    AWESOME!!! This exact same issue has been driving me nuts! I was trying to trouble shoot without a reader by replacing and testing other parts and was 2 more steps/parts away from getting to the coil packs being the culprit when i saw this. So thanks for the great quality vid. This will save me alot of time and money. 👍

    Hmm I im curious if all the misfires burns up the module in the PCM(ECU/DME) mine doesnt read misfires and I'm eliminating causes this week. I think the OBD systems in GM vehicles has been a game of following the leader and being behind in development.

    Yep that did it replaced one pack and went for a test drive and my tires were chirpin effortlessly. Also no longer struggles to get up to speed when im getting on the freeway. Going to replaced the other pack tomorrow after work, the store only had 1 in stock so I figured id just buy one to see if anything changed and this little 2.2l feels like shes full of life again.

    Hey Ron so have an s10 4.3L any thoughts on what may be causing a multiple cylinder misfire only under like hill type load runs fine until trying to put a bigger load on the engine have pretty much replaced all ignition and fuel system in previous years except injectors, I have put on on an aftermarket cat like 9 years ago, I have also had one cylinder 3 code and bank 1 3rd o2 sensor? Code I believe, replaced that one after the cat and haven't had that code since any ideas on what you would test for? Thanks

    2003 s10 v6.. problem is it starts and misfires bad, but its driveable for about 60 seconds, then it starts bogging down and dies. no power. i dont think its the cat because theres good exhaust flow. any ideas?

    I'm having this same exact problem on my S10 96 and I've replaced everything but the coil packs and the only reason I haven't replaced those because I get hot spark ...... I'm at a loss .... I just took the upper intake off and the injectors... Cleans them and reinstalled all seems well there but I still wonder if something can be wrong with the coil packs and the still spark.... I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks 🙏

    My 92 s10 cuts spark bad. I replaced the cap and rotor. Coil but nothing has fixed it. I’m thinking distributor?

    Hey Ron thx for the repair tips. I owned a 2000 s10 4.2 L v6 vortex for 15 years ran like a dream, upgraded ignition wiring battery to distributor and front end shocks rods bushings. Im now workin on a 2000 2.2L s10 that misfire loses power drinks water burns oil. Let u know if I kick it in the rear.

    When you said coil pack i yelled out "I already changed the fckn coil packs" then you mentioned they had been changed before, and I was like "oh... its not just me, come to think of it, it has been 2 years since I replaced them" lol

    When I go 2 give my truck any amount of gas in drive, park, or reverse it missfires and sounds like a 2 step is thr best way I can describe it and will not pull itself..... But idols fine pls help

    that's the exact same thing my 03 2.2 S10 is doing, I have done everything else under the sun and it's still running like crap and I'm a mechanic myself, so I'm fixing to change the coil pack and hopefully it will fix it, if not this time next week it's gonna have a LS platform under the hood

      @@theurbanloner8879 I had the exact same problem. It ended up being my spark plug wires. I also did my coil packs. If you are having this issue do the coil packs, wires, and spark plugs all at the same time. If your mechanic is fair and takes into account that by doing all 3 of these things at the same time it will make the job much faster, you should be able to to do all of this work for under 300$ in most places.

    My 95 s10 2.2 miss fires about 10 minutes or 4 to 5 miles back fires at about shift lite range would you change coils .oh it cold starts no check or service light until miss fires help me fix this issue please 🙏

    i have that problem too. i changed one coil pack and still a misfire so i swapped the coil i replaced and still the problem exist. do i have to change both coil packs? or could it be the base that it sits on may be the problem.

    As an adjunct issue.... these trucks apparently like to slowly eat throttle position sensors, which cause odd problems when they're marginal and won't set codes.
    I'm on my third. First one wore through it's tracks in little spots and taking off from a stop or on very light throttle, it would suddenly buck like it backfired and lurch, once hard enough the tires chirped. No codes, ever. Spidey sense and troubleshooting led me to realizing it was only at very specific and repeatable throttle input, so... there it was.
    Second one apparently wore a diagonal track and led one of the contacts off the trace entirely while grooving the other two. That one suddenly decided anything over 10% throttle was only going to receive idle fuel, which both made it a little hard to drive home and was blisteringly obvious given there were, again, no codes, and TPS sensors had failed before at around the mileage it had on it (180K on the first one, 150K on the second one).
    You should be able to pick up the issue with an analog multimeter, patience, and a sloooow right foot. Neither apparently failed to a value that was out of range, but gave a "good" false reading at specific points.

    have a 2003 s10 4x4 automatic with a 4.3, having similiar problems. will start up and run smooth and then starts dieseling with a popping sound coming out of the exhaust and then no power. the truck did sit in my back driveway for 2 years. checked for codes and have none to be seen. going to replace cap and rotor and my coil packs

