    I can't tell you how many time I've wished I had a magic wand or could just have a magic genie come and BLOOP!! mess gone. LOL I am making progress in my guest room, turning it into a creative space. Cleaning it out, purging is going slow, but every time I can see SOME progress I feel good about what I HAVE accomplished. Thanks for the encouragement.

    great video. A few years back, I designated a mail drop inside our front door/foyer. IT's a large basket on top of a bookshelf. Next to the bookshelf are 2 brown paper grocery bags - 1 for shredding and 1 for recycling. What a difference. No more junk mail - it goes right into the recycling bin. The shredding bag is for throwing any pages of letters with our name/address. The basket only holds 'REAL' mail.

    I think I've watched this before, but it came up in my feed and I definitely needed to hear it again. Even tho I'm doing most of what you said already. The #1 Magic Trick made me realize the things I have, sitting in my shrunk in my livingroom, that I don't need and some I don't want. Like gifts that someone gave me out of love, but that isn't really my thing. 🤫😔 🤷‍♀️. 💞🥰💗

    I love all your great ideas and especially the one that everything needs a home and then when it comes in the house you just automatically put it there ! I label most everything so at a glance I can see what goes in . I’m trying to get organized I just keep watching your videos and I don’t give in to the piles 😬 it’s like once you start it just continues to get bigger 😳 thanks for all your ideas 👍🏻

    Wow, I wish you could come to my house! Although, I'd be too embarrassed to let you in😰 Thanks for the amazing tips and motivation. I moved in to my tiny studio about five years ago and it's never been organized. I love cooking and entertaining, but there's no way I would ever have anyone over because it's such a disaster. I walk into my house, see the mess, and just want to leave. Or go to bed!

      One small session at a time! In tiny places, you have to create the storage.... things that double as function AND storage are the best! Dressers as a tv stand can hold an amazing amount of storage. Use bench seats any time you can for additional storage. And bookcases are a wealth of space!

    Good info. I have a friend who I have given your link to. Myself and others have tried to teach her how to do things to get organized, however she just does not seem to catch on....until now!
    Something about your videos...you... she can truly catch on to the whole concept and she is doing well, slowly, in the right direction. I have been asked to ask you (others are to shy?) if you could do a video on paper work and what to dis guard and what to keep, how long, etc. We have tried to get her to understand that things like monthly bills you do not need to hang onto, bank deposit slips, statements, well you get the idea. She just keeps everything. While there is stuff you need to keep long term, we can not get her to understand. You are our magic wand, hey there may be others out there who could benefit from this information also. Keep up the good work, and thank you for your videos which are the only thing working for our friend :)
    P.S. We understand you are very busy and if this is not doable we fully understand :)

    I'm enjoying some of your earlier videos. I have my hands into too many things right now. Coming up with fall projects for my sewing family that I'm teaching, purging things to sell on eBay or maybe in at a local booth. What about the "four" quilts that are in different stages. Others that want me to teach them to sew. Bath the pups, clean, volunteer at the thrift shop that raises money for our local animal shelter. Wow ... I need to get out my timer and set it. LOL

    Great advice 😉👍 that feeling is why I feel like I have to have a clean house to come home to when we go on a vacation.
    Do you have any videos about how to handle clutter from other family members that are slobs? Lol. One trick I learned is to not leave too many open spots. I may put a large vase on that spot and I have a specific basket for each person to "dump" if that makes sense. Lol. We have built in shelves in our livingroom & my husband likes to use it for his vitamins. It literally looked like a medicine cabinet! So I filled all the space with candles and decorative items and purchased a pretty basket for him to utilize for the vitamins, etc. for ONE shelf. Thanks for all you do! ❤

      @@TheCraftyOrganizer I love what she calls a 5-minute room rescue. Every day go to your worst room, set a timer and find things to purge or put away. It is eye-opening if you take a pic of the room first. After a week, you will be motivated by the progress you see vs the beginning photo. In fact, going to start doing that today in my office now that taxes are done.

    I used to have problems with mail. Whom ever brought it in for the day set it wherever. It was a pain with the amount of junk mail that came plus bills , cards etc. It is now just my husband & I so everyday I take the mail & in less than 5 minutes I have it sorted & ready. The bills I open & take a couple of seconds to write on the front of envelope the amount of bill & the due date. I have a tiny plastic folder to put them in. I keep them in due date order as we both get paid once a month on different days. So I pay bills twice a month. As for the junk mail, I shred our name & address off from it within 5/mins of coming in the door. The rest goes into recycling on a daily basis. I usually set it on the corner of my kitchen table & when we walk out the back door for anything we grab it & drop it into the recycle cart just outside our back door. One task that we have a great system to handle. Now many more tasks to get into control the same way one at a time. 🤩

    The phenomenon of the multiplying dishes in the sink is just baffling to me, but at least I know my house isn't the only one with that problem! You are SO right- if I figure out the beginning of the pattern, I can fix the problem a lot of the time (like making sure the sink is empty, or clearing the table for dinner). OMG I am Luke that I don't like any dirty dishes on my sink at night bz everyone will drop so many more even if is just a spoon is like an ok every one get the pots and pan now and put it on the sink. Some time I think the kept the dirty dishes until they see one litle spoon and they they run to get everything they had and put it on the sink. Then if I said something everyone look at me like i am crazy. So nice to know that is nothing wrong in me that there is someone else that think like me. I will send this video to them and I will tell them " oh, is not me is You!" Lol thanks for all you share I love it.

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer
      @TheCraftyOrganizer  5 років тому +2

      I've done this with my kids.... Positive reinforcement! First - give that surface a purpose! Vase, Plant, etc. Second - each time its neat and clean, mention how much better you feel when it looks this way. Third - Cross your Fingers. ;) If it's a common place where he puts things - get a decorative box/bin for him to place his items. Let me know how it goes.

    If you don't use it or love it, get rid of it. Period. You could give your unwanted items (and/or donate) away them to someone, to a worthy agency, organization, etc that will give it those who are really in need and that'll use it, wear it, etc. And please don't donate or give away anything of that you know is non-working, beyond repair, "ancient," broken, heavily stained, useless, etc. Instead, give those items to your local garbage man driving the big dump truck that stops by your house/driveway weekly. He's great @ collecting trash and dropping it all off @ the local dump/landfill in your area. And please, always be mindful of the "80-20 Rule" bc it's long since been studied, tested, recorded, and proven to be 100% true/factual across the board. It applies to everyone who happens to still be alive and breathing; no matter your demographics, age, race, gender, status quo, education level, etc. Less truly is More. Detach yourself from "things"so that you can focus on the ppl in your life that matter, the moments, & the memories that you've shared and made with them bc those precious memories are the only things that we're going to be able to take with us whenever He decides to call us back Home on that fateful, inevitable day.
    Be Blessed ~ Godspeed !!!
