I'm dumb, I know, but I wish someone would explain the menus to me.
Your website's performance is absolute shite
Not gonna lie. That's a hell lot of information you have given us in 10 minutes 0-0
Who’s here because they thought they could play the game with no guide whatsoever?
it me😂
😂💪🏾 gettin my ass whooped left and right
I’m 30 hours in, beat every soulsborne including demons and bloodborne but I’m kinda lost at this point. Do I continue 100% blind or do I continue the video?
💀💀💀
Me
This game is like learning a whole new language imo, so far it's been pretty overwhelming but trying to keep at it!
Yeah I've been running around getting owned by big monsters during the hour I've played
@@Grivian as a veteran of the entire souls series, who played DS1 before it was even released in english... I just gotta say its beautiful to see all you guys going through the same feels as we all did back then. It's part of he experience haha
Same
@@date_vape nice thanks for this comnent! That makes me feel way better! Just gotta get past the learning curve!
Same man 😂
Completely new to Souls games, I went in blind and picked Astrologer. Discovered a cave with packs of wolves and battled my way through fairly unscathed, what's so hard about this game anyway? Went through some smokey portal/door to be attacked and murdered by a werewolf wielding a giant sword. 10/10 would do again.
Same!
Just did the same thing this morning 😂
If you play melee and your new to the series, Holy hell those wolves tear you a new one.
A tip for beating him if you havent already is to use the wolf spirit summon. You can get it by visiting the church north of the starting area after visiting a certain amount of graces.
I’m on the exact same boat, tonight I feel like starting again because it’s been embarrassing on my first gameplay
Bro with all due respect, this is not a beginners guide. This is the college level 101 course when I am still learning middle school
I'm a bit late but this definitely is a perfect beginning guide
@@Jaeremiah a bit late? this shit was 2 years ago🤣
I’m just playing Elden Ring now I’ve had it in my library for over a year now and I agree, bro is spoiling everything for me so I just had to stop watching hahaha, I got lost right away and I’m on the other side of the map or something, oh well. 😅
I picked deprived (wretch) went into the game blind and ended up inside of a cave by the ocean, descended into complete darkness and was ambushed by goblins. I fought but was getting overwhelmed so with a little bit of HP left I sprinted towards some light, immediately a red hp bar appeared along with a boss and more goblins… needless to say I lost about 1,000 souls. So far 10/10 experience.
My first experience was a trapped chest that sent me into a mine with overleveled enemies lol
Bro I did exactly the same but more than 1000 😂 same cave though
This 🤣🤣🤣. This is why this/these games are perfection
I walked into that cave and noped out, I ran into those tentacle creatures outside and figured I'm not ready
Sounds about souls
I’ve never played a Souls game, so I was extremely confused entering Elden Ring. Before I learned the controls, I was already getting smashed by a boss, and I guess I took all of the wrong routes.
Welcome to the party. We've all been there. Keep at it and you will dominate the game.
you are going to die multiple times regardless of route you take. right, wrong, early or late in the game
same so i bought dark souls 3, 3 days ago and managed to finish it last night, hopefully i can go into elden ring and smash it now
Don't listen to the fanboy's.
Information is key for survival in a souls game.
You'll also butcher np'c quest lines if you don't know exactly where to be during specific moments in the game.
Enemy are unforgiving even the knight guys
Step #1 for all new players: learn how to manage stamina. Understand what does and doesn't effect it. Understand that it fills up on its own, but not if you are swinging your weapons around like a mad person. And it fills faster if you lower your shield.
thanks for the tip!
So like every other game basically lmao
@@patbrewster479 Word. This comment was meant for souls-like noobs though. It's one of the first complaints I see from new players. They just don't understand how stamina works.
