You are correct in the downforce, but the swept back trade off is greater. Now a 16" wide tire thats stickier than all hell, thatle do it! It's not the absolute world record for 0-100 kph as someone might be inclined to think given the title and description, it is the record specifically for electric vehicles. Very impressive nonetheless.
Amazing work 👍 One suggestion for futur record attempts: how about setting a minimum driver weight (if your lighter add weights...). Since the car is so light the drivers weight has a very significant impact and therefore should be a somewhat controlled variable imo.
It also effects grip. I think the whole weight/delivery of torque combo is very sensitive, and it probably doesn't work with a lighter or heavier driver.
@@rielnotermansYes, I’m sure they fine-tuned it based on road conditions, temperatures, power, weight, and drag. Fantastic work. An ideal setup would be a system that can adapt to the conditions after a couple tries. It may already be a hybrid - a mix of both.

Really impressive and explains my question to the verdict someone gave a few years ago, that acceleration under 1.6 sec to 100(or something like that), in a car, becomes physically impossible, due to grip and aero...
He was right about friction-based connection. But racing tires do stick to the ground like glue so you can transfer more force through than is pushing down the tire. Also the car is really light so the adhesive force component is quite large compared to the weight load. F1 for example is slower in 0-100 because the car is heavier and the glueing effect is designed for the huge load F1 cars generate.

Actually, the world record for a ground vehicle was made by USAF Colonel John Stapp, Phd. He is referred to as the "Fastest Man On Earth." He sustained 46 G's. In his last ride, at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico in the 1950's. Very well documented. Some videos of this are on UA-cam.
That's an interesting thing - although i couldn't find a 0-100 time - but being the payload strapped onto a rocket sled is not quite the same as what we see in this video. Interesting too that he lived to 89, despite exposing himself as a guinea pig. For reference, there have been impact assessments from various accidents that demonstrate survival (and recovery) from considerably higher g-loadings ie Grosjeans crash a couple of years go in F1 was recorded at 67g - he walked away - and Ralf Schumacher copped 71g which broke his back in a couple of places.
I guess it's not too bad. But when you consider that a top fuel drag car will dash from 0 to 60 miles an hour .9 of a second, cover a distance of 60 feet, and reach 100 miles an hour in that time. And going on to cover the standing 1/4 mile in 3.6 seconds at over 338 miles an hour. It really isn't that impressive, is it?
I guess it's not too bad, but an aircraft carreer catapult does it in 0.8, for planes weighing far more than a top fuel. My point here is that this little EV thing can't be compared to a top fuel, nor to a fighter jet : not the same maintenance, not the same infrastructure (a top fuel couldn't do its thing on a warehouse parking for example), sooo... Each one is impressive in it's way, that's all.
The point is its an electric vehicle, and on top of that its built by students. A world record has its parameters. Now try and take that dragster and go around the autocross course these were built for and see how well it does.
@@mrskywalker115 It wasn't a lap time in relation to the record, but 0-100. In acceleration (drag) records, electric vehicles are light years behind internal combustion vehicles. This is a fact, regardless of the fact that the vehicle in the video is very cool and nimble.
@user-dj5by6pe8p but the record is for an electric vehicle(sure they didn'tspecify that but among the fsa community its obvious what they meant), every record has its parameters. my point was the fact that it's that fast but also so nimble, literally nothing else is that good at both, even a Shifter cart can't touch it. Male runners are also faster so when a woman shaters the old record do you bring up that there is a faster record by a man? The point is its the record for a biological different group, same here.

Wow! Excellent work! I love the cold, German logic at work of getting a small "superleggera" driver to keep weight down. That's Lancia thinking, right there.
They were Swiss.

Absolutely incredible
This title is clickbait - not on the premise that its wrong, but that it is misleading because it leaves out pertinent information. It's not the absolute world record for 0-100 kph as someone might be inclined to think given the title and description, it is the record specifically for electric vehicles. Very impressive nonetheless.

Amazing work 👍
One suggestion for futur record attempts: how about setting a minimum driver weight (if your lighter add weights...).
@@rielnotermans Mass definitely affects acceleration, which is why they use aero/suction to increase downforce without adding more mass (other than the suction equipment).
Why would you make the driver a minimum weight? That is the whole reason race car drivers are skinny. That and fat people won't fit. Getting the lightest driver you can is racing 101. When I used to street race motorcycles I was only 125 pounds.

