As a sub rogue I'm frankly shocked you didn't mention us. Nobody understands this conundrum better than a sub rogue who has to make a very clear choice to either do full aoe or do MUCH lower overall while doing pure funnel into 1 target. If you're going to play sub you better do keys with people who understand what you're doing for them. I just did a 28 EB today (but sadly failed) and after clearing all the caster mobs before 3rd boss I had done over 40% of the group's damage to the pyromancers. I literally deleted them from existence with funnel.
I played sub season 2 sl and i remember watching Andybrew and people asked him why they didnt play fury over a sub rogue cus like surely a warr would do more overall, and i remember him explaining the first boss in halls of attonement and why they pulled adds on top of the first boss to give the rogue funnel, it wasnt just to kill stuff with the boss it was also to make the rogue do way more st dmg to the boss than a fury warr ever would and the smallies could die whenver it didnt matter when, what mattered was when the boss died cus you couldnt move on before the boss was dead. So it was an overall much bigger speed gain for the rogue to funnel than anyone just padding on the adds while fighting the boss.
finally a video I can link to explain to people who simply don't get it. Prio damage is debatably equal if not more important than overall damage. If everything else in the pack dies and the prio mob has 50% health left all of that aoe damage was PAD
I love healing everbloom when my teammates even cleave on the abomination pulls. It's even better when the abom is almost dead and every dps swaps off of it, so that it gets another cast off.
I think dev evoker is a lot better then people assume. Really solid single target and aoe dmg without having to sacrifice either to achieve it. Still has a lot of the support that Aug does as well. I love dev evoker people just hate inviting me :)
had my first dev evoker in a heroic raid. that was some crazy damage. first time seeing an evoker top the meters and it was a boost raid full of decent players
Very interesting information, right as i started wondering why my fire mage doesnt top the meters even though i put all of effort in rotation, gear simming and actual dungeon runs. Guess it all makes sense now, i mean why and how is fire mage considered very good meta-wise, cause i really couldnt see it in the damage meters
Probs worth mentioning but fury warr is extremely good at prio damage as well, similar to fire, ST rotation turns into AOE. I think Fury/fire/x is actually a pretty decent comp considering how much ST/prio damage the comp brings. Also have to consider the player and if they actually know what to target lol.
I think this is more of a mentality for organized groups. You try to optimise everything to get a 1% chance to time a +30 key. In pugs, it is just different. People prioritise stability over the possiblity to time a higher key. And each extra mob in the pull adds to the possible for a wipe which will end up costing more than the few extra seconds to clear the packs. I cannot call this mentality to be entirely incorrect, except maybe when there are enough factors to the opposite of “less mob = less chance to wipe” i.e. bolstering abominationss/risen drakes that powers up as mobs die.
thank god all the warriors voted season 2 tier set because overall is all that matters to them would be a shame to have prio dmg with big bloodthrists in packs where u want it or ST just full st dps
Those lil slimes close to the dragons like tettles mentioned, bats from brh, the lil birds of AD, maybe dreadpetals? Maybe the lil mobs that spit on your face in WM, the lil mobs in TOTT after 3rd boss and very close to the 4th boss. These are the only ones i can remember on top of my head
Im just a sub rogue with neither thistle tea nor vigor in mythic spec who is constantly scared of being yelled at at low mob count pulls because both my st and aoe rotations are eclipsed by 2 other dps' and often even tank's aoe in these 😢
I watched this video today and i dont know if my perspective is skewed or if i actually need to improve a lot. Im coming at this from the perspective that the people that i watch play the game are obviously exceptional players who only post the vods of exceptional runs and maybe expecting those kind of results (in terms of DPS) is not the correct mindset. but im unsure. I am 186 iLvl. As ignite I frequently have much lower damage than other DPS in my dungeons (24s or so) that i am currently doing. im almost always 3rd. I am doing prio damage and the shit typically dies evenly but i feel bad and ive been blamed multiple times for keys dying when people look at my damage. So my question is. is it just going to be normal that im the lowest beneath like boomie ret havoc lock? or should i be up there in damage with them consistently? i will genuinely have less than 200k overall in most cases where the other party members can have upwards of 300 or slightly lower? lower than 200k feel crazy when im 186 and i can pull way more on frost. i just hate frost lol.
