I love when he drives and his face lights up like a kid on Christmas. It’s so genuine, and captures every emotion we all feel when we get behind the wheel and enjoy our toys
Yes, it just looks... Just... "Sassy"...! But 911 is more of a 'driver's car', a SERIOUS one at that and I respect that... And you should too, mate...!
the cayman is a better design. Mid-engine is just inherently superior to the 911's rear engine. The only reason this isn't the "best" Porsche is because the 911 is their marquee. If they put new 911 GT3 in a mid-engine cayman platform that would be a way better car than any current 911...it's all done in the name of profitability and brand.
El Salvador agree and the top gear guys concluded that the Cayman was probably better than the 911 if only Porsche stopped restraining it so the 911 would be the flagship. The GT4 answers that question by being the less restrained Cayman that has car enthusiasts raving about its handling and performance.
The cayman's design looks great but I don't like the top of the car being too round, I love boxster's design more, it would be great if there was a boxster GT4
I love the fact that unlike a lot of car manufacturers, Porsche focuses on weight as much as they do a big engine. So many automakers (especially American) get a 2 ton car and slap a massive V8 or V10 in it and call it a day. But lighter cars are 10x more fun, even if they are slower.
That is great news! Don't get me wrong, I've been very happy with your old videos, but better audio will certainly be nice and will make your videos even more enjoyable.
This is what the 2020 Toyota Supra should have been, but isn't. Greatness 2.0 And I love that is says "GT4" everywhere, and "Cayman" nowhere. Thank you, :Porsche!
I am glad you made this review! The Cayman is SUCH a good car, you nailed it right on the head, it is what the 911 used to be and why the 911 became so iconic before it changed. I love my Cayman S, enough to make me start a youtube channel based mostly around my Cayman. Thanks for this Video!
What I like about Mr Demuro is that he is completely car review first. Not interested in "cool" music, doesn't wear yeezy, and in most cases gives a cut and dry opinion of the vehicles he is reviewing. The man stands (physically) BEHIND ever vehicle presented whether he likes it or not. Respect to the builder. The guy just dwarfs any other car blogger by far. The clear difference between wealth and riches.. I don't expect many to understand this rationale although it might be why he has the following that he has without them even knowing it.. if I had to sum up his legacy in one word I would describe my Demuro memories as wholesome. And you don't get that much in the automotive industry. Keep on trucking Sir D!!
Doug please make a column on how you let me ride in your Aston for like 5 minutes and how we didn't go above 10 MPH... I'm sorry. It was just such a memorable experience. Can't stop thinking about it😂😂👌🏼👌🏼
I love this channel, my first laugh in under 15 secs for today. I honestly visit here for the humour first, and the car review/hate/fun later. You seriously need to go London and have a colab with Mat Watson.
Doug great review...I love my GT4 !!! Still doing meticulous break in and even my wife loves the carbon buckets the road you were driving on are the same as my daily commute only downside will be putting it away up here in Canada for the winter!!
Bob Nickson thermal expansion during the factory testing is not an issue, that is why. running on the road requires break in because of higher wear from higher temperatures.
hellobooom , why would the temperatures be higher on the road? I don't know about the factory test he is talking about but if it's not being driven on a road or track (I.e. Rolling road test bed), I'd actually think the temps would be higher. I do think break in could be a myth in some cases and not others. Metallurgy is so variable. maybe in some cases it behooves you to drive the car like it's stolen from the 1st mile where and others you should baby it. But I want to see data on this.
Most all Porsche owners are constantly smiling.... The Cayman is a pure joy. I have a 2008 Cayman S and a 2017 Macan GTS. Driving anywhere in either of these vehicles is fun and satisfying. I loved your enthusiasm reviewing this car.
This is the only video where you smiling all the time during test drive. Looks like you can't help it. That alone speaks for itself. Looks like a lovely car indeed.
HAHAHAHA WHERE CAN I READ BOUT THE CARS daddy demuro??? IF ONLY THERE WAS A COLUMN HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OMG HOW MANY TIMES AM I GONNA TELL THIS JOKE??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
