I love how that scene was lead up to and played out. Pattinson's "Bruce Wayne" performance in the Batsuit is so good. I put Bruce Wayne in quotes because he's only able to be himself as Batman. As Riddler says, "I'm looking at the real you."
His assumption that Riddler knows he's Bruce causes him to almost instinctively put up that persona he very clearly struggles to maintain. But when he gets rug pulled from under him, his aggression shines through like, well, the bat signal.

I take this scene as a catalyst for him to put Bruce Wayne out in public. While Riddler didn't figure it out, how long would it take him to or anyone else. This along with his speech at the end would make great starting points for a sequel where he tries to do more as Bruce Wayne rather than Batman.

The moment of Batman walking in an upside down shot made me realise that he is legitimately horror movie villain to the criminals. His theme in that scene is horror movie villain's theme: foreboding, omnious and sinister. And then, when the theme played in the finale, with minimal orchestration change, they made it a hero's music. Giacchino outdid himself.

    2 things:
    1. It’s awesome as hell that both Batman and the Batmobile get basically the same intro, where you hear them before you actually see them. Absolutely pitch perfect Batmobile sequence with perfect build in tension.
    2. Love how subtly funny Bruce is in this, contrasting how dour he is. Constantly turning phrases and being a smartass, but not in a cocky way, more biting. “Alright, I got you on assaulting an officer!” “You got me on assaulting three”

idfc what people says about the movie. I love this movie so much, I think this is a great movie and I don't get the hate this one's getting. this is an immature version of Batman/Bruce Wayne, it's his sophomore year for fuck sake. his gadgets aren't that hi-tech just yet, his fighting skills aren't really that honed just yet, and he's too emotional compared to the other Batman where they are already completely incorruptible especially the Christian Bale's Batman in The Dark Knight. people really need to realize this one, that this is a young Batman who's just thinking he can avenge his parents by punching random thugs in the face or getting surrounded by 20 thugs and tell them "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!"

  • @Blueeyesthewarrior

I will never stop raving over this movie. The shot as he literally leads the people of Gotham out of the darkness is absolutely beautiful. Bruce’s realization that being “Vengeance” is not actually creating good in the world and that if he truly wants to make the world a place where nobody has to lose their parents he needs to be better. He needs to care more, he needs to be Batman.

AND he needs to be Bruce Wayne. This movie was him realising what he needs to embody as Batman, but the sequel will have to show what he can do as Bruce, since this movie showed us a Bruce who didn't really know what to do with the massive power that comes with being a billionaire

I love how they did Bruce's arc. They gave us a by-the-book Batman flick where he spends most of the time brooding and dealing out concussions, just to pull the rug and have him ultimately fail because his approach would largely be ineffective since he was only dealing with the symptoms of crime, not the cause. I also love how, political read aside, the final climax is Bruce having to literally deal with Batman fans who romanticize him as a brutal punisher. I extra love how that revelation pushes him closer towards his role as the first responder/defender role he takes in the comics (and the animated adaptations).
Also, I just interpreted the large explosions as stylish flair, not an actual representation of the size and intensity of the blasts.

@Willy that's the point. He wasn't trying to outthink Riddler, he was trying just applying the same blunt logic that he applies to dealing with street crime.
The whole point of the movie wasn't to give us the world's greatest detective. The point was to give us Batman as we've been happy to receive him in every big screen outing, and then show us why that wouldn't work out.
Bruce doesn't start the movie as the Dark Knight Detective, he's Gotham's Vengeance. It isn't until after he loses so bad that he sees what he needs to do different and become the Batman.

I always found it fascinating that as Batman he stands taller than even most of the cops. He towers over everyone he talks to as this intimidating force but as Bruce he seems almost reserved and like hes hiding in on himself. He always keeps his head sort of down and slouched not really meeting anyones eyes. It goes to show just how split the two personas are from each other at this point. Honestly that difference that Robert displays made him my favorite live action batman. No disrespect to any of the others (especially adam west) but this is a batman that is broken and suffering in his own personal hell and it is fascinating to watch. Throughout the movie i also noticed that he basically lives the line from Iron man in the MCU "if you need the suit you dont deserve it" towards the end of the movie we see him becoming more confident and grounded. His two personas mixing to form THE batman and by the end of the movie we see him become someone worthy of the suit and the symbolism behind it

It was so damn refreshing. but I also love that, even though he knows the lingo and even gets a lot of the earlier clues before the other cops, eventually it's his own lack of perspective from the poorer Gotham experience that gets in his way. Not knowing Spanish, (the second most spoken language in America), or not knowing the tools of a working man's trade. Catwoman clocks him for a rich boy after knowing him a day. it's such an amazing take on how he sees himself as just another victim of Gotham, but doesn't recognise the privilege he truly has.

