But you cut the part about marriage and children that provided a loop hole and essentially forced the slave to say ”i love my master...” If the slave married while he was a slave, after six years if the slave wanted to leave, he had to leave his wife and kids because THEY remained the slave holders’ property. Alot of slave owners in the bible weren’t cruel to their slaves and even if the bible talks about slavery it doesn’t mean it supports it like the slaves in egypt cried to God to save them from slavery and he saved them
It’s the same with the Koran - one keeps hearing how he who takes a life kills all mankind, but he who saves a life saves all mankind, but the previous verse makes it clear that it’s only Muslims who must not be killed and the subsequent verse says non-Muslims can be killed for ‘mischief making’.
The subsequent verses says those who attack you.. Quran 2:190 says we are only to fight those who strive to fight us. But do not transgress. But do read from 190 to 195 Quran 4:89-91 also speaks about being peaceful with those who make treaty with you And the Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) has said something about "Who ever kills a person who is innocent won't smell the scent of paradise".. “God knew that the hearts of men were evil...” These, by the way, we’re the very same hearts he created. He created their natures, and also the means by which those natures turned the hearts evil. As a matter of fact, god himself testified to creating evil: Isaiah 45:7 King James Version (KJV) 7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things. Also, Christians say man has gone against the will of god, but turn around and say that everything is in god’s plan. How can Christians, in light of the Bible and Christian philosophy, NOT hold god responsible for slavery?
God certainly creates evil, but it is not how you might think. God is the ultimate definition of "good", and without his existence, good and evil is impossible to philosophically or naturally justify. So everywhere that God is not, evil is. Simply by God existing, evil exists, and thus He creates evil but has no part in it. While God desires, all humans not to sin, to commune with, and to love him, he gave us free will to do the opposite. God gave us the choice to exist where He will not. If He is a perfectly good and just God, the only explanation for Him allowing evil (the rejection/absence of God), is because he loves us. When Christians say man "has gone against the will of God", they are referring to God's desire for that individual, not his will for the entire world in terms of progressing creation. If God exists as the Bible says he does (outside of this space-time universe), then this world and the entirety of the future was created in an instant and for all eternity. When Christians refer to everything being in God's plan, they (of course I don't speak for everybody because not everyone is on the same plane of understanding) mean that when God declares something will happen, no amount of fighting or resistance will stop it from happening. Regardless of our free will, what God has said will come to pass, will indeed come to pass through our free will, because from God's perspective outside of time, the future has already come to pass. He uses our freewill to accomplish his will for the world (not to be confused with his desires, also referred to as "will", for individual humans). This is also how he can have omniscience, omnipotence, perfect holiness (goodness), and perfect justice all simultaneously.
Not to mention the prenatal enslavement of the child conceived between slaves, which falls nothing short of involuntary captivity. Much “volition” considered.

