Thomas Edson also went through many failures before he became the genius. I think the universe was forcing her to at least try. I saw a lot of myself on this short movie...sometimes I feel like a loser and I never finish anything I start.
I've loved Karen Gillan since I first saw her on Doctor Who, and damn if she doesn't seem to age! She does a fantastic job as everything from angry, murderous Nebula to this everywoman loser who works her butt off so that some weird alien office drone can get a meh idea out into the world. The most unbelievable part of ALL of this (great short film, btw), was that two years is considered the LONGEST period of time that a person hasn't acted on an idea. And, once again, Dust hosts a short film that I would watch an entire series of.
Enjoyed the heck out of it. I think the unsung hero in this production was Jon Bass. His delivery was so perfect. That scene where he's describing the billboard call was by far the funniest part. Seriously though, the whole thing was so fun.
The lead actress did an amazing job. I felt for her character. And I can relate. I’m a writer and sometimes I get a block. I struggle, agonize, distract myself then finally force myself to finish the chapter. And its . . . just okay.
What's even worse is finishing the chapter, falling in love with it, falling asleep, 10 hours later waking up, re-reading it, and then realising it was junk.

That was weird but oddly compelling, thanks to the great performances and direction. Tom is right. It's the chase that's the exciting part to be doing. Once you catch what you were chasing it will never be the same again. This is the message that Chloe was assigned to teach the world. 🙂
Nonsense. If the message were true, there would have been no point in enacting the plot of this short, which required her to reach the destination instead of just screwing around for years. In fact, the moral is that everything she said was wrong. Or maybe the moral is that some people have no idea what they're talking about.
If that is the message, then is it better to not actually achieve things because the happiness ends? Thats what Jerry was saying in the cartoon. But no, there is joy to be found in the chase AND in the achievement if you make worthwhile goals. Disappointment comes from both failure to achieve and in achieving blase' goals. I'd happily watch Karen Gillan do laundry, so sad girl holding food and cough syrup abuse is phenomenal. I really felt like she was sad, the beets were sad, and for the first time in history even pizza was sad. Beets are always generally sad and bring down everyone in the room with their beet vibes, but I digress. The worst part of all of this was that sad girls holding food wasn't a real website and now my dreams of seeing high quality still images of Karen with beets and/or pizza may never happen. Somehow I will try to find a way to go on, but it will be difficult.
Totally original iteration of imagining reality! Performed, and produced, with believable excellence. I'm kinda happily nervous about going to sleep now.

The pacing was an important part of the success of this piece. Any faster would have been detrimental. Convincing delivery and facial expressions. No one overplayed their part. Effective scene work that emphasized the script’s goal. Cloe’s repartee w John was cute and clever. Good script. Good cinematography. Good acting. Well done.

So, you get the award for keeping me engaged, not boring me (the #1 rule in filmmaking). I blitzed through, watched it in a single sitting. :) Good, tight editing (and presumably therefore good tight writing). Some good turns of phrase. Your team had a story to tell, and you told it -- engagingly. As you alluded to in your reply to the "business model" question: it's now in the pantheon. :) Props to Karen, BTW: I know it's her job -- but this character is so clearly and immediately different from her other characters (amongst the ones I've seen, at least) -- but with some texture (but without being a caricature). That's hard to pull off in a work this short. Special props for the sleep dep: yep. (Good job to makeup, as well.) Oh: great lighting and framing as well. :)
That was OK but just OK. Joking, that was an amazing short film , perfect in length, a beginning ,a middle and an end! Thank you for starting my week right!
This film made me feel ashamed of myself for all the ideas I've been too lazy to follow through with. The title is perfect. I'll get off my butt now and get to work. Thanks for the film, it's great.
Thomas Edison did not invent the lightbulb, he commercialized it. Ebenezer Kinnersley, an England-born scholar of College of Philadelphia invented the first lightbulb in 1761. Then in 1835 James Lindsay, coined the name "light bulb" and made the first practical bulb. In 1840, Warren de la Rue improved on it. . Then in 1874 two Canadian inventors, Matthew Evans and Henry Woodward developed a bulb, but couldn't get it to market, so they sold their patent to Edison.
The idea that the awesome and great purpose of the universe is sometimes lackluster and unexpectedly mundane made me think this is a film that would have made Kurt Vonnegut laugh out loud. Thank you for this!

I would give this one 6/5 stars!! Brilliant! Nicely done! I loved every minute!
I can't put my finger on why this was so good. I need a few days to process it, but I can tell that this is something I will remember for the rest of my life.
This is just so charming and funny. It reminds me of the kind of underwhelming ideas that I often have; with the exact same effects on the people around me. Keep 'em coming Mr. Nick.
JOY! joy, joy. That ending wasn't just a cherry on top... it was the whole jar.
I’m a huge fan of Sad Girls Holding Food. I have all their albums and can’t wait for them to tour again!
Excellent film! Unique idea, and Karen Gillan is the best! All the actors in this film were fantastic! Just wonderful!

