George is from Wilmington Delaware....Brandywine Hundred to be exact. He went to Brandywine H.S. with my stepfather, and stayed at my house SEVERAL times when I was growing up.
Very nice man, and AMAZING storyteller and musician. He taught me the BLUES RIFFS, when I told him I was interested in the guitar (I think I was 8 or 9), and DOES DRINK A LOT.
    Nice video

That man in the background and playing pool is Bo Diddley, a pioneer of rock and roll who heavily influenced many artists including George Thorogood! Great choice!

This was a cover of Bo Diddley's classic. Bo was a Rock and Roll pioneer, with a career that launched in the 1950s.

An extra bad a$$ reaction ☠! Bad To The Bone was released as the second single from George Thorogood & The Delaware Destroyers' 1982 album: Bad To The Bone. It was written by George Thorogood. It was produced by The Delaware Destroyers. The song reached #27 on the Mainstream Rock chart. The music video was directed by Bob Radler and features Blues legend Bo Diddley (who asked "who's that?) and professional pool playing legend Willie Mosconi. Yes, Major Payne used this song as have other films and tv shows. He's from Delaware. Rudy Giuliani performed the song on The Masked Singer (S7/E7). His performance led judge Ken Jeong to walk off set.
The song is based on the Bo Diddley 1955 Blues song: "I'm A Man". George Thorogood is influenced by the Blues, and Bo Diddley is one of his heroes. George Thorogood's version has a much heavier guitar sound, which replaces the harmonica in Bo Diddley's recording. Both songs are full of swagger, with the singers exuding lots of testosterone. The phrase "bad to the bone" means there isn't a bit of good in him. Other songs have been published with that title, but George Thorogood popularized it and created a modern Blues classic with this song.
With MTV coming on the air in 1981, George Thorogood picked a good time to release a memorable video. The clip shows Thorogood playing pool against Bo Diddley in a place where there is no chance of a dance sequence breaking out. Pool champion Willie Mosconi also appears in the clip, which introduced George Thorogood - and to some extent, Bo Diddley - to the younger MTV crowd. Among the British New Wave acts that dominated MTV's playlist at the time, George Thorogood certainly stood out, and he created an image of a bad man. While George Thorogood is a disciple of the Blues, he was raised in a Delaware suburb and by most accounts is actually a pretty nice guy, despite what he claims in this song.
The song has been covered by some artists including 📻: The Countdown Singers, Molly Hatchet, Ken Tamplin, Z-Rock Hawaii, The Starlite Singers and more. Hip-Hop artist Tek from the rap group: Smif N Wessun, did a rap version of the song.
The song has been featured in many television shows including 📺: Who's The Boss?, Married With Children, Miami Vice, Reasonable Doubts, Beavis And Butthead, The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, Monk, Third Rock From The Sun, Family Matters, Alvin And The Chipmunks, Renegade, Step By Step, My Name Is Earl and more.
The has been used in many films including 📽: Slayground (1983), Christine (1983), The Color Of Money (1986), Lethal Weapon (1987), Bull Durham (1988), Talk Radio (1988), Problem Child (1990)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Problem Child 2 (1991), Flesh And Bone (1993), Major Payne (1995), The Parent Trap (1998), 3000 Miles To Graceland (2001), Joe Dirt (2001), Firehouse Dog (2007), Beverly Hills Chihuahua (2008), Beautiful Kate (2009), Lucky Luke (2009), Transylmania (2009), Cats & Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore (2010), Megamind (2010), The Muppets (2011), It Boy (2013), Shaun The Sheep Movie (2015), Man Up (2015), Huevos: Little Rooster's Egg-cellent Adventure (2015), It's For Your Own Good (2017) and more.
    Controversy 🚨:
Chicago area musician James Pobiega, who goes by the stage name "Little Howlin' Wolf", has claimed that he wrote the song: "Bad To The Bone", and that George Thorogood stole it from him. The song is influenced by Muddy Waters' 1955 song: "Mannish Boy". George Thorogood initially offered the song to Muddy Waters to record, but he declined the offer to record the song.
    Song Credits 📝:
George Thorogood - vocals and electric guitar
    Ian Stewart - piano
    Hank Carter - saxophone
    Billy Blough - bass
    Jeff Simon - drums
George Thorogood & The Delaware Destroyers Info 📰:
George Thorogood was born on February 24, 1950 in Wilmington, Delaware. He is a musician, singer, producer and songwriter. His "high-energy Boogie-Blues" musical sound became a staple of 1980s Rock radio, with hits like his original songs: "Bad To The Bone" and "I Drink Alone". He has also helped to popularize older songs by American icons, such as: Hank Williams "Move It On Over", Bo Diddley "Who Do You Love?", Johnny Lee Hooker "House Rent Blues" and Amos Milburn "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer".