@@thebarbaryghostsf lmao it explains itself, huh I wonder what stamina is 🤣😂
That was something I was beginning to understand when I went back to tree sntinal I even did some crouching for that extra boost
I just got it literally a hour ago and I have to say I'm 100% lost. I have no clue where to go or what to do and that is what brought me here. At first I was like WTF I just wasted $60 and I'm not the type of person to give up on any game so I said let me watch some video that could possibly help me. This will be the first game I've played where I'm going to need all the wikis and research available to actually help me which has me changing my mind from giving up to actually being intrigued because if we need to put this much effort into playing a game than the reward must be great after learning it all. Wish me luck because I'm definitely going to need it.
How’s it going? I’m just about to start it.
I'm kinda late but I have the same problem as you, this is my first time playing this kind of game, and I feel like I just make the worst decision in my life, I really don't even know what to do and just keep getting killed, though i'm still gonna try to watch all the guide and play it, hope it will go well 😭
Make no mistake, vigor is very important and should be your priority early on. Endurance is a close second but you get less bang for your buck with that. In the early game, you will notice almost no benefit from increasing your damage stat, but do it anyway as you progress (but not as important as getting more vigor while it's still cheap in runes). Vigor is less important for a ranged specialization. It still matters, but you can prioritize mind (for spells) or endurance over vigor in that case.
Don't need vigor if you don't get hit :)
getting vigor is honestly a skill issue
One tip for a lot very easy runes, go to Caelid Dragonbarrow west grace and go south-east, you should find a gray giant elder dragon, go it's left side back leg and start hitting preferably with a weapon with bloodloss, you have to hit for awhile but you get +70 000 runes and 5 dragon hearts, thats easily atleast 10 free levels.
Ima keep this in mind
And use a gold pickled foot for extra runes just before you kill it
@@sp3ctre47 I prefer pickled chicken feet.
If u run back to the grace before he dies u get the runes and he respawns did this about 4 times for 25 levels
I did this and it made me from level 9 to 34 with just a 5 minute kill. But first I grabbed an item that gives me 30% extra runes when dropped and I used it when the dragon was almost dead
I’m glad he said it! …to pick a strategy that suits your play style. You don’t/shouldn’t go in guns blazing when attacking enemies early game. Be stealthy or hit and run. Because that’s what I do and somebody told me I wasn’t a gamer because I don’t just Waylay enemies left and right…at least not early game on any game. I like to sneak up on them and take out a few before going in. And making easier it on myself. I’m glad I heard it from him and I don’t have to play that way. I’ve never played a souls game so this is hard for me and I don’t think I’m doing too bad tbh😌
Yess play how you want! This is my first Souls game too but it’s really cool so far :)
Life isn’t fair, so why should I fight fair?
Playing Sekiro right before this made me backstab every single enemy
Though I also get the urge to parry every single attack so balanced as all things should be I guess?
It was the fextralife wiki that helped me get into the first dark souls. Been a great journey and I've loved the decade I've spent playing these games. Here's to the memories to come, thank you!
Omg same
Just started this game, I find myself wandering around and picking fights with things I probably shouldn’t be fighting lol but really fun
Super helpful already from the beginning as I just started playing and did everything upside down. Bandit with health keepsake, couldn't find the merchant or torrent, ended up stuck in a cave full of weird octopus things and a golem with no equipment... I kind of love this game.
Was anyone else lost 2 minutes into this?
This applies to me, although I am tripping on shrooms, what's your excuse?😂
@@Trashy. Bro, if you dive into an Elden Ring guide while on shrooms, you'll basically be unlocking the game's hidden dimensions. Imagine every boss fight, every lore snippet, and every map detail coming to life like never before. The shrooms will heighten your senses and creativity, making the whole experience feel like an epic, mystical journey. Just be sure you're in a chill, safe spot so you can fully vibe with the adventure!
yes, he’s not very direct with where to go, i tried to follow and have been getting my ass kicked😭
Me here, maybe the creator doesn’t care about what beginners means. I didn’t understand anything….
