Hey guys! You might be asking yourself this question: "I wonder if we'll see JB do a review of the new CPL24?". The answer: not at this time. I almost pulled the trigger on a Mirror CPL24 but ultimately refrained. IMHO I don't see enough of a difference from my Phoenix to jump in. The fabric and back panel look awesome but I like what they did with the color and fabric on the Phoenix. -JB UPDATE: 🤦🏼♂️ I caved. Ordered a CPL24 Mirror. Looking forward to checking out the materials and utility of the “lefty” 😜
Likewise, I often carry my bag in the passenger seat next to me and the mirror will allow me to access it without having to face the bag rearward or twist it around.
My favorite point you made during this review: Packs that aren't comfortable when they are fully packed out. Top priority for me when it comes to choosing a bag for a specific task or trip. Thanks for the video!
Nice! Yeah, sometimes it tough to get the bags to that point but man did that Axiom disappoint on my back. I'll try to get more of them overfilled in the future to compare going forward. I was really happy to the way this bag felt when overloaded.
Looking forward to Evergoods new release. Great looking collab bag (even though I don’t own one). I love Evergoods passion and ethos. The frame sheets of Evergoods (not collab) CPLV224 and CHZ22 were killers for my back, bruised me, bowed (there have been some videos on fix) unless packed out. I heard no sound on straps, not a reason for me to not buy. Still can’t get shoulders to wrap. Hope they add new back to all their bags or I should buy stock in Advil. P.S. I own 10L packing cube. It’s a goodie. Would love it more if it compressed. And…I had the most extraordinary conversation with GORUCK when I missed a return date (very good reason but they still could have denied me). It made my day. They definitely have my back.
That's awesome...isn't good customer service hard to come by these days? When you find it you totally appreciate it! After looking at the new CPL24 I think I'll pass...this Phoenix is just too good.
@@JBOutside1 I can name only a handful of companies that have reps that respond as this woman did (Emily, you rock)...I don't have a Phoenix (super jealous) and am in desperate need of an Evergoods CPL24V2 bag with the new back. My back won't wear the other one. Let's see if this one does the trick. Always love your reviews.
Great Video! I love the Phoenix and I agree that using the laptop compartment does not impact the comfort at all, unlike many others bags, which is great. I know you are a big fan of GORUCK and I like them too, but they are the most uncomfortable bags out of every bag I own when the laptop compartment is used. I actually think they are worse than the Axiom which I love for the right use case.
Thanks for sharing! Not sure I totally agree though. I've used GR1s and 2s for a while and during travel they always have an iPad or laptop. Since that pocket is behind the frame sheet I think it's pretty good...FLAT, but pretty good. I didn't have a good experience with the Axiom because of the raised padding, but maybe I just had it TOO full? Either way, thanks for the comment.
@@JBOutside1 I think it might be because on the GR it kind of changes the way the bag fits on your back and pulls it tighter if that makes sense. When I don't use the laptop compartment I have found them to be very comfortable even completely loaded out.
The cpl bag is the most comfortable bag ive used hands down. The curve straps with the curve top...... finally a bag that doesnt pull away on my shoulders snd disappears when on my back.
@@JBOutside1 when is that uppppppp??? I just got cpl too 👀, still in return time frame, waiting for more black griffin vids to come up to debate that between the regular version. Waiting because that griffin is not returnable lol. But the regular one is killer edc, wish it was a little smaller but design is awesome.
Another great video. GoRuck + Patagonia = Evergoods. I was a GoRuck Fan boy, but so impressed with my Evergoods bags. They’re everything I wish my GR’s were.
@@JBOutside1 you would prob get top dollar. I’ve seen them on eBay for $500 to $15k for the solid orange one. Crazy. I like my mine and will more than likely keep it just for the xpac and special addition. I got the 24, but was wondering now if I should have got the 28 since I have the 24l Phoenix. Have a good one.
This is a great video as always. But a dangerous wormhole to travel through. Just when I thought my GR1 21L was the bomb. Poof, I found myself with a Mystery Ranch/Huckberry Urban 21 L Collab in 1000d. And that happened because I previously got an UPSCALE Urban Assault Day pack 500d on a trade for a LBT 14L day pack. I was looking for more info on the pack. Competition is great but you'll need more wall space. Love the Evergoods/Carryology. Keep up the great work on the videos.
I’m excited to see what the v3 looks like too! My current favorite all-time is the GR1 Heritage 21L in Dark Oak…but I’m always on the lookout for challengers.
The outtakes have been there forever...now you have a reason to go back and re-watch others! haha. I was kind of in the same place. I liked it but it wasn't jumping out at me...hence the delay in the review. But after I used it for a few days I really started to like it.
I just cannot realize what made them not pack it with those velcro- or elastic tapes to stop strap endings from dangling. The backpack looks so thought-out and this...
Hey JB. Thanks for these reviews. Two pieces of feedback that might boost your subscriber count/views: 1. Tune out the uptalking (up talking?) in your tone. In your instance, it almost feels like you could tack on the words "… but whatever-who really cares anyway" to the end of most sentences. While in reality, it's clear that you *do* care and *do* have an opinion. Otherwise, you wouldn't be recording these videos! 2. Toss in a smile here and there. I know that might not be your style… but… a genuine smile-even at just the start of your videos-will go a *long* way to evoke like-ability. Hope these help.
@@JBOutside1 Thanks for the reply and thanks for considering! Should have mentioned that there are a bunch of videos out there on uptalking, and it's a common quirk. (I do it too when teaching. It's like a spoken run-on sentence.)
Would you still prefer this over the regular cpl24 if money wasn’t a problem? Also do you have any idea what material that back panel is, I’m trying to upgrade from a GR1 that does nothing but pill my cotton t shirts lol
This is a great question and it varies. In this mode I had a Nalgene bottle clipped to the outside during my trip. There wasn’t room to carry one internally. The Able Carry Max had the advantage for a bottle.
You sound like you can do a damn good Officer dangle impersonation “Just new boot goofin” Please review some good work boots and do the new boot goofin bit
lol, you have a thing for putting out reviews on bags that aren't for sale anymore. it's all good, I'll still watch your videos. just a little disappointed.
I hear you. Still available and plenty of people are selling them second hand in great condition. The CPL24v3 released today is 98% identical to the Phoenix, plus they made a mirror version if the opening on the Phoenix doesn't work for you. Thanks for watching...I promise to make some reviews on available bags!

