    I love this series. It's cheesy but it brings up a lot of cool things. I love all the new character development. Love the episode where Jane wants to adopt a leapord cub and Tarzan is like "do you remember who killed my parents?". I wish Rokonov could have been a recurring villain though. He is such a hilarious pain in the books.

      But HE IS SO CUTE!!! (But I totally agree with Tarzan on this one hahaha) They changed so much compared to the books and maybe if the show was given a second season they would have brought back Rokonov for some more adventures.

    Well, brother, I can say with confidence that I love the episodes involving the Waziri tribe and Queen La of Opar because of varying reasons. The Waziri Tribe, especially Keewazi and Basuli, could have been a wonderful family for Tarzan. Back when I was a 9-year-old third grader, I was always fascinated with how strong Basuli's and Tarzan's brotherhood really was to the point where I concocted an AU head canon where Tarzan was being raised by Chief Keewazi, with Basuli as his older brother. I contend that Keewazi would make for a superb father figure to Tarzan because of his sense of discipline, combat skills, and sagacity. Basuli would also serve as Tarzan's older brother because he has a strong code of honour and is a warrior through and through, thus making Tarzan learn a lot from him while learning a lot from each other. Therefore, Chief Keewazi, Basuli, and Tarzan would have made for a nice, loving, virile family consisting of a single dad, a super handsome and super muscular older son, and an athletic, beastly yet protective younger son. Moreover, Chief Keewazi was voiced by the late, great James Avery known to the sitcom world for his portrayal of Philip "Uncle Phil" Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I even loved Basuli's and Tarzan's epic roar before the end of "Tarzan and the Poisoned River Part II" in order to scare off Ian McTeague because of how I affirm that they are wild jungle brothers through and through.
    Opar is my most favourite locale in the Tarzan universe. In the original novels, this was actually a place inhabited by beautiful women and men with extremely beastly features, with Queen La being just as fluent in the Mangani language while being an ally to Tarzan. In the show, however, Queen La is an outright tyrant ruling the anthropomorphic leopard men with an iron fist. Her voice actress was just as phenomenal, given that she was portrayed by Diahann Carroll who also had a fine singing career and was known for her portrayal as Dominique Devereaux from Dallas. La's chemistry with Tarzan is just as palpable, although he is just too loyal to Jane to ever want anything to do with her. In an AU scenario, Tarzan and La would not really be lovers, but more of rivals, siblings with Tarzan being the older brother to La's younger sister, and reluctant allies. Out of all the leopard men, I would have to consider Kaj, the leopard man in green, to be almost like a brother from another mother to Tarzan, especially evidenced when they were saving each other from the Kraken.
    When all is said and done, Chief Keewazi's fatherly duties would never be boring, considering that he has Kaj, Basuli, and Tarzan as his most beloved sons. Despite how vastly different they are, they would be embraced by Chief Keewazi as his own flesh and blood.

      I love them together as well. And when they meet up in a future episode and are just so brothers even though they really barely know one another. That's the best part of live, making up new stories using characters we know and love. Your version of Tarzan is great and I love that Tarzan would get that kind of family dynamic and wouldn't be such an "odd one out" with his family.
      I'm always surprised to see how different the show and movies are from the source material like with Opar, I had no idea it was cool hahahaha. I was also a huge fan of Tarzan's loyalty, it literally doesn't even cross his mind that there is any other women out there for him than Jane. It was so refreshing instead of playing the jealousy story we've seen many times before.
      It's always great reading new ideas and stories from people, thank you for sharing your universes with me =)

    Tarzan's voice actor led another underrated tv show no one talks about called The Pretender. It's about a genius who can master any profession he wants and escapes a facility that kept him from his parents since he was a kid, goes around the country using his abilities to expose shady people in charge of said profession while searching for his parents and tricking the facility's agents searching for him. It's really sad you're literally the only person on UA-cam reviewing the show. I'll check the show out sometime on UA-cam if copyright hasn't deleted it yet

    Tarzan came out in an era were the most popular thing were pulp magazines, basically early comic books, so in many ways, Tarzan was the first comic book hero with reoccurring villains in plots in all 24 books

      @Lytane  11 місяців тому

      I wouldn’t say that Tarzan is a comic book hero as that implies a lot of images which these are more books. But it was one of the earliest serial stories which is really cool. It also has a lot of influences from the Jungle Book though

  • @Arigriphantua

    In regards to how Jane and the professor can communicate with Tantor, Tarzan mentions having taught them to speak to animals in the episode with Roosevelt, so it was addressed in the series; not to mention that in the film and TV series, gorillas and elephants (along with mandrills and at least one vervet monkey) seem to speak the same language (which is translated into English for the viewer's convenience).
    Also, personally, I think that it would have been nice to have Tarzan and Jane as a couple that live together while not being married (I had no problem with it then and I have no problem with it now). It's not like Disney hasn't gone the "darker" path in kids media before; take the Gargoyles TV show for example (whom Tublat's voice actor also worked on as Goliath).
    On yet another note, how come in the outbreak episode, Tarzan and the Porters didn't catch the viral disease?

