Assessing battery placement and size is never easy with micro dot sights as there is next to no space to play with for internals. The factors to put into play are: Overall battery life / profile size / ease of accessibility. For a micro dot like our Sentinel II, intended for serious defensive and EDC use, we made the decision to go for the bottom loaded to fit a larger 2032 battery for maximized battery life as well as maintaining the lowest and slimmest profile possible for concealability and co witness capabilities. We understand taking a few minutes at the range every year or so to change the battery and ensure you are still holding zero can be a pain, but keeping the battery life extended was our top priority for this specific product.

Man thats a shame. Love your optics but bottom load is not the answer. Having to rezero every time is a huge negative. Youll sell them for sure. People need to know the hassle of rezero every 50,000 hours. And most shooters will do it in significantly less hours to avoid any chance of dead bat.

I understand but personally I’m changing out my batteries way before I get even close to the battery life ending. Therefore I’d rather have a smaller 1632 that I can change without losing my zero. Therefore unfortunately I’ll continue to use competitors for this application. That being said your rmr style optics with a top loading battery are phenomenal and I’ll continue to be a customer there. I think a lot of people share my opinion but maybe people don’t. Either way I hope in the future you design an optic in this same format that is not bottom loading.

Also for me re zeroing is a pain but potentially stripping screws when taking the optic on and off is more of a concern for me.

Stating your guys thought process means a lot! Makes sense to me, and stocking 2032s makes it simpler too. A slight inconvenience that's overcome w a minute at the range is absolutely worth a performance jump.

From someone who has owned multiple Swampfox optics and likes the quality and pricing, it needs two things to be truly competitive: side/top loading battery, and an optional framing reticle (circle/cross/whatever) for those people that want, or need because some of our eyes are worn out, a larger focal point.

I have the original Sentinel and the only time I have to zero it is when I replace the battery. I have no problem cleaning it attached to the gun. I see alotmof the same concerns and thoughts and figured would share this.
Though I understand that its not technically the RMRc footprint and honestly something I might compare because of options but SF released a blog post a day early (24 Nov 2023) and they have a Liberty & Justice 2.0 coming out. The sight window on the S2 is 20mm L2 25mm, the width is something like a tenth of an inch wider, but its top loading battery has multiple reticles options so unless you use a true micro platform with narrow slide or one that is made only for RMRc's you might want to wait.
I don't want to sound like a fan boy nor cheap person but honestly for the small gripes something may have SF makes it up in Quality, Cost, Customer Service and numerous other things. I will agree with most bottom loading isn't prefered but battery should have longer life(though I change mine more often) also even though I do belong to a club as well go to indoor ranges & I do train/practice for competition, its not a huge deal for me and maybe instead of it being a daunting task or looking negative look at it as a reason to get in range time.

@@charlesbeall2589 I recently picked up the 2nd Gen Sentinel & Liberty and very impressed with them they seem beefier. Definitely an upgrade I wanted to get a Justice bc I was using a Liberty on my comp gun and wanted to try the bigger window but the second Gen Justice's went from 3moa dot to a 6moa which doesn't work for me but I was able to source a 1st gen through Optic Planet (not to sound cheap but normally buy directly from SF bc of military/public safety discount but found prices pretty comparable bc OP offers discounts or where their normal prices are plus discount very close to getting from SF) but probably a me thing I am so used to the smaller window I actually swapped it out for the 2nd Gen Liberty it has a 2mm bigger window & that was another part of upgrades besides them just feeling like more heavy duty(not that it was an issue before but like the thicker housing) they also increased the window size on most.
The only issue I had with SF & I can see it from their pov & mine but sent a longer email as I had few questions and did get a reply to the effect of they prefer short emails which I get but at times for me I try to be as detailed as possible with intent to get the correct information.
I will say again I think more of a me problem but sometimes I am hesitant buying things blindly in the sense of unless you know someone with one you have to buy it and see if it works for your needs & if not do the return process vs alot of other optics I can find out n about but like I mentioned I have been happy with what I bought so far though I am thinking about getting a Halosun & trying it on my comp gun and do a comparison of them.

Is it high enough to clear the slide on those that are milled deeply like the Canik MC9? … Maybe I am a lemming. For me, the bottom loading battery is a blessing to give me an “excuse” to go to the range an additional time, once a year. The side load tray argument holds up for always on auto adjust optics, which this is not.