Just played for 4 hours glad the difficulty is definitely still there and you gotta jump around areas to progress cause there is certain bosses you won’t kill at the get go 😆
I agree I played the game for a few hours and it still retains the difficulty of the previous souls games that I played. I see some clowns on the internet going on about how this game is easy compare to the previous souls games ? Whats with them ?
@@dhaumyagango1076 not sure but I’ve played and beaten all the souls games and bloodbourne and I still think elden ring at least at the start has been as hard as any souls game to date so far . That could change later but the start is brutal . The tree sentinel and that dude on the bridge forget his name I couldn’t kill right away so I’ve been exploring and grinding
@@adammauer4992 "90 percent players suck as they don't parry and dodge backward" , the lines I heard from this mofo who was calling the game easy. What's your playstyle ? And the game will amp up the difficulty after the first legacy dungeon, so it is only going to be harder.
Its challenging at times but not difficult. 34hrs behind
@@tominhaledhisfingers2468 it’s a difficult game for 99% of people. Only a few hardcore should players think it’s easy, and they are just saying that to be edgy
First time playing a souls game and I’m absolutely loving it! Playing as a confesser paladin your video helped a bunch. Just beat the tree sentinel and I beat the black night earlier! This game is beautiful! Thanks for your videos very helpful👍
Same here, bout 11 hours in and i’m horrible 😅 i’m happy this game will take me a while tho lol
How tf did you beat the Tree Sentinel?? That dude literally smashed down a the church to get at me
@@grantthomas8004 bro I’ve been laughing at this for 5 minutes. It’s true that bitch be running down churches just to get ur ass
@@grantthomas8004 bro I ran into this dude when I started. I have never played a sould Game. But I decided I wasn't leaving till I beat him. Took me 9 tries but I did. I was patient & just waited to dodge & strike back. Butttt shiittt it felt SOOOO GOOD to kill him. Plus he gives you a cool weapon.
@@XxSuPeRFLYFaTGUYxX 9 tries ???? Really bro, really now
I had the worst start. I went immediately to the dragon burned ruin and got caught by a teleporting trap. There I was in a crystal cave near a toxic swamp with enemy's way to strong and without horse, map or the ability to level up. It took me 3 hours to find the way back but I explored a good deal of the map I wouldn't have done otherwise :D
You can teleport from the camp fires
This is the first souls like ive spent my own money on. I havent gotten far but i love the style of this game. Its very beautiful, and im glad the creators stayed true to their form and created a huge complex world full of mysteries to discover!
I’m definitely in for hours of gameplay. I’m brand new to the souls games and I find it pretty damn hard already but I did find that enemies are tethered to their specific area so if I struggle with certain enemies I’ll just draw them out and kill them at range.
Hopefully they fix that because it's pretty much cheating
@@riffrider_ No it’s not. Every souls game ever will have the enemy stop chasing after a bit. It’s no different here.
@@riffrider_ I think it really helps with separating enemies for example the giant that jumps off the bridge and the guards. I had to draw the giant out to kill it else I had no chance😂
@@riffrider_ cheesing is highly encouraged in soulsborne games
@@kyleprince8043 Yeah for shitters
Just exploring I found a way completely around the castle so that was incredibly interesting. Only about 8 hours in currently, and there's so much to do so thank you for this video very helpful
Yea I’m 12 hours in and never even got the horse yet. I went in completely blind and loving just exploring. 🤣
@@shalom8858 you are doing exactly what I am doing I am 10 hours in and haven't even went to the Third Church. I am basically treating this game like I would if I were teleported into this land. And if that were the case I would be exploring finding cool new shit getting powerful and then absolutely destroy the tough guy on the Block. So that is exactly what I am doing and I am loving it this game is amazing
You should go through the castle still. Not only does it have useful boss drops, but the experience is AMAZING! It took me about 5 hrs to go thru it today. Good luck.
