  • John is joined by mathematician, bioethicist and Christian apologist Professor John Lennox for a profound conversation centered on the current and future impacts of artificial intelligence technology. They discuss the shortcomings of science in the search for universal truth, the factors behind rising secularism in the West, China’s rapid AI implementation, our growing desire for immortality through biomedicine and the true meaning of 'faith’.
John Lennox is Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, author, Christian apologist, bioethicist and philosopher. He has written many highly-regarded books on religion, ethics and the relationship between science and faith.
In 2020, Lennox published 2084 - Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humanity, which covers key developments in technological enhancement, bioengineering and AI. In the book, he discusses the current state of AI - its benefits, dangers and future implications.
Over the past 15 years, Lennox has been part of numerous public debates defending the Christian faith, including debates with Christopher Hitchens, Michael Shermer and Richard Dawkins.

In reality everything is much simpler.
At the beginning people told each other that extraterrestrials
used a simple, invisible technical device, called Generator Of
Dimensions (GOD) to create our universe!
They knew well that nothing from this earth could have created this
earth and nothing from this universe could have created this universe.
But then, over time, this device mistakenly became a god in
a prozess what is known as Model Autophagy Disorder (MAD).
Now all people believe that this device, used by the aliens to
create universes, is a god and worship this device. This can
      definitely be described as crazy.

The only thing I’m a little surprised about, and maybe I’m wrong, in that these two men know more than what they act like they do. But I guess I haven’t given it enough thought yet, to know what they should say, or not say if they did know what many of us already know. That doesn’t take much of any faith, because we’ve already had enough evidence to know for a fact that physical death is only a transitional phase before entering the spiritual realm. And Jesus confirmed this in his conversation with Martha, when he asked her if she truly believed what he claimed, before raising her brother who had physically died, but had not spiritually died, and who ever believed in him, would never die. Because they’re not just asleep, awaiting the resurrection on the last day, but are also very much consciously aware. And those who know that, aren’t troubled by secular transhumanism.

During lockdown, John Lennox gave us an hour of his time to speak on science and God and to answer student questions. He was warm, clear and engaging for the full hour. When our time ended, he said goodbye and had to leave straight away, because he was about to do another session for a campus group in another part of the world. But this time, he told us, he’d be speaking in Spanish!! Such a brilliant mind, and a wonderful man of God.

@@AtamMardes Hi atam, I'll do my best. I see hypocrisy, narcissism, ignorance and arrogance everywhere, including (sadly) in myself. But I'm not sure that choosing to eat meat is evidence of those things. I suppose that might be the case if my worldview was that human beings are just another animal. But that's not what I believe. In the Christian worldview, humans are made by a purposeful designer and creator, and we're the only creatures made "in the image of God". We're given authority and responsibility to rule over the world that God has given us (though God is still ultimately in charge), which includes being allowed to eat meat. Jesus himself affirmed that it's okay for people to eat meat. That may not be your worldview, but I hope it at least helps to understand why it's not hypocritical for a Christian to receive meat as a gift from God, given to sustain our bodies (and to enjoy!). Now excuse me while I go finish cooking my chicken dinner ...

      @AtamMardes Рік тому +19

@@geoffrobson23 Hi, I eat meat myself.. Eating meat is normal in an evolutionary process. Please don't get confused; I'm not blaming anyone for eating meat. • @geoffrobson23
      @geoffrobson23 Рік тому +21

@@AtamMardes I didn’t assume you were vegetarian. And I can see why eating meat is considered normal within an evolutionary worldview. But it’s also normal and reasonable within a Christian worldview. You may not agree that humans are uniquely made in God’s image, or that one of the ways God sustains our lives is through the provision of food (including meat), but you should be able to acknowledge that it’s internally coherent (i.e. not hypocritical and arrogant) as a practice. It’s certainly a strange way to try to dismiss and attack the Christian worldview. Also, I think you’re being a bit too generous to yourself to claim that you’re “not blaming anyone” but then in the very next sentence to make the accusation of “hypocrisy, narcissism, ignorance and arrogance” - sounds a lot like blame to me! Anyway, thanks for the chat.

@hlatse98 He is indeed a delightful, insightful brother in Christ. I advise you, though, that Jesus is not yet the King, as there is no kingdom. It was rejected by the Jews during His earthly life. It was put on hold until He returns, and takes the throne of His father David. Then, and only then, will there be a kingdom....first, a Millenial kingdom, and then, an eternal Kingdom. Our theology must be accurate, or it will confuse growing believers.

In an earlier post, I argued that the historicity of Jesus was doubtful. Some religion scholars questioned one of my sources. Now, new scholarship comes as close as possible to settling the issue.
Personally, I have no ax to grind so far as the historical existence of Jesus is concerned. If anything, I would prefer to believe that the life of Jesus, painstakingly learned in childhood, was connected to history rather than a fiction.
Unfortunately, much of what one reads on this question is biased whether by religion scholars, and religious believers, who promote the historical Jesus, or atheist writers intent on debunking him.
Richard Carrier's 600-page, note-filled tome, On the Historicity of Jesus (1) belongs in the second camp but it poses a challenge that academic proponents of the historical Jesus seem unlikely to overcome (2).

@Steven Boy Humanity has accepted Jehovah as being the supposed "God" of this world for over 1600 years, and as the Dark Ages and other bits of history showcase, thinking that its just humanity as a whole and nothing to do with how tyrannical the churches were and still are with the help of the politicians on both sides around the world that they are aligned with is getting a bit tiring.
Looks like those two boneheads up on top will always compensate for the fact that their politicians are absolute insects. Call out the modern world for how it works but never acknowledge how their own political allies enforced the destruction of the countries both economically and culturally, cough cough Scomo cough.

name one thing god brought to the table? according to your religion the fall brought all kinds of punishments in the form of disease, who is curing those diseases? cos it's weird that god isn't responsible for inflicting the disease but gets the credit for curing - punishments HE inflicted on us, don't you find that weird that we're eradicating god's punishment?

Same for the rest of the world.
For it is with great sadness that human history is otherwise stuck in the ongoing battle of shortsidedness that knowledge is raised up in the place of Wisdom.
One has spoken through inspiration of the Prophets in the words as recorded in Hosea 4:6
      - My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
      and further in Proverbs 2:6
      - For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and
      understanding.
      And in Proverbs 1:7
      - The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
      And in Proverbs 18:15
      - The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out.
And lastly, Jesus spoke these words in response to the source of the many sirens' calls of This world, then and now, in the words as recorded in Matthew 4:4
      - But he answered and said,
It is Written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
      Otherwise, Proverbs 15:14 forewarns us
      - The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.
Science without Philosophy is prone to be foolhardy.
Philosophy: the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence.
His Peace be with you. 🙏