Considering a top fuel dragster hits this speed in 0.4 seconds and 762cm, I'm wondering what exactly this world record is?
Is it a sub-catagory for propulsion type?
its the world record for electric vehicles...
A topfuel dragster goes from 0-100 mph (around 160 km per hour) in just 0,8 sec so this is impressive but not a record
It's a record for an electric car which is what they were aiming for
@@sammiroberts4653 ETH is lying to get views, it's shameful!! The 0 to 100 km/h world record has NOT been broken!!!!

That’s pretty cool. A top fuel dragster does 0-100 km/h in 0.4 seconds and 0-100 mph in 0.9 so, they’re damn close to those times. Wonder how long before these times are equaled or bettered?
It sounds like they are very, very far away from those times.
@@jonathanparle8429 70%?! A TFD maxes at 5Gs and the Mythen achieved 3Gs. 3 is 60% of 5. So, 40% more not 70. The Kia to Porsche analogy is ridiculous. @@WOUBZY You’re joking, right?
@@stashoneill 0.556 seconds is an enormous difference when talking about numbers so small. It took this car 2.39x longer to reach 60mph than the top fuel dragster you mention. Even when talking about 0-60 times in the 2.5-3.5 second range, 0.1 seconds can be more than enough to set two vehicles apart. How you can claim a 0.556 second difference, in a sub 1 second 0-60 time, is not a big difference sees you as the only one who could be joking here.
@@WOUBZY You can play with numbers to validate your opinion as much as you’d like but, in the grand scheme of things, 0.556 seconds is damn close. Especially considering that the previous record set only a year ago was 1.461. So, in a year, they lowered the time by 0.505 seconds. An eternity according to you. When the record times are improving at that rate, the perspective changes on how the size of a time difference is perceived. Don’t forget, these are unaided times unlike the NHRA.

Brittany Force recorded the fastest run in Top Fuel history during qualifying at the 2022 NHRA Finals in Pomona - beating her own record of 338.48 mph, set just a month earlier at the NHRA Midwest Nationals in St Louis, Missouri. Her elapsed time was 3.641 seconds. Force went on to win the Top Fuel championship for the second time. thats miles per hour.
What does a combustion engine have to do with an electric vehicle record?
@@AthenaAutocrossHad to run the powerplant to charge the damn battery lol
@@flipfloptanlines926 it's like a 1kw battery. It could charge on any decent home solar array in a few minutes. Meanwhile you need 15 gallons of nitromethane for top fuel for one run that's about 1,000 USD in fuel per run.
@@AthenaAutocross Meanwhile you need 18 gallons at $30.50 a gallon puts the figure a $549 dollars of fuel per run. $457 dollars if you use your made up 15 gallon number. Power factor divided by cell efficiency puts you at about 6800 square feet of solar panel and even then the math says 108 minutes to top you 1k battery up, if you can control the heat. Where did you find a driver that small (sub 90 lbs?)
Really impressive and explains my question to the verdict someone gave a few years ago, that acceleration under 1.6 sec to 100(or something like that), in a car, becomes physically impossible, due to grip and aero...
Solution? Increase the grip. Dragsters reach 100 in less than half a second due to the sticky track prep
This isn’t a car, it’s a fukn toy. Build it even smaller and it will go under 0.8.
@@Tiller.McC352 Then they are faster 0-100?

Wonder who came up with the idea to put a car and trailer sideways at the end of the runway. 😅
Several big differences between a rocket sled and a self propelled wheeled vehicle.
The specific record achieved in this run is the Guinness World Record for "Fastest 0-100 km/h acceleration by an electric car".
That acceleration is nuts
Is this a world record for electric cars only? There are faster cars out there, look to top-fuel dragsters, they reach 100kmt/h in half that time😎
I‘m impressed the driver is 40kg, take care and don‘t lose any more weight!
Also a Top Fuel dragster does 0 to 160 km/h in 0.8 sec.
With over 10, 000bhp
Not with 300hp
wow! amazing! cheers from Italy!
It says fastest EV start up speed, obviously not including airplanes and drag racers.
Is using mode decoupled suspension?
Top fuel dragsters pass 0-100mph (160km/h!!!) in 0,8s, so this "Record" is valid only for electric models.
The point is its an electric vehicle, and on top of that its built by students. A world record has its parameters. Now try and take that dragster and go around the autocross course these were built for and see how well it does.
For now . . .
@@IstvánBodnár-k2yit might also be the record for Speedrun, which doesn't need a whole drive train rebuild after a run.