oh sir I do believe you misspoke. The 997 was the very best model of the water cooled generation, and was smaller than the 996. it is bigger than the 993 but smaller than the 991 still. Loved this review. Keep them coming! You've been cranking the vids out and it's much appreciated.
I agree with Doug on the Cayman GT cars. I am a long time 911 owner and have a 991.1. I absolutely love my car but will say after driving a Cayman GTS, left a smile on my face and reminded me of the 911's of old. I would imagine that the GT4 would give even a better feeling once driven. IMO, the only other which would rival the GT4 are the 911 R, GT3 or GT3 RS!
I absolutely love what Porshe is doing right now. They don't care about 0-60 times, fancy dual clutch gearboxes, and better specs on paper. They just allowed the option of a manual on the 911, and it sold out instantly. The new 911R is manual, no fancy computers and sound proofing. You hear every bang and clank, like in an old car.
Thank you Doug for exposing the 911 as a school bus or something like a 1970's Riviera for heaven's sake! The Cayman along with the Audi TTRS are perfect sportscars.
Would you pick the Cayman Gt4 or the corvette Z06? Basically the same price, I think. Best no goofball shenanigans review I've seen from you in a while. Thanks man.
GR JerryPK while the vette may be a better performer, the Porsche is more unique, probably holds its value better, and isnt made of shit quality materials. Like your typical american plastics.
Except the Corvette is actually a viable contender that goes head to head with cars that cost 10s of thousands more. And the GT is legendary in the field of racing. And the Viper TA fought McLarens and 918s on nurburgring. Heck, the Focus RS is a reasonably quick track car for under 50 grand. If you think America only has the hellcats and Camaros, then I think some horizon broadening is in order.
The regular vette can't keep up with this and the guy at NJMP with a c7z would overheat after 5 minutes on track. Focus RS wouldn't touch it. The ACR and the GT are another story though.
yeah, but I would think that he might talk about owning the car instead of just mentioning it fast and unclearly, and the video just said driving the best car not owning
I have a 2.7 with 19's on I absofuckinlutely love it ! Would love to afford a gt4 but for where I am and what I do I'm not sure I'd benefit from extra it could give 😉
Nice whip, I have yet to see one of these on the road. I like how Porsche kept it simple with the Cayman GT4, a 6 speed manual with a clutch, no frills, the way it's supposed to be with a sports car...
I'm a fan of both, PDK & 6M. My 15 Golf R has 6M and just went through my 1st clutch. $3k not fun. My Audi A4 S line was awesome & super quick. Loved the dual clutch and speed it could obtain and crisp shifts. My next car will be PDK Caymen S, or if blessed the GT4. Toying with the idea of a ZL1 however it's a large car. I'm used to small cars such as my Golf R & A4.
I remember i used to be obsessed with the g37 ipl coupe and constantly watching videos of it, it was my dream car. Now that i actually own one i cant stop watching videos of porsches... The cycle never ends
I'm a valet, some guy came and valeted this car, they said it was a little weird and I stalled it, then he parked it himself, I missed out on "driving" this car into a parking space a few feet away and I was bummed.
chili24137 Huh, who said it was a little weird, it's a 6 speed manual with a clutch, it's not a German tank, the guy probably knew that one of you would jack up his clutch, better to be safe than sorry...
I've had five 911's including a 993 Turbo and a 997 GT3, but this is the best Porsche I've owned. What would I change? Shorter gearing (which everyone agrees), and in a perfect world I would pay extra for a 3.8 GT3 motor - the 997.2 engine would be perfect. The engine cover would need to be raised for the intake, so make it glass to see the motor!
This review is phenomenal, and the things he describes are the reasons why I continue to own a 951. I'm not rich enough for a GT4, but I can still have the Cayman of its time--a truly great, rewarding driver's car.
Would argue that the GT4 is a better in this case. It dosen't have the problems of rear engine that the 911 does and it's center of gravity is much lower giving it a far better feel on the road.. If you only care about lap times and accelerations the 911R will probably win.
I was returning from a trip out west and was pulled over twice by cops. Both times there were no tickets. The first was a mistake and the second to comment on my licence plate. The second cop said I was driving a beautiful. I thanked him and went on my way. What great car.
Stop giving this car good reviews or it will appreciate even more in value, and I'd like to think I'll own one eventually!
GT4 sucks

