It's a really cool device! I will say the scribe is generally one of the better devices solely for e-reading with the frontlight. I found the PDF annotation to be generally pretty good on it too. The Nomad is quite solid too though, I'd say it really is a matter of size preference. Also if you prefer nicer pens the Supernote wins hands down, using my heart of metal 2 pen rn. I'll be putting out a short this week of the nomad and my first larger video on it will be a drawing livestream, I'm working with Supernote to first improve the atelier app a bit. I will do a full review of the Nomad eventually, but I only feel comfortable reviewing a device after some months minimum so I get to know it better. If you have any direct questions on the nomad feel free to ask here or on any future videos I put out on it 👍
Re the undo/ersaer functions. I don't think the lasso could delete at the time you made this video. Now that it does, I use that as my main undo/erase.
Only 4 minutes in and already I'm distracted by the Kobo Elipsa 2E. As a student, I would love to have the ability to write and notate directly onto the pages, versus highlight and then the sticky-notes. I'll have to take a look at that. I will stick around to finish your videos though! Thank you!
Please note that for PDFs you can annotate on them. Another viewer also made a good point that seeing all of your notes in one place can be nice for one book, which the sticky-notes offer as a comprehensive view, I think that's a solid point. I'd personally like to have the option of both but we'll see if they add that!
thx for the review! i fell in love with the 'e-ink' technology after watching Unbox Therapy's video on the Remarkable 2. with the spring semester of college approaching, i really want to use this as my primary notetaking device because it makes it so much easier to 1) save/organize notes and 2) eliminates the possiblity of losing notes or misplacing them. unfortunately the amazon discount disappeared today and the base model, 16GB, is back to $339. I guess I'll wait until the new year where they'll hopefully resume the deals again. Looks so so cool! not a bookworm but i'd love to try reading if i get this piece of tech.
That's annoying...I checked this morning and it was still on sale so they must have ended it this afternoon. Yea, having all your notes I one place is great and it's like smart paper. Being able to shift things around with the lasso or convert to written text makes it much better than normal notebooks. A joy to use. Keep tracking it though I'm sure it will go on sale again soon. I'll be posting another vid on the scribe/reMarkable later this week!
Great product. Only complaint is the usb port placement. It’s a weak point that’s prone to making the device bend. Hope next iteration moves it to corner. Higher white levels and on device ai text to speech would be sick (although they’d. ever do because they own Audible).
I want to compliment you on the great video. I want to move a page from one folder to another folder. When I try to use the "move" feature it only allows me to move the page within the same folder or to email it. All the time I have spent trying to figure this out, I could have copied the notes over to the other folder by hand, but I am stubborn and can't believe there isn't a "move option" or a "cut and paste" option?
Thanks Robert! Yes you are right it should be easier. Perhaps this thread can point you in the right direction 👉 www.reddit.com/r/kindlescribe/comments/13uyut9/move_content_between_notebooks/
When technology advances to the point where we have to chisel words on stone for future inhabitants then we will understand why it was done in ancient times as well.
Thank you. This was excellent. I own (and love) the Scribe, but would one day consider adding one (or more, lol) of the other devices you mentioned. I am hoping Amazon will come out with a color version of the Scribe, especially helpful with books that contain illustrations. I would also love to see the ability to highlight and copy part of a text in a book and paste it onto a note in the Notebook section. I don't think that is doable yet. Is it easy enough to load Kindle books onto the other devices you mentioned here? I have heard mixed comments on this. Again, thank you for this excellent and thorough review. Merry Christmas!
Hey Lou, glad you are liking your scribe! Which version did you get? I too would like to see a color scribe someday, my guess is that it won't be for a while as amazon continues to refine their software. I would gather they would make one when Kaleido 4 comes out, color e-ink tech is currently on Kaleido 3 which is surprisingly good but not great. The highlighting you mentioned would be awesome too. For the kindle app, Supernote and Boox have direct integration. I am absolutely LOVING the Supernote A6 X2 Nomad, incredible little device. I'll be pushing out some content on that soon and also the scribe interview I mentioned in this video. Thanks for watching!
@@VladimirKostek Thank you for such a great reply... much appreciated! I have the Scribe 64gb with the Premium pen, and I am considering the other nibs you showed on this video (and possibly even other pens that will work with the Scribe). Looking forward to your future content! I am retired, but I only wish these devices were available during my college and grad school years.. oh wow, I would have made such great use of them! But I didn't even have cell phones or computers at that time. LOL! have a great day! BTW, I just subscribed to your channel.