    • @Lytane
      @Lytane  2 роки тому

      It is also talked about in the episode, tubulars revenge or something? The original pilot. The point I was making was that the start to the show is a little jarring without any set up or explanation. So I suspended my disbelief but was a little annoyed when I sat the original pilot that addressed my confusion.
      I fully agree with the married aspect. It doesn’t really add anything to characters or anything but Disney can’t have casual sex! Normally when Disney does something dark it’s usually with violence or heavy themes like with Gargoyles as you mentioned. But here it’s meant to be more light and fun so, no mating!
      I’m not sure, part of me thinks that Tarzan might have an immunity growing up in the jungle. It could also be that it isn’t that viral after it’s initial outbreak. The people around the digging site were most impacted so maybe they got lucky? With todays perspective they were really lucky as they didn’t even wear gloves lol

    This show was definitely worth the watch. And as far as Disney movie based shows go, this is probably the best I seen so far when it comes to characters, and storytelling at least. Almost every Disney movie based shows I come across too are either not as good or just mediocre. But I won’t lie that Aladdin, Hercules and buzz light year of star command has its moments of brilliance.

    • @Lytane
      @Lytane  Рік тому

      While I haven't seen every Disney movie shows I too would rate Tarzan as the best of the bunch. When Aladdin is in it's element it is better but this is just constantly good. The same can be said for Hercules but I haven't seen that in a LONG time so it may not be as good as I remember. Emperors new school has some really funny moments and Little Mermaid wasn't very good from memory. I'm glad they canceled the Beauty and the Beast one, that was pretty crummy.
      And yet with all of that, Tarzan is also the one that can't be found anywhere due to legal rights :(

    One of my favourite episodes is when the two diamond mercs return and have a fight with Tublat, resulting in them capturing him
    Tarzan is so conflicted about this because on the one hand Tublat is a complete monster who has tried to kill him and his family many times, but on the other hand he is still a wild animal that doesnt deserve to be taken from his home or killed
    When he does choose to reacue Tublat they dont make it a happy ending: the gorillas are unhappy, Jane tells him not to do it tho she respects his decision, the mercs try to kill him, Tublat himself says he never shouldve come in his aid
    Tarzan has a set of good morals and principles and he stood by them even if he didnt get anything in return

    • @Lytane
      @Lytane  Рік тому +1

      That is such a great moment in the show and one that is rarely done in a kids show. To have the victory be a matter of principle rather than an actual good outcome should be show more often. Instead of one of those "mutual respect" or acknowledgements of the good guy, Tublat says he'll still kill Tarzan.

    I remember watching this show as a kid and I had no idea that show based some elements from Edgar Rice Burroughs’ books. Coincidentally, the creator of the Tarzan series guest-starred on this show as Ed in “Tarzan & The Mysterious Visitor” which is one of my favorite episodes. My other favorite episodes are the Queen La episodes and “Tarzan & the Gauntlet of Vengeance” which Clayton’s sister appeared to get revenge on Tarzan who she believed killed her brother. Those episodes were the best! I understand how unappreciated and underrated this show is but it really got hooked into reading the Tarzan books. I really wished that this show continued with its second season even adding Tarzan’s human background, based on the books, that his late biographical parents are really Lord and Lady Greystoke. I’d love to Tarzan going to England after having one of the gorillas take over the role as leader of the tribe. Maybe having one of his long-last relatives recognizing him as the heir to the Greystoke fortune, his real name being John Greystoke. His reaction with the civilized world would be very interestingly exciting yet hilarious, e.g. him being a fish out of water, lol. He, Jane and Professor might be really surprised to see Tarzan’s jungle friends, Terk and Tantor came along, hahaha! And maybe after encountering old and new enemies, Jane reveals her pregnancy and she gives birth to a son at the end of season 2. Tarzan would name his child John, yes, but notably “Korak” which means “Killer” in ape language.
    Anyway, these are my thoughts and opinions about this series even if they continue this show by adding mythos and lore from the Burroughs’ series. Thanks for sharing this video with us! {^_^}

