I literally started the game, with only the knowledge that there would be farming and dating ahead of me, and as soon as I saw Robin I thought "that one, I'm gonna date that one". The knowledge that she isn't dateable still pains me to this day.
I'd say the one cute marital relationship in Stardew is Evelyn and George. Sure, he's a grump, but for all his grouching he never says a single unkind thing about his wife. And she's so fond of him every time she tells a story from their memories together.
I always got that vibe that George is a really sweet guy deep down. My favorite line George said in one of the festivals that Evelyn made him his favorite meal eggs and leeks and is in good spirits and I thought aww so sweet.
@@yesthatmousyiris4887I love when he’s like “garlic mashed potatoes? I love this place!” Or something like that. Also his “I can move myself” scene with penny is so righteous, great representation of folks with disabilities
In defense of Evelyn: when you’re known for making one thing, you like it but you don’t want other people to give it to you. Evelyn knows she makes the best cookies, but probably not the best chocolate cake. So the cake is a treat, and the cookies are mundane.
It's also not reasonable to be making chocolate cake every few days just as a treat, that's a lot of food. But cookies are easier to make, easier to share, and easier to keep from going bad.
One thing that bothers me about Robin is that she stuck her son in the basement with no window, which he will say he dislikes. Not only is it stupid because she can literally make another room, but the lack of a window is a serious health hazard.
@@alyshaharper8730even if that was the case, it’s still robin’s responsibility to have safe living conditions for her son. I don’t really like the vitriol ppl have for Demetrius
Didn't she also try to get rid of Seb's comic books? I don't see enough people bringing up those flaws up about Robin. Instead, they would simp for her and only bash Demetrius.
@@Jess-iq1bwnah. My own mother would absolutely sell me down the road and make me feel small so that I kept my wings clipped and in my 'place' in the family. Their dynamic always seemed off to me, and I never interact with them. Still friends with the kids, it is not their fault.
And then there's the farmer's mother who's more than willing to keep it at one letter all three years and some cash (or cookies). No wonder my cellar is full of wine 🍷
She even says that she spoils her kids by not giving them too many chores, and says she wants them to have the freedom she couldn't have; she's great, just tired from it all.

I think the wiki refers to how Robin allowed Sebastian to be shoved in the basement with no window, which in a lot of countries is not considered an adequate room. Despite the fact that the lab could’ve been in the basement or Robin simply built him a room, also the fact that she allowed Demetrius to treat her son like that. I can understand why Sebastian feels abandoned by his family, his sister gets a whole room with a basement and observatory, she also gets a lab with her dad and he just got given the basement. And no one respects his job. I can see why, I wish Robin had an arc where she sees how her son is treated by Demetrius and tells him off for it, she’s not a bad mum, but I wish she stood up for her kid more
She is a bad mom by your own definition, what do u mean a arch where robin will all of a sudden realise her misdoings. She deserves as much hate towards her as demetris does.
Honestly, I don't think Caroline did cheat on Pierre- I think it was much weirder than that. There are a few things that stand out to me. First, Caroline admits to having spent time near the Wizard's tower in the time Abigail was conceived- something she would be unlikely to admit if she had been having an affair, placing herself at the "scene of the crime" as it were. Second, she says she wishes Abigail would "stop" dyeing her hair, and that it resembled her grandmother's hair, "light chestnut-colored hair", like Pierre's. Abigail confirms that the purple was not her original color, but that "it never fades from this color". But what makes me think the Wizard didn't cheat on his wife is the line, "It's rare, but it does happen." He could be referring to a birth control method failing, but frankly I'm dubious that a small town could have a woman become pregnant with no available father and have no one comment on it (such as Marnie, with no mention of past partners). The gravestone for Mona makes no mention of motherhood, which is almost inevitable on women's gravestones, which makes her unlikely in my eyes, and if she were his "other woman" it would be fairly obvious to him. I think that Caroline's time near the Wizard's tower during her conception time frame exposed Abigail to the Wizard's magic and contaminated (for lack of a better word) her. His magic changed her, making her his child just as much as Pierre's and Caroline's. Caroline would have no reason to suspect this, and so no reason not to admit to the farmer she was near the Wizard's tower. Pierre would notice that his child resembled another man, despite her similarities to him while younger, and draw conclusions. The Wizard would be unsure of it (while having had sex with the mother would make it very likely) and have reason to comment on its rarity. The Wizard's wife left him after a "mistake"- perhaps a mistake like not containing his magic enough. And what curse does she cast on the farmer? Putting a strange, changed chicken in their nests, and changing their slimes unnaturally.
