      I kept my sons 1st tooth sanitized 1st hair cut and bobo aka pacifier. Put them in those office clear sheets with the holes then put them in a binder for my son to keep to show his kids. .same for pics and death announcements.

    I, too, have held onto teeth. When I had my wisdom teeth out in my twenties I was amazed how big they were and held onto them to show my best friend. Then they got put in a drawer and I kept forgeting to show them to her on her next visit! I think they went out on my last major purge, but they could still be lurking decades later! Lol!

    Thank you so much for your video. Yesterday I was going threw boxes & pulled out some of those funeral papers & they are sitting on my coffee table as I was trying to decide what to do with them. I did put the sympathy cards we got in the box to donate to either the nsg home or school for crafts so that was a good thing. Watching your videos has really got me rethinking things as I keep way too much stuff. Thank you again. Ann : )

    Things like fast food prize items and kid related things teachers appreciate getting. I had a treasure chest in my room and I only needed to purchase items for it once a year because my kids' generous parents were always dropping by to donate this and that.
    LOL Norrine. I'm throwing stuff out and now I want to go buy some candy in a tube! I love that those things fit quarters and hold $22.50! I want to cover one and keep it by our spare change bowl. When it gets full, I'll put it in the car. Tidy quarters!

    Great tips. Something I do with greeting cards etc is to put them in archival page protectors in a ring binder. I have loads of cards from my Mum & Dad & there’s no way I’m throwing them away.
    A quick tip about memorabilia, don’t throw it away until you’ve had the pictures printed, otherwise if the picture is out of focus you’ve lost that memory.

    So sorry about your garage, but thank you for still posting a video. I have been saving my diaries for the last 5 years, and they were taking up a drawer, after watching your video I decided to go through them, make a note of important dates in a 5 year diary and burn the rest. I now have ONE small diary instead of a drawer full, and it REALLY helps your mind from feeling cluttered. I have been wanting to do this for ages but just needed that push so THANK YOU xxx

    I understand about your home flooding. Our home in Southern La. has flooded twice. The second one was totally a disaster. Our home is on concrete stilts that is about 4 ft. off the ground. It came into our home and destroyed our walls and floors furniture. It was horrible. We did get money to fix it back up. Our field is around 5 ft and the water came over the fence. We had anything that could float went right over the fence. If you heard about the flood in Houston it hit them as well as us. We live by a bayou and when it floods it floods our little village.

    I am absolutely loving your videos.
    I feel better about removing unneeded "stuff".
    One thing I am finding is stressing me is disposing of purged items environmentally friendly.
    Things like old towels, plastic toys, macdonalds toys, trashy kitchen supplies. Too used for thrift stores but so wasteful and filling landfill with 100yrs half life...

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer
      @TheCraftyOrganizer  5 років тому

      Old towels and sheets I take to pet hospitals or local animal shelter. I've never found one to say no! And many schools will have a teacher who is really happy to get older toys! Just run them through the dishwasher first.

    I have a drawer full of obits started from when my mom started it! I've thought of doing a memorial book, an idea that my cousin did. Scanning photos would probably take a whole lot of space for me🤪 Teeth, yes, I've kept and my son is in his 30s😀 You're inspirational and I'm motivated to get back into purging and organizing my home once again. Hi! I just found you & subscribed tonight- I’ve watched a bunch of your videos- they are encouraging me to keep on plugging along. I am decluttering my moms home right now- she has dementia and it’s pretty tough. I have about 30 hours invested into her sewing room with many more to go. When I am finding sentimental items that I know used to be special to her but she no longer recognizes it’s so difficult to get rid of things! I think taking photos is a great idea- I could make a scrap book- but then there’s more time & money to do that on top of all I have already!..... did I mention I am decluttering my own house too??? Yikes! The temptation is to bring her special stuff home with me.... but I absolutely cannot do that! I really like your common sense approach , gonna keep watching 😉👍🏼

    • @hannahcrumley3103
      @hannahcrumley3103 5 років тому +1

      It’s going slow but steady at my moms- I have started a memory book for her- getting the abundance of photo frames off of surfaces and putting the pics in her book. The amount of nick knacks and trinket clutter has been easily cut by 80%. I designated a box for storage of some of her special items and am donating the rest - I was getting too bogged down with the sentimental stuff and needed to move things along... so I’m procrastinating on that stufff and boxing it for now.

