In this second part Professor Alfred de Zayas talks about all the mistakes that were made in the 30 year lead-up to the war in Ukraine and how little the international community and the Europeans cared about the Russian Speaking minorities in the eastern regions as well as the failures to hold Ukraine responsible for implementing the Minsk-Agreements. The most striking failure is of course the double-standards that the Europeans are setting when it comes to Kosovo and the way they handled the wars in Yugoslavia. Rules for thee, but not for me. In conjunction with the decline of US hegemony and the utter depravity of the mass-murder in Gaza, the moral bankruptcy of the West is as glaringly obvious as it has never been before or after the Cold War.
First part: • USA and EU Are DESTROY...
Dr. Dr. Alfred de Zayas is a Professor at the Geneva School of Diplomacy, who used to work as a senior lawyer in the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights and later became the first UN Independent Expert on International Order, serving in that capacity from 2012 to 2018.
Born in Cuba, Dr. de Zayas holds a Doctorate in Jurisprudence from Harvard Law School and a PhD in modern history from the German University of Göttingen.
Dr. de Zayas is also a member of the Geneva International Peace Research Institute where he and his team are currently working on a legal case against Ursula v.d.L., Charles Michel, and Josep Borrell.

The problem is that any narrative that favours Russia in any way is dismissed as Russian propaganda by Western media.
Not just any narrative, but any fact that does not fit with the Western narrative is dismissed as “Putin’s talking points” by so-called “disinformation experts” whose real job is to censor inconvenient views and facts from the western media.

The world is completely upside down. Just recently a German court ruled, that the "Verfassungsschutzbehörde" (more or less equivalent to US FBI or RU FSB) does not have to provide any evidence in order to publicly declare an entity (the political party AfD in particular) as endangering the principles of democracy and conduct investigations and surveillance against them.
Those are the same guys who call Orbán an authoritarian, when the Hungarian "Állambiztonság" (again equivalent institution) conducted investigations and surveillance against merely two opposition politicians, who were suspected of espionage, without making any public accusations or declarations.
These people follow the same old logic of "pure democracy", pure in the sense that it is free of what some call amoral opinions and misinformation. You can read about the idea in "The Doctrine of Fascism" by Benito Mussolini.
Yes, these days truth is propaganda, fascism is democracy, war is peace and the list is getting longer every day.

Yep, we collapse three different meanings of "Russian" into the single English word "Russian"... linguistic Russian (of the Russian language), ethnically Russian (a person self identifies as Russian), and civically Russian (being a national of the Russian Federation)... this is where translation problems coming into English cause this misunderstanding. You see a similar thing translating the Hamas charter, resulting in people thinking they want to kill all the J's (avoiding writing the full due to UA-cam filtering).

There is no evidence that the Russian invasion was illegal. In fact, there is at least some evidence that it was preemptive. I never understand why people ignore that evidence. To my knowledge no one has even investigated claimed increase in shelling on the border and build up in NATO troops. It’s the same with self-determination. Referendums, the will of the people in Eastern Ukraine, no one cares about the right to self determination under the UN Charter. In fact, people are most often the forgotten element in all this intrigue. Putin should have gone in much sooner than he did. That would have saved many lives.

We don't call it an invasion, but an intervention. Russia went in to protect the civilian population in an already ongoing brutal civil war, following an illegal coup d'etat.

The Russian invasion was not illegal. War is legal under two cases: 1) Self defence, 2) A country requests military assistance. That is the reason Russia recognised the DPR and LPR as independant. It made it formally possible for military assistance to be requested and granted. Of course, in practice, it is the law of the jungle which applies, as it always has been.

You don't have to make the case that Russia's invasion was legal or not. The USA didn't accept the missiles in Cuba in 1962, why should Russia acceot missiles in Kiev ? That's it. SInce the US refused diplomacy about this problem they created (Nato troops on Russia's border), Russia had no other choice than to start this war.

The EU and NATO keep shouting like the events of Crimea in 2014 were the worst affront to "the principle of territorial integrity" in Europe since Hitler butchered Czechoslovakia in 1938-39 - but just compare with how the EU is walking on eggshells around the Turkish presence on northern Cyprus. Turkey has been semi-occupying the area (backing it with their own troops) for half a century, and Cyprus is an EU member state for Christ's sake! - but the EU are very careful not to cause any major stir about it. The reason, of course, is that Turkey is a key member of NATO.
These days, the EU doesn't seem to have much guiding lines to its foreign policy and diplomacy except this one: don't step in the way of Uncle Sam, our Lord Protector. And Ukraine has made this more painfully obvious than ever before.

@@YG-qn3xr Yes, sure. Kosovo is an anomaly if people are claiming (as the EU always does) that new states or border changes can only happen by strictly adhering to the protocol rules of the UN, and without war of aggression.
Northern Ireland is a kind of exception too - for thirty years Britain (an EU member for most of that time) effectively treated Ni as an occupied province. Lots of cops and soldiers, military rules etc. The EU was carefully silent about it.