Thinking Brain its a regional specific difference. UK/Canada tend to say university for what the US refer to as college. But they’re all still schools!
@@meller7303 As a Canadian, I have heard some Americans say they go to college, and others say they go to University. Colleges tend to be smaller and focus more more on trades and skills. But then I don't understand why they have allowed that orange haired orangutan to play and have temper tantrums for so long in the Oval Office either.
Walter White I’ve heard most Americans refer to schools where they learn trades as simply “trade schools”. A friend of mine from North Carolina mentioned this to me. Google “College Hockey” and you’ll notice the teams include Harvard ‘university’ and Colorado ‘College’. But both schools offer the same 4 year bachelors, not the 2 year program found at trade schools. College and university are used interchangeably in the states for the most part. Either way, it’s all just semantics. Colloquial use it is different for many words, and it doesn’t make that word better or worse, it’s simply used differently.
You use whom when it is any sort of object of the sentence, who when it’s the subject. (In the phrase “Who notices”, who is the subject.) if you were to say “by whom it is noticed”, that would be correct
Maybe they dont understand that when you will beat them, you will make sure they recover after one or two days. Just tell them they will survive so no problem.
He's defending it by showing it's not slavery as we know it. It's basically indentured servitude, or as we would practice today, employment. The only issues he has are semantics. "they're called slaves." In the biblical Hebrew, that word could mean slave as we know it, but it merely only refers to one who serves. So it can refer to an employee employer relationship or a prisoner captor relationship. You need context to figure out which it is taking about. "they're considered property." Property in that context doesn't refer to having full rights to the person to do as you please. There are many passages which say "do not treat your slaves harshly." They had laws against doing them harm. What they mean by calling them property is that they had full rights to the fruit of their labor. The same is considered with land property. They called it property, yet they also acknowledged all land rightfully belongs to God. So the land was their property only in the sense that they had rights to the fruit of the land they worked. So these objections are merely semantics and don't get to the underlining meaning of the statements.
chipan9191 You missed the beatings. In biblical times that meant the same as hugging. Don’t hug your employee properties so much that they die. Grrrr. Semantics!
@@twowardrobeswardrobes1536 the Bible was an ancient document written to a particular audience that is culturally different from us. 10:39 I see a mistake here. It says "leviticus 24:44-6" but there is not 44th verse in the 24th chapter of leviticus. The correct verse would be leviticus 25:44-46.
They only say that the Bible doesn’t support slavery because the modern society doesn’t accept or support it 😂😂 They change and twist the interpretations of the Bible as they see fit... So oblivious and ignorant. I’m still watching by the way 😋😋😂😂
Anal Jihad They don’t need to change it because all they need to do is to confuse people by misinterpreting it and there is no shortage of people who are willing to be wilfully misguided with no urge to question anything they were presented. They would condemn a man in a dress but they’re happy to be wilfully twisting the interpretation of the Bible on supporting slavery, simply because they don’t like it, when in reality a dress has no gender! It’s a piece of fabric! And it’s the fact! 😋😋😂😂
All you have to do is believe that Jesus fulfilled the Law. Boom. All of the Old Testament Laws disappear as they are transferred into Jesus. No more hating anyone, slaves, or all the Old Testament Greatest Hits of Bible Bashing. If the translation is not in error in the meanings of what Jesus did? Then any Christian who holds to the Old Testament as the Will and Law of God? Is doing it wrong. Thus the Old Testament becomes a reference document of the Old Ways and how things rolled - followed by the Reformer - and then the future that was meant to be had after the Reformation.
They do this quite often. They try using context and say it's unacceptable now, but then why do they condemn homosexuality or sex before marriage? Times have changed, haven't they? They only use modern society to benefit them and their morals, not when it affects other people. I saw a video by a channel call Girl Defined and they outright stated that braids may have been prohibited in the bible, but it's fine because times have changed. Again, it's only to benefit them.
Exodus 21:16, “ He who kidnaps a man and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, shall surely be put to death.” Also Deuteronomy 23:15-16 which says “You shall not give back to his master the slave who has escaped from his master to you. He may dwell with you in your midst, in the place which he chooses within one of your gates, where it seems best to him; you shall not oppress him.” The verse clearly oppose slavery, the slavery that was allowed would be people selling themselves to have food and shelter for them and there families in exchange for labor, but if the conditions were too bad at all then they could just run away and you were commanded to give them a place wherever that they please with you. And no man could kidnap and sell a person lawfully without the death penalty- like modern day slavery.