AER city pack backpack has one of the best top pockets I have ever seen. Fits my Gloc 43 perfectly.
Being completely honest, none of the AER stuff ever speaks to me. Just me though.

Coming soon! ...like next week!
I think this is still the best version of the CLP24 imo. Even though it gives off the usual Halloween vibes that Carryology collabs usually do.
I agree on all points! But then again I like the orange. I really like the new CPL mirror option but the Phoenix still wins.
@@JBOutside1 The only thing it's missing is that nice new back panel that's on the V3. Although that's not a deal breaker for me personally.

Hello JB! Great review! Does this bag dig into your lower back?
I haven’t had any problems with this one. Fits very well and it’s a great one.
If you've seen it, what are your thoughts on the second Pheonix? The CTB26.
Just got it today. Packed it immediately and took it on a trip! More to follow…
Brother what is this clip on the handle of the bag? Can you please tell me the name!?
It’s a “Hero Clip”
Would you prefer the GR2 26L over the GR1 21L as as an everyday carry backpack? I am 174cm.
depend on how much you’re carrying. if it all fits in a GR1 then that.
Would you still prefer this over the regular cpl24 if money wasn’t a problem? Also do you have any idea what material that back panel is, I’m trying to upgrade from a GR1 that does nothing but pill my cotton t shirts lol
I still prefer the Phoenix. The new CPL24 is very nice but it’s no Phoenix IMHO. I think the back panel is 500D.
Question, you may have Mentioned this and I missed it. Do you just never carry a water bottle? If you do, what do you do with it?
