It's a good one. Well worth a visit. Snakes pass I did earlier last year when it was closed to cars due to a land slide. It was EPIC! The narrow road fast road wasn't a problem then! Scenery is awesome. Snakes pass I'd highly recommend doing on a early Sunday morning with less traffic. Could be sketchy if busy.
I went over The Cat and Fiddle 3 times in 2024, in June, July and August and every time the weather was shocking, cold, wet and windy, the 3rd time in August we were literally shivering at the top and couldn’t see more than about 30 feet in front of us, it’s a great climb but very prone to bad weather conditions
Technically if you ride the A689 from Stanhope to the summit of Killhope Cross, it's a 14 mile climb gaining 1540ft with a good >15% kick right at the very end (although not quite continuous as there are some dips and flats).
That sounds a great climb! Where is that one? Since recording this video and ride I have since learnt that the longest continuous climb in the UK is Cragg Vale. No difficult at all. 5.5 miles long with no mini down hill section. Averages on 3% and max 10%. They have a sign at the bottom proudly saying the longest continuous climb in the uk.
@@andrewon2wheels yeah longest continuous climb is usually assigned here (I guess it narrowly beats Hartside?), which can muddy the waters for other "longest" climbs, but depends how you want to define it, if any dip means its not a single climb then that eliminates almost all climbs in the country?
I really fancy trying this one. Heard a lot about it! Would love to try Snake Pass too 😃

That’s extremely unlucky to have that weather 3 times in the summer months!
I think I'd crap myself with all those HGVs😁
I know exactly what you mean! I had to put my poker face on here.

@@kenwynn3871 Cragg Vale beats Hartside by just shy of a mile.
It does eliminate a lot of potential climbs in the uk.
@@andrewon2wheels the longest climb I ever did was 34km in the pyrenees