I would say it's just irrelevant until you start failing keys due to the timer. Most of the time keys are bricked due to a failed pull. You could be bottom on the meter and just sandbag your CDs for all the difficult parts of the dungeon and your likely going to win a 24. The way your tank pulls around your CDs is huge deal as well. Filtering out all the junk mobs on details like he suggests is actually such a good idea.
Sub rogue excels in funnel, people not inviting you are just bad tbh. The only class that funnels harder than sub is enh shaman, but people just want to see overall and don't actually care that you're doing over 50 percent of the damage to prio mobs.
you need both. simple as that. there are many prio targets this season, but with only prio dmg you wont time a key. thats why havoc, boomkin and ret are popular. their aoe dmg is through the roof. for prio dmg you have fire mage and to a certain extend outlaw rogue. the only class that effectively funnels this season is shaman. the rest of the dps specs barely funnel...maybe frost mage.
Tbf, bcause I dont run +20s and up I just use my single target raid boomkin talents... I rather thunnel my starsurges into the dangerous mobs than petting my overall dmg...
You shouldn't be allowed to do M+ unless you watch this video. As someone who plays Fire Mage, thank you for this. The amount of shit I take because of overall even tho we timed the key, is unbelievable.
dev is fine, people just hate on it because they enjoy fulfilling their delusion that aug is inherently better. when dev evokers (the 10 people playing it atm) can consistently outdps havoc, outlaw, ret, demo, fire mage... that's when you know its a community issue. disintegrate+scintillation+eternity span is your funnel
@@liamdavies2823 i had the pleasure to play with the world rank 1 devoker...and it wasnt even a competition. he completely destroyed me (havoc) dpswise.
Everbloom exposes people for having very bad priorities very quickly. I pretty much only pug, and I'd say EB 25 is about where incorrectly prioritizing or otherwise timing your damage improperly will fail the key. Everybody knows that you have to wait to blow your cooldowns on Witherbark, but very little restraint is exercised outside of that by most people. When tanks pull 12 dreadpetals onto Witherbark, and they are a tank that can clear the debuff frequently and/or other party members can help clear, a frightening amount of dps players will send all of their cooldowns immediately instead of saving it for the boss's damage amp. Doing some aoe is fine, they do pose a non insignificant threat to the tank once you run out of root clears, but the cooldowns part just blows my mind. Similar situation with Yalnu, but it's less of a "stop using aoe" problem and more of a "stop doing zero damage to the tree" problem. People know to focus the tree by this point, but they cannot physically contain themselves from blowing their cooldowns in a way that a more vulnerable Yalnu gets all the damage but the tree gets none. I play havoc, so I typically ask for people to lust the tree add and save every single Eye Beam for it, and every single meta. I don't spend a lot of time sitting on Eye Beam with this method, except for the window of time before pull and the first tree spawning. There's some classes that may end up having their cooldowns ready before the next add spawns, and end up in this perpetual loop of using their 15 second window of burst damage on Yalnu, right before the tree spawns. Yalnu is a long fight, and any damage done to him while amped is not necessarily damage gone to waste, but at a certain point the deciding factor of whether or not you wipe is killing the tree fast enough. Because of Havoc's damage profile, I usually end up as 3rd in dps for Yalnu overall, but sometimes end up doing twice as much damage to the tree alone than the other dps. Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes it's a bad thing. Sometimes I obliterate the tree and the other 2 dps can obliterate Yalnu in return, sometimes my damage alone isn't enough and we wipe because the tree is still casting after Genesis. I've been flamed for doing mediocre damage to Yalnu, and I've been thanked for melting the tree. It's a weird phenomenon.
I’ve had this same discussion with a mage I run with. He insists on blowing lust and cds on Yalnu right as we enter and we typically do fine for the first couple of tree adds but sometimes we fall over. It’s a weird thing were I tell him to save cd for the add but they insist to do big damage to Yalnu and no cds on add. It’s a thin line because in most dps players minds topping the charts is #1 priority 😅.