Abigail is a void kid then! Love that! Explains her interest in all things "gloomy" as she says, as well as why she gets along with Seb, who's favorite thing is a void egg! Best fan theory I've see yet!
So like I feel that when I say I love a Stardew Valley character, I am not saying I agree with 100% of their choices really. I’m saying that their story speaks to me and I find it relatable. I think Abigail is so popular because so many people felt the same way she does about her parents when they were growing up. Like, yeah of course hot goth baddie, but her situation is relatable and that seals the deal. I think Penny is a little less generally relatable, but as someone who grew up as a caretaker for their family I feel drawn to her story. Taking care of a drunk mother is not boring, it’s absolutely fucking devastating and life altering and I wish more people understood the reality her situation represents because I have personally lived it. So, my point. Jodi. Why is she so controversial then? Her character is definitely relatable, but her open resentment of her situation makes people…. Uncomfortable. People don’t often vocalize these feelings, and hearing or reading them can remind us of the resentment we feel in our own lives. I think it’s easy to call Jodi’s actually feelings towards her family problematic without unpacking everything, until you realize that the Jodi doesn’t vocalize these feelings to anyone except for her closest friends, and she really does try her best despite feeling conflicted. Just like a regular person, Jodi keeps going while doing nothing about her resentment and I think this leads many to feel they are looking into a mirror and they don’t like that. We don’t really get a conclusion to this feeling for Jodi, but oftentimes in real life they do end in some action being taken to handle the resentment. Jodi being stuck in this limbo is terrifying to people. Great video! I love how you talk about things. Please make more lore videos.
On your “how are you [Evelyn] the cookie lady when you prefer chocolate cake” tangent, I can very much relate to Evelyn’s plight lol. Being good at something doesn’t mean you like it, and sometimes you just get joy out of other people enjoying them rather than necessarily liking it yourself. As a fun example and anecdote, I’m the “cake person” of the family and my friend group - if anyone needs a cake and doesn’t know how to go about it, I’m their go to. If they want a cake made, I’m probably the one making it. Cake is genuinely one of the last desserts I would ever choose to eat. The main reason my cakes taste good is because I make them the only way I’d willingly eat them, with a nice fluffy icing with just enough powdered sugar to hold its shape for more detailed piping, and literally every effort made to keep the cake from even thinking about drying out. I can probably make a cake from scratch without measuring and can do a full three tiered design in less than 2 hours after the rounds cool, but the cost of that was making so many cakes that the smell of powdered sugar makes me feel ill and my wrists definitely getting pissy if I take longer than that to get my shit together 😂😂 As the non cake favoring cake person, though, I’m a big fan of fudgy brownies, fruit pie, and pumpkin muffins, especially if I’m not the one who has to make them ❤️
I've always see Rasmodius as Caroline's astranged father personally. Like, girly has daddy issues, tried to connect with him by visiting his place, he decided to ignore her, the witch thought his daughter Caroline was Razzy's side ho, she left, he kept ignoring his daughter and she gave up trying to speak with him. Caroline and Abigail both inherited the odd perma-hair-dye trait from him. And bc of my interpretation of the lore I cannot look at Caroline x Rasmodius with a straight face
one thing is certain about motherhood: i never felt the calling, and boy is that a blessing. and no, i will not treat those who choose it as martyrs. they’re my neutrals. we both saw a fork in the road. i made my choice.