    • @Lytane
      @Lytane  Рік тому +1

      No way, I didn't know that about the creator, that's pretty cool! Oh I loved Clayton's sister and that episode but like I said in the video it NEEDED to be a two part episode. It's set up and execution was too quick to be as effective as it should have been.
      I have wanted to read the Tarzan books as well to see the other stories. But honestly, I probably wont hahaha.
      I wish this show continues as well and going to London would have been a great set of episodes and would have expanded him and the world a whole lot more. It's sad we'll never see this, stupid Disney! They won't continue it due to their license issues but we can dream.
      Thanks for sharing your ideas! I love reading these and thinking about what could have been 😄

    Underrated and awesome show. I'd say it needs more exposure but it would be useless as long as Disney doesn't provide a legal way to watch it.
    BTW, I too watched it with the russian text.
    If it's the rights holding the show from an official release, do you have
    any idea of when the rights to the original books fall into the public domain? Maybe then the series will be released on Disney+.
    As for your question:
    -Favorite episodes: Gauntlet of Vengeance, The Outbreak, Tublat's revenge and The Leopard Men Rebellion.
    -Favorite villains: Laa and Tublat.
    And to finish my comment, how's your channel THIS underrated.

      It really is an underrated show and it's surprising that no one talks about it. I tried searching UA-cam for reviews but I couldn't find anything. That's not to say it isn't being covered because it's incredibly hard to search for this show.
      Even putting in my exact tags and having (hopefully good, I think it's good SEO...) doesn't even put me in the first page of results. It's really odd. I can find review on the movie and I can even find uploads of the episodes but I can't find reviews or even my own video. I wonder why? So maybe that's why my channel is underrated, can't find it on UA-cam hahaha
      Well Disney themselves are the ones that are prolonging the rights. They are so afraid of Mickey falling into the Public domain that they keep challenging and changing laws to keep him out. And so a lot of older things, even Tarzan, are affected by it. From researching the name "Tarzan" and the characterisation is still in copyright and I would say by extension other unique elements like Laa and Opar and Pelucidar would be the same. As this show pulls from more of the books it probably has much more to deal with.
      I do think the Outbreak is probably the best episode of the series, it's sooooo goood!

      @@Lytane hey, the Tarzan books written by Edgar Rice Burroughs have all become public domain in much of the world, except for Spain (until 2031) and Guatemala (which will wait until 2026). That said, Tarzan as a character is trademarked (with a register) by his creator’s estate, so we can’t use him without the estate’s permission.
      The USA sadly has even less luck, since the last fully written one of them all is Tarzan and the Castaways, which will only become public domain decades later in the USA, on New Year’s Week 2062.

    i agree with all of your points, especially how some of the episodes are in the wrong order. Defo say its worth it. My favourite episode is Tublat's revenge, mainly because Tublat is my favourite villain in the show.
    Tarzan has faced many enemies, animals, man, and dinosaurs, but none of them were apes. Tublat was that ape, and he has a personal grudge against not only Tarzan, but also Kerchak and his family, making this a truly menacing villain. Also he is everything that a gorilla isn't, he is extremely violent and also hinted to be carnivorous. But what also made Tublat stand out was he was one of the few villain Tarzan was willing to actually kill, heck in their true first episode Tarzan intended to have Tublat killed in the storm. the only other times I can think of Tarzan actually willing to go that far was with Hisa, Lar and Count Rokuff. Although Rokuff we never see actually get killed by the Leopards, and Lar returned in spirit form, but Hista was dead and buried.
    Tublat was that recurring antagonist that took me by surprise every time.

    • @Lytane
      @Lytane  Рік тому

      And that's why this series did Tublat a disservice as it's pretty much all of his episodes that are in the wrong order. If they are viewed in the right order then him growing as a threat becomes much better and they make it feel like, can Tarzan outsmart him this time? Only because we all know he will lose in a fight. It's good to see some bad guys that test Tarzan in different ways.
      I'm glad you liked the show, and I hope one day we can watch it in high quality on Disney Plus!