Top mage, heartjacks pops combust on pull on the first boss in EB. It also depends because like he said some classes gets more single target dmg by having more mobs around the prio target,
I don't understand why boomie is so strong in M+ at the moment. Yes, it does a ton of consistent AOE dmg and has more than decent ST. But It has close to 0 funnel dmg and has one of the worst damage profile. The only situations where Boomie's ability to spread cleave is really good is on EB second boss (council fights basically) an other very niche situations. I just feel like Shadow priest shows more potential as It's godlike in funnel and priority. And mistweaver is kinda stronger than disco as well in most situations.
Boomy is strong because they simply have the best AOE profile in the game for large target count high health mobs. Nobody does it better than them. But really the answer is mark of the wild, and If you're not bringing a resto then you're bringing a boomy. And disc is better than mw just due to utility, in terms of healing? Mw is the current best but that matters so much less the higher you go. Who cares if you can heal the most when everyone is getting one shot
Makes sense but you have classes that can't get oneshot so why even run a boomie. Rogues and mages can't die at all. wouldn't it make more sense to just run mistweaver + rogue mage with a vengence DH then have an aug or even another mage like JPC's team at some point@@rivas623
It might not matter on high keys (with co-ordination) but the dread petals do drop an annoying debuff on the tank, and for some tanks, the petals dying fast is rather nice.
Turns out every season there's a couple overtuned classes that can do both aoe and prio damage without trading one for the other, so it's a nice question to ask that is rendered pointless by blizzard philosophy.
I always try to play "priority damage". I dont have shame hold my main cds for more 20-30 secs in a easy pack if those cds would be good in a situation that demands it after the easy pack.
This is so insignificant and especially so if the person behind the keyboard is subpar in intellect. UA-camrs keep parroting how classes are the front of the success of the key, but countless times the tool always becomes disfunctional if used by someone with a bad hand.
@@SargeantBlue havoc demon hunters who are predominantly played by people for the sole purpose of it being low in variance and easy, comes to the end point of it being stupid to invite such classes, due to the probability of inviting people with low inhibition, instead of high skill. my take might seem braindead, but i prefer to invite good people that are linked to bad classes. have you seen for example the statistics about how resto shamans are twice more likely to time a 25 pug than a disc priest? i bet you cannot even understand what is coming through from my keyboard. but yeah, call me braindead becasue thats how you traverse reality in a manner that you understand.
Again, welcome to how the game works, there is literally no way to tell if somebody will be good or not when pugging, but that is entirely irrelevant on what classes actually do. Pugging comes down to inviting the best chance of success.@@xadionwc3
Obviously a less meta spec will be doing beta at a lower key level than a meta spec, becaue a meta spec with a good player on it will be doing higher level keys@@xadionwc3
I want to see a key done using this strategy and then have the same group run the same key and everyone just go full AoE and see the actual time difference. Like a 30 fall with two DPS going full ST on drakes and then having one DH or Fire Mage or whatever passively cleave them down. I want to see the actual time saved. Nevermind that nobody ever wipes to the drakes so the point is moot anyway - I want numbers for time saved. My guess is that the time saved is negligible and that there a ton of factors in key timing and, in the drake/blight chunk situation in particular, this is not going to be a deciding factor. I'm fine with optimization but to say "you're trolling if you go AoE on that pull" is ridiculous. It truly is not important. I can't tell if the people in this whole "prio damage is the new meta" camp are simply coping with not topping the meters or if they've just run out of things to optimize as they approach the keys that aren't numerically possible and so they decided to just choose this and make it an issue. So, in short, priority damage targets have ALWAYS been a thing in WoW and in almost every instance it isn't necessary because it can be powered through. Keep it simple, stupid.
Some specs actually funnel, so bombing the adds that do nothing certainly negatively affects those classes damage. Also this is just a braindead opinion lol. People should have to post their M+ rating as a footer in their comments
@@quintit Oh I understand the concept of priority targets and funnel classes just fine. Just name me a single encounter where it's ever the deciding factor in a key. One. All you fanboys heard dorki say it once and now you're acting like it's the word of God.

