
@@TheFerretsWheelsyou should do a video on looping mechanics. I have been playing with them to create a 247 ready sandbox mission. I love the mission editor its so easy to understand and you can really create dynamic missions that never have an ending now.
I can't test the mission in VR, it just stays in Desktop mode. I tried with steam vr but it didn't help. I use a quest 2, what type of headset do you have?
Hi there! I was hoping you can help me, I wanted to make a carrier landing practice but when you start it, it doesn’t show if you are high or on the flight path because I haven’t asked atc to land. When I do it it doesn’t show the flight path lights either and when I land and was supposed to finish the mission, it just kept going. So I don’t know how to make it so when I land the mission ends and shows mission completed. Thank you
It seems to be some sort of bug. Managed to work around it by using a timed event, forcing the units to use their paths on mission start. @@TheFerretsWheels
It depends on what they are set to for default behaviour. Parked won’t move, take off will take off as soon as they spawn, path and orbit will also take off to either follow the path or orbit the point. You can delay their actions with events
Unfortunately you cannot group units to move them around. If you create a unit and do all the settings (unit group, movement, target enemies, spawn immediately etc) then copy it, it will copy all the settings along with it. They you command them to do this as the group name you assigned. Like group alpha move to waypoint A.
@@TheFerretsWheels when i try to start it says i need to place a player mad (but i did) + is there any way you could. start the mission without being in the plane? just.. spectating?
It needs a player spawn as part of the game file, even if you want to spectate. Try deleting the player spawn and save as a new name. Then open the new one and add a player spawn back in. To view the maps in spectator mode (developer cam) you start the mission and when you are in the aircraft press the INS key. You can scroll through units with < and > and move the camera with the mouse and right mouse button. Press INS again to go back to normal view. You can quit the mission any time by pressing the DEL key. If it’s a single player mission, you can also skip the helmet room by pressing R. If you set the loadout to be forced so you skip the loadout screen then skipping the helmet room means you don’t have to keep putting your headset on to get to developer mode
When you add objectives you need a start immediately objective and a final objective. For step by step objectives you add the objective as prerequisite and select the objectives the player must complete before the new objective shows up
@@TheFerretsWheels I'm still confused. I tried having the mission complete after landing on a carrier, but nothing happens after landing. I used the same procedures you just replied with. Also, am I correct in that when you assign a Waypoint to a carrier, it then follows the carrier when the carrier is moving?
The last objective should be set to Land and Final. Then on the right, set the carrier unit as the waypoint for landing and set the area to 100m. Waypoints you set in the waypoint menu as set points. The objectives menu will let you assign units as waypoints which will follow the unit
@@TheFerretsWheelsI have Land, Final, Waypoint selected (Attached to carrier) Auto-set Waypoint - Checked, Required - Checked, and Radius set to 350. When I land after nothing happens, I get no mission complete.
Not with allied airbases, the refuelling/rearming points are built into the asset. You could set an airbase as an enemy airbase which might work, but you also wouldn’t get comms
Single player missions have the aircraft selection in the mission details panel, where you set budgets etc. multiplayer missions let you select the unit type in the unit tool window

When I set the AI fighter to "set player commands", I was always told at the beginning of the game: You don't have a wingman
The AI have to be in your group to control them with voice commands. If the player is alpha then they can control any other AI in Alpha
