Oh my goodness! I did a double take when I read the title! I can't believe you got Doug Wilson! Now you've gotta get Jeff Durbin. Can't wait to listen to this!
Following up after watching - Kyle this was great! When you do manage to get Doug back for a follow-up interview focused on Future Men, you should also get his take on anything C.S. Lewis and he'd be a great candidate to bring up some of your... I don't want to call it objections because I think that's too strong a word, but I'll go with "misgivings" on Calvinism. Not saying that Doug will be the silver bullet to put your objections to rest, but I'm curious as to how he would tackle the questions you've got.
I had the same reaction, cant wait to hear this interview. I'm not a fan of Doug's but i always like hearing people who are different than me. Way to go Kyle!
Every podcaster eventually gets Doug on their podcast. He goes from podcast to podcast. Can't escape him. Don't know how he finds the time to prepare his Sunday sermons.
Great discussion. Doug Wilson has been used by the Lord to help many people find their courage and voice these last few years. So many blessings have come out of the tyrannical virus era, and among them is the church has discovered its true identity and mission. Thanks Doug for your service to the King and His kingdom.
@23m30s - The best line in the interview… “The tragedy is a lot of Christian pastors went along with that… Rendering unto Ceasar that which is God’s.” 🔥🔥🔥
It’s a shame that we’re having to fight on two fronts…resisting the culture is a worthy fight that would be so much easier if we didn’t have to fight our own (weak) brothers who have capitulated to Caesar…
“They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.” {John 16:2} Keep the separation of Church and State, for when that wall is fallen, then we will make an image to the beast.
Yes. Our founding fathers understood that no government can exist without appealing to the creator of nature and to providence. The declaration of Independence is the foundational document of the United States of america. We have had two national governments in these United states. The first was the articles of confederation and the second was and is our constitution. Both gave wide birth to individual liberty. But they understood that Liberty to not be licensed but to be in accordance with the idea that we will, every one of us, give an account of our lives to our creator. The idea that, we have a circle of Liberty around us given to us by our creator but that does not give us the authority to trespass upon another's circle of liberty. That is Alexis to toquefil who said that. And that all the government is supposed to do is support the idea that individuals will live their lives honorably and will not trespass upon the god-given rights of others. When they do that is when government can come in and set things straight because pulled the proverbial sword.
I'm a big fan of Doug wilson. My family even laughs at me and calls him my friend from idaho. But I've just would like to raise the point that Joel Osteen is John osteen's son. I would also like to point out that that Houston church has a discipleship Network that extends through over half state of texas. That is where Church happens. That is where in living rooms throughout the state people are meeting with their neighbors and reading God's word and dealing with problems in their lives and building and walking on foundation Jesus christ. Perhaps there might be a little more thought into what that church does. I'm kind of disappointed that Doug brought up Joel Osteen by name. His philosophy is in John 3. Jesus said I have not come to condemn the world. Everyone wants Joel Osteen to condemn the world. What Joel Osteen does is present the light. He presents a life as it could be and should be as we walk in faith with expectation even though our world may be crumbling around our ears we still look to the god of heaven and cry out to him. Light has come into the world and Joel Osteen preaches that every single week. What most people see regarding Joel Osteen is a 30-minute clip that is edited for television. Remember, we are fishers of Men and when you put the bait out front you want to entice the fish in. Jesus said make disciples and then baptized that. Many people will come to church taste see and they'll walk away.
Kyle, after the interview, you were providing links to various sites…you mentioned Doug’s ‘Blog & Mablog’ and pronounced Mablog with a short ‘a’ sound…it’s a long ‘a’ sound…you then said “whatever that is”…it’s a play on Gog and Magog…
re: Classical Liberalism. In its purest form, it subscribes to the idea of what's called a "night watchman" state apparatus. ”Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up? Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?” ”Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”“ Daniel 3:16-18 NKJV They did not say, “Even if He doesn’t”, meaning even if we’re not delivered, we won’t bow (in fact, they said, “He is able..AND HE WILL DELIVER US”). If they weren’t delivered, they wouldn’t have a chance to “not bow”. They would be dead….What they meant was, ”If that is the case (meaning, if your threats are true), our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.“ ”But if not (meaning, if your threats are not true, but are merely idle threats), let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.” They KNEW they would be delivered!!
@11:37 I will never forget Matt Maher singing "Oh sacred neck now wounded" basically parodying the hymn "Oh sacred head now wounded" to make it about George Floyd. Not wise.
14:24 Doug said, "America was founded by Christians at the Constitutional Convention." WRONG! America was not founded by a piece of paper. In the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution combined, the word nation is only used 3x in reference to foreign nations and not America. The Constitution only established the state. The United States is merely a legal system of governance with limited powers to regulate the relationship between the states and foreign governments. America and the United States are two different things. The United States is not a Christian nation because it is not a nation. America, on the other hand, is a Christian nation because it is an ethnos. An ethnos is people living in the same land with shared ancestry, language, religion, manners and custom. America began when the pilgrims first stepped off the Mayflower and dedicated this land to Jesus Christ and the spreading of the gospel. The only thing these documents are capable of doing is recognizing the nation that already existed. This is how we recognize the Indian tribes as nations; there was no document defining their identity until the English came along and recognized them for what they were. The implication and error of Doug and many others defining America this way is that it makes America into a mere creed rather than an ethnos. America is not a creed. Only the state is. The 1828 Webster's dictionary defined Americans as "descendants of Europeans born in America." There is nothing about having to accept a creed to become an American. Becoming an American as a birthright through ancestry. An American is an ethnic and racial term and not an ideology.
Yikes. My American ancestry goes back to at least 1800. My greats were from England, Scotland, Ireland the Netherlands, North America and ( likely) another continent. We are fully American without being in any way ' pureblood'. As an aside, if you think Irish and English are in ANY WAY brothers, you need to read a book.

23:15 "kiss my Irish butt." This guy is obviously an American by his accent, so why does he call himself Irish? I'll tell you why, he's appealing to genetics and ancestry. I have no problem with that, but this kind of talk, which I've heard many people do, reveals the fact that they care about their bloodline. There are now Africans living in Ireland claiming to be Irish - do you think he's identifying with them?