@loumarcellino5738 appreciate the sub! Omg I wish I had this in college I would have been SO much more organized. In the interview with Olivia we actually talk about this haha. Merry xmas 🎄
Hey Daniel, It does not. For the standard tips you will start to feel when the nib is worn out from the look of it and the feel as well. Hard to describe but you will know when its time for a replacement. The time it will take really depends on how much you use it. I've been using the metal tips I mentioned for the past 2 months and have no damage so far either with those. Hope that helps!
Quick question please 🙏 Which is better for reading strictly, scribe or remarkable? I enjoy the warm light of the paperwhite i own, which i love as its faster than the basic kindle that i updraded from.
Hey Derbauer, 100% the scribe.... the reMarkable is NOT for reading. While you can it has no frontlight and no access to a book store as well. If you have a paperwhite kindle you will enjoy the scribe as you are already in that ecosystem, switching over will be easy. Hope that helps.
@Derbauer smart, I feel silly paying full price for mine but that's the price of early adoption 😅 definitely get it on a good sale. Do you plan on writing with it or more reading?
How does it compare to the Onyx Note Air 2 or the 3C (color version)? I searched your channel but only found reviews for the Remarkable 2. I've subscribed! Looking forward to your review of the Supernote
The Note Air 3C is next on my list of tablets I'd like to own, specifically for productivity apps on android like notion, excel and using it as a second monitor for my laptop. I mentioned it here because I think they are the best option if you want a tablet replacement with notetaking/e-reader abilities. If you just want something for notes or reading then the scribe/reMarkable/kindle are great options. If you want more info on the 3C I would point you to my friends @KitBetts-Masters or @BrandonKBoswell here on YT, they have made a lot of content on that already. I'm super excited to put out content on the Supernote nomad, it's an amazing little device. Tomorrow i'll put out another Scribe video. I appreciate the sub!
I put out some supernote content and yes the Kindle scribe content I mentioned is out too, checkout my productivity tools playlist... it's all in there 🤙
Planning to write notes while watching a movie at a movie theater. Do you think the backlight will be distracting, and how easy is it to blind switch to a new page?
Adding new pages is easy, could you elaborate on what you mean by blind switching? I suppose you could use it on low brightness, just make sure you aren't annoying anyone around you lol
I’m really stuck between this and the remarkable. I’m getting a lot of eye strain so maybe going to go for the remarkable, but can you adjust the light on the scribe so it’s off, or is it like the normal kindle light? Great review thanks
Hi Julie, at 6:32 you can see the light adjustment feature. You can turn it off completely. The reMarkable 2 has no frontlight btw, I did a full review of that on my channel too. Also btw tmrw I'm releasing another video where my friend and I talk about the Scribe and the reMarkable if you are interested in seeing more about the two devices!
Question for someone who is rather new to E-Notebooks - does the pen (writing or erasing) tend to leave markings/scratches on the screen? The reason I ask is because I have an iPad with a Paperlike screen protector on it and due to the protector being soft, it leaves a very light scratch where I used my Apple Pencil.
Thanks for watching man and glad it was helpful! The standard nibs will not scratch the screen at all, the metallic nibs I mentioned can over time possiblely give microscratches if you write with a lot of pressure so I wouldn't reccomend those if you are worried about that, hope that helps 👍
@vladimirkostek does any of these have the capability to record while taking notes and trace it back to the place where you actually wrote it ? Something like Notability app ? Or does any of them support an app does it ?
It really depends which ecosystem you are involved in. The Amazon store is vast, but the Kobo store is great too, if you have DRM free e-books too you can only load those on the Kobo. I would point you to a video my friend @KitBetts-Masters made on the two here ua-cam.com/video/zdngToPPlVM/v-deo.html
I still have the 10th gen Paperwhite. I wish these devices were faster, smoother, also being able to easily create whatever collections you want and add books in bulk, maybe even making use of Calibre. As it stands, they're pretty mediocre.
Hi, the reMarkable isn't the best for books because of DRM issues. The Scribe note feature is still pretty good for books as it gives you an all encompassing view. Also I'd check out the Kobo Ellipsa 2e for books too. I don't have one but hear you can annotate on the books
I still think best bang for buck the premium pen with a normal nib is great. It has the erase and the button feature. If you wanted to buy a second stylus to make it like a pen just buy the standard scribe one with no eraser and add a metal nib. Just be weary that it is possible to scratch with a metal nib if you write very hard, in which case you might want a screen protector. Pens are a big rabbit hole haha, you could get the Dr grip emr and add a metallic nib to that too if you prefer ergonomics but then it wouldn't fit in the transport folio.
