Look at the stats then say how he is passed his prime, especially last 4 fights. Just look at the recent landed of punches. Lol. Canelo could be the entire 168 devision and somebody would say the other guy had a bad day lol

Something I'm noticing is in Canelo's last fight with GGG and this fight, he's pressuring a lot more than he used to and he his focusing on upping his connection rate. I think this is in preparation for the Bivol fight, as to nutrialise Bivols fast jab, volume and large defensive movements, (which are terrible to face for a counter puncher) if Canelo pressures and improving accuracy so that he may through less but will connect more, if it goes to points, which should work rather well.
i dont think ppl realize out of the first 5 rounds of bivol vs canelo, canelo won 3 or 4 out of those and he was gassed, i believe he was not showing everything against ryder and saving it for bivol

I think you answered yourself through the video. I agree with everything you said, we have seen Canelo change game plans in second fight (ggg), change game plans during fights (multiple ones), see him be more defensive, seen him be more offensive....so that being said, vs Ryder he didn't need to change his gameplan, what he was doing was working just couldn't KO Ryder. Ryder had only been KOd once, now if Canelo wouldn't have KOd Amir Khan, that would have been an issue. Boxing is levels, and Ryder is a highly competitive game fighter in his weight class. Why would Canelo show things to Bivol that Bivol can plan against, he can practice in sparring in preparation to fight Bivol if that is next fight. You saw Ryder in the locker room practicing protecting his body, and Canelo saw that as well and kept goign upstairs buy Ryder was a tough sob, so he couldnt' get a KO. Canelo was trying to get the KO I think, and boxing more would have lowered the chance to do that. Canelo has shown to fight guys differently, so for us to expect him to fight Ryder the same as Bivol is a stretch. We will have to wait and see if he indeed changes his gameplan vs Bivol 2
Call me crazy but do you think canelo did this to trick Bivol into thinking he’s not the fighter he once was? Maybe like some mind game to have us all thinking he’s on the decline and he’ll absolutely change and destroy Bivol or I’m I just crazy?

I think Canelo really shines when his opponents give him something to think about and overcome.

Canelo was fighting in a phone booth trying for a knock out. That wasn't his fight plan for this fight. Like you said he'll need to be evasive and defensive for the Bivol rematch the old Canelo needs to be there come September.

Canelo no longer has that elusive head movement he had a year or two ago. Maybe it's the fact that he had no respect for John Ryder's power. Canelo administered a terrible beating to Ryder, and is, in fact, still the face of boxing. Until someone else can sellout a 75,000-seat stadium outside his native country, he's #1 at the box office.

I am pretty sure that Canelo did not go into this fight with the idea that he was using Ryder as preparation style wise for Bivol. Canelo stated in interviews that he wanted to give a fan freindly fight. I am sure that Canelo will not have the same game plan for Bivol the next time around. Otherwise, you're on point.

I don't understand why you would want to see a fight where there isn't anything but dodging and blocking. The Mexican people, especially in Mexico, like to see a fight and he always delivers. He likes a fight and can take a hit and isnt scared to get hit. Thats what makes his fights so good and why he is so loved by us fans. You can't actually think he'll use the same strategy with Bivol, thats just silly

This was dead on, Canelo did not show anything this fight he can use against Bivol even though he dominated. He should forget that and fight Benavidez who is tailor made for Canelos style.

Canelo did dominate, but everyone saying canelo is gonna have a different game plan and beat bivol in rematch are delusional. Styles make fights and bivol is naturally a better technician. If canelo tries to push bivol back, bivol works in the pocket and gets back in the center. Bivol knows how to neutralize canelo's style. It shows canelo can't keep up for 12 rounds at 168+, he's had a tendency to not need 12 rounds or work as much, but bivol's stamina is too much

One disagreement I will have is we saw one thing that was different Canelo's connection rate which was much higher, if he had the connection rate he did here in the Bivol fight, which if he pressure fights Bivol is perfectly possible, Canelo would land more than Bivol and win on points. The issue Canelo has as you said is counter punching is not going to work against bivol he needs to be much more proactive.
Of course this type of fighting would not work against Bivol. Canelo is one of the most adoptive boxers. He always trains for the style of his opponent, he never does the same thing to each one of them. You’re going to get the speed & movement in the rematch with Bivol. Just wait & see.

