- We’ve had a few “twin” bikes on the channel recently where two of my bikes are only a few years apart and today is no exception! Both of these Honda CR480 motocross builds are the 1983 model year and have tons of upgrades to be more race ready for the track. These were alot of fun to restore. I paid $4,700 for each at the time and appeared in good condition overall and not beat on. The bottom frame rails are in excellent condition. I have a CA title for one of the two. They had original plastic for the most part which is a good sign. The tanks were in very good condition so I decided to refurbish them and keep them off the bike. I purchased the aftermarket tanks that are currently on the bikes from VMX Racing and they are good quality tanks. These tanks take the original gas caps.
At the track, I prefer the CR480 over the CR250 for the extra power and torque off of the starting line. All the power on these bikes are in the low and mid range and drops off at the top end so you want to find that sweet spot of when to shift. The power increase definitely outweighs the weight disadvantage compared to the 250.

That open class grunt is such a cool feeling & super fun to ride. Beautiful machines!
Yes, they are so fun to ride! A must have for any serious Mx rider to have fun on.

When i was 13 i had an rm400..was a good time.then a close friend bought a cr480 and ive never forgotten it.he was around 20yrs old i was only around 12-13 but yea ive just bought an 83 cr480.cost a fortune but hey...cant take the money with you right lol.great channel man.awsum bikes.
Thank you Hayden! You are going to love the CR 480 👍🏼
I raced a CR480R in '83 and you described the power delivery perfectly. It is the easiest open class bike I've ever ridden other than the '81 Maico 490. Both easy to ride fast. It's like Honda cloned the Maico, except for the rear end. Thanks for the memories.
Thank you Dan for your comment 👍🏼
I have 3 of the 83 models also, they are great race bikes and easy to ride
Agree! The 250 and 480 are a ton of fun to ride!
In one of them has a 82 motor in it it's the works good on different tracks fun motorcycles to ride! Wish I could find a a left side clutch cover they certainly don't look as nice as your's
Love these bikes Charlie, good video
Thank you! More to come in the next several weeks
Sweet looking bikes. I used a have a cr 450r . Pretty much the same bike with a bit less power I would think. Sure was fun to ride that bike. Sadly I was moving, and had to sell it...
AMAZING CR's 480 !!! Thanks for the information about the filter to check i never noticed that. I usualy do not like the black rims but I like the ones you put on the 480, It looks very Good , i am changing my mind..:))
A very very Thanks for all the videos about these Fantastics bikes, It's always a real pleasure, you rules Charlie !
Yes, definitely personal taste with the rims. I always try to run the stock wheels and if I do have to rebuild them and do new rims I definitely love the gold or black.
I've collected three of these two of them have 83 motors in
Gorgeous restorations Charlie 🥰
Thank you Chris…means a lot 👊🏼

Thank you Logan 👍🏼
@@rhysjenkins5754 right on Rhys! Thank you!
I would’ve gone gold rims
Yes great choice as well.
I also have a 83 480. Do you know where I can get a set fenders and number plates
Yes, go to www.VMXracing.com for number plates and fenders. On my 1983’s I use the 1986 CR triple trees that accept the 1986 CR front number plates.
Do you still have the 1984 KX500?
Looking at your shop your fucking loaded
what asv levers do you use?
Go to the Asvinvetions.com web site and in find your bike do 1984 Honda XR 250. For the clutch do the C6 series off-road pro model clutch lever. The model is CDC6o6PX including perch $180. For the brake lever choose the C6 and this will be just the lever for $120.
The 1984 forks with the disc brake are a slip fit very easy to do.
But then I can not race them in the 1981 - 1983 GP3 class. That class (this year bike) is not permitted to have disc brakes when racing it in it's official class and must be period correct. If I did want to ride a bike with disc brake I would take out my 1986 CR 250 or 500.