If a greedy dps burns the adds instantly then I can't reset, and I'm stuck without veins for a looong time due to how frost cdr worked. Pleeeeenty of examples like that. If you don't know, frost relied exclusively on 100% IV uptime, and not being able to reset because of this basically stunted me for 30-60 sec. On any boss as well, if you bring in a little cleave add I could get my veins back in almost half the time, and in keys frost did insane ST because of that. Look up S1 keys with a frost mage, they did tons of ST. Granyth, last 2 bosses RLP, shadowmoon bosses. 2T frost was insane.
@@kruethos6042 Yes! That's exactly the power behind sub rogue funnel.
finally a video I can link to explain to people who simply don't get it.
Hello Tettles, I did your EB route in this video and now my healer won't talk to me anymore. Please advise
O that first pull had a lot of berserkers and an abom...
It would be cool if someone made a profile for priority mob dam in Details. Would be fun to have overall and prio mob dam side by side.
Yes. Every WoW DPS player needs to watch this!!!!!!!
This is very nice information, Sadly there is a lot of ppl who play very casual and with the Overall dmg, so gg.
nice one. there are to many ppl with decent io. having no clue about this basic stuff.
Ofc is metter its most important thing seeing u 1st on overall dmg , you are heppier sleep better , become confident irl. So yes big D metter
Top damage isn't something you do, it's who you are
@@Kevmoeman Top damage is literally me fr fr
I think this is more of a mentality for organized groups.
You try to optimise everything to get a 1% chance to time a +30 key.
In pugs, it is just different. People prioritise stability over the possiblity to time a higher key. And each extra mob in the pull adds to the possible for a wipe which will end up costing more than the few extra seconds to clear the packs.
I cannot call this mentality to be entirely incorrect, except maybe when there are enough factors to the opposite of “less mob = less chance to wipe” i.e. bolstering abominationss/risen drakes that powers up as mobs die.
Hmmm makes me wonder if dread touch could be worth taking over death blossom for aff
Depends on what your group needs really
@@alexanderadams9008 yeah that's true, I figured it wouldn't be useful at all, but I'd have to see if it's good enough for funnel
thank god all the warriors voted season 2 tier set because overall is all that matters to them would be a shame to have prio dmg with big bloodthrists in packs where u want it or ST just full st dps
Warrior's unfortunately suffer from the fact that they have the brain of a warrior
Awesome idea on ignoring adds in details. Is there any resource out there to recommend which adds would be good candidates?
Those lil slimes close to the dragons like tettles mentioned, bats from brh, the lil birds of AD, maybe dreadpetals? Maybe the lil mobs that spit on your face in WM, the lil mobs in TOTT after 3rd boss and very close to the 4th boss. These are the only ones i can remember on top of my head
Include any adds on boss fights, witherbark EB or tree boss DHT. obviously not including the add on last boss EB or adds like that.
Anyone have a script or details profile to switch from true overall and priority/ignore weak trash-shitter mobs?
It's already a built in script called "enemy damage taken". So on the tree boss of DHT, there will be 3 bars. Boss bar, roots and the flowers.
@@quintit right but I'm referring to how he talked about removing mobs at the 10:00 mark. So a script or macro to add/remove shitter mobs
Im just a sub rogue with neither thistle tea nor vigor in mythic spec who is constantly scared of being yelled at at low mob count pulls because both my st and aoe rotations are eclipsed by 2 other dps' and often even tank's aoe in these 😢
Take a shot every time he says "kind of"
I watched this video today and i dont know if my perspective is skewed or if i actually need to improve a lot.
This is why logs never lines up with details yeah?
Great video but a 0% chance anyone in pugs will do this. All that they care about is overall dmg and padding meters
How fucked am I for playing Sub rogue? I never get invites and I've started leveling my own key LOL
Sub rogue excels in funnel, people not inviting you are just bad tbh. The only class that funnels harder than sub is enh shaman, but people just want to see overall and don't actually care that you're doing over 50 percent of the damage to prio mobs.
