  • One aspect of the golf swing I have never understood was the release and I've been doing it wrong this whole time. The release is one of the most important parts of the golf swing, yet nobody talks about it. In this lesson I learn how the release is similar to a two hand bounce pass in basketball.

    Do the pros consciously think about firing their wrists at impact or does the hip rotation square the club face?
    I had a lesson from a korn ferry pro and he said no pro try’s to time or even think about snapping their wrists, their club face closes naturally with hip rotation.
    Thoughts?

      @@ErndogGolf thanks my man. I watched a video from Grant Horvat who’s a pretty dang good UA-cam golfer. He was doing a video on changing his swing because he said he felt he was too handsy with his swing (flicking the wrists) and not progressing.
      He is changing his swing to work on hip rotation to progress to the next level. Only reason I’m telling you this is I don’t want to see you chasing a high handicap swing when you’re trying to progress to scratch golf.

    Zach is an amazing coach/ instructor. As someone who started about the same time as you and has had 2 teachers and about 12 lessons, I learned more in 2 videos and it has completely jumped me up a level. He makes some of these concepts that newer golfers are always hearing and striving for crystal clear by the way he breaks them down to the basics. The in to out swing has been such a struggle, and the concept he shows of keeping your turn facing backward while you move your hips latterly then dropping into your turn was priceless. It was in another video of yours and was like a light bulb going off. Combined with the hand movement . Thanks for the videos !

    Hi Erndog, come across your channel while trying to create the best swing and consistent results and i have to say Zach instruction technique i.e hands on where needed, explanation of the process etc is the best i have seen and then to add you understanding and application of what’s required absolutely refreshing. So i went out to the net i have and tried some instruction, put it in sections then all together and felt this swing and connection was for me, obviously you don’t get the direction of the ball in the net, i.e spin etc, so immediately went to my course and the driving and short game area and i have to say my swing and connection was transformed (don’t get me wrong occasionally pulled or pushed) but when i say these were 10 foot From the target is no exaggeration, thank you to you and Zach for the insight, both inspiring. Keep the trail elbow down and in front of the body, and the release is all about straightening the trail arm without forearm rotation. It's the body rotation that helps square the club face through impact.

      Thanks brother! Handicap is currently at a 9.0, when I started I was an 8.3 but with a swing that wasn’t going to allow me to get any lower. Thinking about getting a camera with higher recording fps because my swing is so fast when I look back on my iphone it's just too blurry even with a iphone 14 x or whatever the thing is called. Hi by chance ive just watched one of your very recent videos on some major swing changes you were making & i really identified with the same issues. The biggest fault i have in my swing is getting a truely repeating swing path motion from in to out. I see that you had exactly the same issue & have managed to solve it. Is there a specific move or action you are now doing in your head to make this happen from the top of your backswing & down?..is it like a rear shoulder move downward in your transition & trail arm matching up in line with your clubshaft or a specific manor that you are realising your trail hand towards the outward path?.
    Really appreciate this content & your teacher seems incredibly spot on for you.
    Would love to see more of both you & he together in the actual vision frame of your videos as a suggestion.

That advice just solved my outside & over swing path 'forever' problem. I've never heard that before but it is priceless knowledge that is just so true. Thank you both so much that I have discovered this after stuffing around & searching for some tangible reason as to why I faded the ball so much whenever I tried swinging faster & having to forcibly rotate my hands to stop it happening.

    Q for Zach- you were happy with 7 iron launch angle at 28° . Club loft was probably around 30°. Don't tour players try to take significant loft off a club so maybe hit a 30° 7 iron at about 20-22°? More distance and boring flight?

    • @zachberhow.instruction
      @zachberhow.instruction Рік тому +2

      Good luck holding a green if you don’t have 120 mph of club head speed with your driver. I see delofting doing more harm than good for weekend golfers. Loft creates more spin which Ernie needs. Also loft allows someone to manage the face better.
      Each person has a different mistake and needs to be fixed to that person. This fantasy of one size fits all tour player just isn’t realistic for everyday human beings.

    • @zachberhow.instruction

    I'm confused. I always hear that you want to deloft the ball and hit it lower. But here hitting it lower was a problem? I guess there's a happy medium?
    Coach Zach seems often and Ernie seems really teachable.

    • @ErndogGolf
      @ErndogGolf  Рік тому +2

      Stopping power is super important in your approach game. If you lower your ball flight, you better be able to produce the right amount of spin to hold a green. You probably hear a lot of pros doing this with wedges. You don’t want your wedges to balloon up and get moved by the wind, so you knock them down and rely on spin to hold the green. You said it perfectly, there’s a happy medium. You can see from some of the numbers (this was actually an 8 iron, Zach thought it was a 7 from the low trajectory) that I’m carrying around 140 but the ball is rolling out an extra 10 yards! That’s a nightmare to control. You want the ball to land and stop as quickly as possible. You do this with loft and spin, and I had neither!

  • @77bovi

    Good lesson but let's please quote Ben Hogan accurately. Hogan did not say bounce pass in 5 lessons. And the target was never on the ground.
    Page 98-99 illustration throwing the basketball to a hip height spot on a wall. The caption is
    "As in the old two-handed basketball pass, the left arm and hand lead the right arm and hand. Be sure you hit through with the left as hard as with the right"
    Page 100 he goes into more detail about this pass, but again he specifies "The center of the target is about the same height from the ground as the player's belt buckle. ...flings the ball at the target "
    Whether or not the bounce pass is a great piece of advice is besides the point. Do not attribute it to Hogan or 5 lessons.