I'm now about 14 hours in, and had defeated Godric. I haven't even found a way to anywhere else, some side missions are fun and exploring has been a journey. There may a more "linear" way to play it so you don't end up in end game content, but finding the map under the map was interesting. I haven't explored that yet as I was too under leveled for it I felt but bless the scenery in this game is gorgeous. There's so much to do, so much to see, and honestly it's one of the best open world games I've played in years.
I found the way around after I beat godrick or whatever. I wonder if you can go that way before the bosses
My first souls experience and I loved it. I tend to go heavy on exploring first in open world rpg's, so there were only a few parts I had trouble with. Honestly the best gaming experience I've had in year's
If you're not turned off by grinding, there are a few spots where you can farm runes. Agheel Lake South has a continuous battle southwest of a site of grace. If you use Glintstone Arc, you can destroy multiple enemies at once. Then simply run back to the site of grace and repeat. Stay on Torrent so you don't get hit by the enemies.
I've been watching your reviews since Castielle helped me with some Fallout 4 bugs, and have always been extremely satisfied with your reviews and breakdowns. Keep up the good work!
First Soulslike game, been playing all day. Getting my arse kicked.
Definitely need to get used to the controls/timing with weapons.
Awesome game!!
Its all about resource management. Get into the mindset that everything is a resource. Obviously your health and stamina are resources that you can clearly see deplete via meters but things like attack animations, the time it take for your weapon to finish its full animation after swinging is also a resource. Learning your weapons timing is all on you but if you feel comfortable with the timing just keep in mind that this game heavily discourages "overkill" dont spam 4 or 5 r1's and deplete your whole stamina bar for an enemy that you can see after the first hit that you take off more than half of their health. The key for a good mindset to have for pve is to think of everything as resources. You are pitting the number values of your character (the amount of stamina you have, your damage numbers) plus the time of your animations (weapon swings, dodge rolls, spell cast) against your enemy and the key is to not get locked into something that will deplete your resources more than it will deplete your opponents resources. Ie: 4 r1 swings on an enemy that would have taken 2 thus depleting your stamina and leaving you open for the next enemy to hit you.
@@jakegordon5012 I needed this tbh
No seriously I died like 14 times attacking this little ruin area 😭
@@devinbridgelall8394 same. The dude with the tower shield and the little short lance and full armor that is so fast. He got my number for sure.
@@mikedodson4595 same lol, first soul games it's been pretty tough but enjoying it so far

As always, there's lots of information in this video. Thanks for the great work you do.

You are the first person I ran to the second I realized that I could not just Wing this game. All your guys have been so helpful for My many adventures in the Dark souls. I really appreciate you and all the time that you have spent sharing your knowledge and love for this game.
Get Golden Vow early, it shoots your defense and offense through the roof and the better your gear is the greater the effect. You can use different buff ashes of war from different weapons and keep the effects. Also, ashes of war effects have their own scaling outside of anything like keen, heavy, etc. For example, an ash that has a holy effect will scale with faith even if you chose occult when equipping it although it will also scale with whatever you chose (arcane in this case).
My favorite starter keep sake is the fanged imps. Once you are able to summon they are a solid summon up until the knights summon. They're pretty useful if you want to stagger and cause bleed on your enemies
Lol I love how you refer to character creation as the first boss.
I musta spent an hour and a half making that guy and barely got to jump into gameplay the first night because of it.
I only changed my characters hair lol
I did the same lmao, spent an hour or so on my character. Only got to play for maybe 30 minutes afterwards lol
Really appreciate your channel and all the time you put into making this content.
1:56 That's so weird to me how a core mechanic of the game can only be done if you go to a little chest under a ruin.
I had a fun experience of missing this lol
For me, Fanged Imp Ashes are very much worth it as a starting gift. There's no other way I've found to obtain them, and they are highly aggressive and can keep bosses busy quite easily.
This being the first souls game I’m actually going to play I think it’s so crazy how OPEN the world truly is. It’s crazy
You've always been a source for information for me for a loooong time... Thank you fellow tarnished
Thank you so much for this and i will indeed be looking at the wiki you supply.
your deep voice has helped me through the souls games, thank you!
