I'm glad to already see some positivity about The Lion Guard here. As someone not even close to the target audience, it's a really fun show that when it was airing was, IMO, unfairly hated. It takes a little bit to get going but it gets away with a good amount of stuff you wouldn't expect from a Disney Junior show.

Also gotta shout out Talespin. Which is a classic.

  • @Depth217

The show was definitely fun sometimes. I really only had like two VHS from them, featuring episodes with Pumbaa trying to be an elephant, the two rescuing a snail, the squirrels in love, Timon on trial, and a wishing whale, plus a hyenas short.
Other episodes I barely caught on reruns at 4 AM on Toon Disney. I LOVED the game Timon and Pumbaa’s Treacherous Trek, sadly it’s been lost to the ravages of time and the Internet.
That said, the show wasn’t perfect. I feel like Timon got really unlikable and a lot of the comedy didn’t land because of it especially as the show went on. Ironically the episodes with the guest star appearances of the hyenas, Rafiki, Zazu, and Simba were probably the best episodes of the show for the most part.

I find it surprising that with most shows that Jordan covers, my comments tend to begin with, "I actually binge-watched the entire series, sometime ago." Timon and Pumbaa is no exception, as I actually managed to find the entire series on UA-cam _before_ Disney+ aired.
I ultimately clicked on it for the nostalgia of hearing Hakuna Matata playing at the beginning of each episode, but as I let the episodes play, I realized that the show as...actually _pretty good._ It was far better than I was expecting it to be. And I honestly think it's because Timon and Pumbaa are so strong as characters, that you really do want to see _more of them._ You want them in more situations where you can enjoy their antics for some relatively harmless fun.
I gotta admit, some of the show actually has my favorite moments from the pair. Like the episode that gives a backstory for how the two met and that awesome song they did together, from the covers of Stand By Me and In the Jungle; the series overall is great.
I think one of my favorite moments is when Timon tries to prove how "famous" he is, and says the line, and I quote, "I'm Timon; the Rat-Thing from the Lion King~" - that line is hilarious.
But I think what the strength of the show is, is truly the strength of Timon and Pumbaa's friendship; they get into all kinds of perilous scrapes, death defying situations and they tend to but-heads every now and then...But despite all of that, their bond is so solid, that it withstands all of that, and never truly breaks. They're two guys who don't fit-in their own societies, and get cast out...But in spite of the entire world being against them, at least they have each other to face it with...
So all ya gotta do is, say "Hakuna Matata," and stand by your best friend.

This was a show I’d watch fairly regularly on Toon Disney besides Darkwing Duck, Tailspin, Goof Troop, and Chip N Dale. I’m pretty sure I had a VHS copy too. I was, and still am, a big Lion King fan because I love animals. So this show was up my alley.
Anyone remember the penguin voiced by Charlie Adler? He was like bad luck and caused accidents unintentionally. I’m sure his catchphrase was “Are you okay?!” Ngl I was disappointed you didn’t mention him, not that I loved the character.

When I was a kid only the rich people had Disney channel so I never watched any of these shows. I think I saw an episode of recess at my friend’s house once.
I had no idea this show even existed.
It’s cool seeing these shows I never got to experience.

I remember having both seen the show on Saturday mornings on the channel XD changed from Toon Disney and i think had a few of the episodes on VHS or rented them. i still remember the one episode of Rafiki helping a bullied mouse by Elephants overcome he's bullies and even teach him a lesson to be fine in your own skin. not to mention the show was pretty funny and very well animated, like a lot of the shows on Disney at the time.

I also recall reading a comic from the line up of Disney Magazine at the time and i recall it either came from an episode about Timon's colony of Meerkats attacks by a predator or it inspired the episode.

I remember this show from back in the day, as well as the 1 and a 1/2 movie. If "The Lion King" is "Hamlet", then that movie could be "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead!"