Is that a mogul moves hoodie? Nice
you need both. simple as that. there are many prio targets this season, but with only prio dmg you wont time a key. thats why havoc, boomkin and ret are popular. their aoe dmg is through the roof. for prio dmg you have fire mage and to a certain extend outlaw rogue. the only class that effectively funnels this season is shaman. the rest of the dps specs barely funnel...maybe frost mage.
why do all highest keys involving a demon hunter run glaive tempest over essence break then?
cause it's not their job more than likely to do the prio dmg, it's something like a fire mage.
1:26 I see what you did there. Fire mages, burn them down😏
This video is basically an advertisement for arcane mage.
Tbf, bcause I dont run +20s and up I just use my single target raid boomkin talents...
I rather thunnel my starsurges into the dangerous mobs than petting my overall dmg...
Great video! :D
I love the technical term 'shitter mobs'
LOL
Are fire mages not pressing flame strike right now?
In low keys yes in high keys no
honestly for me it depends. If you have a big funneler in the group i would run flametrike (i play with an enh shaman)
I’ve been considering dropping blade storm on Arms war and going full prio pumper mode, specifically for dungeons like Rise on Tyrannical
Don't. You can literally immune mechanics with bladestorm like second boss of WM. Its also utility and warrior needs that
Stay double spin bro
You could drop 1 BS by dropping the Avatar on use BS for Recklessness
You shouldn't be allowed to do M+ unless you watch this video. As someone who plays Fire Mage, thank you for this. The amount of shit I take because of overall even tho we timed the key, is unbelievable.
So where in this all stands the Devestation Evoker?
Pure pad minimal prio DMG.
In the grave.
dev is fine, people just hate on it because they enjoy fulfilling their delusion that aug is inherently better. when dev evokers (the 10 people playing it atm) can consistently outdps havoc, outlaw, ret, demo, fire mage... that's when you know its a community issue. disintegrate+scintillation+eternity span is your funnel
@@liamdavies2823 i had the pleasure to play with the world rank 1 devoker...and it wasnt even a competition. he completely destroyed me (havoc) dpswise.

Another banger by Mr. T
RIP SUBCREATION
The age old dilemma, this will never change as long as dps meters are alive.
You mostly get rit of that as tank alone or have someone freedom/tiger's lust you and your fine.
This is not a consideration in high keys because you clear the debuff.
@@Marianzlatepescuit yes that's why I said co-ordination.
@@Luxumbra69 yes I know. That's why I wrote what I wrote.
But even then I have had to tell my healer to give me freedom or lust on 20+ keys.
It matters because that's what groups perceive matters
Bro looks like tall falco
Turns out every season there's a couple overtuned classes that can do both aoe and prio damage without trading one for the other, so it's a nice question to ask that is rendered pointless by blizzard philosophy.

I always try to play "priority damage". I dont have shame hold my main cds for more 20-30 secs in a easy pack if those cds would be good in a situation that demands it after the easy pack.
whatever is that website, it is all wrong on tier lists.
details should make it that you have to go on your way to click and make the meters show shitter mobs so no one actually sees your padding

This is so insignificant and especially so if the person behind the keyboard is subpar in intellect. UA-camrs keep parroting how classes are the front of the success of the key, but countless times the tool always becomes disfunctional if used by someone with a bad hand.
This is a pretty impressively braindead take. Yes, if someone does something wrong, then the thing doesn’t happen
Not enough people will watch this video
@@Phi2358 nah, I've had this issue forever. You just sound like a padder.
Want an example? On fortified ruby life pools the thunder dragon is the perfext length for me to reset my icy veins if there is at least one of those little cleave adds for about 10-15 seconds.
I made a Reddit post abt this with a video of it happening on the thunder dragon and the comments about the padding were pretty good.
@@quintit Just as I suspected - it's not about saving time or wiping to a pull it's about you coping with not being top dps. One example that doesn't even support the argument(key timing/survivability optimization) from a dungeon that's 2 seasons old proves my point. This shit isn't real. If it makes you feel better do what dorki does and remove all adds from details that he doesn't top damage on. Or play a different spec if it bothers you to not top charts.
damn you really dont get how playing as a team works. It's not about dps, its about not having a dead in the water dps for an entire pack. That costs time.@@Phi2358