You guys and gals at FextraLife are amazing I have always used your DS3 wiki and now with Elden Ring. You guys are like my Witchers bestiary, helping me on the path. Keep doing great things, I am gonna be checking all the videos. If only you had a Andorid app for the wiki
Just bought it and I am scared
That Game Progress Route Wiki page was a life saver I never knew what to do first and would get wrecked in boss fights because I was underleveled but now I'm doing great.
To all new players like me jump down the pit of knowledge it serves as a (I found useful) tutorial.
Nice thanks, I couldn't even beat the last soldier with a confessor lol I had to go vagabond! This game is gonna be tuff! My first game like this though seems really fun

Is he going to do a guide on every class because I want to make a good magic swordsman build
Started the game yesterday. I picked Samurai and tried to kill the tree sentinel right at the beginning.
That didn’t go se well…haha
Been killed so many times.
As a newcomer to these games, it’s frustrating but it also allows you to come back and learn from mistakes. That’s really rewarding if you accept to die X times before you start to see the change in your actions.
I restarted and picked the vagabond though. A good tip i could give every beginner. Been having much more survival on that class than on Samurai, cause it allows me to make more mistakes with its shield and big health pool.
this is the first of the series ive played and itshard asf so thanks a lot!
Thank you fextra!
Is Poise passive as it was in DS1, or does it only apply over heavy weapons as in DS3 again? I'm curious to know because I've only got access to some very mediocre heavier armor right now and even with all of it equipped, I get staggered from regular attacks unless I'm using a weapon art or heavy weapon...But I think I noticed a point in the video where your character took an arrow or two and wasn't? Do you just need a ridiculous amount of it?
Just got the game today, never played any souls games before, wish me luck gents.
P.s. gonna try warrior first
Good luck imma buy it today can’t wait

Hello Sir! Thanks for all you do for the community! Quick question: what stat do blood spells require?
In the network test it was INT, then it got changed to Faith, and now I hear it’s Arcane??
Without playing the full game, im gonna just say yes.
Just checked out fex wiki. Arcane seems to be the biggest stat governing bleed, but blood sorcery suggests it will require int. Hope this helped
*Bless us with blood
Int but check the requirements for each spell Individualy to be safe
Assuming it' the 3rd main school of magic a la glint sorcery for INT and prayers for FTH, I'm thinking it'll go toward ARC, especially since arcane's decrtiption straight up says it's used for some spells. No hard evidence yet tho
So.... basically just stop watching this video and just go to the wiki page. Nice. Amazing guide. 👏
I did not look up main story bosses since that is basically spoilers, BUT I did manage to find a Optional Boss list in order/ level difficulty
Pretty excited to get started on this game
Already got the game downloaded on my series X just waiting for the release date to pass am excited at the same time intimidated by the game cause its my first time playing this type of game.

Who’s here after coming back to the game and forgetting how to play
I started about 5 months ago. Still at the beginning. Thanks for the tips
Being completely honest, when I bought this game yesterday, I thought to myself that I made a mistake because I'm a very casual gamer and never played a Souls game before. I was convinced I wouldn't last 30 minutes without quitting and would die to the first enemy I encounter. Although the latter was true (I died to the scorpion-thing abomination that you encounter in the very first area), thanks to this guide I'm actually doing surprisingly well. Just finished an hour long session, and so far I died only once, and I think that I at least got a hang of the basics. Thank you for this guide, it really helped!
a question, have you found the great sword of the moon in this game?

Ok, ok, ok, we get it. You want us to check your wiki. No need to remind us about it every 2 seconds.
I'm playing this for the first time recently, and I don't know if there's a bug, or I was going so off-the-rails with my exploration that I broke it, but I never got the cut scene with Renna. I had to manually buy the Spirit Calling Bell from the vendor at the Roundtable.
Just subbed, great content man. Thanks for this video
Thanks for the sub!
