Is the Aladdin TV Show worth it?

- After Aladdin hit the big screen he was such a popular character that they made a movie called Return of Jafar but then Disney went one step further when they made a whole TV show based on these characters.
Aladdin, Jasmine, Abu, Carpet, Genie and Iago, because he became part of the team during Return of Jafar, all join forces in order to stop the villain of the week.
They fight mud monsters, snakes, beings with magical abilities and so many others in order to save Agrabah because that town sure does have some bad luck!
Each episode focuses on a different lead and after 85 episodes there is so much to see and do but is it worth it?

Aladdin deserves to have televised adventures.
He did! Likeable characters and a magical world. You can't go wrong there!
@@Lytane it also misses out on ABC, for Disney's 1SM.
Mozenrath the show's main villain who more or less replaces Jafar as the former is often called " Jafar jr" by Iago and the latter is dead by that point , however apparently Mozenrath doesn't know who Jafar is as when Iago was distracting him asked him if he ever heard of him describing Jafar as snake-like , Mozenrath doesn't answer and just shoos Iago away , this show that not all evil sorcerer's know each other .
Hey mate, I would like to say that i enjoyed watching your video talking about the Aladdin TV series. Not many people over the years on UA-cam has EVER bothered talking about this show so extensively like you have! I loved all 3 movies and of course the TV Series! :D
Yes it was worth it! I was a big fan back in 1994-1996 when it was on TV in the UK but for years and years I've been waiting for Disney to bring out all 86 episodes either on DVD or Blu-Ray...Disney has failed to do so! I'm disappointed that they have not brought out all 86 episodes on DVD or Blu-Ray.....Yet, they brought out Chip 'n' Dale on DVD! :'(
Well done mate, really appreciative of this video! :) Btw i love the games collection you have on display in your background during the video.
Thanks for watching it! And It does surprise me as well, with a movie as famous as Aladdin I thought that more people would have talked about it. They do talk about the movies though. Maybe it's because the show is over 80 episodes long. I also wish I had talked about the show more and went into more detail in more of the episodes that I liked and hated but the video was running long already. Maybe one day I'll revisit this.
It's strange how Disney works with them being extremely selective on what gets a release after they have aired it. There are plenty of other shows that Disney haven't released and some I get because they were bad and others, like this, I don't know why they keep it locked in their vault. Also funny enough I own the Chip 'n' Dale DVDs hahaha
You are more than welcome and I appreciate you watching and thanks, I have many more games than that but I need more shelf room.
Yeah no problem! :) I enjoyed it and i hope many others will too! We'll see the TV series on DVD/Blu-Ray one day.....the question is.....when?....
Lytane Variety Show you forget the sadira episodes
I didn't forget about them! It's just that there were so many things to talk about and I didn't want this review to go on forever. As for Sadira I think she was alright as a character but her motivation was very week. She meets the super famous Aladdin, falls in love instantly and then gets jealous over Jasmine and wants Aladdin all for herself all in the matter of minutes. Besides the set up of her character I think her episodes are fine and are among the better ones of the show.
@@Lytane can u review Sadira episodes'
Amazing review my friend. Aladdin is one of my most favorite Disney Afternoon series. Some of my most favorite episodes are Elemental My Dear Jasmine, Never Say Nefir, Garden of Evil, Eye of the Beholder, I Never Mechanism I Didn't Like, Getting The Bugs Out, SandSwitch, Forget Me Lots, Shark Treatment, The Secret of Dagger Rock and My Fair Aladdin. I been hoping one of these days if Disney can release all the 86 episodes of Aladdin in Disney Plus, DVD or Blu-Ray. Aladdin is an amazing tv series and the current generation deserves to know about it. My favorite characters from Aladdin are Aladdin, Jasmine, Genie, Rajah and Iago
Thank you for the kind words! Man Disney needs to get their act together and release some of their old shows back on the platform. I don't see any reason why this isn't on Disney Plus now, as I would love to watch random episodes again. I'm glad you enjoy the show!!
