- UPDATE 12/2/2021: turns out there were three separate failures on my TDI. ON THE SECOND FAILURE I FOUND VW had published an extended warranty to 10 years or 123k miles. I had to replace my EGR valve, heater core clog, and an emissions flap (?). All covered under warranty. Here’s a copy: www.vwdiesellookup.com/pdf/VW...
I usually watch videos for my DIY car projects. I couldn’t find a video on the EGR for the MK6. It’s different enough from the older versions I figured I’d upload what I learned. I’m definitely not a pro youtuber, just a frequent watcher and a fairly experienced mechanic trying to give back to the community. I hope you find this helpful.
Covers the VW Jetta MK6, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
Might cover the Beetle, Passat, and Golf but I'm not sure.

You just saved my ass. I had no idea there was the real long one on the back 😂
What size are those
Thanks for pointing out what the throttle body looks like on a diesel !
this is the best how-to ive seen. perfectly described what im getting into
Great video! I found removing the radiator fan gives you extra space to work with and I also removed the big hose connected to the throttle body to get the bolt in the back easily
Now do a video on replacing the egr cooler! 🤣 thats the video I REALLY need.
No you need a video on a EGR and DPF delete 😂
You're a life saver. Thanks man.
just the video I was looking for thanks
i have a 2013 Passat tdi, it is the same engine Im getting P0402 (Excessive Flow Detected) Only been with this car 2 years, looking forward to sell it
Same man, i had my jetta tdi premium for 1 year and it's been such a headache, first it was just calipers and general maintenance, now it is a glow plug plugged up egr and dpf combo, dealer said 4k to fix it up I said hell no, some seafoam down the intake and maybe a block off plate for that stupid egr valve and im in it for maybe 150$
How did you remove big rubber hose on the bottom of egr valve. I can’t seem to be able to slide it out. I need to remove that big rubber hose before I can access bolts on the back to remove egr
How was performance before and after the cleaning?
thank you so much been searching forever
Glad I could help!
Lol many people are not videographers but they don't stop them from making tons of em not as good as this
I don't think that is EGR valve. EGR is on the back of the engine.
I wish you had shown how dirty it was when you removed it. I have to change one today and I have no idea of what's considered a little dirty or a lot dirty.
I’m pretty sure although not considered acceptable yet normal for them to be almost completely cracked out with extreme restriction and barely enough passage for gases
oh you will know that when you see it 😂
I've seen a 1.9 alh drive around with an EGR valve that had a restriction the size of a dime.
Trying to find a video on replacing the egr filter, anyone?
Try searching EGR, DPF TDI delete
What codes were you getting? Im currently getting egr insufficient flow and dpf light comes on but goes away after regen but back on if car is shut off and turned back on.
What year is your car? My codes came back on so I bought a new EGR valve. And the codes came back again. I did some more googling and found out that my 2014 Jetta TDI has an extended warranty because of diesel issues (great) and the heater core was clogged. My local VW dealer replaced it for free. Unfortunately the light is back on again. I'm not loving this car.
My codes were P2457 and P045B.
These are exactly the same codes I'm having issues with too
@@larracollins2499 they replaced my dpf abs intake manifold
@@MrB1zzle your super lucky. I bought thr car with a salvaged title( undisclosed to me) VW won't honor the repairs even though the milage would have allowed it
@@larracollins2499 call them back because they said the same thing to me and my wife called the main VW line and they fixed it
What model is this jetta you did the work on? Did cleaning the egr valve work or you had to replace it?
2014
The cleaning did not work. I had to replace it. Then the EGR threw a code that was because the heater core was clogged. I found the car is under warranty for 10 years, 120k or 150k miles. VW fixed the heater core. It threw another code, I went back and they replaced some flap thing. Now it works great.
@@Mike_In_Idaho what was the flap?
@Mike_In_Idaho what a nightmare this car has been in the 1 year of owning it, it's a shame semi trucks and coal plants, steel mills can spew whatever they want but a tiny 2l has to be chocked to death for emissions sake
Just kidding I watched the whole thing anyway lmao
Is the same for 2013 jetta diesel?
Yes - he says MK5 at the beginning but this is an MK6 that will cover your 2013 TDI.
@@platinumnexium7465 he also says throttle body at one point in the video.
How did the actual cleaning go??
The cleaning was TOUGH. I spent a good hour scrubbing that thing with carb cleaner and brake cleaner. I was pretty happy with the results. Unfortunately the light came back on.
@@Mike_In_Idaho sorry to hear that
@@Mike_In_Idaho Some guy tried using oven cleaner. Not sure if it would fuck up some electronics in there.
@@Mike_In_Idaho did you end up replacing the egr valve after the cleaning did not work? And did that fix your problem?
more helpful?? Show us what it looked like b4 you cleaned it and say something about how you cleaned it, with what, etc. and you mention up front that this is MK5 but your title says MK6. Does it matter?
Diesel is direct injection no carb
This video is not true for a 2015 jetta
How horrible of a process is this for a beginner?
It's "mark 5" you heathen
Isnt it a mk6?
Thank you bro 😊. What a nonsense system.
I had to stop watching. You said "emkay 5"
oh well
You should probably stick with watching videos lol 😆
