I must say that the road trips through the small towns are among my favourite episodes. You get to find amazing, less well known sights. I enjoyed the episode very much, and look forward to more great things along this great river.
This is my favorite Carpetbagger series so far. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I will never get tired of dam puns. Dam puns are some of the best.
You're dam right.
Those dam puns are hilarious!
You are dam right
Just somehow never grows old 😂
I love how all traffic stops just so you can get a selfie with the giant beer cans
That was neat 😊
My mom always asks.. where’s Jacob today?… ha! Teaching her how to push buttons.. 😂
Tried water skiing one time so I can officially Thank Ralph Samuelson for the worse water enema I have ever had .. hurt so bad , I couldnt sit normal for a few days ..never again Ralph...never again did I fall for that sport.
Good Morning " YA ALL " Jacob the Carpbagger ..!!
Hi Jacob I'm juanita from California I just saw your video with you and your daughter Anna she's pretty
And I like your videos your very informative
Thanks for showing us this beautiful location. What a lovely place to be! Interesting facts about the founding of the sport of water skiing too.
When my dad got out of the Navy at the end of WWII he began work swopping oil out of transformers for the local electric company (he later studied and became a field engineer there) and he wore RedWing workboots because they were so well made and lasted the longest.
This was a fun day. Thanks, Jacob ❤
Thank you for visiting La Crosse. We love our hometown. Stop by anytime.
I began watching your channel during lockdown as a way to cure boredom, and I love that you’re taking us on a new road trip! I’m not as familiar with this area of the US. So I’m learning along with you. I loved seeing the Judy Garland museum. I live in a very plain and desert dry area of Colorado called Alamosa, so this is how I can see more interesting places right from the comfort of my home. Thank you again
Riding in the back seat on a new road trip with Papa Jacob, always fun. Stay safe out there, looking forward to the trip.
Good Evening Jacob 🙋🏽 I hope your day was filled with joy and peace. Have a wonderful weekend ‼️💖
Oh my !!!! The grotto was so impressive ❤ thanks for sharing this with us Jacob ....safe travels ✌️❤️🙏
I'm so curious: When you're on road trips like this, how much research do you do (like the night before) to find cool stuff to visit, and how much do you allow yourself to just stumble upon cool places?
I like to make sure I have enough stuff to film, but I love finding stuff spontaneously
@@TheCarpetbagger The perfect combo! I guessed it was something like that. It's why I love your road trips so much. Stay safe on that long, lonesome road!
Jacob.. you dug up my childhood memories of seeing The Grotto. Thanks!
Hey carpetbagger love your videos you’ve inspired me I’m about to go into my first museum
Loving the trip so far thanks for taking us along
Awesome video Jacob I never realized how wide the mighty Mo really is Thank you!
Excellent video, Jacob. I would love to do something like that one day. Safe travels, my friend, and take care as always.
Kudos to your UA-cam Channel, Jacob! 👍👍👍👍
The grotto was incredible thank you so much for taking us on an adventure on the river road trip. Thank you Jacob.
That grotto was absolutely beautiful. I would love to walk through there on a beautiful summers day. ❤
Dude yes ! ❤ love you Jacob breakfast with carpetbagger amazing adventure today ❤
OMG that grotto made entirely of rocks and stones is absolutely gorgeous! Would LOVE to visit it.
This has already been an amazing trip. Looking forward to each and every video in this series!
Thanks for taking us along on the road trip.
The world's largest six pack put a smile on my face. Growing up in northern Illinois, I had my first taste of Old Style at the age of twelve, pilfered from the neighborhood Fourth of July block party. If you're in the mood for something supernatural, Alton Illinois is one of the most haunted cities in the US. McPike mansion is a particular hot spot.
Thanks You 😊 for showing "Adventures on Old Man River".
This Mississippi River journey is nice 👍
Footage from your new camera looks great! A beautiful day! Loved the Castlerock Museum.
I appreciate it
Great choice on the dji, video quality has never been better for you
This has been an excellent trip so far. Really enjoying new camera/microphone.
Wow, that Grotto is breathtakingly beautiful! ❤
Thank you, Jacob, for another awesome video tour of the Mighty Mississippi!
This is one very ambitious trip!
The Grotto is beautiful!
Thanks for taking us on your road trips
Also, you found the birthplace of water skiing in Lake City Minnesota. Just on the other side of the lake is Pepin Wisconsin which is the birthplace of Laura Ingalls Wilder. There's a museum and birth home to check out next time you're in the area.
Jacob, the medieval helmet near the mustache helmet, looked like a Sleestak from Land of The Lost lol.
