Considering getting this lens still in 2020, because at the time of my writing you can get one for under $450 whereas the superior 16-35 f4L runs around $800+ used. For a pro-sumer tier photographer, this seems decent enough and hard to justify dropping another $350-400 to have a little sharper glass.
I'm a little confused. At f4, the depth of field is shallow. Why would the rock be in focus and sharp when the focus is on the lighthouse? At f8, of course more things would be in focus. It seems like you're trying to say stopping it down increases the overall sharpness in the corners, but stopping down would also increase the depth of field. How do you know which is which?
Ohh i think this is the best day of my youtube life my god your the first youtuber to reply to my comment i'm very thankful by the way, your videos are great i've learned a lot keep making videos i,will support as always
The 17-40 is a great lens. Sure, the 16-35 is better, but it’s around 900€ vs the 400€ used mark you can get this one for. I got one used, I replaced the rear gasket for 2€ and now it’s like brand new, it has survived Iceland! BTW, its best performance is between f/5.6 and f/11, you can totally shoot it at f/16 if you need, but yeah you’ll lose some resolution
I have had this lens for ages. It is soooo medicore. Seriously - it's good for interiors on a full frame camera at f8. Anything below and for video or on apsc it is just very dissapointing. Autofocus is aduible and if you have mic mounted on your camera it will pick up the nosie.
So I'm considering this lens for real estate photography. I know it's not the best (and fairly awful around the edges at 17mm) but is it good enough to shoot interiors professionally (with adding detail and sharpening in post when needed)?
I forgot to mention this in the video
But all the photos were taken on my Canon EOS R
Let me know if you have any videos you want to see from me
Ohhh really? I am going to buy canon eos rp with this lens 17-40mm f4... Is it sounds good ?
Can we use 17-40mm lense in canon 200d
Wow where have you been its been so long dont leave us again please
Great video. however one correction, stepping down from f/8 to f/16 is two stops not one stop as you said in the video. Cheers

Welcome back. Cool you're doing reviews on these great lenses that have been out awile.
Ya! I figured I would review them in 2019 and see if they are still worth it!
Oh this one definitely is worth it....this lens has been on my radar for about a year now.....my birthday present to myself this year !
OMG, you're back!!! Thank goodness! It was like I was missing an old friend :) Now can you please review the Viltrox adapter?
New year, new look haha I miss you man, greatings from colombia
Thanks man!
Great video! Is there any loud autofocus noise coming from the lens during video?
I'm wondering the same...
Its 50% off on canons store
Is this lens good on a t6i?
What if i can combine this lens with 600d camera?
QUESTION: The 17mm focal length of this lens would be 27mm on the APS-C Canon 90D camera correct?
19 mm
L lenses are art in themselves 👌
In Canon, L is all you should buy since the rest of glass is not that good
ayyyy I’ve been waiting to find a video on this lens
Can do a comparison video between 11 24 and 17 40
does it fit the Canon T8i ??????
One I want to add this year to my camera kit
Definitely worth having!
Nice video review! BTW did you say this lens takes drop-in filters?
Is it worth buying this lens if I have a Canon 80D?
Better buy the 10-18 if you want a full ultra wide angle
This is really good lens thanks for making this video
can you use this lens on the sony a7m iii with the sigma mc-11 adapter?
YES YOU CAN
That lighthouse looks like the Nubble in York, Maine..? Thanks for the helpful video!
You are correct!
Does this work with the t6i?
Yes. It takes EF lenses

F4 does not really work for me. Unless I'm shooting a long exposure.
Haha!
Maine?
Yes sir!
Great review. Thanks very much.
No problem thanks for watching!
Wondering if it's good for portraits??
No for portrait you really want something with a longer focal length like 85mm -200mm

where did you buy the replacement gasket
Elder Lich on Amazon, but you can find it on eBay too. It’s the same gasket as the 24-105
Very cool. I just need them all... lol
Yes haha
