  • In today's Qatar vlog we venture out to the sand dunes outside of Doha, Qatar and we eat local food for the very first time at a restaurant called Afghan Brothers. Both experiences were really eye opening and forced us to reflect on how we have been taught to think about the entire region of the Middle East.

@@evergreenbd4849 As a person who used to live in UAE as well, I must say sorry, but to be honest, not every all muslim countries are safe. For example, in my country, Indonesia, altough majority is Muslims, but we cannot expect that the situations are 100% the same with UAE, Saudi or Qatar.
I'm not saying that Indonesia is not safe at all, it's just not 100% safe as well like in Gulf countries.

@@la3044 as you said it's a cultural thing, yes not all muslim countries use their hands but most Arab countries do and at the very least when it's a traditional dish, you can always use a knife, fork... but when you have bread and sauce it's just better to soak the bread in the sauce and then let it hold the food and eat it like that, idk there's just something about it to me as an Arab, would understand why so many people would opt out but it's a lovely experience, and honestly it's a skill too

Muslims eat with their hands because it’s the Sunnah (t what our prophet used to do ) of prophet Mohammed May peace be upon him. It’s good for you because we have bacteria on our hands that help digest foood. That’s why food always go bad quick when you use your fingers. So basically digestion begins from your fingers, should you eat with your hands.

No offense but I feel Americans can be very ignorant. They see White and Christian as the best race and culture. As a traveler myself I feel America can learn a lot about different cultures. The main thing I have learned from travelling is that every culture is flawed. There is no utopia and as much as Americans claim their country is the best, it's all about priorities really. There may be others who will give up the benefits of living in America for something they value more.

Even more amazing is the fact that nearly 1,400 years ago a civilization started from a desert not different than this one and has changed the course of history forever. 1,400 years ago, the desert dwellers to defeat both the Roman and the Sasanid (Persian) empires is like the Eskimos would defeat both Russia and the USA today.

We have gone through years of discrimination, belittling and bullying by faith based organizations here in Vancouver. But what you said is exactly it, we all strive to provide for our families. We are all human beings, cliche but true. I literally cried, just stopped driving to share this. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts.

We Muslim learn at a young age to sit respectfully with our legs crossed (yoga position) when eating on the mat. Use our hands because sensation of touch brings another perspective on taste. Nothing on you as you were experiencing this first time and didn’t have the proper clothing that would allow you the flexibility. Fearing others is our own loss. Glad you are spreading the positive message on your channel.

Eating food while sitting on a floor with washed hands has many benefits. In many cultures, from middle East all the way to Indonesia people sit on the floor, hence it’s not uncomfortable. People always wash their hands & gargle before and after meals. Eating on floor connects you to your food, makes you eat less (due to sitting posture), gets you closer to your family.

I'm glad your view of the Middle East and Arabs (well, Muslims in general) has changed for the better.
And I hate to go against what an expert like Lincoln would know (lol) but you always wash your hands, eat with your right hand, and start by saying "in the name of God" or in arabic "bis-mil-lah". Brilliant video, you guys smashed it :)