I don't care if the 911 is better. I just love the style and looks of the Cayman.
Yes, it just looks... Just... "Sassy"...!
But 911 is more of a 'driver's car', a SERIOUS one at that and I respect that... And you should too, mate...!
the cayman is a better design. Mid-engine is just inherently superior to the 911's rear engine. The only reason this isn't the "best" Porsche is because the 911 is their marquee. couldn't agree more, driving experience of 911 is much better than cayman/boxster.
“The Cayman GT4 is what the 911 used to be.” 😌👌🏻
It's better. It's got MR layout
I'm picking mine up this week and found this video and I'm loving it even more, thank you Doug
what the heck is up with the audio?
This is my last video with my crappy old microphones. No more bad audio going forward!
No crappy mic anymore?
Blasphemy!
Praise the Lawd!!!!!!!!! You could do a video just about the mic update and Im sure it would be the most successful video on your channel :)
That is great news! Don't get me wrong, I've been very happy with your old videos, but better audio will certainly be nice and will make your videos even more enjoyable.

Greatness 2.0
And I love that is says "GT4" everywhere, and "Cayman" nowhere.
Thank you, :Porsche!
Not really. Supra is front engine sort of Japanese muscle...
Nathan Chase it's not as if the new supra does any of that either sadly..

Did Doug just get a new Microphone for the voice overs? Wohooooo
He did. I think he mentioned it on Twitter
The is a stunning car. I'm a fan of the cayman shape and this is just brilliant.
Doug, you should really invest in a decent camera-microphone setup. Love your content though !

I am def going to read this one. I love the GT4

I like seeing some exterior views of Doug driving the car.. some of his videos don't show so much outside views of the car in motion.

His eyes get so small when he's smiling. Makes me wonder how they haven't crashed yet.
he almost did crash in a dodge challenger
Yeah, he didn't expect that much power.
Well, it handles significantly better comparing to the previous Challenger.
Doug great review...I love my GT4 !!! Still doing meticulous break in and even my wife loves the carbon buckets the road you were driving on are the same as my daily commute only downside will be putting it away up here in Canada for the winter!!
Break in? Wow did you really miss the memo that "break in" is a myth? Porsche ran your car flat-out before you even got it...
Bob Nickson thermal expansion during the factory testing is not an issue, that is why. running on the road requires break in because of higher wear from higher temperatures.
Bob Nickson wow you didn't get that memo did you.
hellobooom , why would the temperatures be higher on the road? I don't know about the factory test he is talking about but if it's not being driven on a road or track (I.e. Rolling road test bed), I'd actually think the temps would be higher.