The Dickeyville Grotto is ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS n it should be considered among the Wonders of the World!!! When we were kids we used to make art projects with stones n shells n rocks n glass pieces n to have formed all these MOST EXCELLENT grottos n shrines in such exquisite detail is phenomenal!!! Thank you for showcasing The Grotto for us!!!! Wonderful video!!!
Thank you for visiting my home town of La Crosse and surrounding areas, you did a wonderful job representing the area.
Thank you for visiting my neck of the woods I'm waving hi right now. 😀👋🌟
Loving the Great River Road Trip, as someone who grew up in Northern Iowa and lived in Chicago for nearly a decade - that giant Old Style 6-pack is a thing of beauty!
I remember the adults drinking old style when I was little
another great adventure especially the ''grotto rock'' loved that Jacob.i just loved all the exzibits it offered. keep rolling along on that ''long lonesome highway'' & the Mississippi River. But """be safe in your travels"". waiting for the next adventure.
I learned to water ski in the 70;s on the Mississippi with friends who lived in Clarksville Missouri, on the river, Lots of fun.
Love it when Wisconsin is represented. I, myself have been to a lot of those stops in WI. Thank you for doing you. Keep up the fun and be safe
Lots of cool places, I especially enjoyed the Castlerock Museum and the Grotto. The Grotto must have taken a lot of time to create piece by piece.
That grotto looked familiar, then i realised Adam the woo was there a few weeks ago. Loving this trip so far 😊.
A small harbor tugboat that pushes a barge can burn 100-200 gallons of diesel fuel per hour in rivers and around harbors. Ocean going tugs can burn 3,000-5,000 gallons per hour. Tugboat diesel engines typically produce 500-2,500 kW (~ 680-3,400 hp), but larger boats (used in deep waters) can have power ratings up to 20,000 kW (~ 27,200 hp).
A U.S. National Waterways Foundation report shows that barges can move a ton of cargo 647 miles with a single gallon of fuel, compared to trains at 477 miles per gallon, and trucks at 145 miles per gallon.
The Mississippi River actually dried up in some parts, I think it has now recovered. Awesome trip Jacob
Must say sir well done!
We have to work on the Wisconsin way of pronouncing two of the town names. All in all very well put together and am happy you were in my neck of the woods!
That grotto was amazing. I hope it doesn't get destroyed by vandals.
Happy Saturday morning,
Poulsbo Washington ! Jacob
Beautiful town
So that long toothy fish with the green back and the bright fins is a Northern Pike. They're another common fish up in that region. We used to fish for them in Alaska, too. They're delicious but have a ton of bones.
Awesome day thanks for sharing your time with us love the largest boot just amazing you find the most wonderful things 💞💞💞
That was neat 😊
I would recommend the Rock Island Arsenal Museum (Illinois) and the John Deere Pavilion. Both are free and interesting. At Rock Island you can also visit the Mississippi River Visitor Center and see Locks & Dam 15.
Fantastic trip..
Good morning 🌞 Carpet Bagger. Thank you for another great and interesting video! I watch your videos daily and I never get tired of them! Keep up the great work! I look forward to your videos daily!
Thanks for showing the worlds largest six pack. Whenever I am in the Midwest area of the country I like to drink the local or regional beers of the area. Hellman’s Old Style is one of my favorite beers. I look forward to seeing the other roadside attractions you will find on this trip.
Definitely enjoy seeing the smalls towns but be cool to see more of the towns showing the old stores and such and not just the unusual and museums though that arms museum was great 😅.
Fun Fact: The Rock in the House had another boulder that went into a house on that same spot in 1901.
I love all these little towns that you're taking us to❤
Such an enjoyable video, you show such unique and interesting things and beautiful scenery. Loved the birds tweeting at that amazing grotto.
I enjoy all of Your videos but I think these road trips are my favorite thing You do 🌟❣️🤩 I love all the small towns and interesting little museums and roadside attractions 💖😻 The Grotto was my favorite thing today but I also liked the biggest boot 🥾😸 As always, Thank You for bringing Us along with You Jacob 🙏💝😻♾️
@TheCarpetbagger Jacob, THANK YOU for stopping in Lake City. Sorry I missed you, I was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for Medical appointments, otherwise I would have liked to have met you. Also, when you were in Wabasha, you missed "Slippery's" which pays homage to the 2 "Grumpy Ol' Men" movies that were filmed in the area.
My ears pearked up when he said Lake City. There's a Lake City Michigan, about 15 miles from me
Such a cool trip dude!