With his band, The Delaware Destroyers (often known simply as "The Destroyers"), George Thorogood has released over 20 albums, two of which have been certified Platinum and six have been certified Gold. He has sold 15 million records worldwide. George Thorogood and his band continue to tour extensively, and in 2014, the band celebrated their 40th anniversary of performing.
George Thorogood began his career as a solo acoustic performer in the style of Blues music legends Robert Johnson and Elmore James after being inspired in 1970 by a John P Hammond concert. In 1973, he formed a band, The Delaware Destroyers, with high school friend and drummer Jeff Simon. With additional players, The Delaware Destroyers developed its sound, a mixture of Chicago Blues and Rock N Roll. The band's first shows were in the Rathskeller bar at the University of Delaware and at Deer Park Tavern, both in Newark, Delaware. Eventually, the band's name was shortened to The Destroyers. During this time, George Thorogood supplemented his income by working as a roadie for Blues music legend Hound Dog Taylor.
George Thorogood's demo tape: Better Than The Rest, was recorded in 1974, but was not released as an album until 1979. His major recording debut came with the album: George Thorogood And The Destroyers, which was released in 1977. In 1978, George Thorogood released his next album with The Destroyers titled: Move It On Over, which included a remake of Hank Williams' song: "Move It On Over". He followed that album song with the singles: "Cocaine Blues", and a reworking of the 1956 Bo Diddley song: "Who Do You Love?", both released in 1978. The band's early success contributed to the rise of Folk music based record label Rounder Records.
During the late 1970s, George Thorogood and his band were based in Boston. He was friends with Jimmy Thackery of the Washington, DC -based Blues band: The Nighthawks. While touring in the 1970s, The Destroyers and The Nighthawks were playing shows in Georgetown at venues right across the street from each other.
George Thorogood gained his first mainstream exposure as a support act for the Rolling Stones during their 1981 US tour. He was also the featured musical guest on Saturday Night Live (S8/E2) on the October 2, 1982. During this time, George Thorogood And The Destroyers became known for their rigorous touring schedule, including their "50/50" tour in 1981, on which the band toured all 50 US states in 50 days. In addition, George Thorogood And The Destroyers played Washington, DC, on the same day that they performed a show in Maryland, thereby actually playing 51 shows in 50 days.
With his record contract with Rounder Records expiring, George Thorogood signed with EMI America Records and, in 1982, released the single: "Bad To The Bone", and an album of the same name that went Gold. The song became the band's most well-known song through appearances on MTV and use in films, television and commercials. George Thorogood and his band went on to have two more Gold studio albums in the 1980s: Maverick and Born To Be Bad. The former features George Thorogood's only Billboard Hot 100 hit, a remake of Johnny Otis' 1958 song: "Willie And The Hand Jive", and his concert staple song: "I Drink Alone".
In 1985, Rolling Stones co-founder Ian Stewart, who played the keyboard/organ with George Thorogood And The Destroyers on their 1982 album: Bad To the Bone, passed away from a heart attack at the age of 47.
George Thorogood's popularity waned in the 1990s, although he had a number 2 hit on the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart in 1992 with the song: "Get A Haircut".
In 2002, George Thorogood appeared in a UPS commercial, convincing NASCAR driver Dale Jarrett to race the brown delivery truck, and rewriting the "Bad To The Bone" song lyrics as "Brown To The Bone".
In 2012, George Thorogood was named one of the "50 Most Influential Delawareans of the Past 50 Years". He released his first proper solo album in 2017 titled: Party Of One.
On March 14, 2020, George Thorogood was inducted into the Mississippi Music Project Hall of Fame in Biloxi, Mississippi, and was awarded the MMP Music Award for his lifelong commitment to the music industry, by Commander Joseph W Clark.
Hank Carter, who served as the saxophonist for George Thorogood's band from 1980 to 2003, passed away on September 14, 2021 at the age of 71.
On April 11, 2023, George Thorogood's social media pages announced that he was seriously ill, although the nature of his illness was not disclosed. Tour dates from April 27 to May 21 were all cancelled as a result.
George Thorogood & The Delaware Destroyers still perform their music live on stage in 2023.