@@Lytane Thanks
That intro was C R I N G E..... subbed
Trust me I know. I lived it but I REGRET NOTHING!!! HAHAHAHA thanks for that!
@@Lytane what do u think if there's an episode where mozenrath brought back jafar from the dead and they teamup
Yes it was awesome it should be on Disney+
Good review man, nice to see someone review this show. This is my favorite franchise of Disney. Three movies and a tv series. Aladdin is my favorite Disney charecter. I love all the episodes but some I like more than others. My favorite episodes are
Seems like old crimes, two to tangle, the lost ones, shark treatment, never say nefir. My favorite thing in the Aladdin Francihise is the first film of course. My favorite Disney film ever . I give it a a plus. Return of jafar while I agree it was not as good as the first I think it’s a solid sequel. I like the fact Iago switches sides. I give it an b plus. Now king of thieves I give an a it was a really great way to end the story. And Aladdin the Series of course I love it. Maybe u could do a top ten review of your favorite episodes.
Thanks! It was fun to watch, though maybe not as a binge like I did hahaha
Seems like Old Crimes is a great 2 part episode showing Aladdin's story and how he could have been a bad guy if he wasn't so kind hearted. I would say that Aladdin is my favourite Disney film as well, followed by Lion King, and lots would agree. That's why there is plenty of games, movies, shows and they are still releasing new things with him.
I like the story ideas in Return of Jafar but they weren't handled the best. King of thieves though was much more compelling as a story and I thought it better than part 2.
As for a top 10, maybe one day. I did mention a few of the episodes I liked in this review, can't remember how many but that's the start of my list hahahaha
@@Lytane u forgot to mention the episodes where genie has a girlfriend 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I love this, thank you!
This makes my day, thank you!! What was your favourite Aladdin episode?
Would love a reboot/continuation of the series. So many stories left untold they could do. If they could bring back the Lion King on Disney XD which was wack AF, then they can definitely bring back Aladdin with better quality.
That is so true! This show would thrive today as well because of the huge variety of stories you can tell. As long as they don't do it in weird 3d effects and stick to animation.
i remember that episode when aladdin gets kidnapped by mozenrath
Because it's that good! And Jasmine saves the day like a true hero, such a good time!
Yep I remember Saturday Disney as far back as the early 90s when I believe they first started with the Ducktails and Rescue Rangers series.
Aladdin as well as the Little Mermaid were my fav shows during my younger years and I loved both Princess Jasmine as well as Ariel as they were early waifus for me.
Waifu is a word to describe fictional female cartoon character who you feel attraction for.
Husbando is the male version of the same thing.
Being a weeb I know full well what a waifu is hahaha
I also grew up with this show and a few others on Disney like Winnie the Pooh, Gummi Bears and Gargoyles as well as the ones you mentioned. I always liked Jasmine for her cunning and her eyes, I might of had a crush on her as a kid but I don't think I knew what that was until I was older hahaha
But, it’s a progression. Genie’s powers did get better and better again in the series until in King of Thieves, his powers were back to normal
It really isn't a progression. If you watch one of the first episodes or one of the last episodes the Genie is fairly incompetent. Otherwise he could just solve every problem with magic which would make for a boring show so I understand why they did what they did but he doesn't get any better as the show goes on.
King of Thieves is different for a few reasons, one it's a movie and two Robin Williams returned. They kept Genie nerfed but he was far more useful in that movie but not as good as the original.
Lytane Variety Show well towards the end of the series, Genie fainted less and, made less mistakes with his transformations
You know what, I agree with you on that. He did make less mistakes when it comes to turning into the right thing but he still goofed up just as much. So in part he did grow a little but I still think it's different from the movies.
Lytane Variety Show true that
Oh man! An Aladdin tv show review with the SNES music. Love it :)
Haha I'm glad you do! The SNES (and genesis is there too) music was to help avoid copyright lol Couldn't use the official songs in the background in fear of being caught and video game music is a much greyer area.