Well, DEMETRIUS, I figured a SCIENTIST would know that a vegetable is any edible part of a plant, and that the same word can have different technical meanings in different fields, such as botany and gastronomy. Poser.
i think the dynamic between Robin and Demetrius is really tone-dependent. Him saying "She's got a fiery temper, stay on her good side, don't tell her I said that" with a wink is really different from him saying "stay on her good side" like it's a dire warning. A wry "if anyone needs me I'll be in the doghouse" is really different from a heated "oh great, so I'm in the doghouse again". As for the complaining-- plenty of married couples will kvetch a little about their spouse in private, but that doesn't mean they don't love each other and enjoy the life they share. The kvetching, on its own, is not evidence of mutual dislike unless you the player want it to be. and I'll be so honest I really thought they were both wrong and weird in the tomato scene! who the hell sends someone grocery shopping and the list just says "fruit"? with zero additional guidance? bananas scratch a very different itch than grapes, you know? But how to interpret both their actions in that scene is really up to the player. Like maybe he was being kinda petty and punishing her for her nonspecificity, or maybe he was really trying to give her what she wanted, or maybe she was setting him up because she was in a bad mood or spoiling for a fight, or maybe she thought he should know better by now. Those two characters more than any other ones in the game seem like I could read their dynamic as being totally warm and comfortable-- they have a standing date to go out dancing every week! They have dramatic little spats about nothing and then miss each other and go to stand on the cliff looking at nature to make up! Or I could read it as toxic, two people who are ill-suited who just complain about each other all the time. I'm trying to think if there's any other character in the game that gives me such a clear split in interpretations, both options completely defensible, and I really can't!
Ok this event is after the bulltion board is built in fall if you do robin hard wood request. Robin spends a good amount of time making a even bigger bed. Instead of parsing and complement his wife on her good work Demetrius tell her that the bed she built was unseary.

VERY well done video. Just "moved to the valley" a few weeks ago, and between all the farming and flirting it's been a bit tough memorizing all the townsfolk and their drama. Glad someone could put it all together for me. :)
I liked this video! Good content choice, as a mom myself who loves stardew, now I have a way better idea of who I want to keep for close friends in the game 😄
I thought I was the only one who chose vegetable just because I don't like Demetrius I don't really care about his friendship Demetrius is dismissive and looks down on people
Inspired by Jodi's character design (especially in winter), I came up with the following theory: To me, Jodi appears to be the kind of woman that had many expectations for her future as an adult, but ended up marrying her high-school sweetheart and had children at a young age - Sam is an adult, but to me Jodi looks noticeably younger than Caroline. Jodi and Kent moved to the city at some point before or in Sam's life, but it didn't really work out (because even if you don't take the war into account, garbage man probably wasn't Kent's dream job). Sam is very protective of Vincent and feels responsible for him, which is a character trait that might have developed long before the war because their parents couldn't cover all fronts. All things considered, I think that Jodi expected a lot more from her life than what she ended up with; and while she loves her family and is doing her best, I feel like a major reason for her being burnt out is that this isn't the life she had hoped for. This would explain why she constantly mentions how she doesn't have a single moment to herself.
I always consider tomatoes a fruit because it is a seeded vessel of the plant just like apples or bananas. No one considers it a fruit because it's not sweet and almost never eaten on its own. From the definition of vegetables, if we ate the stem or leaves of a tomato plant, then you could call that a vegetable
With Caroline and Abby's fight, a) I dont think it is Caroline who has the issue with Abbigail's clothes, I think it's Pierre but because Pierre is the way he is, it's Caroline who spoke to their daughter about it and b) I think it is less that Caroline was TELLING Abby what to wear but more things like Caroline asking why she can't dress more traditially feminine or a little more conservatively. They live in a small town and Abby runs around in hotpants / miniskirts, her sprite isn't clear but I digress. The fight is more a concerned mum clashing with her daughter due to how fashion changes so drastically from one generation to the next. Which is honestly the most normal conflict in this game. Edit: Also I love Jodi, but her whole thing about being married young, the big age difference between her kids and the fact that, I dunno she seems a lot younger then Caroline and Robin, it all just screams teenage pregnancy leading to a shotgun wedding. Which can also explain why she has such mixed feelings about motherhood and why she spoils the boys, wanting them to be kids as long as possible... because she got pregnant at like 17 or 18 and suddenly she's not a teenager anymore, she's a parent and a wife, plus Kent enlists, probably so Jodi can have the military spouse support while he's deployed so she's also essentially a single mum despite being married and I think she's just a bit overwhelmed sometimes.
Hey, I usually don't leave comments, but I've been enjoying your videos about SDV recently and wanted to let you know. Now it's awkward because I don't know what else to say, hahaha. Well, bye, thanks for the content you share!