Doug, the type of guy who practiced laughing in the mirror before this intro.
Was this the first THIS Doug video 😦
I agree with Doug on the Cayman GT cars. I am a long time 911 owner and have a 991.1. I absolutely love my car but will say after driving a Cayman GTS, left a smile on my face and reminded me of the 911's of old. Thank you Doug for exposing the 911 as a school bus or something like a 1970's Riviera for heaven's sake! The Cayman along with the Audi TTRS are perfect sportscars.
lets start a funding campaign so doug can get a new mic
Dear god Doug, please get a better mic.
He said in a reply to another comment this is his last video with the old crappy mic.
Such a beautiful car... Porsche has been KILLIN the game for over 20 years!
I saw one of these in the flesh. It was a dark metallic burgundy color. So gorgeous.
Would you pick the Cayman Gt4 or the corvette Z06? Basically the same price, I think. Best no goofball shenanigans review I've seen from you in a while. Thanks man.
GR JerryPK my dream car is the gt4 so that is what I would choose
GR JerryPK GT4. more fun. 7 spd manual in Vette? wtf is it a dump truck?
GR JerryPK while the vette may be a better performer, the Porsche is more unique, probably holds its value better, and isnt made of shit quality materials. Like your typical american plastics.
650 hp Z06 no brainer
And this is why your cheaper American car that "goes faster" will never actually be better.
lol of course not but they're fucking awesome
+sjpro1 why are you comparing a regular corvette to a non-regular Porsche?
Phuncky Phresh I'm responding to vernon 682's comment but the new comment system sucks.
That rational and reasonable car journalist laugh hehehehe.... A+
2016 911 GT 3 RS is my dream car. specifically the purple color. just stunning
Unlike some Porsches, I find this one to be beautiful as well.
anyone notice he says "this is one of the best cars I've ever driven" in almost every video?
very very few he does say that
The straps were "designed to save weight". . . generations ago for the RS and R models. I think the straps are there mostly for nostalgia.
10 Seconds in and Doug's cackling. This gonna be good.
Did he borrow it from the host from everyday driver?
did he say that he bought the car from a viewer?
I mean who wouldn't?
yeah, but I would think that he might talk about owning the car instead of just mentioning it fast and unclearly, and the video just said driving the best car not owning
ok, that makes more sense
so who was it
Borrowed it
I happily bought a 2016 GT4 October 2018. I can't wait to take her out of winter storage.
His Gonzo impression is coming along nicely.
I have a 2.7 with 19's on I absofuckinlutely love it ! Would love to afford a gt4 but for where I am and what I do I'm not sure I'd benefit from extra it could give 😉
You really should make a proper full length video with the gt4
Rational and reasonable car journalist! We luv Dugg!
Nice whip, I have yet to see one of these on the road. I like how Porsche kept it simple with the Cayman GT4, a 6 speed manual with a clutch, no frills, the way it's supposed to be with a sports car...
Please get a new mic Doug
He mentioned that this is his last video with the old mic.
You should for sure go on Joe Rogan's podcast if you can

um no

I think a 997 GT3 RS 4.0 is the greatest Porsche since the Carrera GT

The gearbox ratios are awful in the GT4. It's a perfect car besides the gearbox ratios
It sounds so amazing !!
One of the few cars that always receives praise. Its gorgeous to boot as well.

suck it bitches

Doug, c'mon dude no Porsche guy calls the GT4 a Cayman GT4 they call it a GT4. Free tip from a friendly viewer
That ending statement was extremely ballsy, I couldn't agree more.
"Borrowed it from a reader"
I love it! Hopefully one day.. Would be a nice upgrade on my 981 S
This review is phenomenal, and the things he describes are the reasons why I continue to own a 951. I'm not rich enough for a GT4, but I can still have the Cayman of its time--a truly great, rewarding driver's car.
Which one is better, the Cayman GT4 or the 911 R?
911 R by far
GT4 because maybe you will drive one in your life
911 r is the best but they are going for over a million now lol
GT3 RS 4.0 - 997.2
Would argue that the GT4 is a better in this case. It dosen't have the problems of rear engine that the 911 does and it's center of gravity is much lower giving it a far better feel on the road.. If you only care about lap times and accelerations the 911R will probably win.
Yeah that's smart move, put 10 pounds navigation system but in order to lose weight put fabric door handle to save 0,2 pounds.
I was returning from a trip out west and was pulled over twice by cops. Both times there were no tickets. The first was a mistake and the second to comment on my licence plate. The second cop said I was driving a beautiful. I thanked him and went on my way. What great car.