@@VladimirKostekhaha yeah. I got the deal on the qvc website tonight. It only has the basic pen. If you give my channel a quick view you will see my rabbit hole. Haha Obviously I sell a lot. And I don’t really ever show my pen or fountain pen collection 😂
Can pdfs be read like pdfs directly (as you would on an iPad), or does it appear kind of tailored so it feels much like a kindle ebook? If it is the latter, any chance the pdfs can be read as is?
For sure, there is one linked in the video description to the amazon page. I think the best one rn is the Note Air 3C by Boox, the only downside is the battery life isn't the best because of the proprietary refresh technology they use which makes it a smoother experience. Hope that helps, it uses Kaleido 3 E ink btw.
With PDF's you can write anywhere on it. All the tools work as usual and allow you to write anywhere. I got my kindle scribe last week so hopefully my answer helps you out.
Hey Vladimir. One thing I would like to ask you check for us - if you try writing with the pen on Scribe at the very edge of the right side of the screen - with very low pressure, do you feel like the screen there is less sensitive to the pen than on other parts of the screen? And how does that compare with your Remarkable? Unfortunately my Scribe has that issue and I heard some other users had the same experience.
Hey Victor, unf this is a design flaw of a lot of these devices. Specifically, the electro-magnetic resonance in the pens has interference with the same magnets that are used to attach them 🤣 I'd say it's about the same as the reMarkable for what it's worth. The supernote has resolved this by moving the 🧲 to the top where the bezel is larger for the folio and the pen attaches via a loop on the folio instead of a magnet on the side. Hope that is informative for you
Great overview and comparison with other devices. Amazon has a sale again, so I ordered yesterday. I felt a little guilty when i looked over at my Kindle Oasis, as if i was cheating 😂 However, they're like 2 different devices, and the size difference will really benefit my eyes on the larger device.
Hope you like it Kevin! Make sure to checkout the landscape option I mentioned for books so you can read 2 pages next to each other, very cool feature. The Kindle on sale is probably the best bang for the buck
@VladimirKostek Thank you for the reply, and I too hope I like it. I have an iPad and Tab S9, but I become sidetracked with either device, so hope this helps me focus. P.S. I did go with basic pen, because I have so many pens. Thank you so much for the tip about S-Pen!
Hi, I am currently editing the Scribe interview with Olivia. Part 1 will be out tomorrow :) The other videos I referenced with Kit and Brandon should be out within the next month or so, I have a few videos I will put out before that.
I am planning on buying the kindle scribe for taking down my maths notes (ug) and for reading in general, is it easy to read pdfs (sent through site ir mail) in it? (My older kindle models wasnt good for reading pdfs (due to zoom and small siza) (does kindle scribe face the same problem?)
HUGE ISSUE: Can't lock the screen when holding the device. It's difficult to hold without accidentally turning the page. A software update would fix this....
How about the screen? Does it end up being scratched as any wacom tablet? Cause the screen is plastic and friction over time must create some scratches right? Specially knowing is a plastic-ish screen
@VladimirKostek not really. I have a kindle but never used a kobo b4 but after watching ur video I started to realize the kobo is more versatile. I think the boox go tablet might be a good all in one e-ink tablet overall. I have some research to do lol
@@uchinan_chiburu I gotcha, perhaps I can help you choose. What are your main goals with it? The Supernote nomad is a great device too, I put out a video of that a few weeks back.
@@VladimirKostek actually I didn't even know kindle had a larger version until a few days ago lol. I have the smaller version already. My main goal would be to read books on a larger screen and occasionally jot down notes. I don't journal at all or use an e-ink tablet for work so I wouldn't need a kobo or remarkable. I thought the boox was interesting bcuz I could download the kindle app and still read my books. It also has speakers and voice recording features.
@chiburu_uchinanchu yea boox is great for productivity, you just have to determine if you'll use all those features. Apps can be distracting so think of what your goal is with it.
@@VladimirKostek no. She just charged again but I heard the battery charged last for 2 month so you don’t need to be charging it every day like iPads. I was expecting that last at least a month. I noticed that she sets the brightness of the screen high and also draws in the Kindle.
@ruthfv123 Gotcha Ruth, very high brightness will crush through the battery faster. I would recommend ticking the auto brightness setting in the drop-down menu. That way when she is using it during the daytime it won't use much 🔋. Hope that helps! 5 days is very short for the Scribe, so she must be using it a lot. Which is a good thing in my opinion 😊
While I do agree it would be a great feature to have, the notes do have one benefit and that is for revising. When you like at the notes for a good book they'll show up all in a list style making it easier to see them in an overview. Something that is impossible to do with in-page writing. Ideally, I'd like both options. For the relatively low price of the Scribe I don't think it's a deal breaker by any means.