Canelo should just focus on Middleweight, Bivol is too young, too skilled and a naturally bigger guy, let the LHWs fight each other.

Sorry, but NO, not enough for Bivol at 175lbs. Canelo not as quick as he was, took too many unnecessary shots & faded towards the end like with Bivol. Canelo should fight B level fighters from now on like Mayweather did late in his career.

I think canelo has a different game plan, let us not forget boxing is like a ches game. Make bivol think this is what he is gonna phase and then bang.. head movement and hip movement. I think he was more focused on landing more… specially the jab! Jesus I’ve never seen canelo land so many jabs one after the other.. I think in round 9 he landed 17 total punches if I’m not mistaken …. 17! Usually canelo will land 8 accurate power punches.. not this fight.. he went for volume. I think he thru 100-150 more punches if not more than usual. And landed more in percentage.

This fight doesn’t mean he’s going fight Bivol the same way. He will changing his style depending on his opponent. My opinion is that he tried to please Mexicans by fight “Mexican style”.
The reason his defense was poor because he was tired and his gas tank was gone after round 6
Nope, Canelo actually threw more punches in the later rounds than in the early rounds. Ryder was a tough SOB and now we know why he has never been knocked out.
I feel like this style of fighting were Canelo just stands and trades punches is better for bivol then the ducking and weaving style we normally get from him.

Canelo is on the decline. That’s just the way it is Canelo can still beat a lot of guys because that’s how great Canelo is but he still is past his prime. Canelo in his prime finish is John rider in the first six rounds so I don’t know how y’all can sit there and act like Canelo is in his prime. Just look at canelo in his prime fight and then look at what he did against triple G and John rider just look at it just look at his movements look at his foot work look at everything back, then compared to how he fights now it’s night and day.
Canelo is obviously getting older but I dont understand all of his haters. He’s had so many mandatory fights. Only lost 2 (3 if you count GGG1) but he’s a P4P champ. I want to see him change his style some to account for his age but I also love his aggressiveness

Andrade was the WBO mw champ and since he had champ status he had the power to call for a title eliminator or shot for the WBO.. Ryder fought Zack instead and we got that fight...

He was fighting John Ryder that night .. not Bivol .. he executed the game plan to dominate John Ryder .. but the volume of punches along with the accuracy he executed on this fight, would be the game changer in a rematch with Bivol .. and not to mention fighting off the gaurd, which he demonstrated on this fight.

Canelo looked very flat footed and slow and he even looked tired by the end when Ryder barely hit him with any significant shots and was being backed up the entire time. If he rematches with Bivol he'd get beat and it might be even worse than the first time since Bivol wasn't as confident the first time since he knew Canelo was a threat. Now that invincible aura has been broken and Canelo is only on a two fight win streak compared to when he fought Bivol the first time and was basically steam rolling everyone in multiple weight divisions for over a decade, ever since the Mayweather loss. Ever since the Bivol loss, Canelo has looked slower and more flat footed, especially in this fight.

I'm honestly worried canelo is gonna gas in the rematch, and I think he comes with the same game plan and is gonna get stopped against Bivol. I don't wanna see that happen, I love canelo. But ever since the loss against Bivol he's just... Slowed down. When he lost against Floyd, he came back a different fighter almost completely. But after the Bivol loss, it's almost just a very clear decline in the oddest way possible.
A part of me wants to believe that he didn't want it to end early cuz he wanted to put on a great show for his people in Mexican and not end it early in round 3 or something soo people can get their moneys worth

What was great about that fight on canelo’s part besides you mentioning how easy of a matchup it was for canelo. He still put on a boring fight and was gassed.
