  • The all electric Nissan eNV200 24kWh 6.6kw Acenta van , we supplied this over 5 years ago with just 10 miles, now its just turned 100,000 miles with SOS office supplies here on Orkney.
Is it ready to be thrown away ?
Would running a Diesel NV200 have been cheaper ?
Details of the Octopus Energy referral where you and I get a £50 credit for switching to Octopus is here share.octopus.energy/metal-ho...
Thanks for watching and please share this video so van drivers can see how much they will save over a diesel and 100,000 miles !
Huge thanks to @inksharkman who did the final edit on this video and all the cool graphics, contact him on Twitter for details of the service he offers .

My eNv200 is approching 70000miles. Had a bit over 60K on it when we bought it. Mine has roofbars on and stocked with tools & parts, so tend to be around 3.7MileskWh. Our old diesel averaged 13.5pmile for fuel (ignoring sericing etc) the electric 3.5pmile. on 14pkWh tarrif. Best thing abou it is how much more relaxing it is to drive! Particularly at the end of a busy day, or in heavy traffic etc.

Fuel injectors don't usually fail under 100k miles. I've had diesel cars with over 200k on the original injectors. DPF for a Peugeot can easily last 170k miles, a new one is £110. Turbo's can easily last over 250k miles. What you didn't calculate is the depreciation costs, which is not the same diesel vs electric.

    • @Wookey.

Yeah, new injectors was a bit harsh, but the general point that there is a load more stuff to go wrong is fair. In practice most of it will go wrong _after_ 5 years/100K.

You can count your filters and injectors whichever way you want - the fact is all diesels stink and I don’t want any near my house and kids. My neighbour had 8 yrs old Ford Focus and each time he fired up at 6:30 AM I could smell his fumes in the bedroom, even with windows closed.

@Wolfgang Preier lol the Cybertruck is a pickup no where near the capacity of a van! And you can buy a EV van now the Cybertruck is years away. Most who use the Nissan EV van use it in the city where range is less important. Also Nissan EV van costs £20,000 vs no real data on true cost of Cybertruck but expect it to cost at least £40,000. So sort of out of most people's price point for a EV van!

It's a city van! Also it's already paid it's purchase price and then some in fuel savings alone, yes in time it will need a new battery but in time the diesel will need a complete overhaul! The difference is that the EV owner will have saved another £16,000 in costs after another 5 years which can be used to buy a brand new EV and by then newer EV will be much cheaper and have much better even longer lasting batteries, just look at Tesla with their upcoming 1 million mile battery!

As soon as the battery pack needs replaced, and that cost is close to the value of the vehicle, it'll get broken/crushed regardless of its condition. Enjoyed the video with the exception the costs for the diesel and electric were hypothetical. I have operated a small fleet and when it comes to cost there is the yearly cost then the actual cost when the vehicle is replaced with depreciation and all repairs, insurance, licences etc. Live in Canada and many years back when diesel pick-ups were gaining popularity I replaced two vehicles per year, one petrol, one diesel and kept detailed costs. On yearly costs with just fuel diesels considerably cheaper. The overall operating of the four vehicles at the end of four years when replaced was not as high as I had been led to believe. I did standardise on the diesel as their was a cost saving but almost half of what I had been led to believe. Have to run the vehicles side by side then figure in the true costs for everything from purchase price to trade in value.
And this is where this video falls short in my mind. We are talking delivery vehicles and it should have been possible to have all costs for each one detailed. No estimates or saying this is what it may have cost for diesel or electricity. There should have been actual costs. I'm sure the electric would still have been the cheaper to operate but would it have been the same amount. And a clutch replacement in 160,000K?? I would be replacing the driver and maybe considering switching to an automatic.
At my age I don't think it will be a concern for me. There is going to be a time when the government is going to start putting taxes against electric vehicles. They have to pay for the road maintenance and new construction some how. In Canada a large portion of that revenue comes from the per litre tax we pay on fuel. And it will hit electric vehicles eventually. Same as it did for propane fuelled vehicles in Canada. One time using propane saved a lot of money when enough got converted they put a road tax on propane and within a few short years there was hardly anyone converting.
Will watch Richter's video now and see what his figures are.

Not sure what you are getting at? All fuel diesel, petrol have road tax. Eventually when the government realises how much they are missing in road tax they will add a tax to electric vehicles. As for the damage to the roads yes heavy trucks do the most damage but all road users have to pay their share.

So the true cost savings when including purchase costs are about £5 grand when you compare the eNV200 with the NV250 both have 4.2 square metres of space. I wonder what the secondhand sale prices would be when you compare a EV to a Deisel. It was difficult, but I found 1 eNV200 20,000 miles £18k and a Deisel NV200 Crew Van at 18,000 miles £12k. Crew van tend to be more, so even in this comparison the eNV200 comes out at £6k higher in value. Total savings would be £11k hmmm. With an electric car with an average battery size of 60kwh winter and cloud makes charging a car almost pointless!

Here in Greece you also have to figure in the transmission costs per KWHour. The government which owns the transmission system tripled their prices for transmission fees for the grid after they were forced to sell off most of their power generating systems. There is also the VAT theft tax of 24% here on electric and grid fees.
What are these fees in the region where this vehicle works for transmission grid and taxes???
Here on the island of Crete it is profitable to instal ones own PV array with a 2KW wind turbine and LiFepo battery storage. Payback will come in approxamately 6 years. All the time you have no grid fees, taxes, surcharge for the government owned TV channels ( about as bad at the illegal British TV license) as well as the electricity. Another plus is there is very little down time due to grid problems one finds with a hob knobbed antiquated grid system.

    For exemple :
For a ioniq 28 it's not necessary but for a car or a van consume more energy I think it's necessary to have full battery every morning.
I have a new Vivaro-e 75kWh for work with is basic original 3 pin charger (1,65kW/h) he charge at 3,75miles par hour, that's ridiculous.
In 10 hours that's give me only 37,5 miles every night.
The ioniq 28 was charging at 2,3kW par hour, with battery empty in 12-13 hours the battery was full.
We had yet an E-C4 witch consume about 30% more energy to do same milage and charge 30% slower.
The Vivaro consume about twice or more as ioniq 28 and power charge is 30% slower.
Result I have to buy a box (cost) an upgrade the power of home.