    You can digitize the most important things (scan flat items like paper, take videos of the three-dimensional things) before disposing of them. Then store the files inside a reliable external hard drive. External hard drives are becoming smaller and smaller, and the manufacturer often offers free file recovery in case the drive crashes, but the technology is improving fast, and drives hardly ever crash anymore.
    That’s also an ongoing project I have. I am digitizing my journals, and shredding everything afterwards. The shredded paper will be donated to companies or farms that can use them for compost. My old journals will literally help plants grow. It’s a cycle I love to think about.

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer

    A few years ago we returned from a short holiday to find our bungalow was flooded, due to failed below-floor pipes . No stairs -so nowhere to escape it! The clear-up took from May until the end of October. It gave us a chance to remodel, but was still incredibly frustrating.

    I didn't have a weather-related flood but my upstairs neighbor had her washing machine hose come disconnected and her whole wash cycle and I mean wash rinse Etc came through my kitchen ceiling. It filled the light fixture and I had to in of water in my kitchen, utility room and little did I know it had gotten under her linoleum and went all across my whole ceiling and started coming in through my cabinets and down behind my stove. Maintenance got up the water but that's all they did. Then 2 weeks later it happened again and by this time my boxes of food like noodles, cake mixes Etc started getting squishy!! Turns out the water where it's seeped in through the back of a cabinets grew mold everywhere. I had to end up moving and it cost me about $3,000 because I had to pay a deposit, rent all the new apartment and transfer all my utilities and you know they charge for that and I also had to pay for Movers. It was a horrible mess!! So I feel for you I know exactly how you feel. Besides that, the apartment was huge so I bought a lot of furniture to fill it up and the apartment I had to move to is very small so I had to get rid of a lot of my furniture by giving it away. I didn't have time to sell anything. the worst part is the apartment complex did not give me a penny to help out. All they did was let me out of my lease so I could move

I lived in CA most of my life. I can’t wait to go back. I now live in Alabama and I have become mold-a-phobic. Black mold can cause severe brain damage and even death. How did you get it dry? Does your garage door still open so you can get fresh air in there? Thanks for giving us permission to let go of emotional stuff.

    I wouldn't suggest keeping pictures in your hard drive because if something happens to your computer, like say it crashes, you lose everything. I keep the most treasured things from my children when they were little, in a box. Half the time they don't remember giving you the things you have from them, so those things are easier to toss. But the cards they made when they got older, I have kept. You see, when they get nasty with me, I pull out a card and read what they wrote me when they were younger and I ask them, "so I guess this was a lie?" LOL! Anyway, I made the religious cards into book markers, because I love to read. I couldn't throw away a picture of Mary. Others I hung up on my wall. But letting go of things from your kids is the most painful part because there are memories that run deep. Why? I wish I knew. I understand why you have your little animal. You see, that attachment runs deep. It would be interesting if someone did a show on this subject. Why do certain objects mean so much when it is otherwise useless. Sorry about your garage. I do enjoy your videos since I ran across you.

    The funeral cards are good to keep for family records. I would suggest having a manila envelope for each family member, and keep these paper memorabilia items together. Ex. Wedding invitations, graduation invites, newspaper clippings, letters or special cards, baptismal record, old addresses, etc.
    I punched holes in my envelopes and put them in a 3-ring binder.
    For genealogy lovers, these little items can connect the dots in missing information.
    I did this for two sides of great aunts and uncles. When I have a question, I can just take out that particular person's envelope and browse through their Life.
    AND... for those of us who feel overwhelmed with numerous photographs of people we never really knew, this creates a great place to file some of them.

      Yes!!! Definitely scan, if it's a family member. And I think keeping a copy in the family bible is the perfect place. Thanks for watching!