I count three actors I loved so much in gigantic superhero movies. I’m glad you guys get to make more stuff. You brighten our worlds
Always nice to see Karen Gillan, she rocks every role she plays! :)
Wow, making a movie about something useless is one thing, but making it entertaining and captivating is another ! Great story, great acting !
Totally original iteration of imagining reality! Performed, and produced, with believable excellence. I'm kinda happily nervous about going to sleep now.
The writing is miles ahead! Most people can’t comprehend what they’re seeing. Acting is great, yes, they’re focusing on the wrong thing ;^)
what? wow? I mean my mind is blown, by just how funny creepy meaningful fun and entertaining this is. How is it possible that I just randomly stumbled upon this while searching for random stuff about Dr. Strange? The execution, the writing the timing and the acting. I love love love this... and can't stop thinking about how much fun all this hard work must have been.
BRILLIANT!!! This is so true. It's all about my life and I'm laughing and crying at the same time. Karen, Nick, my heart is yours forever
What an amazing show with A list cast. This needs to be developed into a TV series or movie.
it just was and then cancelled after the first episode. we'll miss all of the cast.
That is what their planning on. Most likely
@@0NlRAPTOR Philistines!
A weekly anthology series??
Karen Gillan is amazing ! Love Her ! Thanks for the Short !
This one actually got a chuckle out of me...and with having such an evolved sense of humor, that's an accomplishment. 😏
BUT - 'Eureka!' is actually listed on IMDB as an episode of anthology series 'Neurotica.' (which only has one episode) 🤔
That was the best, most well-written, expertly directed, and and meaningfully acted, yet completely unfulfilling and unsatisfying short I have ever seen. Congratulations! I hate you.
And now I hate Nick Kocher, as well. By the way, he's married to Karen Gillan. I suppose she feels differently...
What a cast! Karen Gillan is always brilliant, such a great short film!
Always fun to see Karen Gillan! Loved the video!
Hey Nick, I thought "Eureka" was great, your writing was Karen as always is a great actress and did a awesome job, I love all of her work, looking forward to seeing Karen in more short films, I'd like to see her write, direct and star in more films.
This was really good. One of the better shorts I have seen and I've seen hundreds of them.....The lead actress was really great. Solid supporting cast. Funny. Clever....I enjoyed it...
This spoke to me in a really strange way. It's exactly what I needed to see today.
A short every artist should see
That short film was better than many shows in Netflix.
So we're primed to see her and that hair as Amy Pond, and the character acts just like Amy Pond, and I absolutely love it. We've seen Gillan in enough stuff to know that she doesn't have to do Amy Pond, but I feel she did it again for the fans. Thanks.
Good inspiration. Sometimes you can work your butt off just for something to end up just "OKAY". It's the journey that counts because that's where you learn and derive enjoyment.
Now excuse me while I continue procrastinating by watching more videos.
As an animator this feels like every animator's starting out story ❤
I love how just random this is. Karen Gillian is awesome as always.
This was a hell of a story, I was honestly surprised. Thank you!
What a wonderfully entertaining reminder that while goals are nice, life happens in the process.
Well done.
This is one extremely profound work of art. Well done, Nick Kocher! Karen Gillan deserves an Oscar nomination.
I love Karen Gillan! Loved her on Doctor Who! She did an excellent job..this was so funny and would make a fun sitcom!
Yes, of course but I also loved her depiction of Nebula in Guardians Of the The Galaxy.
Loved it! Now I know the reason for all the real like dreams that turned into bad ideas to tryout. NOW I know the liberating truth in my and other peoples failures, ‘ITS NOT OUR FAULT !”😃
Karen's always fun to watch. Great actress. I enjoyed the entire story and the intriguing idea behind it. But as an indie author, gotta say, 7:27-7:29 really spoke to me, lol.
"No honeybears were harmed in the making of this film"
I'm not sure! But i'm very happy to rediscover Karen Gillian in another strange and madness character! She's so amazing.
OK. 😋. Karen absolutely hit this out of the park, indeed the whole cast were superb. This was my sort of craziness. Can we see the full TnJ animation? I'm guessing it exists......😆. Btw, like others I vote this as best dust-to-date.
Work hard play hard
There may be copyright issues, if it even exists outside the short sequence on screen.
I love films (sometimes make my own tiny ones), and am a tough customer (e.g
Wandered off from the recent Mad Max movie, never got around to coming back.
So, you get the award for keeping me engaged, not boring me (the #1 rule in filmmaking). I blitzed through, watched it in a single sitting. :)
Good, tight editing (and presumably therefore good tight writing). Some good turns of phrase. Your team had a story to tell, and you told it -- engagingly.
As you alluded to in your reply to the "business model" question: it's now in the pantheon. :)
Props to Karen, BTW: I know it's her job -- but this character is so clearly and immediately different from her other characters (amongst the ones I've seen, at least) -- but with some texture (but without being a caricature). That's hard to pull off in a work this short.
Special props for the sleep dep: yep. (Good job to makeup, as well.)
Oh: great lighting and framing as well.
I love Karen!!!
I loved how there is actually quite a few layers here and the the whole creative commentary on some ideas are just ok is really fun.
Karen Gillan is simply amazing. 😍
Very good, and strangely motivating!
The look on every face after watching her project. I don't laugh very often but that was gold.
That really was amazing with a beautiful message. Nice job people who made this, it was OK!
The idea that the awesome and great purpose of the universe is sometimes lackluster and unexpectedly mundane made me think this is a film that would have made Kurt Vonnegut laugh out loud. Thank you for this!
