In directing Humanized, I had the great privilege of working with an incredibly talented cast and crew (without whom this pilot would not be streaming here today.) The journey has been surreal and amazing, and I’m so proud to be able to share our show with you all. The metaphor of AI has always been used to explore the fundamental questions of human empathy; Humanized uses the scifi genre to engage in questions of gender, parenthood, control, grief, and the ways in which technology interplays with how young people come of age today. To everyone who has ever struggled in finding their identity, this show is for you. Thank you all for watching, and I hope you love Humanized as much as we do.
I love the story but the dialog needs work, a little stilted in places; and Dr. Costa has some severe show-it-don't-say-it soliloquies. But 8+/10 overall.
Colin, I cannot thank you enough for how masterfully you translated the script to the screen. Your distinct creative voice made collaborating with you uniquely rewarding. Thank you for the countless hours of dedication 🤖🦾
@ you are at the heart of this story. It all starts with you. Collaborating with you was such a joy. Thank you so much for taking me with you on this journey.
It was such an honor to be the editor for this pilot (as well as the production sound mixer). Thank you Gabe and Colin for trusting me with your vision. I learned a lot from this experience and I can’t wait to see where this all goes.
I must say that it was a long time since I've seen a pilot so good and promising. The story and the frame was nice, the cliffhanger was just perfect to make people want more of it. I hope the project will live on, because this have really great potential. Thank you for that and I wish you the best.
Come on guys.....were are the next episodes, don't let us wait? ABSOLUTELY love the pilot. The plot, actors and production is top class. Thank you. Who needs Hollywood!!!
Other than the fact that he walks and talks like a robot, Robbie is perfectly believable as a high school student. Seriously though, I loved the film. Can't wait to see episode 2. 🙂
I've always been uniquely fascinated with the psychological implications of giving our technology human-like qualities. There's no inherent *need* for our virtual assistants to have personalities, and yet, with each update, they receive more programmed quirks to sell the illusion of their humanity. But what happens when a machine wants to define that humanity for itself? While writing Humanized, I aimed primarily to highlight that relatable sentiment of trying to find yourself. However, with each draft, the show transformed into a vessel for so much more than that. Beyond identity and technology, it’s the story of loss, guilt, friendship, vulnerability, family, fear, and more. Through the show’s sterile, sci-fi sheen, I hope this overall heart still shines through
PLEASE reassure me that there's more!! Im already waay too emotionally invested. The ongoing conversations about AI have generally missed a very important talking point - and I'm so glad it's at the heart of this narrative! Of course I could be way off, but when the world is pondering the future of AI & machine learning, it's like we've all forgotten that the nature of learning is inextricably from the inherent - yet often overlooked - function of Teaching. As we look around the world today, the role of teachers threatened into obsolescence by people who care not but for themselves. And AI - it's nearly infinite capacity to improve lives, to curb destruction & help us & our planet heal... and evolve... I'm positive Asimov, would agree to add the following caveat to his rule: machines should learn, but WE must teach them. Again, congrats. This show has the potential to get the message thru to a large audience - all the while being very PKD-esque... FANTASTIC
Amazing short film. Loved it as a whole, loved the side stories, loved the theme, really. Please, I hope to see your name on other cinematic masterpieces in the future.
Where did you find the school building? Schools haven't used concrete block like that since the 1950's. Nice touch . Walking out of the school scene is epic
Wow! That was very good. I loved the writing, acting, sets, wardrobe, lighting and score. You guys nailed every aspect. The camera work was really on point for the subject material and it all fit together so well that I am going to be expecting some more greatness to follow this pilot from you all soon! More please!
Charming and frightening at the same time. How to describe it? Whew! A little Dr. Frankenstein; a touch of AI phobia; a hint of #5 from Short Circuit and a dash of M5 from Star Trek (the original series). I mean, how to deal with a solid-state mind? What and how do you teach him? How to give him real-life and real-time experiences? Can he reach conclusions which would be greater than the sum of what he was taught? And what happens when he calculates that he is more than his creator, or more than the humans he interacts with? And what about judgement qualities? How would he be programmed to show mercy, or make exceptions? Then there is aging...everyone else grows up, grows old and dies, but he does not? This production raises an infinitude of questions, some of which are already being asked. I eagerly look forward to new material from these very talented people.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you picked up on some of the threads we hinted at in the pilot - It’s all part of why we found Robbie to be such an interesting character. We really hope we get to make more and engage with those questions head on in future episodes. From our season outline, I’d think you’d be pleased!
Love dust shows and this one has some top acting, I love the whole concept, the whole turing test so humans can't tell he's not real, but then again he's becoming self aware to is very cool, and that his creator/mum hating this fact that he's becoming independent, the whole contradiction in this, what humans do every day, try and control. I'd Love to see a part two to this.
I have to say.... This is amazing. Far better than most of the shows, especially the Scifi ones, that are on tv now... I love to know how this one works out. I'd be a regular watching this series !!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Well made, and well done. On a side note, the size of that home of their in this short made me immediately believe they were the villains of the story, regardless of what their creation had done.
@@knock3x that’s Key Taw (Cyberfairy), they won “Best Supporting Performance” at Seriesfest 2023 for this role when we were there! I’m so glad you liked it!
this movie raises one of the most important questions of all time .... are turtlenecks ugly. In short, yes they are, always, they are hideous and an insult to fashion in all 1075 known human styles. Turtlenecks will never be fashionable or OK to wear. I'm glad this movie proved this.
Wow, you guys raise, and demonstrates, a truly existential question : are teen-agers fashion victims ? Show this to a sailor, and he'll answer : you bet your sweet they are ! Subsidiary question : are they fashion beacons ? Please allow us to differ... 😅
There are many possibilities of where the story goes next. We are hoping the show gets picked up so we may continue to explore these characters and their plots!

Very, very cool!!
Great job!
Who bought this pilot
You really left me wanting more. I almost never see things anymore that I would want to watch further, but this I really do.
Did not feel like 27 minutes, loved this pilot

Terrible, absolutely terrible that this isn't a series. Well done! I really want, no NEED, to see what happens next. Brilliant.
Same here! I found myself really invested and needing to know more. ❤
It is…
Agreed
As she is acting more robotic than the robot boy I expect to have a big reveal.
It says it is a series
This is my favorite "DUST" production so far. I find myself wanting more of the story. Please make more!
So glad you enjoyed! We're all hoping to get an opportunity to tell the rest of this story!
This needs to be picked up by a streaming service ASAP!!!
Thank you for your interest! That is the hope🤞
Yeah, but they must have an update for the chip produced in the basement because that is laughable.
@@elenabob4953 It didn't actually say it was produced in the basement although that is where it was currently in the timeline.

Bravo! 👏 And congratulations to everyone involved. One the best things I’ve seen on Dust. I really hoped you get to make it into a full series.

That's scary!

I am very happy to have been part of this project. Definitely a favorite of mine