    Absolutely worth it. I was very pleasantly surprised by this series after discovering it just a few days ago. I'm sad there aren't more episodes.
    2things I find quite funny though. 1) So who married Tarzan and Jane? The sea captain (not a thing they can do in real life but popular in fiction ) ? He clearly came back and dropped their stuff back off.
    2) Jane and the Proffessor have clearly been in the jungle for months if not a year or two at this point. They can't build Porter a cabin of his own? He still lives at the camp while Jane and Tarzan get the treehouse. Not a nice way to treat your elders 😆

      You are darn right! This show is fantastic!!!
      I mean they may have gotten illegally married. I don't think they did the paperwork and stuff so I'd say Jane told Tarzan about marriage and how it works and the Professor probably did the ceremony. But I'd say it won't be recognised in a court of law lol
      I think it might partly be due to the professor still doing his experiments so he needs the space and the camp is already set up for that. Plus building him a house from scratch would be hard and stuff, and they might not know how to do it and paying people to do it might be to costly. That being said, I think he should have some better living quarters, he IS old lol

    Do not reply to this comment with swear words I mean it I hate swear words and don’t reply to this comment with a rude reply either. If you don’t like my comment then don’t reply at all. If reality-warping powers were real is change queen La’s fate in return of La from Disney’s Legend of Tarzan. The reason I’m saying this is because she was my favorite villain in the series and I really wish they would have given her more screen time and episodes in the series. I was really disappointed how things turned out in that episode, especially the part where La transferred her spirit into a rat and got captured by Usula and I really think that was unfair. In my opinion, they could have done better. Here’s what should have happened In Return of La. After La takes over Jane’s body, reclaims her staff, and rebuilds Opar, she realizes that she can not stay in Jane’s body. Not just because Jane’s body is weak and useless but Tarzan would kill her and himself due to his love for Jane. So she would travel to a secret magical chamber that’s underneath Opar. La created this chamber many years ago before she enslaved the leopard men, as a way to restore her life in case she was ever killed and was able to make it there in another person’s body. La kept it a secret even from the leopard men. The only way for it to work is by commanding it with La’s magic staff. La would use the magic chamber to create a new faster, stronger, bigger, muscular and more powerful body. She would then tell the chamber to immortalize her new body. She also realizes that if Tarzan takes her staff and destroys it again her new body will be destroyed and she’ll be a spirit again. So she commands the magic chamber to transfer all her magic powers of her staff into her new body along with all the dark magic powers the magic chamber has. The chamber would even give La new abilities as well. Once her new body is created and her staff’s powers along with the chamber’s powers are transferred into it, her staff breaks and turns to dust. Her spirit leaves Jane’s body and goes into her new body. Her spirit and her new body magically fuse into one. La’s life is completely restored. Not only does she have the magic powers of her staff but she also has the abilities of any type of animal that she can use while in her human form. For example leopard speed and jump. She has super strength, super agility and can also turn into a giant. She can even have her body parts turn into animal body parts for example, leopard claws and octopus arm and transform into any full animal as well. She would also have elemental powers that would allow her to shoot any elemental out of her hands and transform her body into any elemental and control any elemental. Her new body would almost look like her old one except bigger, muscular, her hair would be black instead of white and her eyes would be red instead of blue. Tarzan fights La but he is no match for her due to her new powers and abilities. So the episode would end with Tarzan, Jane, and, Usula escaping from her and La trains her new body to prepare for her next encounter with Tarzan and creates statue warriors that are completely under her control. She also uses her magic to create a magical crystal ball that will allow her to see and hear everything in the world including Tarzan. Here’s what she would say before the episode would end. “ Run and hide all you want Tarzan but it will do you no good. For as you can see the queen of Opar is back and more powerful than ever." Also, Renard Dumont would not appear in this episode where he helps La(in Jane's body) get to Opar because I don’t see him well fit to be in this episode, and La while in Jane’s body wouldn’t try to ask Tarzan for help to get to Opar because that would draw too much suspicion for Tarzan. Instead after La (in Jane’s body) realizes she can’t climb up the cliff, she decides to take a different way to Opar and makes it there safely. This is how the episode should have happened and there might be a way to make this real. If Ron Mallett can invent a time machine I’ll go back in time and go to the studio that made the Legend of Tarzan series and show them this idea with my iPad. I’m sure they’ll listen to me and love this idea. For those of you who don’t know who Queen La is in Disney Legend of Tarzan. Here’s a link to a wiki website that can tell you everything about her. disney.fandom.com/wiki/Queen_La

      I'm 100% agreed that they should have changed La's fate, her ending wasn't that great. Maybe they thought they'd get a season 2 to continue things though?
      I think your idea is great, though I don't think Tarzan would kill himself and Jane but find another way to save her (it still works though) Ooooo making her new body fused with animal spirits or something to explain why she has animal abilities on top of her staff would be cool and would be fun to see what she does with it.
      Then we would NEED another episode to follow up on her and her new abilities but given the state of the show in limbo its sad we wouldn't get that.
