In the UK we are brought up on Indian food.
    You can’t go wrong with.
    Starter king prawn puri,
Main chicken tikka jalfrezi or korma for no spice
Keema rice, keema naan, mushroom bhaji.

I was surprised the waiter didn't suggest rice, or the items didn't come with rice from what I could see? Naan is better than paratha, just saying lol. But steered you on the right path with butter chicken. It's fantastic. Lots of dishes are good too, but that's the one. I was also interested he didn't suggest kheer and/or gulag jamun rather than 2 quite similar sweets. Plus no mango Lassi. Oh well, next time

I almost love Indian food more than Mexican because the variety and endless combinations of spices (not hot) are mind boggling and to die for good!! My feet do a happy dance under the table when I eat Indian food!! Many more dishes you could have tried and just requested non spicy. And for dessert, Gulab Jamin (one dessert) and Keer (another dessert) and absolutely wonderful together!!

@@kinetickennons Any ‘korma’ or ‘vindaloo’ are soooooo flavorful!! You can’t go wrong with either! And Saag Paneer is a spinach and Indian cheese is so dang yummy!!!! But get those two desserts if you can. The Gulab Jamin is also know as ‘rose balls’. It is two perfect rounds, about the size of donut holes, they are golden brown and usually served warm in a honey rose syrup. Keer is a cold rice pudding and taking a small bite of the Gulab Jamin and enjoy the warm sweet and then take a bite of the cold Keer and just go back and forth between the two. You’ll feel like you died and went to heaven!! Hahaha! Seriously!

I just wrote the same about desserts. Also meant to say about samosas, they always seem to spicy for me too. Not sure why, but I'm assuming properly made, they are hot
For other things just request mild. Usually options are mild, medium and spicey. Do mild until you know what you want. In usa if the places you might go to cater to Americans, chances are mild is bland. I'm used to Indian food in Indian neighborhoods, big fancy places as well as family style, chances are mild is still too hot
Gulag jamun is warm, like pancakes soaked in syrup

As an Indian, loved your video. Pls do try gulab jamun on your next visit. And rasmalai is one of my favorites! And pro tip, take bigger chunks of bite to get more of the flavor. I eat a whole ball of rasmalai in one go haha. There is another laddu which is yellow in color. That's the more popular one and to me it tastes better than orange one haha.
And also after living in US for sometime, I found that mexican food is so similar to indian food. Mexican food is kinda getting pretty famous in India too because of the cuisine similarities

You guys are funny for not having tried Indian food before. I'm into any "ethnic" foods I can get, the spicier the better. Of course for vegetarians, Indian food is the best.
Some comments -- there is 100 percent chance they toned down the spices for you guys. That was probably good for you but for people that want to real deal it can be annoying to be racially stereotyped. On the other hand not all Indian dishes are supposed to be super hot and spicy either.
The bread you loved I believe is paratha.
Butter chicken is a great dish and generally a milder dish.
Chili Gobi which you correctly identified as like Chinese is actually an Indian Chinese dish. Just like Americans have American style Chinese, Indians have Indian style Chinese which they just call Chinese and it is very distinctive and very popular in India.
You do want to try some tandoori dishes, veg or not.

@@caesarroe1283 India and Mexico has trade relations since ancient times, it was mostly spices, chillies , garlic , garments, silk etc . Both countries has good diplomatic relations and respect each other. India still exports 90 % of world's spices , but in the old times India was the sole exporter of spices to the entire world, India taught the world what Spices means , and how to use it. Romans , Greeks and others are buying spices from India for more than 2000 years, that's why Garlic is used in Italian dishes so much. For 1700 years until the British destroyed Indian economy and looted $45 trillion dollars worth of resources from India, it used to be the richest country in the world contributing 35 % of world's GDP. Since India is pretty diverse , it might help to try out a few restaurants since different chefs have different backgrounds, i think you will find the south indian menus easier & more to your pallets.
Start with idli sambar & chutney & that usually comes with a fresh Vada , then get a masala dosa , then a Malabar Paratha with korma.
Then have south Indian filter coffee.
Alternately one of you could order a "thali" & confuse yourselves.
Usually a "Sarvana Bhavan" outlet/restaurant should be somewhere u can travel to.
For North Indian , try tadka dal , navrattan korma , malai kofta , paneer Paratha .
Sweet : reheated gulab jamun with vanilla ice cream or u should ask an Indian store for an authentic Indian Sweet Shop & ask them to give u a mix of sweets of two pieces each. Tell them to pack whatever is fresh.
Paneer butter masala should be enjoyed alone with hot butter naan or garlic naan with pickled onions & chutney salad .
I hope the menu won't overwhelm you for about 3 vlogs atleast. I have recommended a few things not usually found in vlogs & everything is veg .

It's fact that you can't taste Indian food out of india
Cause it is made with some complicated regional spices
And outer Indian restaurants just use synthetic spice powder to get that taste 🤷
And that's why that food have nothing like indian 🙅

That is a super strange Indian restaurant hahahahaaaa...if you could check what exact cuisine it serves would be great! The paratha you had is actually a Kerala Parota (so that makes me think it is a South Indian cuisine based restaurant) as such...I would say you got the wrong dishes at this place!
Samosas are traditionally north Indian and would be served hot with a crisp pastry! The cauliflower dish you were served is an Indian Chinese dish whereas the dessert you got would have also been a bit alien to a south Indian restaurant! Rabdi is again north Indian and it is a dish made from condensed milk...the colour suggested too much saffron in it! Whereas the other one - Ras malai is an Eastern (mainly from West Bengal) dish and the base is also from condensed milk and served with balls made from Indian hand-made cheese!

      @sunshinet3058 Рік тому +1

It was too yellow, for sure. Where I'm from ras Mali is available in the frozen food section as well as restaurants, it's always been white. It seems more like the yellow custard? I usually get that and kheer, my friend loves gulab
