    To put it in perspective, the quickest wheel-driven acceleration is still for top-fuel dragsters, with a 0-100mph time of 0.8 seconds.

      Yep, and they reach 100km/h in 0.4 seconds and the rear end of the car hasn't even cleared the start line yet lol
      Got some questions, answering in edit: start acceleration is close to 6 Gs and gradually goes down to 2-3 Gs; deceleration with chutes is -6 Gs; the cars are 25 ft long (300 inch or 7.6 meter) and indeed by the time the rear end goes thru the start line they go faster than 60 mph (100 km/h), no joke. Consumes about 40 gallon (150 liter) of fuel during a run.

      The real fun thing is the physics behind why top fuel dragsters are able to acclerate quicker than EVs.
      Traction and downforce.
      The exhaust on topfuel dragsters as they rev up is able to generate so much downforce while at a standstill, which is not replicated by an EV!
      Edit-Yes fans can produce some downforce, but..
      To put in perspective, dragster will do like 4-5kn+ of downforce just from exhaust gas alone.
      McMurtry is new to me! New rabbit hole for today

    • @flipfloptanlines926
      @flipfloptanlines926 Рік тому +46

      @@dsanson101 Not necessarily on starting line acceleration but you are correct. I say not necessarily because they limit the angle to be swept back on the exaust so it blows upward more, thus creating alot of downforce. However, they overall speed and time is improved by laying the exhaust straight back creating front force making the car faster. You are correct in the downforce, but the swept back trade off is greater. Now a 16" wide tire thats stickier than all hell, thatle do it! Now once that big wing gets goin 100 mph, 1 sec, the downforce starts and we can start increasing the power applied with clutch. Power is applied by timer in 5 stages and the final power is never 100% locked, its always slippin