There are Bull sharks in that water...yes, the same bull sharks that are in the ocean do indeed swim up the Mississippi. Not sure they make it that far north but it was just a fun fact you might enjoy
I'm enjoying your river road travel. When you get to Iowa, check Dubuque IA. There's also Galena IL
Big fan of your show and the Rage Against The Car Rental episode. I just got ripped off by Hertz for $1028 Canadian and trying to fight the system. Extra fees and hidden crap I did not want or need.
I'm glad you got to visit the Castlerock Museum, definitely a unique attraction in WI. Also The Rock in the House I'm glad you went there, it's great to see what's happening there, I hope it becomes a Bed and Breakfast, that would be cool! The Rock INN the House is what I would call it.
I’d love to stay there if that’s what they are doing
Thank you for the video Jacob! I enjoy getting to see the backroads of this country. Beautiful Church at the end. Safe travels
So much cool stuff along the Mississippi River 😮
Great video Jacob 😊
When you get to New Orleans, LA, get some fresh beignets from Cafe Du Monde. My family and I went there 2 years ago and they’re so delicious. Can’t wait for more adventures Jacob! 😁😁
There's a ww2 museum there that's awesome
@@mollysmith1226 We were about to go there, but it was closed.
@bg199083 oh that's a bummer
Awesome video as always, really enjoying this MS River series. I think i saw the grotto in a recent Adam The Woo video and it was nice to see it again. That grotto is beautiful with such intricate details, such a treasure and you captured it very well here. Can imagine it around around Christmas time with lights
I also liked you stoping in Red Wing. I was a competitive figure skater and my boots were made in Red Wing but not by the Red Wing boot company. The skate boot company is called Riedell who make boots for both ice and roller skating. I used their boots from when I started skating till I won a bronze medal in the Eastern United States competition.
The Redwing museum, really, that’s awesome! I get my work boots from there.
These are the types of videos that got us hooked. And inspired some of our own trips.
So I've got a suggestion.
The longest lonesome road.
The Pan-American Highway. From Alaska to Argentina.
What sights are on THAT road?
My mother's people are from a Mississippi river town - Ft Madison, IA - home of Old Fort Madison, the Iowa State Penitentiary (oldest state pen west of the Mississippi), has a famous train station from 1910, a long-standing rodeo, and the Schaffer Pen Museum. If you go, stop in the shop at the train station and if the older gentleman is working that day, ask him to tell you a Gene Autry (the singing cowboy) story.
Amazing that they wore armor, so heavy, but so safe. Now people in war have nothing but a helmet.
36:43 I have dreams of seeing things like this grotto
Castlerock museum was cool. Interesting to see Lincoln, Christopher Columbus, George Washington and Jesus together on the grotto. I don't drink anymore but I kinda want to try and Old Style beer at the Twin Bluff bar one day. Maybe get a Twin Bluff Bar t-shirt.
I live for your sense of humor. Great channel and journey thus far too. Just subbed to you.
Glad you were able to visit my hometown of Red Wing! You should really go back one day as there is more that I think you’d like to explore. I’d be happy to make some recommendations.
"I don't know if my body could handle the amount of weed i would need to smoke to enter a f-ing shozeum."
Can anyone name that stand up quote?😂😂😂
The Marijuana Logues
Good morning Jacob thank you
The Grottois a beautiful mosaic.
Hi Jacob you are on a role my friend this Is a really Interesting trip...So many things to see and do... !!!! Keep well and safe Matey XXXX
Thanks for letting me see somewhere I'll prolly never get to see in person. I appreciate it. It's very interesting. Please don't be too hard on Christopher Columbus.
A sign for no climbing on the boot. Was there a sign that said you couldn't jump into the boot? 🤣
Good technicaity
Fun video
I didn't hear worlds largest boot museum. I got excited on what I would see with his new camera.
you should go into some of those bars and let a local tell a local story in your videos. would be hilarious
Oh my gosh Jacob! Yesterday I mentioned you got my place of work on camera and today you got my brother's! He's an executive at Red Wing Shoe Company! Weird! 😅
Weird
Thanks for visiting Minnesota!!!!! Wanna see where you are next.. Iaea here I come.. have a safe trip
Oops iawa
Try to get reservations on the historic steamboat Natchez in New Orleans. It is worth the 2-hour tour on the river. Also, I did Memphis and it was ok, but I think St Louis riverboat cruise would be better.
I'm going to look into that in New Orleans. My husband and I are visiting in October
I heard that Budweiser was the king of Beer!
No, Gambrinus
"high renaissance" yes, those blacksmiths had to be on something when making some of those
Oh if u come through the quad cities we have the channel cat and it takes u up and down the river for a day of eating and shopping if u enjoy that ☺️
