- A David Crosby song. The tuning (low to high): EBDGAD. Picking is open on GAD strings, hammer on 3rd fret, open GAD, hammer on 5th fret (scat, false start, 'If I had ever been here before..'). 'And I feel ...', DGAD on 9th, 7th, followed by 007700, 007600 (back and forth), 006400, 004200. I've added a little bass drone on the B. Harmonics are on 12, 7 and 5th. The voicing at 'Down under you...' and 'We have all been here before..' is movable, from 5th to 9th and 12th to 5th respectively - use this 12th fret position shape at all other positions: 12 x 12 11 10 0. First crawl down: 005400, 004400, 003400, 002400, 002200, 002100, resolve is 200200, followed by h12, h7, 200200 twice ('Do you know, don't you wonder...') then 'Down under you voicing as described above at 5th. Second crawl down is: 005040, 005030, 005020, 000200. Then, 034400, 012200, 000000, 0122000. Then moveable voicing described at top at 12th to 5th but end on 303000, do this 3 times. Hope you enjoy.
i've had a bug up my ass to learn how this song is played for some time now. i asked several knowlegable guitar players i've known for years, none of them had any ideas about it, or what the correct alternate tuning should be. then i got the bright idea to google my question... wow, several good youtubes available, yours was the 3rd one i tried, bingo, yours is the best. your singing of the melody makes it come alive. thanks, rick, your scholarship is greatly appreciated.
AWESOME COVER! I'll be watching and re-watching this for hours till I can play it like you man. Really nice work!

Hi, it's a 1969 Fender Palomino.
@JonVellner Thanks!
very good finger styling but David didn't finger style it he actually used a regular pic and cross picked it.
just like Greg Lake did so many people you see trying to play from the beginning don't realize Greg actually used a flat pic.
@gkitteringham Thank you!