I know many people who see NATO as a club of defence for democratic countries are feeling quite frustrated about Turkey and its wayward style, but in military terms Turkey is invaluable to NATO and especially to the US, and there is no way the US would ever tell Ankara: "Listen kid, leave my friends /within the EU/ alone and don't quarrel with them, or you'll get spanked in the principal's office!" 😀

According to Matt Ehret and Cynthia Chung of Canadian Patriot Press, NATO was started by the same cast of characters who were part of Hitler’s Third Reich. They do excellent research based on original documents and have written several books as well as creating documentaries in attempt to set the record straight. It is my sincere desire, that others will explore their work and consider the historic significance of this perspective. The actions of NATO certainly does not refute what they are saying and could make sense of what seems incongruent with a defensive alliance.
Good point. Although the USA eventually joined WW2 against Germany, the net effect of WW2 was to leave the US as the undisputed largest economic power in the World. What it has now achieved with NATO is the subservience, and relinquishment of sovereignty, of every Western nation. It remains only for it to capture Russia for it to achieve the world domination that Germany came so close to in WW2.

You should have Col Jaques Baud, Swiss army on here to talk about his work during the Maidan, Crimean and Donbass wars. He was on a TOD to NATO, his teams work during the 2014-2017 Donbass war was to identify Russian direct military support to the Donbass Republic over that time. He says that the Crimean break away from Ukraine was due to the Ukrainian local forces (20k out of 22k soldiers) defected to the side of the "Patriots? (or rebels?)", they threw away their unit patches hence the "Little Green men", and not the Russian troops that were based there. Like the Soviet days, troops were drawn from local peoples, so the majority dropped their Ukrainian insignia's and joined their families! Similar to the Donbass, there were no Russian troops there, he and his team found that whole Regiments and Brigades defected taking all their weapons and stores with them. Apart from "safari" Russian locals popping across the border to help out family members (normally over a weekend etc), they found no evidence that there was a full on logistical support from Russia to the Donbass Republics. This changed later when the NATO trained Ukrainian troops put their full weight of the state onto the Donbass that President Putin created Wagner to support them.
I forgot to say, the reason why everything turned to custard in Crimea, was Ukrainian 'militia' were doing a tour of the south and east, fighting against the Russian speaking Ukrainians. These groups had just been in Odessa and it seemed they wanted to do the same thing in Crimea, the ethnic Russian Ukrainians (and troops so it turns out) were not going to let that happen ... and they didn't.

Jaruzelski (for those who don’t know, he was a general and Polands last socialist leader) even said, after his visit to NY and a talk with Rockefeller, that „there are powerful forces wanting to destroy our country”. This is why he declared martial law. Todays extreme right wing compradore elite destroyed our industrial base, so we would have to rebuild everything from scratch, sold our precious resources like copper (telling the public that copper HAS NO FUTURE) to Canada and as always, they sold it for 0,5% of its actual worth, so they clearly did so ONLY to fill their pockets. They also sold our petroleum to Saudis. Saudi Aramco was actually given our Gdansk refinery in exchange for that tragic Bidens visit to Saudi Prince. Our clean WATER SUPPLIES belong to.. Isntreal.

There’s less people in Poland than it actually was in 1989, which in no way shape or form resembles „progress”. Then add to it that within the official number of „Poles” they include MILLIONS of Ukrainians who have been coming to Poland after 2014 coup. Then we have also lots of Lithuanians, lots of Belarusian dissidents working for C1A, we have Slovaks, Latvians etc. Yet still our numbers haven’t improved which tells us how many Poles just simply left (or died). This is how we were colonized, our industry was always supposed to be looted and destroyed since our job was to be cheap labor force dependent in every single way on the United States. Poland exists only on the map. S0r0S foundations deeply divided our nation making it impossible to get together and change anything in our country. Now all the western corporations are moving out of Poland to countries with even cheaper labor and cheaper natural resources. Thousands of people were laid off and over 70% of Poles barely make ends meet. We were promised so much, we’ve been told over and over that it was temporary and that we were going to „catch up to the west”.. the only thing we seem to catch up on is DEBT. Compradores put us in so much debt while giving us, the people, less than nothing. Country didn’t benefit from it either. We’ve been a tool to extract worlds wealth and to fight Americans imperial wars.
I wish Jaruzelski had stayed this strong throughout his governance. At the same time he knew that USSR’s elites have already decided to betray their citizens and join in with the west. He knew that Poland wouldn’t be able to protect itself on their own. Jugosławia is a perfect example of what could’ve happened to us.
For the EU and NATO this is very much about defending a self-proclaimed moral prerogative that the EU (which has assembled practically the same member list as NATO in Europe, esp. if we count in states that are closely associated with one bloc and full members of the other) is the sacred arbiter siting on the rule-books of International Law, Human Rights and Democracy - and that these values are implicitly and justly defended with American weapons if needed. This is the perspective that people like Bildt and Stoltenberg are defending - and it is allowed to hide the many deeply problematic aspects of American, British and EU activities ("projection of power" for the US) around the world. And in eastern Europe too, specifically.
Albanians in Kosovo did not have right for 'self determination', as they were minority in Jugoslavia. If that would be the case, any group, anywhere in the world could form their country just like that. Many principles were broken in Jugoslavia.