I don't know whether it was confirmed that Robin was married before, but I always imagined she got pregnant with Sebastian out of wedlock and that she met Dimetrius either while pregnant or while Seb was still and infant, since him and Maru are so close in age. I can't imagine that Robin would marry, have a kid, divorce, and marry again so soon after.
I think Evelyn only likes cookies and not loves them, because she bakes them so often. Maybe it's become a part of a routine and the chocolate cake is something new?
i think it’s definitely important kent apologizes to her because she clearly doesn’t really understand his ptsd, he lashed out and so apologized, which is good. but there definitely should be a conversation between them (that doesn’t seem to happen, jodi will say kent “seems” nervous often)
Something that initially made me dislike Jodi but lead to me liking her more as I reflected on it was her resentful tone when commenting on your buying Pam and Penny a house; considering how difficult and stressful she finds motherhood it'd make sense for her to really dislike Pam being so careless about how her own choices and selection of her drinking habit over her daughter's welfare as Jodi is someone who is deeply invested in her family above herself. She probably really hates knowing that someone who has never visibly made sacrifices for her family like Pam gets a massive amount of help from the player. That being said.... I got the house for Penny, not Pam lol. Jodi, you already have a lovely house! tf do you want me to buy you
dont worry theres more to the woman who had an affair with a wizard, has a child that she gaslights pierre into believing is his, and drinks hallucinogenic tea. 😂
i have wondered if Caroline with the green hair is the green witch that flies around damning everything ... broken marriage ...sealed out of town ... Pieree to move back to town with her ... And also Abby and Emily are the blue hairs ... whats up with that ... half sisters?
I will tell all Alex haters to play as a male character and go through his heart events because his acceptance of his sexuality and identity is so much better than if you play as a female
I don’t think Abigail is the Wizard’s kid, if only because of some throw-away dialogue with Caroline where she complains about Abigail dyeing her hair (which seems pretty hypocritical to me, no way that green hair is natural lmao).
More specifically, Abigail mentions that it’s been forever since she’s had to dye it purple. Which could be stating it’s supernaturally retained the dye color, or just a cheeky joke at the fact that her character model never changes lol
I don’t think the wizard is her real father either but Caroline still had an affair with the wizard. Maybe Emily is her secret love child she had before she met Pierre.

Instead of parsing and complement his wife on her good work Demetrius tell her that the bed she built was unseary.
marnie is the best mom in stardew valley and she's not even a mom
I'd add Penny in that too
5:55 omg I love Emily’s little dance she’s so cute
Edit: 8:40 you filled the dog bowl w water & I am entering year 2 w o knowing that was a thing?!?!?!
VERY well done video. Just "moved to the valley" a few weeks ago, and between all the farming and flirting it's been a bit tough memorizing all the townsfolk and their drama. Glad someone could put it all together for me. :)
thank you so much for the kind words!!
I watched a lot of your recent Stardew content today. This was such a treat for Monday.
If Seb doesn’t have a window because he’s in the basement, wouldn’t that mean he’s just hotboxing his room all the time?
I like that it did NOT include what happens if you call a tomato a fruit 😂 which I also have not experienced in gameplay yet 🥰
in the caroline section "all of these quotes are clearly guided by concern" is an amazing double entendre :)
Evelyn be out here making cookies not bc she likes them, but bc other ppl like them 😭
begging robin to be my wife the moment i step out of the bus 🙏🙏🙌🙌
Just found your channel. Lmao this is great, the sarcasm hits so good
ANOTHER STARDEW BANGER THANK YEWWWW
About Caroline, doesn't Caroline say at some point that purple isn't Abigail's natural hair color?
The moms Facebook group would be interesting
I liked this video! Good content choice, as a mom myself who loves stardew, now I have a way better idea of who I want to keep for close friends in the game 😄
wdym there's no well maintained relationships in the valley?? ur forgetting about Marlon and Gil
Pierre better watch out. I’m bout to steal Caroline from her. Can’t fight the Rizz 😉
Don’t worry Jodi , thats what mods are for bby girl
you have such a relaxing voice 😊
Hi Salem, another awesome video with the perfect amount of sassyness lol
I thought I was the only one who chose vegetable just because I don't like Demetrius I don't really care about his friendship Demetrius is dismissive and looks down on people
i loved this video so much salem!!! also your voice over was great and i hope you feel better soon
ILY ADA!!!
