- and now, back to our irregularly scheduled programming...
I recently saw a video about "Best Doctor Who Cliffhangers" and noted that there was a distressing amount of Classic Who Cliffhangers, in fact, I think it only totalled around 3 while the remaining 7 were NuWho related. I am rectifying this grave injustice with a series covering the best and worst Doctor Who Cliffhangers.

The ‘He’s drowned!’ sequence really freaked me out as a kid, seeing the Doctor slowly vanish under the water in that last shot . . .
The final moments of The Caves of Androzani is just the absolute peek of 80s Who. The Kindest Doctor of them all saving a companion who they met in the previous story and giving them the Queen Bats Milk was so brilliantly done. Season 21 was such a dark season. Leaving a whole sea base with dead bodies, Tegan and Turlough leaving and Killing kamelion was so impactful.
I'm quite glad that JNT kept Earthshock Part 1 a secret back in the 80's just so the audience was in quite a big surprise to see the Cybermen once again.
Agreed but i hate giving JNT credit
@@SmallvillenerdTwo Why? At least he did it better than what RTD did back in 2006 during his second run as show runner.
Caves Of Androzani Part 4 is one the best pieces of television I’ve ever seen 😢
why sixth doctor doing here
Peter will ALWAYS be my absolute favorite doctor. He brought so much charm to the character
The ending of Part three of Frontios is superb it still manages to make the hairs on my neck stand as the Doctor declares ' there's a living mind in that lot ' and then recognizes it to be Captain Revere.
I love how many of these are the last episode of their story, they ended on a nice dramatic moment really well at this time, kinda like the Hartnell era.
I hate to use the term underrated because it's often used totally inappropriately, however I feel justified in calling the Fifth Doctor's era unashamedly underrated. So many people just sleep on him and it's such a shame because he always had the most interesting arc in classic Who to me, starting off as hopeful and innocent, but as his incarnation went on he was put in *near* impossible situations where he was ultimately responsible for the deaths of many innocents. By the end of his life he was dragged so hard down by his guilt that the only thing he could do to ail it was to give his own life to save Peri, highlighting that even after everything he was put through he still maintained his values. He was an impossible Doctor in many ways, not too dissimilar from the War Doctor, he was thrust into so many situations where the only true way to uphold his morals would be to end his own life or, ironically enough, to go against his morals.
A brilliant Doctor and fuck, I wish I was a kid in the 80's watching that Earthshock cliffhanger, must've been so fucking hype.
You had it until you started going on about "born in the 80s". You have no clue how shitty being an 80s kid was. What I'm trying to say is be careful what you wish for.
@404 TV No, you have no clue what you're on about. Being a kid in the 80s was fantastic and I'd give anything to go back.
This is a really interesting take on the Fifth Doctor, one that never occurred to me as a kid. And yes, as a kid in the 80s, the Earthshock cliffhanger was insane. I was fortunate to have a fantastic 80s.
@@rnw2739 I just asked my mother about that, and she says you're living in a fantasy land or straight up lying (I have a feeling its the former). The 80s was more wild, to the point of fault.
@@raksh9 One of few, who unironically loved the 80s as a kid. But fuck me, the UK 80s had it brutal sometimes.
Military guy: "Take cover!!"
Tegan: sprints straight down the middle

Bruh frontios actually destroying the tardis must’ve freaked a lot of people out when it first aired
The Mryka cliffhanger was fantastic, Janet and Peter made you feel the danger! And you left it out!
The Guardians were such G's
Hope they come back some day
3:47
Tegan: Doctor, shouldn't we have helped put out the fire? We are partially responsible.
Doctor: I have a sneaky suspicion _this_ fire should be allowed to run its course.
Adric: How do you mean?
Doctor: I'll explain someday.
The next shot explains everything. This is the Great London Fire of 1666, which wiped out the bubonic plague there! 😉
Idk if I'm the only one who liked it but I thought the Black Guardian trying to control Turlough was really interesting. I feel like the Doctor knew something was off during Mawdryen Undead but kept Turlough around to see what was happening. He didn't exactly know it was the Black Guardian but he did know that there could still be some kind if redemption with Turlough. It showed his more human nature side as the 5th. Honestly idk if a modern era Doctor would have the patientence to do something that kind.
21:31 - “OH SSSHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIII…”
"DESTROY THEM DESTROY THEM AT ONCE"
Adric will be remembered!
I loved that Michael Robbins really got a chance to shine in Doctor Who
Caves 3 is the best cliffhanger ever!
Finally thank you so much!
I must say, Sharez Jek’s mask does look like something out of Phantom of the Opera
Does anyone feel like that Part 2 of Kinda should've been added. I get why it wasn't added when Part 3 came along.
My favorite regeneration 😃
Earthshock Part 4 is so impactful
To this day nearly 40 years later, I still take offense to Colin Baker being given top billing over Peter Davison in the end credits of Part 4 of Caves of Androzani.
Hard shit! Colin was at that precise moment, the incumbent Doctor and Davison was yesterday's news.
Earthshock part 1 is my favourite cliffhanger.
The black guardian reminded me of Michael Portillo
surely the master reveal in Time Flight deserves to be here? I mean the episode sucked but come on that was a fantastic cliffhanger
Funny, I loved Time Flight, even though it made no sense. Imagine the script pitch: "The Master, disguised as a disfigured Arabic magician, sucks a Concorde back to the Stone Age where he attempts to access the power of yet another ancient and powerful race."
@@raksh9 haha, I mean its not very good but there are defo worse stories out there, I wonder what went through JNT's mind when he heard the idea for the first time!
I am your 101 like 🎉
These were the good ole days of Doctor who..
I would watch each episode religiously!
Now this show has evolved into a ridiculous shit show you can't even make sense of...
Ridiculous incarnations
And regenerations that are so dumb I don't EVEN watch it anymore as a ex -fan of the longest running series known...
Peter Capaldi was the last doctor for me..
And that was how it was supposed to be after the 12th doctor...
I don't think The Five Doctors counts as a cliffhanger, Cause the special literally ends as it is.