@@macumus >The verse clearly oppose slavery It absolutely doesn't in any way whatsoever. It was illegal to kidnap people in the American south during the height of African slavery as well. In fact it was illegal just to kidnpa people in ANY society that practiced slavery. kid Cosmic Skeptic , please apply your own advice and read the chapters in full. In the OT, god gave laws not to trade slaves commercially and even gave grave penalties like death, only slaves under some circumstances like hiring war captives so that there is no threat, elevating poverty , paying off debts, providing livelihood, etc, were to be taken under the mosaic law with conditions. See what Luke 4:18 and 1 Timothy 1:9-10 says. Both NT and OT says it is not OK. first, the bible repeatedly says hired workers and property is simply human resources then, more beneficial for the workers in terms of livelihood , paying off debts, go free later or remain on a permanent basis if they wish or dont have land to go. Hebrew or foreigners. This is what we see and every thing is volitional. God doesn't command but instead gives laws if they take slaves, hence we see 'you may '. Even the foreigners could own Hebrew slaves if they are rich and the foreign slaves could remain permanently if they have no land to go to. God gives specific commands against oppression of foreigners in the OT. The compassionate laws towards slaves were prefaced with a reminder that the Israelites too were once slaves in Egypt. In Exodus 21, the laws are proscriptive, to discourage immoral behaviour and penalties for violation, penalties and compensations are given in case of different personal injuries like in case of beating slaves, ox goring man, etc , To think that there is provision to beat slaves or continue to beat them is nonsense.
I'd like to add a passage that actually was mentioned here, but the specific part I'm interested in, was passed by - perhaps because it wasn't 100% on topic in that exact instance. How ever, I'd argue that whenever we're talking about slavery in the bible and the "benevolence" and "wisdom" christans ascribe to their god, as well as the distinction that's made in the bible between the treatment of jewish slaves and slaves of other nations and groups of people, this specific passage should be highlighted and put on the table for discussion. Now, my bible isn't one of the english translations (since I'm not english), but the verses and chapters are the same. I'll provide my own a translation from my language to english, but I'd sugest any one who finds this as interesting as me should go and read it for themselves in whatever translation of the bible they may prefer. Exodus 21:2-6 2. If you buy a hebrew slave, he shall serve for 6 years, bhut on the seventh year he shall be set free without paying. 3. If he came alone, then he shall be freed alone. If he was married, then his wife shall be freed with him. 4. If his master _gave_ _to_ _him_ _a_ _wife_ , and she's born to him sons or daughters, then the wife and her children shall belong to her master, and the man alone shall be freed. 5. But of the slave says: "I have great love for my master, my wife, and my children, and therefor do not wish to be freed", 6. then his master shall take him infront of God and put him by the door or the doorpost, and his master shall spike awl through his ear. He will then be his slave forever. What's noteworthy here is a couple of things that combined doesn't paint the prettiest of pictures, in my opinion. It's verses 4-6. First, note that it doesn't say that the slave has taken for himself a wife, but that the owner has "given to him a wife". Next, note that the wife and children isn't to be let free, they will continue to be the property of the slave owner. - Now contemplate the circumstances under which the man is offered to "choose" to stay a slave or to be set free. He can choose to leave his family in bondage and be on his unmarry way, or he can stay with his family. Now add to this the power of the owner: it is _he_ who's paired this man up with a woman. Regardless of the wishes of either the male or the female slave. Isn't that just a perfect coinsidence for a slave owner who has no real interest in being a slave short after six years? Then we have verse 6 that's just .... well, I don't really know what to say about it because it's not very specific, though at the same time earily so: This spikeing, or piercing, or skewering of the slaves ear. Read in my languange, it's impossible to know for certain, but the wording that's used indicates a practice that would at the least make the man deaf. Though it could, if one were to read it with a good portion of benefit of the doubt, as mearly a practice that would give the man a badly disfigured ear. No where does it specify the size or kind of awl that's to be used. Niether does it specify where or how the ear is to be spiked - are we talking about a minor prick in the lower part of the outer ear - suitable for an chick earring. Or, are we talking about straight in to the ear canal? Or something inbetween? As with the majority of this collection of texts that's called the bible, I find that the passages that actually give the case for gods benevolence and morality is far between and drowned in the abundance of the contrary. Yes, people tend to cherry-pick, but I'd argue that the amount of self-deceit it takes to cherry-pick in a poisoned orchard when there's a fully healthy one just one field over, is indeed not only unwise but indicative of something inherently harmful and unhealthy. To finish off: If anyone's taken the time and effort to read this far: Thank you and I hope you found it worth while! Also, I'd highly recomend you to read Exodus 21:7-11 (i.e. the verses following directly upon those mentioned above). In which we get to enjoy the benevolence of God towards hebrew women. Yeah ... benevolence ... or...? Thanks again to anyone's taken the time, and Cheers! =)
I remember one advent season many years ago, I attended one early morning mass, and the Leviticus passage was one of the readings. It was definitely confusing. Seems like 90% of the other attendees in the church weren't paying attention, though.
The South actually took a lot of it's laws directly from the bible. That biblical slavery was somehow better than African slavery is wrong in every way. African slavery was inspired by biblical slavery.
14:15 It is not that "if they get up in a couple of days" it is actually "if it takes a couple of days for them to die, then it was not a direct result of the beating"
The ten commandments...gotta get down to commandment #6 for "thou shall not kill". And of course, omnipotent "God" never did get around to saying, "thou shall not enslave people." I have an idea, let's not enslave people and tell "God" to go to hell.

