  • W013 is a continuously-welded rail train hauling 24 segments of rail that are each about 1 mile long. At the end of the train is a caboose, painted bright orange for better visibility (at least when it was new). This caboose was built for the B&O Railroad and now serves as a standing platform for train crews when the train runs in reverse. CSXTs 4031, 4025, and 8368 are all SD40 variants with modern upgrades on the first two units. Seeing three SD40s pull a train may have been a common sight 30 years ago, but it's rare to see these days.
"And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” (Luke 2:8-11, NIV).
    Merry Christmas!
    Thank you for watching.

My special needs son really likes cabooses like that one he thinks that the railroads should have kept the caboose in service on the end of freight trains by just installing the flashing rear end device onto the caboose instead of replacing it.

I like cabooses as well, and I wish they were more common. The flashing light isn't as iconic! Nowadays, cabooses are most commonly seen on trains that need to move backwards for long distances so the conductor has a place to stand (this is why cabooses can be referred to as "shoving platforms").
