The story is so very British and just hilarious. And Nick brings it to life with his amazing delivery. Jeeves deadpan voice has me rolling on the floor in laughter.
I’ve just been listening to this one again for what must be the fiftieth time at least, while doing the washing up, and had to stop to mop the tears of laughter running down my face 😅
@@clivejones1152 very close call! Jonathan Cecil is a trained actor/ narrator. Mr. Martin is neither yet does an excellent job at bringing our beloved characters to life. That said, it’s perhaps an unfair comparison.

Happy new year to you all and thank you for all the likes, subs and very kind comments here and for the other stories. This one does seem quite popular so I think another Jeeves story will be coming next - just need to completely shake off a recent dreaded winter lurgy! Cheers Nick
Recently found that amazing channel. Very talented narrator Trickynicky Marts, no idea why he has only 8.7 K subscribers. But the AI CLAUDE telling me that nowadays - " P.G. Wodehouse would not be considered a mainstream author in 2023, though he retains a devoted following to this day. Some key reasons: "- Peak popularity in early 20th century: Wodehouse was most prolific and well-known for his humorous stories and novels in the early 1900s through the 1930s. His popularity and cultural relevance has diminished over time. - Genre rooted in past era: Wodehouse's stories often focused on aristocratic British society during the early 1900s Edwardian era and World War I time periods. This gives his work a nostalgic, dated quality. - Quintessentially British humor/style: His very British humor, settings, slang, and prose style have less relatability and accessibility for modern general audiences, especially outside the UK. - Declining interest in comedy of manners genre: Wodehouse pioneered a distinct "comedy of manners" style that resonated more widely in the early 20th century than today. So while P.G. Wodehouse is still appreciated by many as an influential early 20th century humorist, he occupies a niche, nostalgia-tinged place in the modern literary landscape versus retaining mainstream popularity in 2023. His most dedicated fans tend to be history and classic literature buffs. But his works provide a charming window for audiences then and now to enjoy his era. " But I love P.G. Wodehouse dearly and thank you very much for your narrations!
Brilliant narration! thoroughly enjoyed this. Nearly didn't recognise the sound l kept making, then relized it was spontaneous laughter😂... not done much of that since lock down.Hope there's more to come, you're by far the best👏👏👏👏👏
Nick, chumrade, are you really just a hobbyist doing this? I stumbled across your P.G. Wodehouse stories and subsequently googled and searched imdb and Amazon for Nick Martin, actor. You are very talented and could give many a professional actor a run for their money. Take it from one.
Thank you VERY MUCH. If anyone is interested there are FOUR seasons of Jeeves and Wooster tv episodes on UA-cam. Warning: I recommend listening to as many of these audios before WATCHING the tv version. For me, I’m having a hard time getting used to the “voices” of the narrator(who is fantastic) not matching up to the voices of Jeeves and Wooster in the 23 episodes played by Stephen Fry & Hugh Laurie
Thank you Nick, this Corona virus feels a bit like xmas somehow in a weird way. You are just so brilliant, I cannot listen to anyone else but you on woodhouse, you are a whole theatre. Just brilliant. Do the Hollywood moguls know you exist or you are just happy doing this? Cause we listeners certainly are but you are truly so talented. Thank you!!
Hello again and thank you! Yes it looks we might all be cooped up for while and I will jolly well have to get on with doing another one. But the mood has to be on the board, don't you know! Cheers for now, Nick

I never thought there could exist a PGW performer whose talent could surpass the great Jonathan Cecil. I was wrong. I sleep with Plum every night and this is the first time I just *HAD* to turn on the lamp to find out the name of the narrator. I hope there are many more Nick Martin renditions available. Needless to say, I'm a new subscriber.
@@Trickynickymarts : Yes I checked them out. Most are fairly short for overnight use but maybe I can figure out how to automatically play one after another. Can't tell you how pleased I was to discover your channel, Nick. Thank you for your kind reply.
@@Trickynickymarts : Thank you. I think if I go to your list of videos & click on 'PLAY ALL' that should work. Thank you once again for your thoughtful reply.
Yasmin Roberts Yasmin Roberts What version of wind and the willows? Hume Cronyn read two of the Toad chapters and this doesn’t sound like Toad. His wife, Jessica Tandy read one, maybe two of the Toad chapters, too. This was Pathway of Sound records. Wonderful albums of Wind in the Willows.