Yes
You think this show would make a good video game
Honestly yes. With how many stories and bad guys there are it would be easy to make many levels based off of these episodes, maybe make an overall story where the villains team up and Aladdin has to stop them or something.
i like the flawed couple
Genie: But Never Duplicated Genie Of The Lamp!!!
Do you think the character Eden who was Genie's love interests inspired the character Dalia from the live action remake who also serves as Genie's love interest ?
Not really, both have very different personalities and characters. The only similarity is they both serve as a love interest.
Love this show have this on DVD
You have this on DVD? Where did you find it? I looked online but it isn't easily available. I don't really need it now but I am curious, was it official DVDs?
i have the aladdin series too on blu ray dvd
i remember the episode the shadow knows and aladdin and genie said aghoul when he sneaked up behind them
Aladdin the best cartoon ever period!
Best of the Disney Movie cartoons at the very least
i agree
Maybe the reason Genie turn stupid is because thew writers told Dan Castellaneta to be like how he is when playing Homer ?
I mean that's probably partly true. Simpsons was a VERY popular show when this came out so they could have been trying to shadow some of that success. It makes sense but it's still annoying!!
In my head Mozenrath and Aladdin were secretly fighting over D J Tanner. Also, I always knew Lilith from Frasier was evil!
I recently figured out that Mozenrath could have saved his own life by making the Philosopher's Stone. He's definitely one of my favourite villains of all time. It was rare to see a disabled character in a Disney program that actually hid that fact.
I also have a weakness for Chaos for some reason. He was the best representation of complete mischief, better than Loki in the MCU. I mean, why not make an evil twin just to make fun of the fact that Aladdin always won? It was one of the few times when, in the end, it was actually a villain who got what they wanted.
As you said around 18:00 the episodes were indeed out of order, wich lead to a fan theory of mine:
The Secret of Dagger Rock is in my headcanon Mozenrath's chronologically last episode, as there is no explanation for how he escaped the Crystal of Ix. Besides, being trapped in a crystal with his pet makes for a fitting end to Jafar's succesor.
It’s hard to determine the right order as well because my order of episodes was different to IMDB. Super confusing.
I fully agree here, your theory is now my new head canon. He will remain trapped until Disney wants to cash in on him in the future lol
Your opening song parody; Relationship goals!
And now she is my wife =D I also never let her live it down hahahaha
wow
When I watched the show, I noticed that the genie wasn't as humorous as he was in the movies. He didn't have a whole lot of humorous dialogue like in Aladdin and Aladdin and the king of thieves for example.
That is mostly due to the fact that the first and third movies have Robin Williams as the voice and they made the Genie around him as a person. When Dan Castellaneta does the voice it's not bad but it's a VERY different genie from the movie. As such he comes across much more stupid and not as funny. He does have some moments but few and far between. Honestly he is one of the more annoying characters in the show.
Interesting. I never thought of Genie as annoying in the show, but all the other stuff you said made sense. Robin has done an amazing job as the Genie. His energy was in the character as he makes a lot of references to stuff in pop culture. Dan was probably stuck with the script so he probably didn't ad lib and didn't do a whole lot as the genie sometimes as far as humor goes because of the writing in the show. I see his name pop up in other projects besides the Simpsons. For example in the back to the future animated series he did a really good job playing Doc Brown in the show. So good I thought it was Christopher Lloyd voicing his own character in the show.
I found him annoying because he kept making mistakes and usually was useless. I think the show tried to stay away from pop culture references in case they had to pay royalties or that they would get in trouble which is why Genie only turns into generic things. Army guy, Nurse, Rocket instead of real people. I don't think he did a bad job of the role but he wasn't written too well.
I haven't seen that show before! I'll have to give it a look. Dan was also in Star Gate and was good in that too. He was also Grandpa from Hey Arnold and Grandpa is one of the funniest characters in the show!
