I honestly like to think Arizona turning blue was partly a consequence of how John McCain was treated by Trump. I don't know if that's the case, but the idea that his fresh mouth cost him for once is fun to entertain.

Oh yeah, we can keep our doctor and our healthcare. Lies, we were being Federalized with a socialist system and socialized medicine. It would have been much worse by now and extremely expensive and if you need treatment or a medical procedure, wait in line. There would be such a shortage of doctors and health care would be only for the elite rulers of this country. Again you would have to wait in line. The American system has saved many lives from other countries like Canada who needed an immediate operation, but had to wait in line. Who knows, we may even cure cancer..

We would not be able to see our doctor that we wanted and not have the healthcare system to choose from. It would be one gigantic takeover by the government of all healthcare. I am so glad I can see the doctor I have been seeing for years, but the lie that Obama said we could see our doctor really worried me. There would be no private healthcare for me to choose from. Wait in line because more and more doctors were planning an early retirement and fewer people studying to be a doctor resulting in a shortage of doctors. Socialism always produces shortages of everything. Just look at these socialist countries like Venezuela, once a well to do high quality of life with freedom from government. All Communist countries are socialists and the people do suffer from the system itself, not to mention the brutal dictators who rule over them. That is not the America I grew up in, but was steamrolling in that direction. It was more gradual at first, but became so much faster it would not have taken long for Hillary Clinton to be America's first dictator. She of course would really be a willing puppet of the New World Order that I have been watching since the 1960s. That has all changed with Trump. We will have our healthcare plan we want and see the doctor of our choice. Less rules and regulations to live by making it less difficult for businesses to provide services and products we can now take for granted. We would just be waiting in line for food, doctors, not the one we choose, but the one assigned to us by the state. Obama told a big lie, when he said we could keep our doctor and our healthcare.

Many people in the comment section keep praising John McCain as a hero and forgot that Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins also against the bill.
The reason they don't get praise seems to be that they were expected to vote against it. Whereas McCain just flew in (reference intended ) at the last minute and made the decisive vote. Still, credit to them.

I remember hearing somewhere that John McCain interrupted chemotherapy treatment to fly in and vote ensuring that millions of Americans keep receiving well deserved medical care.
Um do you not realize that if no other republican had voted no then it would have been a split vote and Pence would break the tie??? He saved a couple hundred thousand lives per year with that thumbs down. No cap. If he hadn’t been there Obama care would be gone.

I was very impressed with his vote on healthcare. But people are now creating a myth about the man. He always worked for the party, look at his voting record. One of the most consistent senators in always voting with the Republican party. Healthcare was a huge exception.
McCain might have lost the election, but gained something more. A lasting positive legacy.

Watching him vote no and saving Obamacare broke my heart. He could have voted yes to repeal - he could been bitter while being at death's door, but he didn't. He did what was right even at such a vulnerable time in his life. Thank you John McCain and may you rest in peace.
What I remember was the next trip out the the President took. President mocks Senator McCain for having been a POW, mocks him for actually voting what he thought was the right thing instead of playing the D.C. game. Then the crowd, 10's of thousands of people cheered him for it. That is the part that gets me, it isn't the President himself or the things he says, it is the millions of people who cheer him on while he is literally being deplorable. I understand people will like his policies, I understand people who voted to get a more conservative supreme court. I don't understand grown adults cheering a draft dodger who is openly mocking a veteran on stage as the President. For a bunch of people who didn't like being labelled as deplorable, quite a few of them sure have gone out of their way to actually fit that bill.

@@843maddendude It shouldn't cost that much if you're only making $1500 per month. It still is more expensive because I was paying $104 before the ACA, then it shot up to nearly $300. I've been without insurance for a year and saved myself $3000.

I would be dead right now if it weren’t for the ACA a.k.a. Obama care. I was on dialysis in 2017 at age 28 and had to stay on it many months until my kidneys recovered enough that I no longer needed it but I also had other health issues as well that would not have been able to be managed without health insurance because I can’t get it through my work and with the COVID-19 pandemic I surely would’ve lost what little health insurance I had if any and be left to die with no insurance if it were not for President Obama passing the ACA and Senator McCain voting against repeal.
Please dont forget also the two republican women who voted against the repeal : Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski

Up until Trump’s election I identified as a republican, and I find it absolutely ridiculous that voting to repeal this law was even considered by a single republican in the senate. Repealing this law without a plan for replacement was absolutely ludicrous. Senator McCain and his devotion to this nation are sorely missed.

As a Canadian watching this as it unfolded that night, when he walked up and signaled the thumbs down, Tommy Douglas from his grave, gave Sen. John McCain a thumbs up, for standing up for the people. Rest in Power

Hall of fame moment for sure. Most others in the party are just boot lickers. Whether it's for McConnell or Trump. McCain maybe have been a republican but he was his own man.

John McCain is the reason why my Mom has a fighting chance against stage iv cancer. He's the reason why we were able to afford her surgery at one of the best hospitals in the country. He's the reason why she can get the most targeted therapies and infusions. He's the reason why she's lived long enough to see her grandchildren's birthdays over and again. May God reward him in eternity like no one else.

That was one of his best moments. I didn’t agree with his politics…but he was a good man and he loved this country. You could always count on him to do what he felt was right.

I'm sure many other republicans who wished to vote "no" succumbed to Mconnell and the party pressure, and voted yes. John's vote was contrary to what senators usually do, they follow orders of the party rather than their own choice. That's why Mconnell said that.

John McCain knew how to get young people to vote for the Republican party. He was kind, funny, interesting, a maverick, humble, a war hero, and honest. THAT'S how you appeal to young people. This is why the Republican party has completely lost the younger generation when it was the younger generation who supported Republicans during the Reagan area.

McCain's "no" vote didn't make up for his years as a war hawk. But it put a big dent in them. Respect.