“Extra sub par” voice over?? Please don’t insult Maybe: Salem like that 😤 it was ~relaxing~
This would explain why she constantly mentions how she doesn't have a single moment to herself.
i love the way you speak, it’s very easy to follow what you’re saying and understand you
The popcorn cutscene was kinda hardbreaking
Your style of humor reminds me of the channel Memoria, do recommend
All kinds of abuse. Coercive control. Neglect. Emotional and psychological abuse.
Man i want to watch all these stardew vids but i dont want any spoilers dang it XD
Get to a worst part of your life is so good
I always consider tomatoes a fruit because it is a seeded vessel of the plant just like apples or bananas. No one considers it a fruit because it's not sweet and almost never eaten on its own. From the definition of vegetables, if we ate the stem or leaves of a tomato plant, then you could call that a vegetable
This vid really making me debate getting the romance robin mod just to save her from demetrius.
I think I could treat Robin better than her husband does, but I respect her choices. Also I'm not into women.
Maybe Caroline is the Wizard's daughter and that's why hates the occult.
I think Evelyn only likes cookies and not loves them, because she bakes them so often. Maybe it's become a part of a routine and the chocolate cake is something new?
the heart event with the popcorn pissed me off so much, i have ptsd and the limited dialogue options are all terrible
YAYY SALEM HAS A NEW BIDEO!!!!!!!!!
i wish Kent didn’t have to apologize to Jodi in his scene. it would be a great opportunity to teach Jodi (and the player) about PTSD triggers.
i think it’s definitely important kent apologizes to her because she clearly doesn’t really understand his ptsd, he lashed out and so apologized, which is good. but there definitely should be a conversation between them (that doesn’t seem to happen, jodi will say kent “seems” nervous often)
Who is your favorite person in the game to marry? Who is your favorite character overall in the game? Just curious. Thank you
Something that initially made me dislike Jodi but lead to me liking her more as I reflected on it was her resentful tone when commenting on your buying Pam and Penny a house; considering how difficult and stressful she finds motherhood it'd make sense for her to really dislike Pam being so careless about how her own choices and selection of her drinking habit over her daughter's welfare as Jodi is someone who is deeply invested in her family above herself.
I love baking pies. But don't eat them
i have wondered if Caroline with the green hair is the green witch that flies around damning everything ... broken marriage ...sealed out of town ... Pieree to move back to town with her ... And also Abby and Emily are the blue hairs ... whats up with that ... half sisters?
Chocolate cake and cookies go together
I will tell all Alex haters to play as a male character and go through his heart events because his acceptance of his sexuality and identity is so much better than if you play as a female
oops! all moms
Dark humor, nice.
this shit was hilarious thanks
I thought Caroline and Abigail were sisters! 😳
I want to use mods to free all the moms with shitty marriages 😢
I don’t think Abigail is the Wizard’s kid, if only because of some throw-away dialogue with Caroline where she complains about Abigail dyeing her hair (which seems pretty hypocritical to me, no way that green hair is natural lmao).
Abigail has dialogue saying her hair turned purple of its own accord one day
More specifically, Abigail mentions that it’s been forever since she’s had to dye it purple.
Which could be stating it’s supernaturally retained the dye color, or just a cheeky joke at the fact that her character model never changes lol
I don’t think the wizard is her real father either but Caroline still had an affair with the wizard.
Maybe Emily is her secret love child she had before she met Pierre.
@@Silentgrace11 Yeah, I do believe it's poking fun on the character not changing hair colors xD
first (sorry i’m just never first i wanted to comment lol can’t wait to watch)
Rly interesting video concept but can't get past the monotone robot voice I'm actually sorry, I feel bad, but that's how it is
Jodi is v hot
Lol get to a worse point in your life then come back 😂
3:15 male living space goals
I was so mad and sad the first time I played and Robin wasn’t someone I could marry 🫠 so I settled for her son. WHO WONT STFU ABOUT ABIGALE 🫠🫠🫠