I know mate was just joking! I love my scribe and mainly bought it for reading on a bigger screen,I have a paperwhite for travel.thanks for the video I’ve subscribed to your channel.
Your title talks about scribe after using it for a year, but this is really not just about the scribe, it’s about e ink tablets and competitors, really disappointed, will not listen to the channel again if you’re unable to keep integrity between the title and the content
That's a fair point, having used the Scribe for over a year and being a long term user of the reMarkable line I thought it would be relevant to include the competition and also other new products. A lot of people looking at the scribe are first time lookers at these e-ink tablets as they turn more mainstream. About 90% of the video is regarding the scribe, but thanks for weighing in. If you choose to stop by again, in the first 30 seconds I will usually address what you can expect me to discuss in the entirety of the video.
100 MB book? WOW... 100 MB PDF? OK, that's pretty normal. You can side-load books or PDFs to the Kindle via USB, but for PDFs you will lose the "write-on" feature. The only way to write on PDFs is by using any of the "Send-to-Kindle" methods Amazon offers to covert the PDF into a "write-on" format. But if you do this then you will lose the dictionary search, vectorial highlighting... and other formatting features the USB method offers. I don't really understand Amazon but it's clearly they want to monitor your content by doing the "Amazon dance".
11/28/24 update: The base Scribe is on a black friday sale right now ( almost 110$ off) amzn.to/45XPobD

thx for the review! i fell in love with the 'e-ink' technology after watching Unbox Therapy's video on the Remarkable 2. with the spring semester of college approaching, i really want to use this as my primary notetaking device because it makes it so much easier to 1) save/organize notes and 2) eliminates the possiblity of losing notes or misplacing them. unfortunately the amazon discount disappeared today and the base model, 16GB, is back to $339.
I'm not the biggest fan of the USB-C port placement either. Do you ever find you accidentally press the power button too or is that just me? 😅
@@VladimirKostek Sometimes! Worth it for the size though. Textbooks naturally zoom in past margins, so it’s basically a 1:1 copy.
@user-kk3jr8gi2x yea for school work it's great 👍
I bought mine recently for note taking. Love it
Awesome. Which version did you go for?

Regarding the screen, does the pen end up scratching the surface thinking of long use? How do you know when it's time to change the pen tip? Tks!
@@VladimirKostek thank you!
Quick question please 🙏
Which is better for reading strictly, scribe or remarkable?
I enjoy the warm light of the paperwhite i own, which i love as its faster than the basic kindle that i updraded from.
Hey Derbauer, 100% the scribe.... the reMarkable is NOT for reading. While you can it has no frontlight and no access to a book store as well. If you have a paperwhite kindle you will enjoy the scribe as you are already in that ecosystem, switching over will be easy. Hope that helps.
@@VladimirKostek sure does, just waiting for the scribe to get a deal that's before Prime day 2024 😅😅
@Derbauer smart, I feel silly paying full price for mine but that's the price of early adoption 😅 definitely get it on a good sale.
@@VladimirKostekdid you post the video yet?
I put out some supernote content and yes the Kindle scribe content I mentioned is out too, checkout my productivity tools playlist... it's all in there 🤙
Planning to write notes while watching a movie at a movie theater. Do you think the backlight will be distracting, and how easy is it to blind switch to a new page?
Adding new pages is easy, could you elaborate on what you mean by blind switching? I suppose you could use it on low brightness, just make sure you aren't annoying anyone around you lol
@@VladimirKostek blind swipe, press a button in the dark (without looking) to switch to a new page
Also really well done video! It helped solidify my decision on ordering a Scribe.
Thanks for watching man and glad it was helpful! The standard nibs will not scratch the screen at all, the metallic nibs I mentioned can over time possiblely give microscratches if you write with a lot of pressure so I wouldn't reccomend those if you are worried about that, hope that helps 👍
And eraser doesn't either from what I've noticed
@@VladimirKostek Awesome, thank you so much!
@@TBPlaysIt anytime!
@vladimirkostek does any of these have the capability to record while taking notes and trace it back to the place where you actually wrote it ? Something like Notability app ? Or does any of them support an app does it ?
I would recommend the note air 3c as it has android so you can download apps like that amzn.to/3wpfsyv
If you don't need color then you can save 100$ on the normal version amzn.to/3P0aMFJ
Great review!
Thanks :) Will you be getting one Kiera?
I’m debating between this and the Kobo Elipsa 2E, what would you recommend?