Thanks again. This was super helpful; I am new to Dark Souls type games, and I wanted to play Elden Ring just tried it for the first time yesterday. Awesome guide thanks.
Must start new character. You find a treasure in a cave, open it and then you are teleported somewhere else. Where the opponents are fiercely heavy. I think the first thing you should do is skill your character with runes. Then gradually further preparatory work. Each opponent must first be 😂😂😂 taken. Brilliant game.
Same happen to me u just find one of the save spots open ur map and u can fast travel back out .
@@eyehaveyou11 unfortunately I ran into an area like this as well and if caught by a chest trap and teleported, your access to fast travel is blocked until you can escape the cave/dungeon, and get back out into an open area of the map.
I ran out that cave if you sneak you can get past everyone done pick up anything just sneak out
If you sneak out you can find the rot dog ashes outside which are very handy since they can apply rot to bosses, this helped me finally beat tree sentinel
literally just find grace if you get sent to caelid.
I struggled so hard at the castle ruins in front of the gate to stormhill but once i figured out that you can block i did it LOL
I've still got absoutley no idea how to play this game. I swear it's like in a movie when the 'nerd' talks about a game. This is literally Cones of Dunshire!
Do you have any tips on what some good settings are for the auto targeting. This is my first Souls game and I'm having a bit of trouble with the lock on or at least getting it to be a smoother experience.
I don’t have any settings tips but a general rule of thumb is that playing “locked on” a target will get you killed in a lot of group enemy settings if you stay auto targeting the whole time. Since DeS it’s always been very advantageous to learn how to play unlocked. You can really hit some crazy angles of attack when playing unlocked that enemy ai can’t react to and to novice PvPers looks like magic. Their is a fine line to toe between auto target and unlocked and you are going to have to figure that out yourself but once you learn it is so satisfying.
I genuinely hope you have a blast with the game and don’t let the difficulty make you shy away from it. If you want someone to play with on Xbox add True Acez. I’ve been in the Souls Community for years and a lot of us are super eager to get newer players into the game. FromSoft games are just something else man and I really really hope you enjoy it. Have fun, expect to die a lot and get frustrated, learn from those mistakes or nothing will change and the cycle repeats, and when you first beat that boss that kicked your ass 10times Internalize that fucking epic feeling because thats what SoulsBorne and Elden Ring is all about.
@@GenDrake3 Well I asked because it isn't working for me.
My first 3 hours: get stomped on by the tree sentinel
Thanks for the wiki it’s much appreciated🙏
i finally started after finishing DS1-2-3 and sekiro and I'm having an easy time with bosses and battles so far, really curious to see where it'll go from here though
Kinda want to go in blind for my first playthrough but this sounds like there are many things to miss if I don't do them in order. Is that right? :(
Same here
Im just gonna play a bit then watch this guide to see if im missing something important
You will definitely miss stuff blind, but these games are made for multiple playthroughs. If you want to go blind, do it. Then play through after with a completionist guide. I do that with every should like.
dont worry about messing up in your first blind playthrough. With enough grinding you'll be strong enough to eventually finish the game
How good are bows in Elden Ring?
Your voice is so soothing. I had to come back to watch this because I fell asleep last night haha
About to start my first elden ring and souls playthrough. Should I go wretch, mage, or samurai?
This channel is easily the best and most digestible/understandable Elden Ring content.
Whats up with the wiki links every second? If i wanted to read the tips i would not have clicked on this video!!
For my play through I want to try out the elden ring magic and be a mage. Which class do you recommend to start with for that?
I got this game simply because i needed to see for myself how serious the reputation of difficulty of souls games are.. And the praise of how amazing it is.. I thought i was good at action RPGs.. I was very wrong.. Thank you for the tips and wish me luck 🤣
I’ve walked the country side for about 12 hours gathering, exploring, and fighting. Watching this video and dude teaches you where to get torch, mount, and meet the first spell girl. WOW I guess I missed those. 🤣🤣