The Batman is a fantastic film. This movie really explores batman in a very different way. Robert Pattinson does a phenomenal job as the caped crusader, so much so that when you look at batman, you also see Bruce Wayne and his inner torment and darkness lurking within. The scenes with Bruce without the suit interacting and Alfred were very effective and powerful. All the characters are true to what they are supposed to be like. All the actors which include Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Collin Farrell, Paul Dano do an excellent job at helming these iconic characters. My only problem is that at times the characters survive things that they shouldn't be able to. The story is very well thought out and meticulously planned and crafted. The Villain, Riddler, is tragic, understandable, smart, cunning, and overall effective and I had no problems with him. The action is expertly choreographed, very well shot and confidently directed. This is by far the best looking batman movie. I love the Nolan films. The Dark Knight is one of my favorite movies and favorite superhero film. But the cinematography by Greg Freizer is just pristine and down-right gorgeous. This film's visuals are on a whole another level. This is probably the best looking comic-book films I Have ever seen. It's only real competition is Aquaman (great looking film). Now Michael Giacchino had a very difficult task ahead of him. The character of Batman has been blessed with beautiful scores over the years, from the iconic score by Danny Elfman, to the underrated score in the animated series and the energetic and exciting score by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard (My Favorite). The Legacy is hard to Live up to. But I am happy to say that Michael Giacchino has composed a flawless score for this film which itself was enough to put me on the edge of my seat. Its just a testament to why he is hired to compose so many films. This is the best Batman score since The Dark Knight trilogy. Now I won't spoil, but at the end of this movie, Bruce learns a lesson and it was beautiful. The arc he has as Batman is amazing. It is something I have never seen in a comic-book film, and it perfectly sends the message of what a hero is meant to be. This film actually delves deep into one aspect of Batman that the other films only addressed, and that is that he is 'The World's Greatest Detective'. That is what made the film so unique and fresh, the fact that is truly a mystery movie. Overall, you can probably see that I am very happy. I am honestly at a place with Batman right now where I have not been in a long time. This is my favorite Batman, DC, and probably favorite comic-book movie since The Dark Knight. its only real competition is Joker(2019). The Batman is an incredible experience. If it weren't for that problem I mentioned, this movie would have probably been better than The Dark Knight for me. This film is a technical masterpiece, and is beautifully written. Matt Reeves is truly one of the best film-makers working today. He showed promise from the start with films like The Planet of the Apes sequels and Cloverfield, and with this movie's trailers. The movie lives up to my hype and I had a Blast. In short, Go Watch It.

Honestly, one of my favorite things to enjoy during my viewing of the movie was catching all the "Something in the way" reprises throughout the soundtrack.

Bruce walking in the rain at the beginning of the film with that monologue sold me right there.
I mean I knew he's gonna nail the role, but that part gave me chills and I knew I will see something special.

What A Film! This is Class!
I can say A Lot of Things I Love about It! But I'm just gonna focus & Say The Editing is Amazing! It Flows in This Particular scene where We see The Bat Cave for the 1st Time! So Bruce is going through the Cipher (From The Riddler) and Looking at What He's Recorded! Then we see Alfred come in and he's talking about how Bruce could Loose Everything! But He sees the Cipher Also! Then it Cuts to the Day and Alfred's (Reminiscing about His day's in The Circus & Trying to Figure out The Cipher) meeting the CEO's? About How to save the Company etc! Normally we'd have a scene with Alfred and the CEO's etc But We Don't! It Cuts Straight into Both of Them trying Again a New method to Solve The Cipher (And They Do) in The Bat Cave! Then it Cuts Straight to Batman and Gordon in the Garage and they Find the Car n Key! They use the Finger to find Photos of Falcon and The Penguin etc! Then Batman's Knockin Fuck Out of Everyone in Penguins Night Club!
I might Not have Explained it Well!? But if you get what I'm saying? It's Genius Editing and It Happens A Lot in This For Me Classic Noir Type n Style Film! Cheers n Thanks EGA 🍻

I absolutely love this version. Paul does so well with acting as both Batman AND Bruce Wayne. Plus, this movie goes way more into his roots. Some of the more recent movies go more into his fighting and backstory, but this one goes more into his roots as a detective. It's called DC for a reason, and this reminds fans where Batman as a character started. Plus, the more creepy version of the Riddler and the mystery and misdirection works SO well with the detective Batman. I love this version so much and am so excited to see if more like this comes from DC. If it does, they can do a lot better than they have. They tried too hard to catch up to Marvel, but this new version can actually work for some audiences! I love this so much.

Me and my big brother watched this movie 1 day before it came out in IMAX Theaters. TBH, it does feel so dark and scary, especially when they are solving riddles. I love the Batman movie.

Considering his work on the Planet of The Apes films. I knew Matt Reeves would do an excellent job. And could you cover Rango?

When the Riddler started singing Ave Maria, my stupid mind immediately went to those Filthy Frank videos where he'd sing it as a joke. So I am in the theater trying to stifle a laughter while everyone is terrified of him.

I 100% loved this movie. It gives us a Batman we rarely ever see. That the sheer PRESENCE of Batman was intimidating, almost stifling in a way that made you uneasy. Not to mention I love his relationship with Gordon here and seeing them actually work together was awesome. The Riddler actually unnerved me while watching this and the fact he technically won in the end...this is not a Batman movie we are used to, but I will so see a second one.

I remember seeing this in theaters and feeling my jaw hit the floor during the car chase scene. One of the most epic scenes I have ever seen, up there with the "Avengers Assemble" scene in Endgame.
