I bought my first truck when I was 16. It was a 72 f100 and that was in 1980. this truck looks a whole lot better than mine did in 1980. Mine was a Massachusetts truck its whole life and was pretty rotted when I got it.
Nice truck. I had a 71 sports custom. Mine had a 302 with a three on the tree manual. Your switch issue might be park and neutral switch. Move your shifter and see if it will start. Or it's just worn out. I had a Galaxy that did the same thing. I just bypasted it. Only thing it would start in any gear.
Probably if you hold it firmly into Park while you turn the key, the neutral safety switch is out of adjustment. Try starting it while you have it held firmly into Park. My assessment on that truck is that it was some old man's daily driver approximately 5 years ago. He couldn't drive anymore so the family sold it to the wrecking yard because he didn't know what to do with it. So it probably hasn't been that long since it's been running. All that happens in about 5 years with the gas sitting there.
The advice regarding the neutral safety switch and the shift arm position is correct. The 1967-72 Fords are notorious for having a shift collar that gets sloppy due to wear which is what causes the problem. If you push the shift arm to the left while engaging the key that often realigns the neutral safety switch and the truck will start. It also may align by simply placing the shift lever in the neutral position. If the shift collar is bad and you are crafty, you may be able to repair it. If you cannot effect repairs then they are available as brand new the last time I checked. Obviously, the neutral safety switch works thus the odds are high the shift collar is the problem. If that isn't the case then be careful and adjust the neutral safety switch in very small increments until it is positioned correctly
When I seen that younger looking hand pump that gas at that carburetor. I really don't know what took so long. It's not fragile. It's not gonna brack. Pump that MF.
Put a edelbrock 650 carb on it. Its a close instead of fighting with a worn out throttle shaft and other issues with it. I work on old junk for a living. It's a little money but less headaches.
If you jump the solenoid and it triggers the starter, your problem isn't the solenoid. You probably have a chewed/broken wire between the ignition switch and the solenoid. Could also be corrosion on the switch terminals. If you rebuilt the original carburetor, you would have saved significant time over swapping in 2 other carbs hoping for a good one. Great save of a classic truck.
M’eh, I live on the edge 🔥 in all seriousness when I was in elementary school my father’s truck, identical to this except a ‘71 battery’s blew up in his face. Thankfully he always wore glasses 🤓 otherwise the battery acid / explosion would likely have blinded him. He later told me to never hit a battery terminal to tighten the connection with a ballpeen hammer 🔨 he still has the truck, 1 owner
Hy i dont think you have to change the selenoide its only the start send position from the key switch that is not feeding voltageTo the selenoide first check if is a neutral switch on the tranny or shifter if not check the wire from the key switch to the selenoide if yes you have a neutral switch check if you have continuty trough the neutral switch too the selenoide then too the key switch finaly check if the neutral goes to closed to open circuit when you put the shifter in gear wish this will help ps excuse my writing i usualy speak french in canada
Well here we go again another good Ford ute in the hands of the demolisher, i hope this one doesnt end up like the first one he draged out of the bush with a camper van on it and he stripped it and never put it back together again.
@@timothypriest4791 if i started work on a vehicle i always finished puting it back together again, this bloke never puts anything back together again, check all his other videos and you will see what i mean
I was wondering when was going to use the throttle, and fill the bowl up on the carburetor instead of washing down the cylinders with all that gas. And the positive cable should be the last to remove and the first to replace. I don’t care even if the battery is dead. Seems like a smooth running motor though.
float is stuck in that other carburetor and it's the safety neutral switch why the the switch doesn't work if you pull up on the shifter handle crank over the engine
where did you guys lean about charging batteries ,Disconnecting and connecting batteries . First never charge a battery with both lead of battery hooked up to vehicle ,2rd never undo the positive first when neg earth , 3rd never put both leads on a new battery and then do them up .Active all ways first tighten then put the neg on
Correct, charge a battery when it is disconnected. It's also wise to make sure your battery is charged up long before you attempt to start working on your vehicle.
Rusty its been stitting with the battery on wires //ele crap builds up on main body plug full of crap ..take out middle bolt and pull of main wire plug in will have all wirers to crap elel power build -up and spray out and clean all of this wireplug big its a big plug and all run better //lights and switchs

That open vacuum port is for the vacuum advance that comes off the distributor won't run right with a open vacuum and will have a high idle.

Thanks James! Nice! I love these old trucks Thanks for the tip I will try that this week.
Simple open gas pipe to engine and see whether fuel pump is pumping or not
Sounds awesome neutral safety switch isn’t working or it’s out of adjustment that’s why you have to jump the solenoid
Good observation

Try plugging the vacuum lines and turn down the idle screw …
Sounds like a leaf blower😄
It fired without cleaning the points, can't believe you haven't made a kit out of it yet, could be a good driver.

Put grease on the tap to capture cuttings.
When connecting a car battery, you should always connect the positive terminal first, then the negative.

May need a neutral safty switch. That will stop it from starting.
Thanks Andrew! I will take a look at the switch this week.
The old Ford trucks did not have that feature.
I have a 1967 for Galaxy 500 and the power window does not work.❤
Could be a bad motor or blown fuse?
The truck is dehydrated by the look of the gas
I agree
Thanks Rusty!

That other carburetor still in good shape just put the accelerator pump and that other orange thing back in there and get the float unstuck perfectly

Your switch is bad or your neutral safety starting switch is bad.
I still think that has an ignition push switch on the floor
There’s NOT a push button start on a 72 ford. Basically the last push button I saw on the floor was a like a 56- 57 Chevrolet.
just let it run more you never know it might clear up

compare the length of that arm that has to be the same length
Get a squirt bottle for your gas! Don’t pour from the gas can!
flush it out with diesel fuel ontill in it comes out clean //keep repouring to clean it //it worrks the best then add S T P //FOR LONG LIFE
probably not just replace it all
big carbs I have never installed a kit just more parts
You need someone that can pump that gas
no that old diaphragm pump is crackly if its crackly it will not work
Float stuck in carberator
just remove the nut off that choke its simple just pay attention to the linkages
take pictures with a cell phone before you take anything apart, then you have a guide
P tap on a carburetor pppp
