i think many fall asleep with PG by Nick.... so we forget/can't press that like button... guys do it or these guys stop posting
I listen to these over and over again as I’m going off to sleep. I practically know all the Jeeves and Wooster stories off by heart now!
Subscribe!👍
I love these readings......
The effects of Covid 19 and the actions we are taking to rid us of this virus, are having an almighty impact on the human world. It is nothing but very serious, however any Wodehouse enthusiast and hopefully those that are as yet unaware they are, will surely be smiling at some of his best lines and his capturing of scenes with such colour and humour which PGW gave us in this story written in 1925.
It is of course for everyone to enjoy but in so far as it is possible to dedicate a UA-cam post, I would like to do just that. To all those people who are still hard at work getting on with doing all the stuff that for so long we have taken for granted and provide us with everything we have come to see as essential for living and comfort. Yes, everyone involved in healthcare, hospitals and the like but also those that ensure our electricity, water, oil and gas quietly keep on coming. For farmers and growers harvesting and preparing for the next crop. For all those in factories, offices, in supply chains, transport and retail that are carrying on, to make it possible for the rest of us to carry on. Thank you all.
Thank you for honoring the selfless individuals who keep the manufacturing industries provide our everyday needs
They are heroes...
🙏🏼Amen to this 👌🏼
Not at all related to PGW, but I have recently dug out my copy of Nella Last's "War" diary - for re-reading and thinking that then, as now, so many were scared that they would not survive the next week, let alone the duration of the war for however long that would take. And we won't have the equivalent of a V-E or a V-J Day - there certainly will not be a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square.
Your voice, Nick Martin, is coming via my laptop instead of a radio, but it is to the same purpose: SOS [Saving Our Sanity]. Many thanks.
Idk how I missed this 2 wks ago but am so glad I didnt miss out all together! Tysm for your dedication to all the heroes serving the public & putting themselves in harms way. It is a shame that it takes something like this for us to finally pull together & also for us to recognise those who have been protecting & serving before & beyond this crisis. God Bless one & all!
@@TedaR Yes, I think my YT notifications are not too reliable either. Anyway glad you got it. More to come! Keep well
I thought I would not like this narrator, but I do! Many of these chaps take on the project with a goal of finishing the story in a shorter time than any of the others. But this lovely man reads rather slowly, which is very nice, after all.
agreed
In these times that try men’s (and women’s) souls, there is a beacon,,,, a ray of sunshine beaming through the grey heaviness of uncertainties that avail us all at this juncture of our existence. That ray of sunshine would be you sir. Thank you once again for another brilliant and thoroughly entertaining performance. I believe P G would be very pleased with your rendition of his work. Thank you Nick, be safe and be well.
Well, I;m not sure if such flattery is terribly good for a chap, but very pleased that you enjoyed it! Thank you.
Trickynicky Marts , I’m compensating for a couple of stories I have enjoyed but may not have expressed my appreciation. Besides, you’re worth it old chap and it really doesn’t take that much to pen a few kind words.
I listened to one of your narrow boat narrations, the Tunnel, but I can’t seem to find it or the other one now. Could you guide me. I love inland waterways and believe if I lived over there I would be drawn to narrow boat life.
@@prairiecracker214 yes, kind words go far! Actually I took the canal stories off thinking maybe I could do something better with them. Sorry I haven't yet. Will look into it. Ah, the canal life is a grand one. Cheers
@@prairiecracker214 same here! Happy, healthy listening & living kindred! God Bless!
Well said , I agree
I don’t believe there is a better reader of Wodehouse than Nick Martin. Thanks for your clarity and marvellous voices and perfect pacing. 👍
Gosh, glad it hits the spot for you! Thank you.
Laughed out loud many times thanks to the wonderful combo of your skilled narration, Mr. Martin, and Mr. Wodehouse's humor. So funny 😂
Bravo🎉
I have never read a book in which every sentence...every word holds such jumor and imagination as P.G.'s works. And your voice and talent of bringing out the characters is amazing! Thank you for another wonderful read and I so hope that you will find the time to do many more. They manage to get me out of no matter how low a mood. From the moment I start listening to the very end I sit with a huge smile on my face and laugh heartily all the way :))
Yes, I'm with you all the way! Thank you and I am certain more will come along soon!