It's kind of ironic that the biggest danger to a Muslim is another Muslim
The subsequent verses says those who attack you..
Quran 2:190 says we are only to fight those who strive to fight us. But do not transgress.
But do read from 190 to 195
Quran 4:89-91 also speaks about being peaceful with those who make treaty with you
And the Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) has said something about "Who ever kills a person who is innocent won't smell the scent of paradise".. So yes our Quran doesn't speak about killing of innocent... Just don't CherryPick and you'll see.. Anyways our Quran as well doesn't speak about slavery the way the bible does. Ours is more of Maid-servant relationship.. And we feed them what we feed ourselves, clothe them what we clothe ourselves and give them their property once we freed them...
I bet I'm going to get like a million haters underneath this comment because they won't agree that Islam prohibits the killing of innocent and even apostate ☺

So The Koran May not say to kill an apostate. What does the Hadith say?
Isn’t this like what the guy in the video does? He points to a certain set of verses that applies to HEBREW slaves while completely ignoring the many verses that apply to non-Hebrew slaves, which were treated very differently.
What does the Hadith say about how to deal with an apostate of Islam? And does the things the Hadith say matter?

Also the Bible and interpretations of the Bible condone slavery. Because you lack reading or history for 2300 years doesn't mean it doesn't. That is why essenes the first group to ban all slaves and material possessions actually believed it based on the Bible. That is 2300 year old.

These, by the way, we’re the very same hearts he created. He created their natures, and also the means by which those natures turned the hearts evil. As a matter of fact, god himself testified to creating evil:
Isaiah 45:7 King James Version (KJV)
7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.
Also, Christians say man has gone against the will of god, but turn around and say that everything is in god’s plan. How can Christians, in light of the Bible and Christian philosophy, NOT hold god responsible for slavery?
The bible doesn't support slavery
aubrey Then why are there instructions on how to enslave people in the Bible? And where does it say slavery is wrong in the Bible?
Scroll back to the start in Genesis God said everything he created was "good" it became "evil" after.

Somebody, pleasssse, tell me that this black man condoning biblical slavery is joking! 😢
Nope mental slavery is real
"He who stealeth a man, and selleth him, (*) shall be put to death".
(*) may be:
1. and is caught in the act
2. and he (the man) is found in his (the kidnapper's) possession
I lean more towards #1, as it seems a more "correct" sentence in structure, and is more in line with the kind of language that the bible is written in. Regardless, apart from the "וְנִמְצָא בְיָדוֹ", the rest is straightforward.
I am Greek. The first official translation of the Old Testament was in Greek. Then the Greek text was translated to all the other languages (fun fact: the Greek Orthodox Church claims that the Hebrew Bible is not godsend, go figure).
So, the verse in the official Greek translation is 21:17, in the chapter "Laws about violence". And it says:
The person that steals one of the sons of Israel and dominates over him and sell him, if found guilty, will be put to death.
The not-so-official translation to a bit more modern Greek, says the same. [Εκείνός που θα αρπάξη κρυφίως ένα Ισραηλίτην και τον βασανίση και τον πωλήση κατόπιν ως δούλον θα τιμωρήται με θάνατον, εάν αποδειχθή η ενοχή του.]
The word steal (κλέψη) in Greek means "grab". You can steal money, but you can also steal people. It may very well mean kidnap. "If you grab one of your own and sell him as a slave, you are dead". Only men from other nations you are allowed to steal (grab, kidnap) and make slaves.
So "God allowed slavery, but he REGULATED it - so that it was a GOOD type of slavery"? ... yeah, that doesn't sound very good.

Pretty much everyone agreed that it was bad to be enslaved and awesome to enslave others. That sentiment is very much shared by Yahwe.
Jesus Christ... the level of mental gymnastics is astonishing.
*BIBLICAL EXEGESIS BAD*

I would ask WHY the law was THERE in the first place - flawed as it seemed. Was it a Beta version?
I missed these so much! Thank you for coming back :)

The verse clearly oppose slavery, the slavery that was allowed would be people selling themselves to have food and shelter for them and there families in exchange for labor, but if the conditions were too bad at all then they could just run away and you were commanded to give them a place wherever that they please with you. And no man could kidnap and sell a person lawfully without the death penalty- like modern day slavery.

If you had actually read the bible rather than just parroting apologists, you'd know that the Pentateuch is totally unambigous in encouraging slavery. And Yahwe encourages and aids his people, Moses, Aaron etc in committing genocide and taking slaves.

Exodus 21:2-6

"Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live." "I came not to bring peace, but a sword." "Not one jot or tittle of my Father's word shall pass from the law until Heaven and Earth shall pass away."
And "neighbor" can mean anything you want. The person next door, or just the people you associate with--or just the members of your own religion. If you knew anything about the translations, you'd see that, but you don't.

If I made a rule saying you are not allowed to shoot your co-workers However, your Asian co-workers you may shoot, then you can't go back to the original Rule and say that means you can't shoot the Asians. It's specifically gives you instructions on how you may treat your servants as well as your slaves. Love Thy Neighbor did not apply to slaves. Read your Bible because it's immoral as fuck. And it's pathetic the cherry picking you do to try and justify it. Christians constantly say that atheists are cherry-picking, but If I pointed to the Holocaust and said look at the good shit that Hitler did, would you come back and say but look at all the nice stuff that you are ignoring? I'm completely fine with the fact that there are good things in the Bible but it does not matter. It does not matter if everything in the Bible is good and the Bible support slavery. That automatically makes it immoral. There is nothing in the Bible that can be considered good, that you cannot achieve through secular means. I'm embarrassed for people like you. How someone can support something so clearly evil, is pathetic