    May end up having to give you a call. I’m up in Moreno Valley And my 2000 Chevy S 10 four cylinder 2.2 L is misfiring like crazy. I change the plugs last week, but when I pulled cylinder one and two, the plug wires looked arked. Change those out all the way to the coils. I go a few days and it’s running perfect my fuel mileage has gone up. And Bam! Starts running like crap all over again. I checked and the number two plug wire is melted on the same spot as the original. I suspect that something to do with the exhaust manifold possibly having a leak? Or do I need to go with a more higher heat rated plug wire?

    i had a misfire but turns out my last spark plug wire snapped in half .... i changed o2 sensor, both coil packs , and put some new wires and now my baby is back .

    my random misfire is sporatic even though it seems to have lost its ummph for a while before it got to this point it will backfire in either the exhaust or intake I can't tell which because it only does it while I am driving it once in a while I smell gas but have never seen any leaking anywhere.

    im having exaclty the same problem wish to do a video for you, i own a interro osciloscope, and everything seems to be normal i did install a used coil that i had in my truck and did not took care of the problem i will try to replace both coils with new and let you know, the truck im working on is a 97 chevy s-10 2.2.

    hi, i got the message misfire detected in cylinder 3 and a week later the message multiple misfires detected on my s10 from '99. it used to run bether when the engine was warm and run bad on rainy days.but now in dry weather it's also bad.same problem? my exhaust fumes smell a bit with gasoline.thinking of changing sparkplug wires?

      coil packs or crankshaft position sensor. I'd change both.

    I hope this fixes my misfires its coming up as a P0300 too many random misfires and I hope that's it. Also my truck doesn't like starting after not been run for a while (like after 6 hours) and the fuel pump was just replaced for an AC delco. But with one small spray of starter fluid it starts right up and will keep the engine running till next morning. Any ideas on that? Its a 4.3

      95 here, runs like ass and no power up hills or under load / acceleration unless i baby the hell out of it. Did this fix yours? I just changed my coils maybe 2 years ago.

    My 2001 Chevrolet S10 has no power when running when outside temperatures are above 90 degrees. Truck after it cools do will start back up and runs ok. Where is ICM control module located? And do you think it is the problem.

      +Karen Simonetti ignition control module is located under the coil packs. Cant answer weather or not it is the problem.

    I have a 99 s10 with the 2.2 auto trans it does the same sound like that but I have a glass pack on it and it’s bugging me because it started getting warmer out the whole electrical system has bin going weird. At time it starts then dies and I go to crank it back up and all it does is crank and barely starts back up. And today it did wanna start and I got it running and it died out when I put it in gear but it started back up and it was like bogging out do u know what would cause these this to happen?

    I own a 2000 s10, I put seafoam in the tank,now my engine is running choppy and you can definitely tell by the way it sounds, and it stinks it's also throwing a bit of black smoke. what's the problem. I have over 227,000+ miles on it by the way.

      Check your catylic converter, it may be bad. Also sounds like the coil packs or crankshaft position sensor.

    On my s10 the block is puking oil all over the packs, hard start runs rough. I thought it was just the wires arcing because of the burn marks. I'll see it it gets any better after this. My truck is a POS with pretty paint outside... I miss my ford...

    PLEASE HELP ! I have a 1990 s10 2.8 do same thing. Bucking on acceleration...4 shops have no clue. I changed every sensor,fuel pump,fuel filter,distributor, coil,plugs, wires,IAC,TPS,MAP,O2,CHECKED CAT,TB GASKET,FUEL PRESSURE REG,INJECTORS,EGR. And thats off the top of my head. I have had trouble with top coolant temp sensor and that was weird...changed twice because one shop said he had a weird reading on scanner(plus I just changed wire connector to it today). Like you said...you experienced s10 guys have that magic in your hat. Whats your thoughts? Please dont tell me to lift radiator cap and replace truck underneath. HAHA! I love my little truck . All of the problems came out of nowhere. Someone said timing chain but after she warms up she idles nice...but she still bucks when I am shifting gears. I even bought the snap-on brick 2500 but no codes. I would be soooooo grateful for your input.

    Hi, Ron. I have 97 Chevy S10 2.2l overheated, I have replaced the heat gasket along other gaskets, the truck still misfire and looks like vacuum leak. All 1-4 cylinder pressure tested 150+ psi and back pressure test no leak I installed all new fuel pump, filter, injectors, spark plugs, plug wire, coils and coil igniter, map sensors, fuel regulator, idle air control, clean fuel, 8 new lifters, timing chain is right and has no code. Please help thanks.