Just so, Nick. I hope we will remember and value them when this has all passed. (on a lighter note thank you very much for an hour away from the current situation.)
Bravo, Nick Martin!
Wonderfully entertaining readings of Wodehouse ... these are a treasure. Thank you.
Hello from Russia! You really do justice to Wodehouse. Good egg! No other blighter on the internet does it like you.
Ivan, what a top chap you are and certainly you English must be a darn sight better than my Russian!
Right-o! Never happier than when I am exercising the old cerebellum...
Ah good show. It seems my English is not up to much as I noticed I could not even spell 'your' properly!
@@Trickynickymarts do you know any Russian?
I do know one charming Russian lady but Russian language, sorry no.
A real treat. Many thanks.
cheers Geoff
New to PGW Nick and very grateful to have found your renditions first. The gold standard. Thanks mate.
Great, thanks - try another!
i love opening youtube and seeing a new video by you. superlative.
Thank you - more on the way.
I am very picky about Wodehouse narrators. You pulled it off beautifully!!
Thanks. In that case you pick it and I'll pull it!
I meant to fall asleep to this story when I put it on, as is my frequent habit, but it was so cleverly funny (Thanks, Wodehouse!) and engagingly read (Thanks, Martin!) that I couldn't. Wonderfully done.
Thanks!
Same here
Thank you very much for this. I do enjoy listening to this very nice reading.
Good, plenty more to go at now!
Thank you for these marvellous readings. It is a joy to listen to them and be transported to the world of Wodehouse.
Brilliant - thank you Rosie
Nick thanks a lot. I'm impressed. Beautiful intonation. Speech is easily perceived. Typical English nice diction. I enjoy listening to the stories you read.
Thank you Liana, that's great!
Not gonna lie… I have referrred back to this like 15 times and it NEVER gets old. 💕❤💕
I love your narration + I'm having a wonderful time listening to (all) these beautiful + hilarious stories. Many thanks for all your dedication + hard work. From an Ossie fan. 👇💜🙃
Many thanks for all your recent comments of appreciation here and on the other stories. All the best to you way down under from wild Wales!
Tricky is a STAR… IM in OZ too , born in London…
So lovely to hear this 👍🏻the only thing we need during these times
Thank you for these gems. Enjoying tremendously
That's great, thank you.
The man of many voices… You are Bertie, you are Jeeves, I can lip sync these now…😆
Ha! Thank you.
Nick, I was truly taken aback to discover your PG version, why ? Because you are so damn good, unique; an absolute pleasure to listen to, many thanks, please keep up the good work.
Thank you Robert. More to come in a while.
The way you do Bertie's voice is goofiness personified. We want Wooster! Your work is much appreciated, Nick💪✌️👏Are there any new readings of Wodehouse in the making? Greetings from Poland 😎
This Friday night - yes PGW!
More, please! Thanks to to all involved: Plum, Mr. Martin, and YT for a great Christmas present!
Been a few more since that one. Thanks and merry Christmas!
@@Trickynickymarts Yes, there are, and I hope to be listening to them all!😃
I can't thank you enough !
"England's premiere warts" 🤣
Ha! Yes, I suppose that they weren't his first choice for a country house stay away!
Wodehouse theology, according to Wooster: "We must put our trust in a Higher Power ... Jeeves!" (9:17)
Ha! Yes he's on another level!
I've heard and watched a fair number of performances of Wodehouse; I enjoyed this as much as any.
You had a troll on here a couple years back; please ignore comments such as theirs. Here's why I think so highly of your reading, beyond the pure fun: I have problematic trouble with my attention span, but I was able to follow you word for word and scene for scene. That doesn't usually happen with audiobooks. Thanks.
Thank you very much. More this Friday night.
Good read
Excellent lighthearted fun. Thank you.
Great reading, thank you.
Thanks for sharing your amazing talent with all of us! Rumpole of the Bailey...?
Thank you. Rumpole maybe a bit complicated for my simple old lemon.
@@Trickynickymarts Come now dear, from what I have been privileged to hear, I reckon nothing to be beyond your God given gifts & talent!
@@TedaR Ha! you are such a flatterer - they do say it gets you everywhere!
@@Trickynickymarts Here's hoping that's true...lol But I did mean it. I do enjoy Rumpy but I love PGW, & you do it justice! Thanks for all you do for us, your loyal subjects! ([]8
Excellent! I thought you were going to sing at the end! All the best.