That's awesome. I also remember he did the voice of Dr.Harvey in the animated series the spooktacular new adventures of Casper.
Tony jay played Khartoum the Herald and narrated an episode
I had no idea! Add that to the long list of celebrities in this show. I wish he was Frollo here and condemned everything he saw hahaha
Were you disappointed this show wasn't on Disney plus
So am I. Wait.... are any of the disney cartoon shows on Disney Plus?
Yes
yes it was
Short, simple and to the point. Faster than my 20+min review hahaha
Genie is A Blue Genie And Aladdin's Best Friend in Disney's 1992 Animated Movie Aladdin He Will Appear in The Following Games: Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure 2 (As A Playable Character) Meteos Disney Magic 2 Disney Friends 2 Disney Villains Revenge 2 Disney Villains Shooting Game Disney's Animated Storybooks Just Dance Disney Party 3 Disney Epic Quest And Lego Dimensions Year 3!!!
So remember when I said that Jafar is the only villain to not re-appear in a film turned television show while i was wrong as the Evil Queen didn't appear in the Snow White and the 7 dwarfs tv based show called the 7D as instead the villains are the Glooms Hilda and Grim who are not connected with the Queen at all . It's also a prequel series meaning it take before Snow White and the Queen herself is born . Now this is very difficult to determine if it is anyway connected to the film as the last episodes make no references to the film's events in the far future like a baby Snow White or even a baby Evil Queen being born .
I didn’t even know there was a Snow White show. From what you’ve said I assume you have watched it. Is it any good? It does sound interesting though. I wonder if it is part of the main story like the Aladdin show is. Do you think it’s part of it?
I watched a few episodes it's Ok , It's not connected to the original Snow White Film as the dwarfs look different
if you think about it Jafar is the ONLY villain who's movie-turned TV series to NOT appear as all others made an appearance even Clayton and Mother Gothel appeared despite being dead even if it was just in dreams
I could have sworn that I remembered him as a cameo or some part of the show. Like Jenie turns into him as a joke. But I’m probably wrong hahaha also in the Hercules cross over episode Jafar is there so does that count!?
He technically appeared in a crossover between Hercules and Aladdin.
Are the episodes really out of order? I did not know that.. I guess I haven't watched enough episodes yet to start really noticing that. But for the Mozenrath episodes, what they're listing as his first episode: The Citadel, is definitely his first episode because that's when Aladdin first meets Mozenrath. But I don't agree with one of the commenters here about his last episode. Two to Tangle actually does seem like it makes sense for his last episode, because his body was weakening from his gauntlet.. but at the same time I do find it weird he's just sent away in a hot air balloon and we don't know what happened to him after that. So now I'm thinking, maybe that wasn't his last episode then?.. Because honestly to me, the Book of Khartoum seemed like that could have actually been his last episode maybe. In the episode the more evil wizard uses him. He ends up taking his power from him, and then Mozenrath becomes depressed it seems after his power is taken and says at the end of the episode, "Who cares? I lost everything..." It's actually sad and makes you feel kind of bad for him, even if he's the villain. So I thought that was interesting they would put that in there to try to make you feel sorry for him. Like that seemed like something more that they would put in a last episode for him then? So maybe he just found a way to extend his life from the other episode.. who knows.
But also there's the Lost City of Sun episode where his skeletal hand is first revealed. And now I just realized when thinking about it, that Aladdin actually saw his skeletal hand already in the Black Sand episode that supposedly came before it, but didn't have as much of a reaction as he does in the Lost City episode when it's like that's really the first time he's seen it. And I was kinda confused by that...Ok, yeah they do seem like they're out of order. 😅 Strange. It makes you wonder what the real order of the episodes are then? Now that's gonna bother me.. Lol
But I love this series so far; it's awesome and I do think it's funny also. I'm glad it was made and I do think it's worth it. And I got into it just for Mozenrath. :p 🖤💙 My friend introduced me to his character years ago. I watched all the episodes with him first. lol He's definitely my favorite and I've posted a few videos of him on my channel so far, and would like to post a few more vids also of different stuff from the series too. Some of the Mirage episodes I've seen so far are good too. I need to watch all the episodes now.