    Teeth hold "T" cells and can be helpful in certain health situations. I have to laugh. You have "a drawer" I have numerous boxes! Fortunately, the boxes are not hindering my life but they really need to be gone thriugh. The thought of going through them and purging them stressed me out. I NEED to do it however! In the past couple of years we have lost our parents and have had to go through all their stuff and I don't want my sons to have to go through that emotional trauma when we pass.

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer

      This is where setting the timer is essential!!! You only have to go in for 10-15 min. The call it a day. Next day, repeat that process! In no time you will have gone through all of those boxes!

    Save the teeth!!!! When my 40 year old son was in the hospital & almost died, they asked me if I had any of his baby teeth. I had just thrown them away about a year before! 😩. Now I don’t remember why they wanted them, something to do with his DNA in

    I am laughing so hard! This is embarrassing, but I have 2 teeth in an old prescription bottle. My teeth. That I pulled myself. WHY in the WORLD would I keep these? For 10 YEARS?? I have no idea, but I think I'm ready to let them go! LMBO

    The first tooth I ever lost was present BEFORE I ate a bowl of Rice Krispies, and was gone AFTER. Hmmm....never did find it. Lol. Kind of disappointing in regard to the whole Tooth Fairy situation. I'm sure SHE wouldn't want that one. ;)

    I saved teeth from my kids...1st child, I saved almost all (she swallowed a couple)...2nd child I kept a few...3rd child I think we kept the first one. But I am like you...why keep them? It's rather gross, so if I find them the go to garbage. I just found 3 cereal containers...2 with no lids...3rd one is missing the little pour spout opening in its lid, so off to plastic recycling they go. Sheesh the stuff I come across.

    Gross things I kept of my son’s: his circumcision ring. I can part with some things fairly well. That’s the one thing I will not part with. I’ve had it for 27 years now. 😬🤢🤷🏼‍♀️☺️😀

    This is my first time watching your channel. Do you really throw away all that sentimental stuff? Original old photos and family funeral cards? I can understand if it wasn't family or the original photo. I'd frame it. My issues are with sentimental things as well. If the items are gone the memory dies.

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer
      @TheCraftyOrganizer  5 років тому +1

      If it wasn't an item someone else could use.... I did throw it away! The thing (for me) was that drawer didn't bring happy memories - it brought me dread. There were too many 'things' in there. the very few things I kept are now out so I can see/enjoy them. And I am better with photos for memories then the actual item. Thanks for watching! :)

    Thank you for all the ideas that you show I have a junk drawer too and I moved into a new place and all the stuff that was in like my drawers or now in boxes so I have to go through them and that's a good idea I think I'm just going to check the teeth in but I don't have a scanner so like to take pictures of all the cards like you know throughout the years I've got a box of cards that I can kids gave me me know my husband you know when we were dating excetera and I don't want to get rid of those but like you said take a picture but I'm going to just have to take a picture and have it on my phone and then I take pictures off my phone I'll have it on that little you you be thing that you plug it in then you can look it at when you have a computer and hopefully someday I'll have a computer I'll just take the pictures of my daughter can keep them in her computer for me alright thanks for the ideas good luck with your flood maybe get the sweep it out until into the street as much as you can. I don't know you might have to hire somebody for that I mean it's only a little bit so that might not be that much money maybe I don't know but I'm sorry but good luck

    I had my kids teeth, neatly labeled by child and date. They, as adults 40 years later, said "ulgh. That's gross." And out they went. I also can't throw away the funeral cards in my missal from Catholic Church.

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer
      @TheCraftyOrganizer  4 роки тому +1

      I understand the funeral cards.... I had my grandparents from when I was a child! It' felt so disrespectful to throw them away. However, those papers are not what allowed me to remember them - nor were the cards bringing me happy memories when I saw them. So, I said a little prayer as I let the cards go. I felt better doing this - but I encourage everyone to make the decision that is best for THEM. ❤

    I believe baby teeth can actually be a source of stem cells in the future, should the child when he/she reaches adulthood need stem cell transplant that is actually a match. I may be off on that, but believe I read it somewhere. I believe I would save a couple. Anyway, you’re doing a great job.