Now that would have spoilt it! Thanks you too.
Another excellent tale, thanks.
absolutely brilliant!!! Have listened to all tricky nicky narrations many times over as they are that good and I enjoy them so much. Any others in the pipeline??
Thank you! Yes, I will be doing some more soon I hope - just been a bit busy with other stuff over the summer. Cheers Nick
Your outtakes make this perfect!
Excellent!
Very entertaining, and beautifully read. Thank you, that was a very enjoyable accompaniment to preparing supper!
Nick Martin does a very credible acting. Quite please with performance
Thank you
This sound speed drags too slow, slightly. If you up the Playback Speed to 1.25 the voices sound normal.
Fair enough
I agree 1.25 much better.
So funny I laughed out loud!!!
Good on you Maeve - it's got to be a good thing!
Excellent great 👍 👌
Thank you 🌷🌸💐
Cheers Linda
Thank you 😊
I just loved them also the Jeeves and Wooster series
thank you !
Jeeves & Wooster (not in title)
So many errors of reading/pronunciation . Sad, but it jars one out of the tale.
He's got a lovely voice and is ruining the reading. Well, skipping him from now on. Too bad. Fortunately there are other choices.
Liz Adams perhaps you ladies should try reading in your parlor and silently. Crabs!
I don't think you and your single fan actually have a clue. I presume you are not English and I further presume you both have hearing issues ! His voice is perfect, his pronunciation is perfect and the accent for the era the story is set in is perfect !
@@lizadams7662 Can you even cite an example? I thought not.
@@lizadams7662 You must live quite a miserable life is a few variations in pronunciation “is ruining the reading” for you.
I'm skipping this reader from now on. Lovely voice, ignorant mispronunciations. It's too disappointing. He's butchering the work.
Oh dear, so sorry for such a disappointment. Please educate me before you skip away Liz. Ignorance can only be overcome by sharing knowledge. Butchery was not the intention! Thanks
Good thing I don't have a trained ear. Sounds funny and charming to me. To each his own, can't please everyone, I guess.
try another story
Your comment is just too thick! However I look forward to your reading of it eh?
What words is he mispronouncing?
The word “honor” has a silent “h”, so why does the reader pronounce Honoria with a hard “h”?
And when she is criticizing Bertie Wooster, she says her aunt says he was an “invertebrate waster”, which is a misreading. Wodehouse wrote “an inveterate waster”. Some ought to have acted as a Director for this production to catch such errors.
Just enjoy the story, its not a degree in English literature
Bertie often mispronounces words! He has half a brain by his own admission. You should acquaint yourself with more Wooster stories.
Pince nez is not pronounced “ponce nay”,
As the voiceover says it, but more like “pants nay”. Think of “vin ordinaire “ and make the pince rhyme with the “i” in vin.
Many thanks for that. Actually very useful because the specs will be coming up again in the near future with another story I have in mind and I won't sound so unwise! Cheers
@@Trickynickymarts Just a troll, Mr Martin. They are all over the internet collecting clicks, for some reason.
The reader really makes a hash of things. When Bertie surprises Miss Sippoli in the shrubbery, she is said to execute a leap like a dancer who steps on a tin tack halfway through The Vision of Salome. And instead of pronouncing it correctly (Sal oh may), he calls her Salome to rhyme with Stallone. Dreadful nonsense. Probably he doesn’t even know who Salome was!
All fair points Jude I am sure and no doubt others have noticed errors too but have not had the inclination to point them out. Thank you for your honesty. Some of your points have been addressed in later readings.
I have a degree in Linguistics and spot every single one of Nick's errors. The difference is, you think self aggrandising mudslinging will sort it out. I also have a PhD in Pedagogy, and the way to encourage accuracy is to leave it to the professionals who understand how people learn. You clearly are NOT one of those. Instead you promote embarrassment and come across as arrogant. Nick reads these in his beautiful soothing voice, out of sheer pleasure and you choose to insult, criticise and troll. Far better all round if you give him a miss.
Well, I for one love hearing these stories. And all I can say is …those who can…often, thankfully do, so thank you Nick…and those who can’t, prefer to critique and nitpick. But the world thanks you for your attention to detail Jude Irwin!
@@janerigg9358 Bit smug and pompous yourself.