Yeah sadly quite a few are out of order. You don't really notice until you have to watch the show run back to back. When I was a kid I had no idea they were not in the right order.
I'm not sure which order the Mozenrath episodes should be in as like you said they can kind of be moved around. What I do know is that he was not meant to just disappear from the show and was going to be a main antagonist in the third Aladdin movie. They probably would have continued his story and if rumours are true, been Aladdin's brother! Too bad he got cut in order to distance themselves from the show a little bit and make it more stand alone. I think he would have been an amazing movie villain!
The Aladdin show had some great villains and even with 60+ Episodes I still wish there were more. But at the same time, there were quite a few crummy episodes lol. If you want another good Disney show then checked out the Tarzan TV show. That's one of the best Disney cartoon movie adaptation shows in my opinion.
i watched the whole series
Awesome!! Aside from liking the flawed couple, what did you think of the show?
i liked the series and i saw every episode
One of the worst episodes of the show is "Do the Rat thing". Jasmine is heavily out of character in this one. She comes off as bratty and immature.....like she was irritable when Aladdin made that tasteless comment about her not knowing about the outside world beyond the palace. She takes it to heart and does the foolish attempt of becoming a thief, and when she is cursed she is oblivious to her faults, also does she really expect Aladdin to recognize her as a rat? When Aladdin tosses her aside she is offended. When she returns to normal, she takes her anger out on Aladdin and all the lesson she takes away from all this is that there are poor people beyond the palace walls. WHAT?!?!
All in all, that episode is a mess.
I agree with EVERYTHING you just said here. I hated that episode for much the same reasons as you. I also don't get how becoming a thief will teach her about the outside world to begin with. It might teach her that thieves get their hand cut off for stealing, THAT would be a crazy lesson! It is a very crummy episode indeed.
@@Lytane Precisely! To think, all of this started when Aladdin made that tasteless comment about her not understanding what's it like to live on the streets. Her flaw is that she took that to heart, because she (Jasmine) is overly sensitive and doesn't take criticism too well. She is young after all, but that's beside the point. She was quick to jump to conclusions and create drama where there really didn't need to be. Plus, her lashing out at Aladdin at the end was totally uncalled for, only learning that there are underprivileged folks beyond the palace walls....the main problem with this episode is the writing and character development.
There was another episode that was a dudd, "I Never Mechanism I Didn't Like", where this time around, Genie is the black sheep of this episode when one of Mechanicles' robots infiltrate the palace and hypnotize everyone into believing that he is a good guy, Genie suspects that the robot is up to no good. But in this episode everyone gets mad at Genie for being a screwup and naturally don't listen to him when he suspects the robot named Greg is trying to do Mechanicles' bidding.....
The series overall is great, just a few dudds in the mix here and there.
😧 Oh my God, yes, thank you! That and the "That Stinking Feeling" are probably my least favorite episodes of Jasmine (and probably within the entire series itself). I mean yeah I don't know why Aladdin even made that comment about her being a princess, but why she thought being a "street rat" would make her understand Aladdin's life was completely stupid. The writers completely missed a great opportunity for Aladdin and Jasmine to talk more about his life before meeting. But instead, it was just Jasmine being completely arrogant, making a mess of things and not taking any responsibility for the trouble she caused and taking her anger out on Aladdin. It wasn't his fault he didn't understand her trying to talk to him.
But any ways in "That Stinking Feeling", she completely led a prince on just to make Aladdin jealous.🤨 Like really girl? What if it completely backfire on her and Aladdin had walked away from her? She could have just talked to Aladdin about being spontaneous every now and then.
Lmao."you watch a lot of shit shows" 🤣 your girlfriend is funny
I'll tell her you said that! That script was based on a real life conversation to. She can be so savage hahahaha
