I think the plan was to adapt the Chase as the third entry but sadly it didn't come to be. Would have been interesting to see how they tackled that considering it was more a collection of set pieces rather than a linear narrative
2:36 if any of you are wondering where the 80’s Earthshock Cybermen come from, look no further then that little Cybermatt and the Cyber Controller. After the remaining Cyber Nomads returned to Telos and found the Cyber Controller (now repaired by the Cybermatt), they rebuilt into Cyber Neomorph. At least, that’s the hypothetical history from the ArcHive Tapes
Personal headcanon that the Nomad ship landed not long after the Doctor left, maybe the ending scene was from a CyberNomads POV, with the zoom in with the Cybermen symbol indicating the Controller was merely knocked out
Its *Canon* , as Michael Kilgarrif reprised his role as the Cyber-Controller from Tomb in Attack of the Cybermen! its the same Cyberman, just Upgraded into Cyber-Neomorph!
I think is sad that a lot of people look at toberman as the black servant character, he is arguably the hero of the story, he sacrifices himself to save everyone, and it’s a pretty big role for a black actor in 1967
Unfortunately he's only there to serve as muscle and be intimidating with next to no dialogue. If anything Toberman is portrayed as an OMAM Lennie Small-type which is really unfair on the actor who played him
While I understand how weird at first viewing them just leaving Toberman's body there is but I think it's more that since he was somewhat converted into a Cyberman they didn't want to risk messing with the body let alone bringing it back to Earth just in case since their inability to leave shit alone got most of them killed and risked a reawakened Cyberarmy being let loose (plus the implication of the cliffhanger of the Cybermat sneaking out it could've also been part of their reasoning for the later return of the Telos Cybermen with him maybe being fully converted later on)
The Tomb of The Cybermen was the only 4-episode Doctor Who story from the 1967-1968 season. The other Doctor Who stories of that season are 6-episode stories.
azure rainbow Plus at the time it was the only story in the 5th season to have all the episodes.. Until in 2013 The Emery of the World was back with the reminding 5 eps.
I think it is better than "delete" tho. It shows that the cybermen exist purely because of the desperate struggle to survive. I think the breaking voice is like their emotional inhibitor glitching with the pure amount of sheer willpower the cyber men display.
Ian Turner i know that. I was just making a joke saying that the doctor should stop saying, “that’s the last of-“ because whatever he’s talking about is gonna come back somehow.
It bums me out that they just left Toberman there like that. He saved all of them and was the hero of this story. I’d like to think it was because of the tightness of filming, but I can’t help but think it wasn’t that. One off characters who die saving the Doctor or other characters in modern doctor who, such as Mr Jefferson in the satan pit or the hostess in midnight, are way more likely to receive some kind of acknowledgment
The Doctor, Jamie, Zoe, Professor Parry and the pilot were lucky that the Cybermat outside Cyber Control didn''t bite them after Toberman got killed stopping the Cyber Controller.
While the Electro-larynx approach made them pretty frightening voice wise I'm guessing that this is probably the reason why they ditched it in The Wheel in Space.
The way Toberman goes "You will never get past Toberman, the door is closed!" and then slams the door shut was so freaking awesome.
Yeah this ending never left me, I loved it. Errr the Toberman part, that is. The rest was, shall we say "bollocks".
“What a tragic death. Oh well let’s just leave his body here, unceremoniously unburied.”
Right??

Such a great way that Toberman went out. I actually got some goosebumps when he said "The door is closed!"
If the second Cushing movie didn't bomb, I would've loved to see this story adapted on the big screen like the Daleks were.

Yeah, he really gets sold short by people buying into that characterisation. He's the one who actually saves the day, and by heroic sacrifice.
Unfortunately he's only there to serve as muscle and be intimidating with next to no dialogue. If anything Toberman is portrayed as an OMAM Lennie Small-type which is really unfair on the actor who played him
Totally agreed!
Toberman died a hero
And then immediately became a Cyberman .
Poor old Toberman
That Random Bloke he will be missed
That ending with the cybermat and toberman on the ground gives me chills when the cybermen theme comes up 2:36
Also the cyberman face at the end looks angry
The cyber mat was able to repair Toberman’s mechanical implants and converted him into a new cyber controller
I aave to agree. that was a real spooky way to end a story.
"Welp, the tomb is closed and this guy is dead. good work everyone! we'll call it a day"
What an odd way to end a story.

He is introduced in the beginning as a disposable servant that belongs to one of the other characters.