It's not that easy dude... Humans believe in things that separates them! Imagine being in a country that didn't even had a native language.... All of the sudden you want to have a "root system" that defines you. Because a country is your home, your people, your family.... You want a native language and you want to have YOUR people around... Because things are toooo strange and unfamiliar to you. But you also have a population that doesn't belong and in fact had some aggressive past with you (investigate "Holodomor", which was what Stalin/Russia did to Ukraine). Soooo this is complicated.... Ukrainians wanted to wipe out Russians from their country... And yeah, that's practically INSANE and mostly IMPOSSIBLE.

Generally, the public relies on headlines and finely crafted sound bytes. The public asks no questions beyond that. Inconsistencies and contradictions are explained away on TV talk show paneled by experts.
Agree, also the last 30-40 years have seen a huge advance in the role of think-tank people (sponsored pundits) in public debate. Not just in the US but also in Europe. Public debate on politics, policy-making and long-term trends used to have a high presence of independent academics, historians and activists who, if they were politically engaged, at least made their allegiances clear. But much of this has been taken over by the political think-tanks and their people, who often pose as academic researchers but really are political PR makers. In toady's world, the mid-level manager of a think-tank has both better pay and mich better access to the news media than most senior faculty professors: this would have been unthinkable forty years ago (at least in Europe, where the debate here took place).
@@louise_rose Largely due to the 1999 media consolidation act that consolidated not only focused on TV media but newspapers and print journalism giving them a unified voice of government or corporate control...
@@Larkinchance Yes, I can figure the impact that would have had in the USA. I'm from Scandinavia, but here in Europe too there's been a growing "concentration of ownership" of media outlets on a limited number of hands (media houses/empires) and a thinnng out of the free spaces in the old-school media where public debate traditionally took place. Media owners and publishers, TV managers etc have become more and more controlling about who gets to talk on their pages, about the outcome of debates and so on.
Long, untrammeled debates that could go on for several weeks with high-calibre input from a dozen people or more, freelance writers and academics, in the same morning paper, those simply aren't happening anymore - that kind of thing was still frequent when I grew up in the 80s and 90s, and it had real influence, because it went further and deeper than what politicians and think-tanks could afford to say. I think online debate has only half managed to replace that, the loss in quality debate is real and palpable.

The consolidation of media destroyed all of that.
The incentive for owners was to cut costs and expand profits. The price was subservience to government less they threaten their monopoly share. Who is running the place, government or corporate.. First thing first- during Maidan at West Ukraine paramilitaries were assaulting police stations and apprehending weapon from weapon rooms. Also they stated that the West Ukraine will cecede if Yanukovich will not sign agreement with EU.
This needs a clarification regarding those "unmarked Russian troops" Pascal refered to. Those were not members of the contingent manning the Sevastopol naval base. They were members of the Ukranian army that was at the time organized regionally (i.e. troops from Crimea were stationed in Crimea) that removed their Ukranian insignia and proceeded to secure the secession of Crimea from Ukraine.
Ask Col. Jacques Baud, a fellow Swiss, ex-Strategic Intelligence, author of many books published by Editions Max Milo, to explain the so-called "little Green Men" in Crimea, Pascal. 9:56

Only minor issue is that analysts always talk about "US mistakes." (5:00 minutes in)
If you have a geographical advantage, you don't make "mistakes" but use old, proven Roman strategies.
This is divide and rule.
One takes over a sphere of influence one slow step at a time. When there is a response, blame the side being encroached upon, and use any rhetoric from the other side as excuse for further encroachment.

Great interview. It is becoming clear that people do drink their cool-aid and do believe their own lies. It's a house of cards where politicians are only concerned about their own game.
The dissolution of the Soviet Union has propelled the US to become the unipolar world power able to control every corner of the world. Architects of US foreign policy then decided they can have unlimited access to the vast resources of the former Soviet territories of Eurasia n Ukraine is the most important piece of their Eurasian chessboard.

I had a similar story declared to me by a Ukrainian guy in a discussion here on UA-cam last year: he explained that Ukraine had taken more soldiers fallen for the cause of the allies than the UK;, the US and France together against Hitler and Mussolini. I could easily figure out that he wasn't talking about Ukrainians in the Red Army, so I prompted him a bit and sure, he was convinced that there had existed a big Ukrainian People's Army who had fought both Hitler and Stalin and had been independently linked to the western allies.
That's bollocks, I said: the ONLY regular army of any importance that fought against Hitler within the pre-1939 borders of the Soviet Union was the Red Army. If you were against Hitler on Soviet soil (including Ukraine), then you supported the Red Army because there was nobody else! (the revolt of the "Vlasov army" occurred only in 1944, outside of Soviet territory). - At first I thought the guy was just pulling lies, but then it struck me that he may have been taught this version of events at school in Ukraine.