It really depends which ecosystem you are involved in. The Amazon store is vast, but the Kobo store is great too, if you have DRM free e-books too you can only load those on the Kobo. I would point you to a video my friend @KitBetts-Masters made on the two here ua-cam.com/video/zdngToPPlVM/v-deo.html
I still have the 10th gen Paperwhite. I wish these devices were faster, smoother, also being able to easily create whatever collections you want and add books in bulk, maybe even making use of Calibre.
As it stands, they're pretty mediocre.
I've never used calibre, gonna look into it!
do those metal ballpoint nibs require replacing like regular nibs?
Nope! They do feel quite diff more like a pen
So, if I need something to read and anotate on the books reMarkable is still the best option?
Hi, the reMarkable isn't the best for books because of DRM issues. The Scribe note feature is still pretty good for books as it gives you an all encompassing view. Also I'd check out the Kobo Ellipsa 2e for books too. I don't have one but hear you can annotate on the books
Overall what pen do you suggest for the scribe? It would be cool to be able to switch back and forth between the pencil and pen feel. Thanks
PDFs can be read directly, you can annotate right on them. Very Intuitive and simple! Hope that helps
Great review. Can you suggest a few e-readers/writers with colour e ink display and the kindle app?
For sure, there is one linked in the video description to the amazon page. I think the best one rn is the Note Air 3C by Boox, the only downside is the battery life isn't the best because of the proprietary refresh technology they use which makes it a smoother experience. Hope that helps, it uses Kaleido 3 E ink btw.
The non color version has much better battery life fyi
@@VladimirKostek thanks a lot Vladmir. Will explore
@@SajidhMarikkar anytime!
If you side-load a video, is the annotation option still available? I mean, can you write in the margins of side-loaded PDFs?
With PDF's you can write anywhere on it. All the tools work as usual and allow you to write anywhere. I got my kindle scribe last week so hopefully my answer helps you out.
You can't play videos on the scribe, they did just add active canvas which allows you to write on the page FYI
Hope that is informative for you
@@VladimirKostek yes that was very helpful, thank you!

Certainly, your S9 pen should work great on it!
Where are the links to those videos you have talked about?
Hi, I am currently editing the Scribe interview with Olivia. Part 1 will be out tomorrow :)
The other videos I referenced with Kit and Brandon should be out within the next month or so, I have a few videos I will put out before that.
PDFs Pinch and zoom works quite well. You can edit directly on the pdf too.

HUGE ISSUE: Can't lock the screen when holding the device. It's difficult to hold without accidentally turning the page. A software update would fix this....
Do you mean you accidentally lock it by pressing the side button? That happens to me sometimes
@@VladimirKostek No I mean the accidental turning the page because there's no way to lock the touch screen.
@user-il9qo4qc4n but then every time you would turn a page you would have to turn off that unlock feature right?
@@VladimirKostek No, have buttons on the screen to turn the page.

Why do you not review the written to text bit??
I simply forgot to, I will show that when I make a video testing the new active Canvas feature and the new AI details
What do you prefer for pdf reading? Notetaking is not important.
The Scribe is slightly quicker as it's more modern, also it has 73 more ppi than the rM2 so I would say it's slightly better. Hope that helps!
Do you think that the following reader is the best product ever out there ????
It is great but it's quite big. If you are interested in something smaller I'm putting out a video on my pocketbook inkpad color 3 later this week 🎨 🖼
Is there any how to connect a keyboard via Bluetooth on kindle scribe?
Hey Victoria, unfortunately there isn't. I feel they should make this a feature as it does have bluetooth capability
Can you read pdf files like books with different content in it without issues?
Yes pdf reading is great with annotation as a possibility too
How about the screen? Does it end up being scratched as any wacom tablet? Cause the screen is plastic and friction over time must create some scratches right? Specially knowing is a plastic-ish screen
I have not noticed any in the year + that I've owned it. It seems quite durable!

Do u have issues reading kindle books on ur kobo?
I think it depends on what model you get, is there a specific one you are looking at? Mine is old and I don't think it does
@VladimirKostek not really.
I got the kindle scrible for my daughter and th she used for 5 days and the battery died.
Like it died for good?
Not being able to do live annotations on a book is silly and a total dealbreaker.
@11:52 ASMR
Haha ur right, unintentional I think I was just leaning over to see what she was doing and was right next to the camera 😂

If you choose to stop by again, in the first 30 seconds I will usually address what you can expect me to discuss in the entirety of the video.
just tell me , that can i copy a 100mb size book via cable to this Kindle and able to read it ?
Yes you should be able to
100 MB book? WOW...
