    When Fonda told J Cobb “you’re alone”, It also meant that he’s alone in his personal life too. When Cobb finally says “not guilty”, he also accepts that his son was not guilty for leaving him. Great writing and directing!!

    Its probably my favourite "technique" in filmmaking, or rather favourite way to make a film. shooting only at a few or one location is such a good way to show change in character, relationship and story and you can play with so many things. you can make it more objective( like looking through a window) or more subjective ( making us part of the story, characters looking at us or speaking to us in a way), or you can switch between the two. you can choose different lensing, change architecture, change objects in the room, colours, doors, windows, clothing, lighting, camera angles, movement.. dont matter if its intuition or great planning, if the director knows what hes doing it can turn out to be something special , like 12 angry men, in the mood for love, some of ozus movies

    And the best part is, it is so subtle that we as audience do not even realise how we are sucked into the story. We began as a side-lined audience member but by the end of the movie, we are both tensed and relieved.

    Glad you used a shot of Denis Villeneuve when talking about directors and their importance. I believe, in my humble opinion, he is one of the best in the business at the moment. He has had some brilliant movies, but the one which made me sweat in an air conditioned cinema was while watching Sicario. The shoot-out at the border, the aerial shot in night-vision, the shower scene, the list can go on... Or take the movie, Blade Runner 2049 or Arrival. He is too damn good!
    Love your channel, please keep making more intelligent videos!

    I think the point is to make the audience 'Experience' the situation while making them 'Participate' in the story too along with the characters. Only then can a viewer connect his/her sub-conscious and conscious mind and have a personal idea about what it is.

    Vineet "Sir", as I'd like to call you, I would like to thank you for changing my perspective towards cinema as a medium of expressing art and feelings. Indeed, first-time watching for a film has to deal with commercialism. But what makes a film great is its detailed personal analysis over the years establishing a legacy. Your videos have given me experience as a self-acclaimed cinema student. Currently, I might not be able to venture into cinema as I aspire to. It's my dream. But it's sadly suppressed by the rat race I am participating in currently much like other Indian students. I hope after I complete this patch of life, I will enter the cinema at a mature age and with experience gained through your videos and many others like them, I will be able to enhance the art itself fo the purpose of exploring the artistic world and spiritual life rather than just for money.

    You mentioned on a previous video that the subscriber rate is very slow on this channel. I know for a reason why. The uploads on this channel are once a month or so. Try uploading twice a week or at least once a week and you'll see a titanic difference in the no. of subscribers. I know videos of such high quality and editing take lots of time, and you have other things to do, but at least try to upload videos more frequently. Maybe you could review a movie every week. That will increase some interest in your work. BTW, great video!!!

    • @actuallyprath
      @actuallyprath 5 років тому

      I disagree. I think his channel needs a boost or blow up somehow. I mean people should share this with their friends, family or whatever. Uploading videos every week or every 2 weeks is not exactly the solution. For example, take BB Ki Vines. (not comparing it to this outstanding channel) The guy uploads videos every month or after 2 months sometimes. Just my opinion.

    Black and white films really were shot differently. I wonder how much of the lighting inconsistencies could one pull off had the film been in color. Obviously, the video is about lensing, but I've always been curious about how black and white cinematography is fundamentally different from color.

No analysis or explanation of his work has been satisfcatory as a film- specific head start.. Even his own interviews available are very generic.. Hey Vinit. You speak a lot about the cinematography. About why a shot was taken in a particular way, and what effect it generated, and how it contributed towards the quality of the movie.
    But a couple of years ago, I saw a movie "Love Sex aur Dhokha" which was made completely with the help of handycams, cctv and hidden cameras. But still somehow it managed to be an excellent movie. But as my knowledge on film isn't as good as you, I could not understand what was the thing besides the strong script that made it so awesome.
    So please make a video essay analysing the movie if you ever get time.

    • @abhishek_beniwal
      @abhishek_beniwal 6 років тому

      In my view, cinematography needs to match the script. These same techniques which made 12 angry men a great experience would be useless say in Love sex aur Dhokha as the script is different, what the director wants to convey is different and thus use of different techniques of cinematography.
      As far as the use of handycams, cctv and hidden cameras goes, they perfectly show what the script is trying to convey. Using those instead of traditional cameras creates the sense that you are watching it unfolding live, without editing or something.
