There are 6 types of saxophones in widespread use today. In pitch order from high to low, they are the sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass.
I didn’t know there was that many-I only knew of alto and tenor.Guess those 2 years of playing sax 🎷 weren’t a total waste of time after all
You might want to check out some of the originals: Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, John Lee Hooker. Wolf was a huge man and one of the few blues men to do well. A lot of his songs were covered by the Stones.

He's playing an Alto and a Tenor Saxophone 🎷. They make different sounds/tones. I played them both in band.
I played Alto during matching season and Tenor in concert season.

SAXOPHONE Question - likely had a tenor sax, and an alto sax. Difference is pitch/key. Alto sax plays at a higher pitch. There are several different saxophones. A baritone sax for instance would be much lower. The solo was played at a higher pitch to hit some of those more high end powerful notes, where the rest of the song was played in a lower register on par with the guitar.

Alto and Baritone Sax have different ranges and tone

When you talked about the saxophone, the sax player had two saxes with him, one larger one and one smaller. The smaller one is the most common type you see and is known as an "alto" saxophone while the larger one is a "tenor" saxophone which is a lower pitched sax although there is a lot of overlap in the ranges of the two instruments. There is also a "soprano" saxophone which is smaller than both of them (looks similar to a clarinet) but you rarely see them. And there is a "baritone" saxophone which is bigger than the "tenor" sax.