      Ron Williams hi Ron, I have a 03’ zr2, 4.3 with the same problem. Took it to a shop. They replaced distributor cap and coil. Still no power going up a hill. I’m lost with this. Any suggestions would help a bunch. Thank you

    Hey Mr. Ron, I drive a 1999 S10 2.2 5 speed my problem is I got the spark plugs and stuff changed out but if I'm driving the truck began to like sputter and lose speed and sometimes all the lights come on and it'll like cut off so is this a coil pack going bad or what is it cause it's like it the same thing as it's misfiring?

    I went through this with mine. replaced everything but the ignition module because its $300. It turned out to be the cam position sensor. It ran great until pulling a hill then it would spit n sputter.

    I replaced my coils, wires, and plugs and it still runs terrible. Could it be an oxygen sensor? Its next on my list it is a 2000 Sanoma 2.2 liter engine. It probably needs replaced anyway.

    I had replaced spark plugs wires and coil. Problem still. It shows misfire 3rd cylinder. I’m crying. 😭. Hooo I’m sure spark coming out from the wire. Should I replaced the injector?

    Okay we have installed a new catalytic converter, the old one was shot, it must have gotten destroyed by my very rich condition.
    My truck is still running way to rich, short term fuel trim is at -20 in park at idle.
    When I put my defrosters on the short term fuel trim goes back up to 0?
    I took it for a test drive. After about 10 minutes oxygen sensor one stopped reading it went from 750 to 0 and held. Oxygen sensor 2 went from 450 to 200 (that one is after the cat). I was at 60 mph and I started feeling power loss (acceleration).
    I got it home and I heard whistling coming from the new cat.
    I turned it off let it all coll down then I started it back up whistling in cat was there than it kinda went away and now my oxygen sensors are reading again.
    Short term fuel trim, still at -20 running rich?
    So the trucks running really rich, dumping in to much fuel which appears to foul up my o2 sensors and cat fast, what is the likely culprit?
    Vacuum leak
    stuck injector
    something else
    what should I be looking for?

    didnt fix mine... first I replaced the tps, then the map sensor, then the fuel filter, then the ait sensor. then just did the coils. still gets erratic tach, no power above about 25mph, no code,no engine light. the wires didnt come with the kit as expected so I guess I see after I put on new wires! argh

    I guess this guy dosen't check his youtube e-mails. Any ways, I had the same problem with my 01 s-10 2.2L . I replaced the coil packs and the crankshaft position sensor and it runs like new again....

      i do check my emails. i cant respond to every question. his question for one thing had nothing to do the video posted. second he is asking advise about a problem that is not easily diagnosed without seeing the vehicle in person. otherwise i could just tell him like you just did to throw parts at it because that fixed someone elses truck with or without the same problem.
      my professional opinion is, why in the hell would you put seafoam in your gas tank? I've never had to use it in a customer's car or any of my cars in the 30 years I've been doing this. next since the problem occurred after adding the seafoam and the fuel goes straight through the injectors and now he's blowing black smoke. my guess is that it messed up an injector but I can't tell him that because I'm not there to diagnose it. I'm sorry I wasn't able to help.

    This sure seems to be an ongoing problem with these Chevys! Mine: 1997 Chevy S10 2.2. 4 Cylinder Manual. Has a brand new reman engine. We did brand new cat. New fuel pump. New fuel filter. New fuel injectors. New plugs. New ignition coils. New camshaft position sensor. Even put in a new computer! Still misfiring and running like a pile of shit! Only thing left is the ignition coil control module. And throttle body sensor. Wires only have about 1,000 miles on them. But may ultimately replace them as a last resort. Otherwise, I am at a complete loss as to what the hell it could be! Only codes that come up is a cylinder 3 misfire. Man, these trucks are a PITA to diagnose!

      It will eventually clog up your catalytic converter thats for sure. I drove my integra for 20k miles with a cylinder misfire and my muffler popped. Literally it was like one big backfire and when I went to go check it out, it looked like someone stuck a frag grenade in my tail pipe.

    I replaced both my coil packs and still have same issue now I have all these error codes for my 1998 Chevy S10 2.2 5 speed: P0131
    , P0132 P0133, P1133, P0137, P0138, P0140, P1171, P0401, P0420, P0440, P1441, P0442, P0446, P0106, P0112, P0134, P0141, P1380, P1381, P1404. It seems to run fine but I have no power my guess its both ECM and the Cat and perhaps some wiring issues but if anyone can help me out that would be great

    License plate doesn't matter. They show them on tv because it's no different from seeing them irl. Sure, a cop or someone with the right connections can get your name and address off it but who cares? You only need to hide the plate if you're doing something wrong

    hi, i got the message misfire detected in cylinder 3 and a week later the message multiple misfires detected on my s10 from '99. it used to run bether when the engine was warm and run bad on rainy days.but now in dry weather it's also bad.same problem? my exhaust fumes smell a bit with gasoline.thinking of changing sparkplug wires?
