- The Cat & Fiddle - iconic climb of Peak District and one of the longest climbs in England. It averages 3.2% over 10 km. It is a fairly steady climb all the way to the top, but there are a couple of short sections of downhill. It is steepest when leaving from Macclesfield. On leaving town, it is 6% for the first two kilometres... | Subscribe to Cycling Weekly here: www.youtube.co...

Why call this series iconic climbs? It’s all about the bikes...no real insight to the climbs, how to ride them, bits to look out for, where to ease off or press on.
My main problem with Cat & Fiddle is the amount of traffic you have to contend with. Much nicer to go up the Brickworks and then the Goyt Valley to the north.
In 1959 Aged 12 on a 17" sit up-and-beg, no gears, rod brakes, preloved kids bike I set off from Poynton. Hazel Grove-Whaley Bridge- Buxton. Cafe in Buxton cup of tea and teacake. 4 old pennies (less than current 1p) phone call home to say where I was. Mum's reaction " Which way are you coming home?" Me "Cat and Fiddle" Mum "Take care" . Mum and Dad cycled from Poynton to Newquay and back shortly after getting married I 1943 mid WWII. For me and my maters there was so much freedom just after WWII and so much less traffic. So then Cat and Fiddle, Macc and back to Poynton. The "flying" descent to Macc was such a great feeling. Next birthday a 21" Viking Ian Steel bike (Reynolds 531 tubing, side-pull Weiman brakes, Campagnolo 5 speed derailleur gears, no "double clanger" ie single crank sprocket) 4 years later summer holiday St Malo, La Rochelle, Royan and back via Mont St Michelle. Magic! (Stiil have the bike but ashamed of its condition)
How refreshing to see some women riding for a change! Great work! 👍
What a waste of time. It's nothing to do with the climb, it's just an advert for the bike manufactures.
Rather expensive bike manufacturers too!
I'd like for you guys to tackle the Trough of Bowland in Lancashire. Starting at Dunsop Bridge, it's a full 45 mile ride all the way around. Getting to about 4,400ft elevation. I just did it and also killed me 😂
I would suggest Winnats pass.
The vitus cable routing is awful. Should be more about climb rather than bike product placement...
I bought a Cube Attain very similar frame spec, but has Tiagra and hydraulic discs for £740. What's the catch, it was old new stock. 2016 model - and they only do mechanical discs now on that spec.
in roughly the same area of the country, how about taking on Winnats Pass, or head over to Church Stretton and go up the Burway ??
Or the other side Asterton Bank to make it a bit interesting :)
Too many artics on that road.
go at weekend
Another shameless advertorial from a once proud independent weekly cycling magazine.
looking for some routes with iconic hills, so I though a review would be perfect. You you need to perhaps create 50/70/100 routes on Strava/Garmin/Kamoot with the iconic climb in there. This the iconic video talked more about the bikes than the title indicated, another video reviewing the bikes might have been better.
more female athlete presenters, please. a welcome change from this testosterone laden sport, and yes, I am male. Female riders are rare as hen's teeth here. Too many guys. Represent the women who are just as tough as any male rider more and more. I have selfish reasons for this; the more women on the road, the better my chances of meeting a smart, fast, and mentally tough woman, because I haven't met one on the sidewalk or on a bus yet... sedentary, attached to iphones, eyes down is the norm. not like you lot !
:)
Cote de Lofthouse is a toughie
Sophie's helmet seems a bit too small.
Should have gone to Snake Pass.
Im a biker and mtb cyclist - this is vid is rubbish nothing but a Sales pitch. TBF ive never cycled it myself but get up and over and down the other side its a great route. It gets grim up at the top so be prepared to be cold
Too much traffic on that road, Wilboarclough is better
"the great British Summer" .. Yeah forget the bike ... just do the climb and give it a rating... less waffle
More focus on the climb and less on the bikes please.
