    One of the best!

The 83 was really fun to ride but the 84 had the more explosive powerband so "fun" also if you were kind of sadistic. Most of us did a modified head gasket on the 84 to calm it down. They were all amazing beasts!

Oh but you hurt the feelings of all us old guys that like a good putt putt around the track on big bore 2 strokes because we can't handle them wide open! 😂😂🤣🤣

Sorry about that VWs and Vettes my point was that many riders buy these big bore bikes and never get them out of 2nd gear which was not what they were built for. But thanks for your comments and for watching my video.

@@monticlassictv I was just making humor. I enjoyed the video and thank you for showcasing this beautiful CR480R. I remember drooling over them in the showroom when they were brand new. Take care Chris!

I agree that this was the best open class package. I had all of the Japanese makers including this magnificent bike. Foolishly sold it mentally years ago due to space and preferred my 81 490 Maico which I still have.

I am fortunate enough to have bought one of these rocketships back in 1987 after selling my 82 model CR480 and buying a YZ 490 K the year before. The 83 I still have is 100% original, all the plastics everything except the front forks and front wheel which is off a 89 YZ 490/500. Still have the original forks, they need a bit of work done to em. The bike looks like its new, many many hours went into polishing the plastics to look better than new. A shinier shine if ya know what i mean. Every single piece of alloy on the bike has been polished to a chromelike finish, gear n brake levers front n back, swingarm and all the linkages, engine mounts, triple clamps, even the carby. I prefered the 82 models 4 speed, tthe motors made that much low midrange grunt 4 gears were enough. Iv also blown the 5 speed three times and they cost a fortune to replace. The motors are indestructible and last forever if ya dont keep getting them hot. Heat kills rings, i havent changed mine before now for about 10 years. I always use Castrol R30 much to the disgust of my bike riding mates. About the only things that need replacing regularly are the chain and sprockets. Iv owned her for about 38 years now, its one ill never sell. They were/are a biike that inspires confidence in any rider. They were very easy to ride and hold flat stick while short shifting. Very easy to keep in the sweet spot not like my 490 that had the power delivery of a 80cc but in 700cc quantities.
Loved your vid mate, one of the best. I have just found your channel and its one of the best yet. Two thumbs up.👍🏻👍🏻

Hi Steven thanks for your story it’s always nice to get individual owners views on their own experiences and your right these CR480’s were superb bikes and with the right rider in the saddle there wasn’t much that could catch them on their day. But thanks for taking the time to comment on my video and I hope you enjoy further walks down memory lane when I showcase more machines on my CDBTV Channel.

It's strange that he built it so amazing perfect and he didn't pull the fork boots down

@@CharlieOsgood3 I'm sorry Christopher you are wrong or are misunderstanding what I'm saying. See the 2-3 inches of fork showing above the front brakeline clamp? That shouldn't be showing. The boots should be pulled down to cover that area. Other than that, the bike is perfect

@@CharlieOsgood3 it's strange because whoever built that bike knows what a 83 CR480 should look like. I think they were such good looking machines
