On September 5, the Ukrainian government and the Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) came to a ceasefire agreement after talks were held in Minsk, Belarus. But before the ceasefire went into effect that evening, both sides launched attacks on each other. The DNR assaulted Ukrainian positions in the city of Mariupol, while the Ukrainians attacked DNR checkpoints on the road leading from Mariupol to Donetsk.
VICE News headed north of Donetsk to the town of Yasynuvata to check on reports that the town had come under fresh artillery fire that left residents living in their basements and without basic amenities.
As the ceasefire held the next day, civilians in the village of Telmenovo were picking through the ruins of their homes, which were hit by shelling in the hours before the ceasefire began. We also traveled to Novoazovsk to speak with a local DNR commander who had little faith the ceasefire would hold for long.

@@cardenas8995 actually many of them were produced till late sixties and even seventies and after that most of them were preserved in special warehouses in lubricant. It was stored there until early 90's, when most of them were sold, because nobody had money in former USSR countries. But some of them managed to stay safe in those warehouses till those days. So it is just like brand new. And you can easily find ammunition for it, because it uses stock 9mm parabellum bullets, which are popular today too.

actually in this context it refers to shrapnel, not bullets. The particular anti aircraft technology that is suspected to be the cause of this is designed to explode close to the aircraft, shredding it with shrapnel, more damage that way.

How do you figure that? It's like me trying to describe America and picking only some criminal and gopnik types. Different people have joined the Rebellion for totally different reasons. And the Rebellion itself is just the tip of the iceberg. Like yesterday I'm watching a perfectly neutral travel blog about my beloved Kharkov and they're showing the former Dzerzhinsky Square and there it is- Petlyura's red and black flag! So they destroyed the statue of Lenin because it was traumatizing them but they don't give a rat's ass that that frigging flag is traumatizing us. End of story.

Since about the time of the Russian humanitarian aid convoi the rebels have been pushing back Ukrainian troops on most fronts. There were also up to three encirclements where a lot of Ukrainain troops and volunteer battalions were entrapped. Unfortunately this reminds me of Bosnia, a very serious and bloody fight that the locals don't understand why. Seeing civilians living in basements is hard - and the kids and the old effect me even more.. When all is said and done - will it change the average Ukrainian's lot in life? In Bosnia = not really.

I'd say the Ukrainians are the better. The DPR commander in the video said it himself that they won't stop until they destroy the root of Ukraine's "fascism" telling me that they want the war to continue. The commander then says that the Ukrainians are the only ones who propose cease-fires telling me that the Ukrainians are the only ones wanting the war to stop. I can't believe that those innocent civilians are blaming Poroshenko for their current conditions when it is the people they're supporting, the DPR and Russia, who actually want the war to continue.

Too much blood has been shed for a reunion to be the best solution for the citizens for Eastern Ukraine.

Do the people of the DNR even count as Ukrainians anymore seeing that they want to separate and eventually join Russia? I know shelling civvies is wrong, but how can you complain if you are with the other side. They are enemies of the rest of Ukraine but they still feel as if they should be treated as a Ukrainian. They should be treated as Russians seeing that is what they want to be. This is eye opening footage of the DNR, that older commander seemed very experienced and the DNR military seems 100% confident. That is a very bad sign for the Ukrainian army who seem very hesitant and distrustful of their command. Central Intelligence Agency I wonder if Ukraine and Russia would accept Dontesk as an independent self governed region within Ukraine? Russia and Ukraine could go back to playing peaceful politics and both sides could save face. Is anyone confident that the Ukrainian central government can stop a volunteer army funded and supported by Russia? Even if the volunteer army is routed (which may be unlikely), if Russia committed to invade and hold Eastern Ukraine, could even the EU and Ukraine together stop them? Wars can be won with hearts and minds, Vietnam was, what is the Ukrainian government doing to win back the separatists? Shelling civilian areas seems likely to swell the DNR ranks with berserkers.

Highly doubtful because while I have seen how some of these Ukrainian Troops switched sides at the beginning and/or are in low spirits due to not being given the proper amounts of equipment and clear orders, there are more that are wanting to fight for their country. So I would guarantee that not only was the attack point reconned prior to the attack, there were probably infantry that also did reconnaissance during the fight and would have known that there were only 6 guys and thrown everything at them.
